Miss Mary, if I wanted a manual (non electric) flaker, could I use a manual pasta machine? I saw one video that someone did use a pasta machine but finding a manual flaker is extremely hard. I've watched videos today buy when I search for the flakers they used in the videos, they are not to be found. I value your thoughts and appreciate your time. Thank you and God bless 🙏
My properly stored, but older (12 year) oat groats had kind of a "musty" smell, like and old book. Prior to flaking, I toasted the groats on a sheet pan at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. The results had a pleasant nutty aroma that carried through into the oatmeal. The texture of the flaked product was also "lighter" and more broken up rather than just a single flattened grain. Next time, I think I will try toasting the oats after they have been flaked and see what happens. The toasted flavor is pleasing enough that I find I can use less sweetener to make an appetizing meal.
I was so excited for you to share this I kept thinking, c’mon Mary get to the flaker!!! 🤭 You are so gracious to do so much of the footwork for us. I have learned SO much from you - anytime I come up with a question I always think to check with you to see if you have the answer and usually you have it covered! You are a sweet blessing to so many!
Muesli video please. Almost embarrassed to say but dont think I have really heard about Muesli and I am about your age. I have learned so much on your channel. Many items I have never heard of but have seen in store but didnt know how to use. Some things I just have never heard of and I am about your age🤔 You are such a wonderful teacher and so sweet! Blessing
I am so excited for this I have a grain mill but its not a mock mill I love the idea of getting a flaker!! Oh sweet friend Mary you've had such a positive impact on my life!
I've seen a number of videos using rolled oats in bread. Sometimes one is instructed to grind the oat flakes into flour, and sometimes they are used as whole flakes. My thought is that if you have flaked grain, then it is easy to grind in a blender or food processor into flour. I do believe that a grain begins to lose nutrition once it is "broken," so a home flaker permits you to prepare the grain on demand. What a wonderful thing to know. Also, flakes cook faster than whole grains which is good to know if fuel is not abundant. I find this product exciting in its potential. Thank you so much for showing us all about this.
I have a Komo classic grain mill. I set it on a coarse setting and grind my oat groats with it. I mix 1/2c of oats with 1.5 c milk , 2 sliced bananas, walnuts and raisins and microwave for 5 minutes, stir and cook 3 minutes on power of six. Add pumpkin pie spice and milk to serve. It’s my favorite breakfast.
First, love your 2 new coffee makers! Lol I love the idea of flaking oats. I didn't even know we could do that. You are teaching me so, so much. I am an eager and grateful learner. Love, PJ
Wow! I love rolled oats I may have to get one just to have more nutrient and enzyme rich oats! 😃 Thank you for this honest demo, I love your sincere surprise and joy at the result! 💖
Would adore seeing a video on making muesli !!! Always looking for new ideas or better technique for creating wonderful, healthy food. What is the likelihood of getting a show on homemade "snacks" ?? My SHTF food plan is for 2 heavy/traditional meals and 2 "snacks" . (Snacks will vary from light to heavy depending on season and work load.) I also plan on having a continuously available beverage (bone broth to lemonade to water )
Thank you precious Mary! This was so interesting, because I've never heard of this kitchen tool before. I can't wait to get one because I love that you get more nutrition plus more volume!
Research God's time/calendar in Genesis 1:14. God MAY allow “The Powers To Be “ to enforce some type of “Sabbath Law” to see if we will keep His law or no before He delivers His scattered people from the nations. How can the true Sabbath be Friday, Saturday, Sunday, etc, if we are commanded by God in Genesis 1:14 to let the lights in heaven be for days, years, etc.? Besides, the beginning of God's months start with the new moon days. The Gregorian Calendar hanging on our walls, in our houses, do not start it’s months with the new moon day as the scriptures testify. The new moon day falls anywhere and everywhere on that time/calendar....How can the beginning of the month start in the midst of a month or, how can the first day of the month also be the seventh day Sabbath? God has three category of days, the new moon day, the six work days and the Sabbath day, they never, ever, overlaps each other. Ezekiel 46:1-3, 2 Kings 4:17-23. Look at the scriptures in Genesis 7:11, Genesis 8:4,5,13,14 and tell me what and whose time/calendar is being used here? We must abandon our traditions, stop worshiping God in vain and do things God’s way. Let us not deceive ourselves, there will be no good reward for keeping man’s doctrines in the place of what God commands. We make God's Word of none effect when we cling to our traditions. Mark 7 COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE!
I recently received a (German made) Messerschmidt flaker accessory for my KitchenAid mixer. It operates a little differently in that it uses one serrated roller and pushes it against a smooth anvil. Accomplishes the same thing and I love the results. Flaked rice makes wonderful cream of rice cereal. Adding some flaked flax seeds breaks them open and releases the oils inside making them much more digestible.
I’m sure you will love your flaker! I have had a flaker attachment to my Ankarsrum mixer for about two years, and have stopped buying old fashioned rolled oats completely. The flaker makes it so easy to have really fresh rolled oats, that buying the rolled oats is not at all appealing. (Have you ever noticed packaged rolled oats can sometimes have an “off smell”? They’re old!) it is sometimes a bit more challenging to find affordable oat groats, but I have found them on Amazon, at my local organic store in bulk (the best price so far), and at my local Amish market. Please make some videos of cooking with freshly-flaked oats; I’d love to get more people using these flakers, so we can increase the market, which might make the groats a bit easier to find.
Thank you for doing this review! I was 3 cups in to manually flaking enough groats for 16 cups of flakes when I started searching for an electric option.
Hi Mary....I hope you will take my comment in the spirit of helpfulness in which I make it: Muesli is pronounced mews-lee not mews-el-eye. And it always tastes good no matter how it is pronounced :P
I ordered my Mockmill 200 and am just waiting for it to actually be shipped. I LOVE their site and their grains! I’ve purchased a number of their different grains and have been super happy with them.
Thank you for these wonderfully informative videos. You are such a sweet and genuine person and I love learning from you! I'm wondering if you can sprout the grains before flaking them?
Hi Mary! I just found you & have watched a bunch of your videos. EXCELLENT CONTENT! you are so nice I would listen to you describe how water boils! Please don't ever stop making content@
Hi Cheryl, thanks so much! And yes, we are just loving our new coffee pots. Our other one was limping along and turning on and off whenever it felt like it. We would wake up in the middle of the night and smell coffee brewing and we would think… Oh no!… What’s going on? And then the other one was very old and it didn’t have an automatic shut off and I would often forget to turn it off! And then leave the house… Egad! But in any event we shopped around and found these at our grocery store for a good price and with a coupon so we decided to bite the bullet. I had hoped to find white coffee pots but you just can’t find them anymore. So I had to settle for stainless steel. But the coffee pots work great!! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@Kathy Wynn Yes. You sprout them and then dehydrate them before grinding. That’s how sprouted flour is made. You can also grind sprouts wet to make a flourless bread.
Thanks for sharing another useful tool for our preparedness pantry, Mary. We will definitely consider this if we need to replace our current mill attachment. Have a blessed weekend.
Hello Mary. I am a fairly new subscriber and fell in love with your RUclips channel. Also, I love both you and your husband and your son. Their videos have me in stitches :) Wish you had a few more on-hand cooking demos. Please connect with Clean Food Living. Would love to see both of you connect. She could be a younger sister :) I bet you are just one hell of a cook. There are similar channels out there, but for some reason, I always come back to both of your guys' videos. I'm learning so much. I would never have guessed you were a transplant from N.Y. You're just so damn sweet that I wondered if you were just for show. But after seeing videos of your husband and son, I could not believe how real you truly are. Give me some time and I will become one of your patrons. But, I would really love to see at least once a month if not more, some on-hand cooking classes. More enjoyable would be to see your husband and son in the kitchen with you. Happy Memorial weekend to you and your families :)
There is a machine for everything😊 I need a mill before I get a flaker for sure! No room (yet). With the electric prices going up and up I think I'd prefer manual all the way round, free exercise for the amounts I would need😁
This Flaker is definitely going on my shopping list! Thank you for the coupon, too. I have a Mock Mill grain mill and I am so happy with it; and yes, I had to wait 6 weeks or so due to back orders, but it is happily in my kitchen now. Love your videos-they are so packed with information♥️
Great video and thanks for sharing about the new Mockmill Flaker. That's all I need, another kitchen appliance :) By the way, inflation and "life" have certainly raised the price of the Mockmill 100. I bought mine with your code a year or so ago for around $260 or $270 and now it is $310. . .woof! Thanks again, Mary and be well.
Hello can you do a video on growing kalonji cumin nigella staiva black seed if so can you also tell where did you buy them from thank you and you have a bless day
Hello Mary and thank you for the informative video. I just got my Mockmill Flaker, so happy. I used oat groats (nothing was done to them before, soaking, etc.). It worked great BUT I ended up with envelop kind of skins in my oatmeal… I had to pick them one by one… should I do anything before I flake the oat grouts? Should I soak the flakes in water and apple vinegar, just like you did in your video? It is so good, but I am worried I can’t use these flakes in other recipes line granolas, etc… I hope you can give me advices about this… and also, what should I do to other types of grains, like einkorn, barley, etc. before flaking them? Thank you so much in advance. I love your videos and recipes! ❤️❤️❤️
Mary could I use these flakes just as I do store bought ones? I make oatmeal in the instant pot so that I can set it up the night before with water. Please don't think me lazy. I have health issues and doing this ensures my husband gets a good breakfast before work. I love the idea of a flaker I have a mill, I try to do and store as much as I can on days when my body allows, I will say that as my kitchen has changed so has my strength and health.. much love to you and many blessings!
I saw a flaker for both the Kitchenaid (my Blue one is named Cora Joy, my silver one is Betty and my red one is Sue) and I saw a flaker for the Bosch mixer (yet to be named) what are your thoughts on these type flakers?
Thank you for this thorough review! I'm looking into the flaker attachment for my Bosch mixer. 👍🏼😊 Also, I've never heard anyone pronounce muesli that way. I've always said it with the letter i making a long e sound. Perhaps I've been mispronouncing it all this time! 🤷🏻♀️🤔
First of all, I would like to say thanks for all of your wonderful videos. I am new to this and you have taught me so much. If you don't mind, I do have a question--------When canning tomatoes, you have told us that the jars need to be warm. You said the jars also need bottled lemon juice to them . If the lemon juice is straight out of the refrigerator, does it need to meet room temperature before putting it in the canning jar, or do you need to use a fresh bottle that isn't cold yet each time? I hope that makes sense. THANKS
Hi Felicia, the Little bit of lemon juice that you’ll be using won’t make a difference based on its temperature. So either way is fine. Hope this helps. Thank you for all the kind words! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
What I like is to make things FRESH no matter what. I have nothing to base this on..except perhaps nearly all foods are better fresher. (More nutrients over store bought from the shelf).
Hi Mary. I love your videos & you seem like a happy & sweet person. Just wanted to ask, I remember awhile back you did a tutorial on homemade yogurt & you said that if you want to see a raw milk version, to let you know. I was just wondering if you can finally do a video on that because I want to make my own yogurt but raw milk is the milk I drink, so I want to use that as I'm trying my best to stay away from the pasteurized stuff 😊
From the Mockmill flaker page, things that CANNOT be flaked are corn (too big), pumpkin seeds (too big), nuts like almonds, peanuts, cashews (too oily), coffee, legumes (too big). Sorry.
Hi Lori, that’s a great question. I think red weed whether wood to her spring is going to be similar and flavor but your white wheat will be milder in flavor if that’s what you’re looking for. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
That’s a great question. When my son was a baby I usually just made individual foods. I would follow the instructions from Sally Fallon’s book Nourishing Traditions. I would feed whole real foods mashed up at the appropriate age. Things like egg yolk, liver, sweet potatoes, etc. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Love the flaker. Can see all kinds of flakes ( myself excluded). Couscous, barley, bran, spelt, farrow, Quinoa. Do u think it could do rice or wild rice?
Hi Mary, Thanks for all you do. I was wondering if you could recommend a good appliance to make oat milk as well as powdered coconut sugar? I haven't had luck with anything I've tried. I've settled for watery oat milk with most of the oats forming at the bottom the next day after refrigerated.
Hi Mary! Could I roll the grains in ahead of time instead of rolling them every day? you know, morning time is quite limited. I know that as for freshly milled flour is best to use it right away. so what about the rolled grains?
Very informative video of a really fascinating machine. I couldn't help but notice your little statuettes in the background that kind of resemble Mary and her sisters(?) and some little man holding an infant. Darn it, I hit enter too soon...wasn't finished typing. 😂I was just curious as to who these little ''people'' represent.
Oh Rachel, You are so sweet to notice. The tall statue is Mary the Blessed Mother (as the kitchen Madonna). The man is Saint Anthony holding baby Jesus. And the lady sitting down is Saint Anne (Mary’s mother) with Mary as a little girl. Maybe to some this will sound a little hokey, but I enjoy having religious statues and religious pictures around my house because they help to remind me to always live my life for the glory of God. So glad you’re here! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest I thought they were religious statuettes. 💖💖 Not hokey at all. I guess I have an eye for detail and that's why I notice various things in the background. Same thing happens when I watch movies or TV shows, I'm looking at everything in the scene besides watching the character, actor, host, etc.

You are teaching me so, so much. I am an eager and grateful learner.
Love, PJ
Hi Mary I love your new coffee pots. Oh I love it thank you for sharing
Wow! I love rolled oats I may have to get one just to have more nutrient and enzyme rich oats! 😃 Thank you for this honest demo, I love your sincere surprise and joy at the result! 💖
Yes please make it.
Thank you again!
This is Great ... now let me dig for a manual one due to living off grid... very nice instructions again simple and sweet. Thank you.
I understand completely. Check with Lehmans - I think they sell one. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Yes, please make the muesli for us ! 🥰
Will do!
Thank you precious Mary! This was so interesting, because I've never heard of this kitchen tool before. I can't wait to get one because I love that you get more nutrition plus more volume!
Thank you Mary for your very interesting channel
This is very interesting and useful, thank you. Yes! I for one would like to learn how you make your Bircher muesli. Have a good weekend :)
This was so interesting. I would love to hear more about the uses. Thank you Mary.
I would love to see you make the Muesli!
So much I did not know. Thank you. This opened my eyes to new ways I may use grains.
This is a great video. I never knew they had an electric flaker. Thank you. Yes, i would like to see how to make the musli
I ordered my mock mill using your discount last month. Can’t wait until it comes in June
Yes, please show how to make museli
Thank you for doing this review! I was 3 cups in to manually flaking enough groats for 16 cups of flakes when I started searching for an electric option.
Thank you so much. I will use your link when I purchase
Please show lots of grain flake and grind receipies❤️
I am so not a flour, grain person. Looks very productive for those who are!
Thank for the information. This is a new home kitchen tool to me.
Very Nice video. I would like to see other video on a variety of was to use.
Very neat tool! Thanks for sharing.
Mary! You are at 600k subs! How wonderful! It’s so great to see you grow! We love your content!
I love my Mockmill Grain Mill!
I’d love to see you make the muselei!
Hi Mary....I hope you will take my comment in the spirit of helpfulness in which I make it: Muesli is pronounced mews-lee not mews-el-eye. And it always tastes good no matter how it is pronounced :P
Hi Heather, you are 100% correct. I am the queen of mispronunciation! LOL! ❤️🤗❤️
I ordered my Mockmill 200 and am just waiting for it to actually be shipped. I LOVE their site and their grains! I’ve purchased a number of their different grains and have been super happy with them.
Would love to see your muesli ❤️. Thank you Mary!
New sub here! I just got my Flaker. Thank you for doing this video!❤️
Thank you for these wonderfully informative videos. You are such a sweet and genuine person and I love learning from you! I'm wondering if you can sprout the grains before flaking them?
That is such a great idea. I’m confident you could sprout them and just make sure that they’re completely dry before flaking them. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Looks like a great flaker!
Hi Mary! I just found you & have watched a bunch of your videos. EXCELLENT CONTENT! you are so nice I would listen to you describe how water boils! Please don't ever stop making content@
Hi Joanne, Welcome!! And thank you so much for the kind words. Glad you’re here! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Thanks for the informative video, Mary. Of course I used your link to order one. Please stop spending my money for me! LOL Pam
Too cute!! 😂
I like just about anything you show us. Thank you for being so informative!!!
I’d love to see a video on making muesli
Kitchen size, perfect!. I was hoping I wouldn't have to pick up the large model from an Amish auction.
I didn't know they made home flakers. May have to try this for Myous-lee. 🙂
Thanks for the phonetic spelling. I am the queen of mispronunciation! LOL!!
Mary, you are so pleasent and uplifting! Thank you for doing all of the resurch for us on this product. Are you enjoying the new coffee makers?
Thanks for the review. Would love seeing all your favourite uses for the flakes. 😀
Thank you for sharing! A great way to stretch your whole grains. And you can sprout them beforehand.
Hi Rob, Hope you and the family are having a great weekend! Love to all, Mary
There is a machine for everything😊
I need a mill before I get a flaker for sure! No room (yet).
With the electric prices going up and up I think I'd prefer manual all the way round, free exercise for the amounts I would need😁
this is very interesting.. I LOVE muesli, can't wait to see you make yours. Ty ty
Could you please show us how you make muesli? My family loves muesli and it’s so expensive. I think making it myself will save a lot of money.
I'd love to see you prepare your recipe for muesli!
Coming soon!
Awesome I guess I need an new kitchen tool
I would be interested in learning how to make muesli. thanks for the video
What a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to learning how you make muesli. Very informative. Glad I discovered your channel.
Welcome!
Thank you for sharing your videos. I loved that where we can make are own flour. I loved hazelnut flour. Thank you ❣️
Mary, please show us how to make muesli! Thank you so much.
I definitely want to see the museli video!
I'm not sure how to spell that recipie you said you could show us, but yes please. 😄👍💖
Will do!! ❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest thank you 😁
Hello can you do a video on growing kalonji cumin nigella staiva black seed if so can you also tell where did you buy them from thank you and you have a bless day
Hello Mary and thank you for the informative video. ❤️❤️❤️
Can you make a creamy sweet -n- sour salad dressing? Can not find marzettis In the stores anymore!
Love you & your channel, Mary!
Thank you so much for showing us this, and by the way, Muesli is pronounced M-you Zlee
Thanks again & much love
Mary could I use these flakes just as I do store bought ones? I make oatmeal in the instant pot so that I can set it up the night before with water. Please don't think me lazy. I have health issues and doing this ensures my husband gets a good breakfast before work. I love the idea of a flaker I have a mill, I try to do and store as much as I can on days when my body allows, I will say that as my kitchen has changed so has my strength and health.. much love to you and many blessings!
Definitely! Love, Mary
I love you sweet friend!!
I saw a flaker for both the Kitchenaid (my Blue one is named Cora Joy, my silver one is Betty and my red one is Sue) and I saw a flaker for the Bosch mixer (yet to be named) what are your thoughts on these type flakers?
Would love to see a video making muesili
Thank you for this thorough review! I'm looking into the flaker attachment for my Bosch mixer. 👍🏼😊 Also, I've never heard anyone pronounce muesli that way. I've always said it with the letter i making a long e sound. Perhaps I've been mispronouncing it all this time! 🤷🏻♀️🤔
Mary needs to check Google for the proper pronunciation of muesli. She's adding a second "i".
I am the queen of mispronunciation! LOL!!🤣🤣🤣
@@MarysNest I trust just about everything you say, so I was pretty sure that I could be wrong! 🤷🏻♀️🥰 I'm still not sure! 😉 Enjoy your weekend! ☀️
I have the flaker for my Bosch. I actually got it on Facebook Marketplace, believe it or not. I really like it, although I do like this one.
@@MarysNest thank you so much for your quick response.......
I would have loved to see you flake rice.
Will do!
Can you use this on dried peas?
Make your own split peas?
I will do that but also keep in mind that the best way to culture raw milk is to clabber it. I will show how to do that too. Love, Mary
This is great, thanks for the detailed demonstration. Can it make corn flakes from dried corn kernels?
That’s a great question I’ll have to check the website and see if they say that corn can be flaked.🤗
@@MarysNest Is flaked corn the same as cracked?
From the Mockmill flaker page, things that CANNOT be flaked are corn (too big), pumpkin seeds (too big), nuts like almonds, peanuts, cashews (too oily), coffee, legumes (too big). Sorry.
Linden Whitfield thank you!
Can you please tell me if there is a difference in taste or witch red wheat berry to get winter or spring
Hi Lori, that’s a great question. I think red weed whether wood to her spring is going to be similar and flavor but your white wheat will be milder in flavor if that’s what you’re looking for. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Mary, can I use this to mill grain for baking bread? Or at the flakes too big?
The flakes are the same size as old-fashioned rolled oats. You could grind them in a blender to make flour. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Can you adjust how thick the flakes are? or would you even want to?
With all your wonderful wisdom would you touch on the subject of making baby food, and the most nutritious way to go about it.
You can definitely flake rice. I’ll have to check the website to see if you can do wild rice. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest Thanks, Mary. Love your show. You are really VERY good 👍❤️
Hi Mary,
Thanks for all you do.
Can I use steel cut oat groats?
can you make corn flakes with that machine? like kellog corn flakes?
That’s a great question. I don’t know for sure. I will have to check their website to see if you can flake whole corn. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest Thank you very much for taking the time to answer me. i wish you a beautiful day in our Lord and Savior's name Jesus Christ.
@@krisguinelae thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
