Very good real world video. Sarah has a lovely presence, great personality! This video confirms my comparisons between the two lenses, and I just LOVE the new 1.4.
Thanks Guys. I actually pre ordered it and received the lens before the release date. Love the lens. Sold my 85mm f/1.2L II to get this one. So happy I did!
I've owned 3 different 85mm primes for my Canon cameras and this is the new King. After 3 days of comparing to my Art Series lens, I listed it for sale. Image stabilization is a huge win and the Sigma being so big and heavy balances best on a large body 1D and gripped 5D, but always felt a but unwieldy without the grip. It made for some clumsy handling and contributed to it's erratic autofocus behavior. The Canon isn't without it's flaws by any means, but it's lighter, sharp as H-E-Double Hockey Sticks, has beautifully smooth bokeh, and impressive autofocus. What more do you need?
Hi, I know this was a year ago but I'm hoping you see this. Did you have/have you used the Canon 85 1.2l mkii? And what are your thoughts compared to the 1.4l?
Great video sarah and lok,i bought this lens a bout 3 days ago.Wow the bokeh is just insane, and the images are so sharp. Can tyou tell me if the parade images are edited or sooc, thanks.
i like when people have the 1dx II and when shooting in vertical they still use the top shutter button. i'll trade you my 6d with grip and i'll put that thing to good use - show you how to use it.
9:56 I love the way Lok pronounces "side by side" and also Lok, do us a favour and put your hands into Sarah's hair like she does it when her hair obstructs her eyes while working, we want to see if a spark flows from either direction!
At the beginning of the video Sarah and Lok are at the Victoria Embankment gardens. At 3:40 they are below Waterloo bridge. At 5:20 below Somerset House. At 7:50 near the Bank and Royal Exchange in the City. At 8:50 on Neal street. At 9:10 they are in Covent Garden. At 10:40 on St. Martin's Lane. The Canon 85mm f/1.2 L was introduced in 2006 and costs around 1850$. The new Canon 85mm f/1.4L IS will cost 1600$. The Canon 85mm f/1.2L is legendary and doesn't cost much more. Of course the new 85mm f/1.4L IS has the recent technology and should be sharper and the Image Stabilization is always a nice feature. However the 85 mm f/1.2 is unique and great. The EF 50mm f/1.2L and EF 85mm f/1.2L are the only autofocus lenses of all lens mounts with f/1.2 aperture. This is very impressive. I strongly suggest the Canon 85mm f/1.2L instead of Canon 85mm f/1.4L IS.
absolutely the 85 1.2 is unique and a beautiful lens in the right environment with available light. It's a personal preference depending on what you shoot ..I do a lot of events so my test was about reliability with auto focus at the widest aperture and if the new IS was reliable or not. Which it is, great for me! x
Awesome lens. Finally Canon seems to work to impress instead of work to sell and mantain the share of the market. I wish i could buy one of these, but they are out of my budget. I may start to save for the tamron 85mm vc, that it is not cheap but can be a nice price for a hobbyist.
In my case it's sometimes just habit. But also that I have a strap on the horizontal grip that I have to wiggle my hand out of if I want to take a portrait shot, and often it's just easier not to bother.
Rediscover Film as a 1DX2 owner who just got home from a shoot this morning with the 85 1.4 and used my vertical buttons constantly, I kept asking the same thing!! Haha I hate having my hand over my head like that.
@Sarahseal: as we spoke earlier on Instagram (universalcreationsphotography) about the focus consistency with this lens, "your" sample isn't consistent either @ 4:24 it's not on the face, but in front of it. I had some more time testing it. At larger focus distance it is quite consistent, but on shorter distance (less than 2 meter), it isn't consistent. I tested 2 samples on 3 camera's: 5DS, 1DX2 and 5D3. Great review btw and I really like your enthusiasm. When can we see more reviews of you? Maybe together with PB?
Well done Lok and Sarah, an excellent video review that was immensely 'informative' because of Sarah's experience of the 1.2, this makes a nice change from the usual review format.
Jip, and autofocus is really slow although faster than with the mk1. Manual focus with the Sigma Art is way better, but not as smooth as with a proper manual focus lens.
I’m the same... had a grip for my Nikon F80... almost always forgot to use it after 10 years of shooting without one. When I test a pro camera now I have to mentally remember to try out the grip in portrait orientation as otherwise I just rotate as usual.
Haha, the chick has a 1D body and when changing from landscape to portrait, she doesn’t take advantage of the extra shutter button Canon installed on the 1D bodies to be used in portrait mode, specifically to avoid that uncomfortable twist of the wrist and, more importantly, that unstable, flying high elbow we can see in the footage....🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
she speaks as if the 1.4 replaces the 1.2, it doesn’t. if her 1.2 isn’t accurate she needs to micro adjust. mine also focuses fine in low light. all of her issues with the 1.2 are user error.
stoplossM4 absolute nonsense. The 85mm F1.2 is slow and a massive pain in the butt for autofocus. The f1.4 is night and day better. I sold my F1.2 for the sigma art as I just got fed up with it and I can categorically say there is no user error on my part. Why not try the F1.4 to see if Sarah is right or not. SPOILER: she is right.
What the hell is she doing with her cameras sensor exposed like that 2:52 great way to ruin your camera if something flies in there or scratches your sensor
Myman flint - Be careful when you shoot ...out from your mouth? In this case it appears you have no people skills and makes you seem amateurish... but I'm sure I could be completely wrong.
Yo bro I love you a lot used to watch you on digital review but you got to work on your accent I can only understand about 50% of what you're saying not trying to be rude.
JasonSPhotoGuy ...I'm sure he's aware...he's I proved immensely over the years, too. Try speaking mandarin or Cantonese for awhile, you'll appreciate his English skills. :) BTW... your comment didn't seem rude at all, to me... just an honest observation. Of course, my opinion doesn't count.
Good to see Sarah so joyful and excited. 😃
Very good real world video. Sarah has a lovely presence, great personality! This video confirms my comparisons between the two lenses, and I just LOVE the new 1.4.
Great to work with you all! X
+Sarah Seal A fun and productive afternoon!
It was great watching you guys have fun from the comfort of my home, too. No running around, no sweating. :-)
You’ve got great energy Sarah. Good fit with Lok.
+Benny Löfgren we do the work so you don’t have to!
You were great! Is the sticking elbow out whilst shooting portrait an old habit from shooting without a battery grip?
I'm struggle with these two lens lately. This is the most detailed comparison on youtube so far. I think I can make the decision now, thank you guys.
Thanks Guys. I actually pre ordered it and received the lens before the release date. Love the lens. Sold my 85mm f/1.2L II to get this one. So happy I did!
How would you compare the AF speed to other lenses? Is it as fast as the 135 or 70-200?
SlickRick you’re a moron lol
Uhhh canon's colour 😍 unbeatable
nice presentation of the new lens.. Great combo Lok and Sarah .. hope to see them together again in future videos!
Randall Herrera I hope so too!
I got it for 6 months and it's amazing. The IS does an amazing job
LOVE IT! Your best video ever Lok! :)
Philip Bloom unbiased of course lol
What is your relation with Sarah, Philip?
are you the one who shoot this video Mr.Phillip 👌🏻😂
Sarah and Lok sold me on this lens.

hire her, she is awesome and a perfect addition!!
Great video sarah and lok,i bought this lens a bout 3 days ago.Wow the bokeh is just insane, and the images are so sharp. Can tyou tell me if the parade images are edited or sooc, thanks.
Just picked up this lens. OMG! Love it!
Sahara going perfectly well with photography spirit with respect for subjects and human being on the streets

rialbb habit :)!
still up for tradesies? ;)
LOK IS LEGEND!!
Sarah's enthusiasm is infectious. Hope to see more of you. Lok was ok too I suppose 😉
+Paul Madden we hope so too!
Great example of a RUclips colab. Do more!
Sara u are the best Camerawoman😍😘

Great video guys. I’ve decided to go for this lens. Might need to wait for a good deal.
Nice review ! Thank you Sarah & Lok !
I wish they had also compared it to the old 85 f1.8.
First class co-presenter you should hire her 👍

Nice review, more Sarah please :-)

Why do people use cameras with vertical grips on them like that 1D, then not even use the vertical grip. So strange.
Rediscover Film Sometimes it’s just faster this way I think
Happens to me quite a lot :D Just a habit when it come to quick shot in my case :D
In my case it's sometimes just habit. But also that I have a strap on the horizontal grip that I have to wiggle my hand out of if I want to take a portrait shot, and often it's just easier not to bother.

Rediscover Film - sometimes it's quicker to turn than to flip... depends on time to capture.
Wow!! Cool lens😊
That canon camera and lens are huge!
I love the video 👍🏾 keep up the great work
I love her camera strap where can I get one from ?
I need this lens in my life!

Glad you enjoyed it, hopefully here with PGN, so subscribe to them and I
ll be about :D
I've subscribed to PGN when Lok joined them. Looking forward to another collaboration between PGN and you.
The 1.2 remains my favorite.
Sarah thank you for your review of the canon 1.4 85mm L Please what is the make of the camera strap on your 1dx Kind Regards John N
i am buying this 100% for my 6D
I bet the video recording was done around Chelsea and I got the Canon EF 85mm 1.8 lens
She's funny, cute and loves camera gear.. Alamby 2.0 has arrived lol
tsociety This video is about a Canon lens, why do you need to point out her looks? How about the guys, do you think they are cute too?
Yeah Lok's very cute :3
Nice one Sarah and Lok!
Looks great, I wonder how it compares to the Sony version
Well done Lok and Sarah, an excellent video review that was immensely 'informative' because of Sarah's experience of the 1.2, this makes a nice change from the usual review format.
John Haynes thank you! X
I so need this for my Mark IV
Thanks you... it’s easier to choose the lens!!! 👏
The rendition looks amazing!
She is using 1dx or maybe 1dxm2. And I wonder why isn't she using vertical grip?
fun vid :)
B E A UTIFUL, great lens and good demo..... but hell, that price tag!!
Lok is hilarious, acting like he is unfamiliar with that 85 f1.2L when it was a mainstay for years on Digital Rev. 😂
Definitely a lens on the wish list : )
totally thought she was Amy Adams at first glance.
Превосходные обьективы! Спасибо.
Such energy..!!
Come on Canon. 135mm f2 II IS please!
nice video ;3 more plssss
Sarah is lovely!
Hi Sarah your heavy duty camera strap who are the supplier please ? Regards & lve the video
Has camera with built-in vertical grip; doesn't use it.
I think I'm in love
You and me both, lol
I wonder what that vertical grip is for on Sarah's 1DX 4:22 ;-)
Ian Wilkinson habit!!! 🤭
Ian Wilkinson also much easier to switch between both !
I always find myself doing just that
What's the price of the lens she's using at 5:41 ?
Very cool neck strap Sarah, what is it?
Peak Design :) x
Excellent
Thank you well Done
Wow Lok is back.
bought the Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 L IS USM . . . . Today
Do you still use it?
@@Sergey_Sergeev no, sold it after a few days
Cool
what's the name of camera strap she's wearing?
Donny Johnson peak design :) x
From the photographer herself! Thank you much! Cheers,
The hood spins with focus ring on the old 85mm 1.2? How weird.
It is weird.
when the camera is off there is no power to the 85mm f1.2 and the focus barrel is 100% electronic. Manual focus with it is awful
Jip, and autofocus is really slow although faster than with the mk1. Manual focus with the Sigma Art is way better, but not as smooth as with a proper manual focus lens.
Lok's not hot, Lok can never be hot.
+SatanSupimpa Lynx Effect
Me on the other hand.... I blame man made fibres!
You're all hot!
it's not so big difference in price, so why?
Stop lying Lok this is Amy Lou Adams not Sarah :)
#AsianFever
Ill stick to my Otus 85mm
show off!
Josh Jones nice!!!
Excuse you, mr jones :) ... nice lens you've got there
I really like her.
Sarah very nice shoot
Aces!
Interesting. Good going.
Different tone than the 1.2
Canon 85mm dream lens 1.2
Sarah is great, but one thing is she's using a 1Dx, but sticks her elbow out when shooting in portrait mode? Old habits?
dpanch_89 yep 🤣
I’m the same... had a grip for my Nikon F80... almost always forgot to use it after 10 years of shooting without one.
When I test a pro camera now I have to mentally remember to try out the grip in portrait orientation as otherwise I just rotate as usual.
~ I love Sarah .. I love this lens .. I love my Canon 5D Mk4 .. :-)
ah found it Regards John
Good
If Kai is in this vid, the thumbnail will be def different.😁
Mark Roxas she’s way better than Kai! 😊
This- i have no doubt.. Not a big deal though... different people -diff personalities.
True and true. Hope to see more of her in this channel. Thanks, Philip ang Gewglesux!
2:46
why every second professional photographer on YT has a British accent?
hi.. i think you are from digital rev before?? 😂

The 1.4 will replace my 1.2. It is significantly faster in low light and focus is more reliable. Have you tried the 1.4? Please try it :- )
The words on the video ruined it😢
The words?
What the hell is she doing with her cameras sensor exposed like that 2:52 great way to ruin your camera if something flies in there or scratches your sensor
Like what?
This guy has such a weird voice.
she is absolutely terrible.
only God can understand what the Chinese guy say!
Haim Green BOW DOWN BEFORE ME , FOR I CAN UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING ‘what the Chinese guy say’
Richard Sibley i bow before fellow understanding what the Chinese guy say brother
Errrr, casual racism?
It IS very hard to understand what he is saying...
She doesnt know what shes doing! No exposure triangle skills.
Myman Flint Please tell me how you jumped to that conclusion? (P.S. You have no apostrophe skills!)
I was testing wide open IS, thanks though 🤓
