Ignore the haters Alan (as much as you can) I know it's hard not to take it personally b/c you put so much time, effort, and energy into your content. Those of us in the community appreciate you - I appreciate you. Now I'm gonna go buy something from the cottage to poke my finger in their eye! 👍😁
@user-jf3ro4sb2c I haven't met any. We seem to be a relatively gentle and understanding community. I'm sure they exist, but I have never had the displeasure of coming across them so far :)
I'm 26 years old and have been a fairly avid cigar smoker for a handful of years. I finally made the leap into pipes because of yourself and the gentleman from the Dry Creek Wrangler School. We sure could use more folks like yourselves. Thank you for the content!
Pipe tobacco is great! There are a lot of different options and it's entirely different from cigars. Pipe tobacco is much more attractive to the senses as well. Especially to those who don't partake. It's definitely a skill that takes some learning though, not as easy as lighting up a good cigar.
@@clayfox899 What I love with pipes are the pipes. They are more than just a means to an end. I have 5 pipes and 3 in my rotation. I recently started and expanding the pipe collection is both fun and expensive. Trying new tobaccos are also fun. Have you tried latakia? If not it's a must, it's in most English Blends.
Dear Alan, I'm Italian and I actually live less then 5 miles from the Savinelli factory in Lombardy! A friend of my father works there and he gifted me a beautiful Leonardo Limited Edition Pipe. I'm just starting my pipe smoking journey, but I'm thinking of buying a cheap pipe to begin because I'm afraid of ruining such a work of art. Thanks, Davide
You have good friend. And I love and miss Italy and the Italian people, so much. I learned to love them when I was there for two years from my 13 to 14 years.
I’m glad you talked about what a man can and can’t afford. I’m pretty much on a Dr Grabow and Missouri Meerschaum budget, and they do quite well for me.
Thanks Derrick, I’m in the same boat. Although I’m sure Savinelli and Peterson pipes are great, they are way above my means. I am happy with estate pipes and new but affordable pipes I can buy on eBay. Happy piping!
Same here. Single Father. Starting over out of state. Not complaining just explaining! I’ve got three corn cobs at the moment which I thoroughly enjoy it but I cannot wait for the day when I get my hands on a fine Savinelli 🙏
This is a lesson I learned with cigars. Sometimes the $6 cigar will out smoke a $20 cigar. I started pipe smoking with a house blend and $4 corn cob pipe from the local brick and mortar
To say that you present the best pipe content, style and useful information would be the understatement of the century… Absolutely love your videos - thank you!
I love my 6 Savinelli pipes. Great quality. I totally relate about grandparents and their favorite actors. My grandfather smoked a pipe and his favorite actor was Charles Bronson who also smoked pipes. Good stuff. 👍
Cigar smoker for several years. I bought my first pipe a few months back. I purchased a Savinelli 677 KS alligator. I will admit, I didn't have a clue how to smoke it, but the feel and looks of the pipe had my interest. After watching channels like muttonchop, dry creek wrangler, and yours, I can proudly say I've learned how to enjoy this fine art! Thanks for the great content guys like yall put out.
It's because of your influence that I've been able to enjoy pipe smoking as much as I have. Learning about different styles and different blends has led me to be tobacca curious lol. You are a strong male figure and I have respect for you and I thank you for sharing all that you have over all these years!
I have one Savinelli Punto D'Oro 105, a small, light straight billiard shape pipe, rusticated. It immediately became my favorite. At the time of writing, this video has 227 likes and 0 dislikes. I do so agree! 😊 A tribute to Savinelli is long due, factory or not, they are still hand made and not on a conveyer belt or by robots. They offer excellent quality, design, style, quality control and consistent enormous choice at a very reasonable price 😊 Your store is great and that Christmas special is fantastic! 😊😊👍👍
Trolls will come from everywhere no matter the content. I work for an online marketing agency with clients that range from Men's Italian suits to College degrees in Culinary Arts and any ad that appears on any type of social media will get it's trolls. I've learned that there are just hateful people out there that want to spread their misery to others and there isn't much one can do about it. The worst thing you could ever do is to feed a troll and engage with it. That said, I do enjoy your content sir and appreciate what you do.
the dispute about which pipe is better than the author's or the factory's is meaningless. The factory pipe can smoke much better than the original one, despite the cost. Now there are too many artisans who believe that in 2-3 years they have become great masters. In fact, in factories, most of the processes are also done manually, but at the same time there is experience accumulated over the centuries and the division of production, which, of course, is a step forward. And the experience in choosing briar is huge, as is the wholesale access to it. So, from my own experience, I vote for factory pipes.
As somebody that has a RUclips channel, I know what it’s like to get negative comments. I found that when you immediately delete them, and then block that person it helps flush that thought out of your head. I’ve only listen to a couple of your videos. I subscribed immediately. I don’t even smoke a pipe. But I can’t for the life of me think how anybody could even come up with one thing negative. So far what I’ve been listening to, is just your opinion. You state that at the beginning. I have not gotten one negative comment from somebody that actually has made a video. I find that very interesting. God bless you. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I find them very interesting. I did smoke a pipe while I was in college for one semester. I found that I was playing with my pipe and keeping it lit, etc. etc. instead of studying, so I had to quit.
Your style is refreshing. I watch all of your videos and enjoy them. It’s more than just a relaxing smoke. It’s a touch of class and appreciation for things we enjoy. Good work sir! Troy Scott, LA
You mentioned the filters that come with the Savinelli pipes. I've been smoking pipes since 1994 and to begin with - without the filter. But when I bought a pipe in 2015 and it had a filter inside, I thought to myself - why not try smoking with this filter and so I did. To me, it turned out to be a pleasant experience. It certainly absorb most of the tar and nicotine and gives you the feeling of a cool and dry smoke. Most importantly, the aroma, the flavor remains the same. I think it suits me because I tend to smoke a bit "heavier", drawing with more strength than maybe other smokers do. I use 3 mm, 6 and 9mm in my various pipes. Greetings to you from Hamburg, Germany
my friend has this thing that happens when tobacco smoke goes into his mouth, i guess it's common, he starts salivating a lot which goes down into the bottom of the bowl and gets weird and gross, i dunno why i do not ever have this issue lol, anyways we ended up trying filters and it helped a lot to trap a lot of the wetness and keep it out of the bowl, i also think it makes ghosting(when the flavor of tobacco you smoked prior mixes with a new flavor) happen less, i just switch filters, also if you start a pipe and are forced to stop and let it go out for whatever reason, if you change filters before relighting your pipe it's less nasty and stale and whatnot
I'm a lurker but I love to hear about pipes and stories from pipe smokers. I used to smoke back in my college days and for 10 years or so thereafter. I'd love to begin again sometime. When I smoked I had three Savinelli's (that I recall), a billiard, a bent bulldog and, I think it was called, a "vest" pipe-one of those where the stem bent back and it could be carried in one's shirt pocket. It was the worst pipe I ever owned. I had a few other pipes, all of them gone somewhere. My best pipe was an OTC pipe of questionable heritage. it was like an Oom Paul, deep bend and huge bowl and I could puff away for an entire episode of Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone.) That was back in the '70's! Ah, memories. Be encouraged! You do a fine job.
I'm in the market for my first Savinelli pipe and your video appeared as a recommended video. Great timing. The shapes that I'm favoring are the 626 for my main pipe and a 106 for when I want a shorter pipe smoking session. Always great pipe video content from The Pipe Cottage!
I myself have a Savinelli Churchwarden. It has been my lone pipe for 36 years. It has developed a somewhat disquieting patina to the stem over the years, but it is a thing of beauty. I’ve always adored him. I call him Carlo.
I prefer the Author Pipes. I don't clinch too much, mostly I hold them. The Author is a fine holding pipe when one wants to ponder some of the more weighty subjects of life. I have more Savanelli pipes than any other brand, not counting my cobs. I have a mess of cobs which I enjoy very much as well. As far as the negative comments, be like a duck, and just let them roll off your back.
Great vid… I switched from a lifetime of cigarette smoking to pipes awhile back and started with a Savinelli Trevi 626. I have a small collection going now but recently bought a Savinelli 601 and while wishing the stem was a bit longer finding it my favorite “sipping” pipe of them all so far. It burns effortless and smooth with full flavor from top to bottom with no fussing around. Any pipe that has me drawing hard or fussing with it tends to revert me back to inhaling most of it instead of sipping.
Thank you for your time ❤ I have really been loving my savinelli, smooth 6mm, clarks favorite. I am a sucker for a church warden, or demi-church warden stem. There is something about that shape brings me back to my Tolkien youth 🇳🇿
I am highly encouraged by your tenacity in face face of the adversity from those who come around to merely stir the pot. keep up the fine work, I look forward to more high quality content.
I just finished, I mean now i just finished ordering my first pipe, it's a savinelli avorio rusticated 606 ks.. after a long time searching, reading and watching your videos, I decided to pull the trigger. Thank you so much for your videos, I really enjoyed it. Greetings from Kuwait 🇰🇼
I enjoy your accent and videos very much. I see that you are an vid reader of history book. So am I. Savinelli makes pipes without filters. I just but an estate pipe, a long Lumberman, and it doesn't take filters.
I've been smoking pipes for 43 years now, and after about my first 6 months a tobacconist introduced me to Savinelli's Punta de Oro pipe (back in 1980) and I've been smoking Savinellis ever since. For the past 15 years my favorite pipe has been the 606 half bent rustic model. The bowl diameter to depth ratio is just perfect! Savinellis do come with a balsa filter, having a triangular cross section. Now if that filter is pushed too far forward or too far backward so that it covers up the draw hole on either the stem or the bowl...... You will have trouble getting a proper draw. So the proper thing to do is to situate the filter halfway between the stem and the ball draw holes. That way you get a proper draw and also moisture absorption by the balsa filter.
I got a 606 ks roma, smoking it right now, great pipe, all my savinellis smoke great, i got a 701 and the stamping has a ghost "701" on it but you can hardly see it but, i have had great experiences eith mine
Keep up the good work ,I am a 80 year old born again pipe smoker. Started when I was 6 an most of my pipes are that old , except the Boswell 's.Thanks for the honest content.
Just bought my first pipe at a local cigar shop I stumbled into over the weekend, this video was recommended to me, and my last name is Boswell. Everything happens for a reason.
Just getting started in the pipe smoking hobby. After getting started on cigars for a bit, I came across your channel and decided to give pipe smoking a try. Definitely a bit more of a challenge, but I enjoy it very much. Just picked up 4 more pipes today at an antique shop. They all are in fantastic shape. I enjoy the old stuff much more than the new. Not afraid of using something that has been used before me. It has a history and I like that. I just want to thank you for the way you present your content. You are the only channel in the community that I watch on a regular basis.
Dear Alan, Thank you for all of your content! You made me buy my first Savinelli. I just received my Savinelli 320 Eleganza and it has been amazing. I completely agree with your decision to remove the filter. I find it allows you to really enjoy your tobacco. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been pipe smoking for almost a year now and have only smoked out of Savinelli pipes. Affordable, look stunning, made and smoke well. Bings favourite I reach for mostly. My favourite shapes at the moment are the 811, Canadian, Zulu and bent Dublin. Haven’t smoked out of a 626. Definitely a 626 and a poker next on the list.
I started smoking a month ago with an estate pipe. Once I knew I liked the hobby I wanted something nice. Just got a savanelli st nick 646 2024. I LOVE it. And the filters keep the smoke cool. I’m absolutely in love. I’ll never buy another brand
Success makes jalous, that's the problem of these envious people. I really like your channel and your posts help me a lot to get into my new hobby. So don't be angry with these guys - sir, you are a true gentleman with a lot of great and honest thoughts, thank you very much! Greetings from Germany! ✌
You can’t beat a Savinelli for the money. Ignore the disrespectful people our society has spawned. Great honest video! A book and a pipe are more appealing every time I turn on the television.
I’m new to your channel and even newer to the Brotherhood of the Briar…You,sir with your calm Southern demeanor make me even more prouder of my Mississippi heritage and the good and decent people of the South….Blessings to you and all of the Brothers/Sisters of the Briar…………….Delta Devil here in Buckeye Country….
Agree about the haters. Keep on keeping on and ignore. I've found this channel extremely valuable in my journey to give pipe smoking a try. I already like a good cigar but it always keeps one hand occupied. Seems like a pipe would allow me to enjoy the tastes while having both hands free. Thank you!
New pipe smoker here. Bought my first pipe a little over a year ago, French made not sure of manufacturer. My experience was just ok. Six months later I bought an Italian made bent apple. Love that shape, my experience was a bit better but not fantastic. After lots of reading and videos, many of them yours I purchased a Peterson B42 bent apple system pipe. Absolutely fantastic smoke. Thank you for the content Sir!
Thank you very much for this wonderful video. My Savinelli pipes are among my favorite pipes. Pipe smoking is a great sign of erudition, thinking and knowing how to enjoy life. Your videos are a great testimony to living life to the fullest.
I have watched your channel many times .. I recently am comming back into the hobby of pipe smoking and your input has been most help full .. I could go on about many things but i believe that all is need is a simple. Thank you
Dr. Alan, you will never see this comment being this is an old video. I just wanted to thank you. I bought 2 basket pipes to start, but you convinced me to buy a Peterson and 2 Savinelli pipes to have a cool little rotation of pipes. I did buy a Churchwarden Savinelli to smoke next to the fire while I enjoy a good book. God Bless you, Alex, and the kiddos.
Ive been smoking pipes for over 50 years. I've owned all types. Peterson, handmade, you name it. My favorite pipe is,and will always be a corn cob. Missouri Meerschaum. They are simply. Smoke better than almost anything. And they stay cooler than most. I do limit myself to ribbon cuts. Irish cream is my favorite smoke. I do enjoy Cavendish a lot ☘️ Cheers
Yes, by all means, please ignore the haters. I stumbled across your channel and have enjoyed it very much and look forward to viewing more. Remember we can't please everyone ha, so why try keep charging forward.
One of my favorite pipe possessions, back when I was a newcomer to the world of pipes, is the Sav Miele. A full year afterwards it is still one of my prized gems.
There are always naysayers. To each their own. As for me: excellent video and it's nice to sit back and enjoy the advise and enthusiasm of a Gentleman. Best to you and yours Sir!
I just bought a Savinelli 673 KS Alligator in green (bent apple) from Oklahoma’s oldest pipe shop in Tulsa (Ted’s pipe shoppe) just before Christmas and I absolutely love it. I’ve wanted one of these for a long time. P.S. love the channel my friend.
Haters are going to hate. The larger your channel gets the more negativity will come your way. Keep doing great content, focus on the love and ignore the hate my friend. Great video.
Hello and thank you keeping up the tradition, I have a 2015 606 St. Nicholas along with many other savinelli pipes, I have a couple of Trevi's I enjoy, like the 310 and 320 models. God Bless
I have a 321 Tigre ( smaller author) and take with me while walking the dog … tobacco usually ashes about the time I reach home.. Always appreciate your content. Thank you!!
I greatly enjoy your channel and your store, and plan to purchase again from you very soon. I can't imagine why anyone would leave a negative comment, but don't let it get to you.
Have always loved Savenellie pipes for their price point. I have several of them and have been puffing along since I was 14...I am now 80 and my Doctor who is South African and a female encouraged me to keep doing what I have been doing and have my burbon or a scotch wiskey as well. Since I am a Canadian boy I am pleased not to be brow beaten by another WOKE diatribe. I have pipes that I have collected during my travels...Ratray Brigham Peterson Ben and one of my favorite ones a level 4 volcano shape by Larson that I bought in Copenhagen around the yr 2000. My degrees are a BA in Philosophy and a Masters in Theology. My life has been one of contentment and turmoil...time in chemistry a paratrooper and a family man with a love for trap shooting and my Labrador and memories of duck geese and the short pheasant season...but I still enjoy time ready and a good book.
Hi Alan! I agree definetely about your opinion about Savinelli They are amongst my finest ones in my collection. But I must admit that I bought them back in the 90's and therefore I don't know if the quality is still the same. One of them I smoked recently, a 804 KS in punto oro quality, The other two ones I own are still with vulconite stems and need to be refurbished, a 606 KS gold and a 624 KS giubileo d'oro. Especially the last one is a beauty and I can't wait to smoke it again when refurbed. All of them very classic shapes, almost as if holding a Dunhill in your hand.
Just discovered your channel and getting back to my pipes after several decades of cigar smoking....great content and enjoying your commentary and look forward to your insights, opinions, advice and product suggestions. Having several Savinellis and Petersens from the 1970's I need to catch up on current products. Thank you sir, carry on.
I have a number of Savinelli pipes in my collection. As you stated, they are great for people to start out with. Quality briar pipes at a reasonable price. Keep up the good work and ignore all the negativity.
I left a comment on how I wish I had the southern twang like you. I meant nothing mean sprinted about it. I’m from the northern Tar Heel state and have a little twang myself. And like Alabama said, I’ll speak my southern English as natural as I please. I enjoy your channel. Thanks
Back in ‘73, I bought my first Savinelli, my best pipe at the time, a 114 Deluxe Milano. I still have it. It’s a good pipe and has been well maintained. I’ve always liked their bits, slim and trim and easily clenchable. Their styling is wonderful. Recently I picked up a couple of Punto Oros, also good pipes, shorter overall than my 114 and favorites for driving. My long term favorites are by Peterson and I add to that collection frequently. Both companies make good pipes, reliable quality and good design. If there’s any difference, I’d say Savinelli has better wood but that’s very subjective. There’s a good video on Savinelli’s wood resource that bears watching. I’m quite happy with both these factory pipes and see little need to spend more money…both companies have good high end pipes. Good presentation, thanks. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I’ve been smoking a cheap $30 pipe for the last few years, I just got a savinelli tortuga 602; boy oh boy, what a difference! Much cooler smoke, much more even burn, even tastes a bit smoother. I’ve never tried an artisan, but this savinelli suits me just fine! 🙂

Either the flavour is not effected or it smoothes the „heavier“ stuff. Both in the same time?

Love the 626. It’s a shape that speaks to me. I’m an Apple shape fan.
Thank you for your time ❤
I have really been loving my savinelli, smooth 6mm, clarks favorite. I am a sucker for a church warden, or demi-church warden stem. There is something about that shape brings me back to my Tolkien youth 🇳🇿
That's a true southern gentleman right there !
Love the video!
Regards from Sweden❤
I am highly encouraged by your tenacity in face face of the adversity from those who come around to merely stir the pot. keep up the fine work, I look forward to more high quality content.
My Bing's Favorite has no golf embossing or emblem. Vulcanite stem. Lovely clenching pipe and beautiful smoke. Great vid BTW
I could listen to this all day long
I appreciate your videos and enjoy your content and southern charm very much Professor 👍🏼👍🏼
This is the kind of content I enjoy. Very informative and educational. Excellent topic.
Thanks for the videos Merry Christmas !
@@thepipecottage3301 amen
Well done Sir! I am a 70 year old born again pipe smoker! 😉
A six year old smoking a pipe??? I only got the guts to smoke a pipe a year ago and I just turned 48 a couple of days ago.
Thanks for being you, I love your spirit!
Between you and Muttnchop piper y'all are true gentleman and I have learned alot, Kudos from Texas!
Great video. Enjoyed your take on Savinelli pipes.
Excellent presentation sir. Thank you.
Thank you
Thank you for your excellent content! I do so enjoy your channel.
I have never smoked a pipe, but I love this content. Thanks for sharing brother.
Awesome video! Your humility makes your Chanel stand out from the crowd!
Thank you very much !
Maybe he will see this comment. I’m glad I’ve found these videos. Looking forward in returning to my pipe journey
Thank You Sir for your incredibly enjoyable and informative videos. You are very much appreciated!
I smoke Factory Pipes. Forty years later.Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry!
I bought myself two Savinellis this year and smoked them both during my Christmas vacation, including a St. Nicholas 626 on Christmas Day.
Haters are going to hate. The larger your channel gets the more negativity will come your way. Keep doing great content, focus on the love and ignore the hate my friend. Great video.
This is the first video I have seen of yours. What a refreshing experience.
Hello and thank you keeping up the tradition, I have a 2015 606 St. Nicholas along with many other savinelli pipes, I have a couple of Trevi's I enjoy, like the 310 and 320 models. God Bless
Golf was so important to Bing the logo is a must have! Fabulous content with your Carolina drawl: lovely!🙏🙏🙏
Love the videos! Thanks for making such information so accessible
A sober, thoughtful presentation delivered with style and clarity. I sipped your video as you suggested we sip the taste of a pipe. Well done!
I have a 321 Tigre ( smaller author) and take with me while walking the dog … tobacco usually ashes about the time I reach home..
Always appreciate your content. Thank you!!
I’ve really been enjoying my Savinelli Roma 704 and 702 lately, great pipes, great content. 👍
I greatly enjoy your channel and your store, and plan to purchase again from you very soon. I can't imagine why anyone would leave a negative comment, but don't let it get to you.
Another great video. Thanks Alan!
I’ve just picked up a pipe and found this channel very informative.
Reading....keep up your videos...always wanted a Saveneli Bing...time to get one after your recommendation.
New favorite channel! Excellent presentation. Thank you.
Thanks
I love your knowledge and your encouragement.
Great Video, I have 1 Savinelli and its just great. Thank you for the tips and advice.
I love this accent, very southern gentleman like. When a guy that sounds like this talks about pipes, you listen!
Awesome over view I really "need" a bings favorite...maybe after Christmas ⛄🎄
