Am I the only one that half-asses the Christmas Tree decor at the back since part of the tree is facing the wall? I absolutely do not want a spinning tree, I wanna put all my effort at the front and none at the back 🤣🤣
For the most part, I agree. That being said, I could predict what a coworker would wear because she wore the same red dress every year. I mean, good for her for rewearing, but EVERY year???
I bought one one super clearance in the middle of summer at Macy's! It's just green and soft, can also be styled differently I'm feeling like a fairy/gardeney!
When I was little, I used to throw tantrums in the store over things I wanted. My mother would put it in the shopping cart, which calmed me, and then remove it before checking out. I never made a fuss at that point. I find that I get really tempted to buy knick knacks that I don't need as soon as I see them. So I use the same strategy, combing through a site and adding it to my cart. I keep it open as a tab on my phone, but I leave it for multiple day/weeks. If I come back and don't really find myself missing it or thinking about it, I close the tab and never buy the item(s). It's really helped me separate the impulse buys from the fun things I'll actually use and appreciate.

I enjoy shopping with friends and looking at the decorations in the stores. Not just the stuff they are selling but all of it. The music, the food, the smells, the joy of time with friends. But I never buy anything. When we all get in the car to head home they marvel at the fact I don’t buy anything. I tell them I am here for enjoyment of the season and spending time with them. We all have a great time. I have learned to appreciate the beauty of something without the need to own it 💚🎄❤️
My GF and I aren't big on holiday movies anymore, but we always, always watch Klaus every year so we can talk about the animation and how much love went into it.

I actually was gifted a plastic cup and marker holder as a gift because I like to host and was complaining that people weren't putting their names on their cups. It was from a friend who got it from a wood worker at a craft fair. To me I really like it, but I would not have bought it for myself. There was a period where were having 8-10 people over at least once a week.
Holiday outfit tip (mainly for people in cold weather areas): Red or green sweaters, or even white/off white. Green or white can be worn for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or St. Patrick's Day. Same with red but for Valentine's day. And all of them can be worn throughout the winter months rather than just those key days. You can simply just accessorize with different holiday or everyday pieces you already have and pair them as you like with any bottoms and shoes you already have. Another underrated fashion tip IMO is to wear sweaters over a summer dress/skirt with tights. Some of my summer dresses don't work for this but I have several that I can style for any season.
It doesn’t feel like Christmas until I’ve watched the Muppet Christmas Carol & Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas (but I am here for all the Muppets & adore all of their festive movies & holiday specials)
Yep. I live in a 1 bd apt. People are already asking me what I want for gifts and the answer is NOTHING!! Stuff is starting to feel like a burden, and I simply have no room to store anything else at this point. I'd rather go out to dinner, a movie, or whatever if they want to treat me to a holiday present.
Thank u for the content again. Ive been watching for several months and since then my shopping cravings for material things have disappeared. Today i decided to go to the mall to watch for all the Christmas stuff. Its pretty to see but dont want to own none of that… all the polyester overpriced clothes going to be put on once… no thanks!
I don’t want my stupid tree to spin. There’s corners in my tree that are more sparse and the dumb ornaments live in the back. Also, how does it spin with the lights connected?!
That is a great question! 🤔 my tree was twinkling lights, so I feel like that plus the spinning would be WAY too much going on haha. I also don’t want to buy more ornaments for the back!
I am fairly sure the Grinch lady sets her grinch fluff on fire. Which is definitely not funny...😸 Favourite film at this time of year. Bedknobs and Broomsticks. And it does not require any gimmicky items to enjoy watching it.
For holiday outfits, I think things like Rent the Runway or subscription rental boxes like nuuly are a really great option. You can have the amazing piece of your dreams for the night or whatever, and then send it back for someone else to wear, not taking up space in your closet and in some cases at a very very tiny fraction of the cost. I recently signed up for nuuly and have been enjoying it a lot - currently losing weight so I don’t really need clothes in the “in between” sizes long term, but I want to wear clothes that fit now. I’ve also been enjoying trying out fun or unusual pieces that I most definitely do NOT need to own but are a joy to wear. Clothing swaps, too! Trade your sequin NYE dress from last year with someone else’s! Anything to add just a little less to the insane overproduction and disposal of clothing in the world…
These influencers are like grandmas selling Avon and mary k. They have moved from the church bathrooms to living rooms and transitioned over to the internet.
What kills me with these "gift ideas" lists is that I feel like it's not very helpful? Maybe I just know really unique people, but most of them would not like or appreciate most of those things. This is particularly true for things like make-up or anything like personal care. I'd actually fall into the category of someone who medically needs electrolytes and I'd really hate to get them as a gift because I prefer to pick out what is going to particularly be most useful to me.
I stumbled across your videos for the first time this week. I've loved hearing your thoughts on overconsumption and sustainability so far. Also, one of my absolute favorite Christmas movies is White Christmas!
Those heating trays are scary AS HELL. I got a pretty bad burn from it in a hotel just by accidentally touching it with my finger. What if a child would touch it?

I store my warming tray on my appliance shelf in my garage. I keep the acrylic container for my sous vide on top of it because it's not heavy but it is large. I use these things because I have Celiac disease but they're too big for me to store in my kitchen.
The level of insanity with this stuff is mind boggling! To be honest but the worst part to me is the grinch movie lady lighting a match with fuzzy paws!!!! Give me comfy sweats and some candy while I watch the original christmas Carol from 1938 ❤
9:27 I remember getting ads explained to us in school. And I just wonder if that wasn’t a thing in the 90s. Like they explained why people market the way that they do. And that they specifically seek out demographics and do it in a covert way so you wouldn’t know that they’re doing it. I just don’t understand how grown up adults don’t get that. And then go and buy a new Stanley in a different color.
That's so cool that they're explaining this stuff in schools! It wasn't ever explained to us in the 90's which is interesting as consumerism was still pretty rampant, at least where I lived. The only difference I really recognise between ads now and then is the method of marketing was different and maybe slightly less insidious in nature due to the limitations of having to advertise on TV/billboards/magazines. I feel like there was more of a celebrity influence rather than a "I'm-just-like-you-but-with-a-slightly-more-aspirational-lifestyle" influencer culture. It's still no excuse for people my age hoarding 50 different Stanley cups, it's just interesting to see what changes/stays the same over time xD
Shawna, I love your videos! I have a question: When I am clothes shopping I have noticed that sometimes I am influenced to buy into clothing trends without realizing it, then do not like the garment several months later and barely wear it (even when I feel totally convinced I love it and it’s my personal style). I’m sure you’ve already covered this but can you please give us practical tips to discern if a clothing item we really like in the moment will serve us for a long time?
For me the best strategy is to avoid shops 😂 the second is to shop with a list and if I find something outside that list I try to wait for a day before purchasing. Of course that always depends on the situation if that is possible, but quite often it is. Otherwise you could maybe try to think if those purchases have something in common. Have you been in certain mood when you have bought them for example? I think it is great if you do use them and hopefully can donate them afterwards 😊 no one is perfect, and being influenced is so hard to resist sometimes!
I think one of the things that made me hate Christmas when i was a teenager was the marketing and the pressure to always buy more. Now we have a pact of no buy for seasonal items and no gifting in my family, i unexpectedly am looking forward the celebrations! That's so strange but a bit cool too after years of hating Christmas 😂
I have POTs and have to drink ton of electrolytes and eat a lot of salt. I'm one of the few people who leaves my cardiologist worh the recommendation to eat ramen, chips, drink electrolytes and pickle juice! Its such a weird illness!
I don’t have POTs, but also had my doctor instruct me to increase my sodium intake and I feel a million times better. I was lightheaded all the time from water and it helped so much. Thankfully I can usually get away with just adding sea salt to water (plus lemon and to me it’s delicious) but I definitely buy specialty packets on occasion.
In Denmark, we "dance" (walk slowly) around the christmas tree while we sing, so the spinning thing could perhaps be for families who for some reason can't walk around the tree? 😅 Literally the only use I can think of for that one
I started working on getting rid of my debt while saving money and the overconsumption videos are my way to satisfy my non-shopping. I've never bought from a link. I see it as window shopping with a friend while I'm at work, lol. 😅
I didn’t realize it until someone pointed it out to me, but most of these influencers haven’t even tried the product. They’ll say you need to buy some makeup, but it’s brand new, still in the package… completely bonkers.
To be honest though, if you entertain a lot that medium warming tray would be heaven. It’s going to keep your food on temperature which is much safer and you could use it for potlucks cause it only uses one plug vs having 6 crockpots plugged in.
Very true. I could really use one to make hosting less stressful. I will definitely be researching to figure out which type works best for me. Nothing huge, but also not too tiny!
I have to say Shawna, I've been watching your videos for months now and I love your delivery and how your videos have evolved over time! I have been on a successful no/low buy/anticonsumption kick for over 5 years now so I definitely don't need to hear a lot of the advice given, but I always make sure to watch your videos first whenever they show up in my subscription feed and like every video to ensure the algorithm spreads this information far and wide.
If I went over to a friend's house as a kid for a Grinch movie night and the mom came out with all that, I'd think she had blacked out at a TJ Maxx and was going through Something. Where do they store this stuff when the season is over? And the fact that some of the things were consumables?? Cookies for $55?? I think those mug hugger cookies are at Trader Joe's for like $3.
“Ma’am, respectfully, your Christmas tree does not need to spin” nearly spit out my drink😂😂😂

The level of insanity with this stuff is mind boggling! To be honest but the worst part to me is the grinch movie lady lighting a match with fuzzy paws!!!! Give me comfy sweats and some candy while I watch the original christmas Carol from 1938 ❤
love your sweater!!
What did the Grinch lady put in the cups?! Was that cheese on the top?!
I think it was mashed potatoes? I'm confused lol
I was expecting the Grinch gloves she is wearing to catch fire when she was lighting the candles while wearing them 😂
This sweater is so cute!
To be fair. We used to have a spinning tree and it kept the cats out of it lol
Shawna, I love your videos! I have a question:
When I am clothes shopping I have noticed that sometimes I am influenced to buy into clothing trends without realizing it, then do not like the garment several months later and barely wear it (even when I feel totally convinced I love it and it’s my personal style).
Shawna breaking’ it down once again! I love your videos! Ma’am keep them coming!
7:00 you could store it above all your cabinet drawers, that space where old ladies used to put ivy
I only bought one “holiday” dress this year. It just has winter designs so i can honestly wear it all year if want :)
Gurl! Thank you for keeping me sane. These videos are so helpful!❤❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad to hear it!
That "Ma'am!" just gives me internal giggles. 😂
I have POTs and have to drink ton of electrolytes and eat a lot of salt. I'm one of the few people who leaves my cardiologist worh the recommendation to eat ramen, chips, drink electrolytes and pickle juice! Its such a weird illness!
Hii, another POTsie here, I feel you haha
I don’t have POTs, but also had my doctor instruct me to increase my sodium intake and I feel a million times better. I was lightheaded all the time from water and it helped so much. Thankfully I can usually get away with just adding sea salt to water (plus lemon and to me it’s delicious) but I definitely buy specialty packets on occasion.
In Denmark, we "dance" (walk slowly) around the christmas tree while we sing, so the spinning thing could perhaps be for families who for some reason can't walk around the tree? 😅 Literally the only use I can think of for that one
I drink liquid IV most days. I get migraines and drinking half or a third of packet a day has helped me have less migraines.
Oh you're good! I was sold on that tray until you pointed out the size !
20:13 Yeah. Also, I’d rather buy a gift box for a present rather than buying presents to fit within a gift box that I purchased first. Ugh.
I started working on getting rid of my debt while saving money and the overconsumption videos are my way to satisfy my non-shopping. I've never bought from a link. I see it as window shopping with a friend while I'm at work, lol. 😅
Your videos are one of my fav to see while I am doing some boring household chore. It gets me through, while educating.
this is a supreme honour
Thanks for this. My Christmas treee doesn’t need to spin 😂😂😂 man I wanted one of those!!
" You can't put a price on someone's personal safety".... Yes you can Mam ... my spitting my coffee moment hahaha.
Love this series. I like the grinch and the Santa clause!
Loving vlogmas, Shawn!
I have heard liquid iv is mainly mmarketed around hangovers. Which i would be offended to receive.
The only thing I’m finna over-consume is her content ! Thank ya !😌🤨👏🏾
I love your style! That shirt is so cute
I love watching Elf and the Charlie Brown Christmas special.
My cats would LOVE that spinning Christmas tree! LOL
