@@tan3964 Read the labels. Most have salt as a preservative, so if you don't have to watch salt intake, most are safe. I'm not sure about the salt-free varieties, I haven't bought them. I usually get frozen veg since I live alone and fresh goes bad before I can use it.
Mary, I have a question for you. Can you freeze Country crockery butter that is in a tub? (Its a tub of butter that you get from walmart) .. I want to freeze it and use it like if you get a stick of butter.. If that makes sense? I want to make biscuits but dont have sticks of butter to make the biscuits. I hope that makes sense? Thanks for any feedback.
I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for
I’m with you on that. My husband is 62 and just lost his job from the hospital. He has found others, from the same hospital, around the same age who have also be let go. Of course right ahead of retirement age. I’m 53 and have been disabled for 10 years now. All the money going out and none coming in right now. How are we suppose to save for retirement now.
My husband and I have lost a lot of our investment money that we worked so hard for. He is still working at age 70. We are always looking for bargains at the grocery store, so I very much appreciate Mary taking us through Costco to see what’s available and what she recommends.
I used to consider preppers are pessimistic people (a bit crazy). Now in my fifties, I am teaching my workers to prepare for hard times. Usually the poor suffers the most in times like this. Thanks Mary.
Also with flour if you put it in the freezer for 24-48 hrs before opening if small amount or even after portioned out to smaller for storage it will kill all the bug eggs and you won’t get all those little bugs when stored on the shelf 👍🏻. Saw that on another prepping RUclips 😃
If anyone has a scratch and dent store or soon to reach best buy date food store in your area, go check it out. I have gotten food from places like that before and had no issues. It's hard times but not impossible to make it and make your money stretch. Hope it helps someone. Be Blessed.
The glass containers are a third of what I pay for Glasslock! I order from Azure Standard but I will have to get a Costco card because some of the prices are significantly cheaper than Azure. My husband vac seals flour in maylar bags but I will have to find out how he does it. We mainly keep whole berries and mill it but I do keep 50-100 lbs of AP on hand. I;ve been making your apple scrap vinegar for a couple of years now and I will not go back to buying. I want to like Redmond but both times I bought it, it was like eating gravel mixed with sand. The mineral chunks are like rocks 😫
Mary's the best! If you want to follow what's happening globally that's bringing about this madness, I recommend Neil McCoy Ward on RUclips. This mess was planned a long time ago by the World Economic Forum. Our politicians go along!
Hi Mary! I am moving back to USA from Japan on 11/1… Your videos and website and this one in particular are helpful to me. Thank you for helping sort out my future life. I am retiring and moving home to take care of my 95-year old mother and 99-year old godmother…. You have helped me so much with figuring out what to do to keep my family together. God bless you, and may we always be connected, at least virtually.
Wanted to share my canned chicken story. I had never bought canned chicken until 2020 at the start of the pandemic. My mother raised us to keep certain staples on hand but she preferred canned fish like salmon, sardines and herring. So in 2020 I decided to add canned chicken but never used them. Then just about two weeks ago, concerned about the used by date and not wanting to waste them I decided to try my instant pot chicken and rice using the canned chicken. It turned out really good, I was surprised. It has opened up my thinking to try other things. Thank you so much for your videos and the useful information you provide.
I never bought any until 2020 either. I now also home can chicken. The only difference I use in cooking it is I put it in near the end of the cooking period. It stays chunky and delicious
I want to tell everyone that I preordered a bunch of rotisserie chicken. You can ask the store to season or make them plain! I can it instead of freezing and I take all of the skins and bones and make bone broth and can that too. It’s absolutely amazing. I would suggest everyone get comfortable canning and preserving! Start gardening too. Ask neighbors to get involved. ❤️
I have been canning meat too. Been prepping for a while. I am 65 and lost my house and 50% of my savings in 2008. I see this happening as quick as our government can get it done.
@@susanwickman3603 - I’m in my 50’s. In Texas on 10 acres. If you need a place to live, let me know! I’m alone, but not lonely. ❤️ I’m a female. I agree with you.
@@Sabbathissaturday you are so sweet, I have recovered and live in a retirement community. I have a raised garden bed but you are so fortunate to have 10 acres to grow your own food. I grew up on a farm so I have a lot of survival skills. Again, thank you for your beautiful offer.❤
Blessings Mary from sunny Chicago at 78 degrees. I organize a shopping list for the seniors in my building to help us stock and save. When someone's family takes them to Sam's or Costco, they have our list. We share in the stock and the cost to save space and money.
Another thing ive been thinking about is that we need to start collecting bake ware that has the oven proof matching lids so we aren't a slave to using foil. Roaster pans with lids. Cassarole dishes with matching glass or stone lids etc etc....😉
Hi Mary, thanks for the Cosco specials, definitely helpful. I have my aunt soon to become 95 years old, I care for her approximately 24/7 enjoy her very much, I don’t get to go out too often but I’m ok with that. Definitely making my way there this week. Love & God bless you also!
I love the tip of how to store flour to keep it safe! Great tip! When I bring flour into my home I always pop it in the freezer for at least 24 hours or until I need to open a new package. This kills the eggs of the mites that are in all grains and keeps them from hatching and making a mini colony in your flour or grain. Hope this helps one of your viewers. ❤
this helped me...I never really knew flour could go bad...I tend to throw things out a lot sooner than is necessary, after eating a lot of expired food growing up, but with food prices and scarcity that has to stop. If I have flour in the freezer for 6 months it will not impart a freezer taste to my food?
Dear Mary! would you be so kind as to share your advice on budgeting for families in these challenging times we are all suffering? I am sure your wisdom will benefit many of your subscribers. Greeting from Spain.

Buy in bulk, and bake all of your own breads ,cookies and cook in bulk and put in freezer in containers .that will make a huge difference also us meat as a side dish not the main dish.good luck.all this has mad a big difference for my family.lf it’s to much work share the cooking by giving everyone in the family something to master to cook.
Mary is the best. Check out her aldi and trader joes videos as well. Even if you dont have those stores she gives great advice on what to look for as far as healthy ingredients that are also budget friendly
After freezing my flour for a few days, I remove it and let it come to room temperature and then I vacuum seal it in my foodsaver bag, but I leave it in the original bag. Not sure why anyone would remove it from the original bag just to put it in another brown bag. Then again. My bags are already 5lbs, not the giant bags. Then those bags go into a bucket
I just want to say THANK YOU for taking your time to do this... to educate us. I'm eternally grateful for people like you who are so generous with your time and knowledge! I've learned tons just from today's video! Btw.... that was a very good tip from the lady about food saving flour in the paper and then in plastic! I knew to do that from my own kitchen mishaps but if I'd only known sooner I might have saved a couple food savers! 😂
You are a delightful person, Mary, and each of your videos is so helpful and informative. Your videos have helped keep me steady during some trying times. I have learned so much! Thank you, as always.
Just remember acidic foods such as tomatoes can't be stored as long as other canned foods so be sure to rotate and use them. Pop top cans have a shorter shelf life also. Be sure to store them upright, not on rolling shelves.
If you are going to open the maple syrup you can also freeze it to keep it longer if you are not going to use it right away. For the apple cider vinegar, I made some from my kid's apple juice that started to ferment and I threw in some of my apple scraps and it came out awesome.
I so agree about the spices. I've used up all of my oldest spices of 15 years!!! I used them in pickling. They were absolutely fine & still super fragrant, perhaps the vinegar helped with that? Wow, that's an amazing price on the organic rice & beans. You can't even touch that on Amazon or Walmart for that price.
Mary, thank you for always sharing & educating us. Your Costco looks far superior to ours up north. I'm so thankful we started prepping a couple of years ago. I have 4 small boys who go through so much food, with inflation being so high it has helped us, now trying to restock things. Also, that syrup used to be $9.99- just goes to show how much things have hiked. Makes me sick. Thank you again💜
@@Pmwalls46 I tried looking some of her stuff up on my Costco app and was unable to find some of the things? So I am not sure if it's based on location in the states or what? So strange.
Mary, I still work and am quickly losing my savings because my paycheck and my husband's social security is not enough, especially with $8.00 a gallon for heating oil for where we live (on an island off the coast of Maine). Thankfully we have a woodstove as back up. Food prices are so high and no matter how much I cut back on food I am still spending over budget. Just this week I created a new budget plan for groceries and am hoping to reign in the cost. I do cook and bake from scratch most of the time so that helps. We try hard to not waste food. More tough times ahead, for sure.
IMPORTANT PRICE UPDATE - The Rubbermaid Brilliance goes on sale for $23.99 from 10/31/22 - 11/13/22. Check the Costco Holidays Savings Book! Corn and Green beans are also on sale in the book, $2.50 off. Love the dog hair outfits myself!
@@MarysNest You're welcome! I love my dogs. They are part of my family and of course, I prep for them as well! Perhaps, you could do a video on preparing for pets. New pet owners may not consider this!
Oh Mary I’ve always loved your channel and you are such a blessing but when you talked about your sweet pup and your dog hair I knew we were kindred spirits! My choc Lab leaves little choc kisses all over ! I sweep and vacuum daily and it’s so worth it! Good bless you and your work. Kudos to your camera man as well!!
Thanks Mary for this. I make my own strawberry jam but this year our farmer’s market had strawberries too expensive. So I decided to make a few peach jam jars. We found peaches for a good price. Here in Canada everything has gone up in price. Our gas bills has tripled since last year. So everyone should try to make most things from scratch.
Hi Janice, Oh my goodness!! Tripled in price!! I am so sorry to hear that!! But yes, prices have gone up here too. It's just terrible. You are so right - we have to make as much as we can from scratch! Love, Mary
Wonderful advice, Mary. You and my wife think a lot alike. She just mad a trip to our local BJ's Wholesale (very similar to Costco/Sam's Club) and bought many of the items you recommended. The prices have definitely gone up on some favorites but we are blessed to offset costs with our garden and chickens. Hope you all have a blessed weekend..
The Pinto Beans are across from Costco here at Sam's Club. Yes, I love that brand of Coffee (Ruta Maya) I also like my local Boyer's Coffee and have always bought local honey since Girl Scouts. I love love love these videos and you make some of the best ones with clear easy to follow content. I just want to say thank you for taking the time to do all of these videos.
Thanks as always Mary...I am paying $18 for six cans of chicken at Sam's. It was $9.99 a year or so ago. update: was in Sam's today...canned chicken back down to $15.98 for now.
That price jump last fall to $14.98 got my attention. This summer I started pressure cooking chicken. The breast meat has gone up so much that now I’m doing whole chickens.
On the west coast we have a store named Winco and you can get many of your pepper pantry staples (flour, beans, etc) in their bulk section in 20lb bags.
I’m not sure when you made this video but I’ve been unable to get the organic flour at my Costco in Keller, Texas. I was told that they would not be restocking it. 😭😭😭
Hi Brenda, I filmed this video yesterday morning but I suspect that every Costco will be slightly different. I have found that to be true right here in Austin at different Costco locations. Love, Mary
I've been able to find the arrowhead organic AP flour at my Walmart for around $6.50 for 5lbs..my Costco has also been out of organic flour for months and months.
I don’t have any big box stores here. I refuse to buy from Amazon or Walmart. We don’t even have a Walmart here and TG. I WISH EVERYONE would stop buying from companies that are monopolies. Great video, though. ❤️
I understand completely. I do my best to support local farms, dairies, and ranches but we are having such a terrible drought right now that local foods are in short supply. Even my own garden this summer was basically non-existent so I have to rely on my grocery store and the occasional trip to the big box stores. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest - my garden was also crap this year. It was the soil. I’m composting like a mad woman this year and winter to have enough good soil and I’m not buying any next spring. Back to the basics and good ole days of self reliance. ❤️
Reconsider the convenience of home delivery with Amazon. I find that gas savings and time savings are important to me as I have limited mobility. Besides, if I don't use Amazon I'm shopping at Kroger or publix, both large chain groups.
Sardines-nope. No desire to eat minnows. 😂 I’ll just stick with Spam. Love their diced tomatoes, but Wal mart and Aldi prices can beat a lot of those Costco prices. I’m doing old time shopping-get weekly ads, make a list of the best deals and make the rounds buying the limit. Stick to the list and don’t impulse buy and you’ll stock up and save.
Hi Mary: thanks! As always you are so thorough with your explanations. My hubs, who works for a food distributor here in FL just told me that the price for the Jasmine rice is not bad at all. He sells the 40# bags to the stores for $55.00. Their rice is first quality, but Costco is known for selling good quality, no crappy stuff. So, I still understand your sticker shock with the Jasmin rice but it’s not bad.
This is why I really like you, so practical and doesn’t judge if we can’t afford or use organic. I don’t keep a ton of canned goods but like you….I do keep some. We live quite remotely and when we do go to town, we don’t have the selection of organic that the bigger Costcos have. But I try to do the best I can with what I can get.Thank you, great video. 🇨🇦💕😂
Mary, best by dates were created for inventory turn purposes. The public gradually came to see them as expiration dates. Most of these foods will last for years beyond the best by date. Please have people open, smell and taste products that are a year or more past best by date. I regularly eat canned food that is three or four years out.
Mary, you are such a delight. I’ve enjoyed your channel for awhile now. Your soothing, friendly, kind voice is so calming. I listen to you in the mornings while I get ready for the day. I’ve also progressed in my traditional foods journey. Thank you for the time you put into making your videos! 😊
Hi Pamela, Thank you so much. I just adore him!! I saw his picture on the internet with a sign over his head that said "Must Go NOW!!" I saw that he was in Ft. Worth. I live outside of Austin - about 4 hours south. I called the rancher and said, I'll take him!! I'm on my way!! I told my sweet husband, get in the car - we're driving to Ft. Worth. He is so good about going along with my crazy antics!! 4 hours later, this sweet boy was sitting in my lap for the drive back to Austin!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!! And of course I love my husband so much too for going along with my many spur of the moment adventures!! Love, Mary
This was helpful, however, I can get similar prices on Aldi brands AND I don't have to buy a huge container. I am a single person and these amounts would go bad before I had used all of it. Thank you anyway. This was interesting to see!
Hi Jean, a single senior here. I organize with the seniors in my building to find our simular needs. When one of our family members go to Sam's or Costco they pick thinks up for our group. We split the bulk and costs.
Life is impossible without the love of a Labrador (or two)…. LOL. I keep a roller sticky brush in my purse!! Thanks for such a great video … love your channel
@@melissaharrison1256 I have. My husband uses them for a dip that he likes. He says they're fine, but he still prefers the Rotel. I think if he didn't see the can. He probably wouldn't notice a difference. He normally likes the hot variety, which I've yet to find in the great value brand. But they're also hard to find in the Rotel as well.
Omigoodness Mary! I just got a new dog last week. His name is Charlie. And he is a yellow/white yellow lab/German Shepherd mix. He is huge, and a huge love sponge...wanting to be a lap dog LOL! Your dog so reminds me of him. 💖 The fur is ridiculous, but I will go with your saying that every outfit goes better with dog hair LOL!

I love this "come shop with me" videos. It is almost like you need another team at your local supermarket to compare prices and availability too! Also, do you know how long drinking water can be kept in, say a 2ltr pepsi max plastic bottle for, where i is still safe to drink? Thank you!
So happy you enjoyed this!! It was something different for me!! That is a good question. I am not 100% sure. I hope someone else will chime in. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest Well you carried it off well in a busy place place so props to you! 👏 Also interesting to see how much things are in the US compared to the UK in the rising pricing of stuff. It is really unsettling and worrying about the mess here with our current political situation. The lack of control and organisation is really affecting people's health here. They either need to get things sorted properly here quickly or give the people the choice before it is too late for the rest of us still here. Our population levels only seem to be sustained by the people that are coming here, living rent free in hotels. Not sure how the homeless, will cope this winter as they used to put these people up in the hotels over the cold months.
Mary, I'm 18 seconds into the video and I'm thrown off. You're not in your lovely kitchen. Where is your apron? I now understand my 9 year-old son when he doesn't recognise people outside of their usual space, for example: seeing his teacher in a local shop. On a serious note, you are amazing! You make such a difference on YT and I'm SO grateful for your existence. When the poop hits the fan I always feel better knowing you're making such useful and kind videos. You are one of three people who cheer me up (the other 2 being Jeremy Clarkson and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall from River Cottage (you MUST look up Hugh!)). Thanks, Mary. Much love to you and your family from us in the UK
Avacado oil is cheaper to make than it is to buy. It takes 24 to 26 avacados, to make a gallon + of a avacado oil. Choose the large avacados when they are .78c each at Walmart. Let them nicely ripen, but not super ripe. Thuroughly mash and spread out very thinly. When the paste turns gray, s rape together, stir thoroughly, spread again. Repeat this process until all of the avacado paste has turned very dark gray to black, evenly, throughout. Scoop it all together, then scoop, in batches, into a few layers of cheese cloth. Pull the cloth up around the paste, twist until its tightly wrapped. Then squeaze and continue twisting, over a large bowl or receptacle. The oil will come out, and a lot of it. Keep doing this until you get no more liquid out. Then, filter the liquid, (oil) through clean, layered cheese cloth, until clean. That's it. You have beautiful avacado oil. This does take most of a day, because of the "pulling" process. (Speading mixing respreading until it's very dark.) This is a cold press process.
Hi Denise, I have a number of videos where I talk about how I prep for my dog both for when we have to stay in place as well as if we have to bug out in the event of an evacuation. I'm away from my computer right now, but if you use the search option on my YT homepage, you can find my other prepper pantry videos. Love, Mary
I need to shop at your Costco. Those items aren't on sale here, if we even have them. One thing we have done is buy a few of their rotisserie chickens at a time, picked them, canned the meat, made the broth and canned ... Then turned the scraps into dog food! Cheap delicious food.
I keep various stores' apps on my phone so that I can look up the prices of products while I'm shopping. Helps me to either buy something at the store I'm currently in or leave it behind.
I'm glad that I prepped with the canned Keystone beef and pork before I couldn't find them on the store shelves anymore, at two Walmarts in my area. They still have Keystone chicken, though. High quality, if you can find them.
I love shopping videos. Sounds busy there, but you did a great job coming through. Thanks for showing us around! Nice chance to see what is out there, prices, and gives me ideas for things to try. What a great deal on those Sardines. GREAT brand, and that sale price is fantastic. That price on chicken is not too shabby. My Sams Club had shot up to $18/19 for similar amount, and is now back down to $15.99 ($2.66 per can). I don't do home canning, so I definitely rely on store available stuff. You gave me a chuckle about dog fur. I'm not fully dressed without a layer of dog hair. I have two yellow labs (and 3 cats), so I totally understand being covered in fur. I'm totally ok with that :) Gorgeous dog by the way :)
Greetings from East Texas! Our local Wally Jr has Jasmin Rice in 10 pound bags on the endcap for 11.00. SAMS has 20 lb bags for about double (21.00). I’ve picked up 4 of the 10 pound bags … because I can lift them. I had SAMS deliver some items to the house…including a 25 pound bag of flour. I almost killed myself trying to wrangle it into the house. Lesson learned
When I made my snow tire appointment in August for November, they said "we don't know what we will have or how much they will cost" after I requested studded snows
Thank you for such an informative video. For people with sensitive tummies / lactose issues, both ghee (no lactose, because there are no milk solids) and white rice (easier to digest than brown rice) are great to stock up on.
I have yet to try any primal kitchen product that tastes good. They all taste bad imo. Although I don't like to consume soybean oil...I rarely eat mayonnaise....probably 1-2x every couple of months. It's just not worth it to make homemade because it goes bad before I can use it. So I buy duke's or Hellman's and just use it sparingly
I am with you on the primal kitchen brand. I think it must be something about the avocado oil that just doesn't agree with us. And yes, best to just use something else sparingly if you are not making the mayo homemade. Love, Mary
I noticed that the sardines are labelled "wild caught". All sardines are wild caught. You don't have to pay more for that . Regular sardines are also wild caught.
Hi Gloria, yes, you are right. For me locally, that was still an excellent price since most sardines at my grocery store are over $2 per can for the same amount. Love, Mary
I have to admit, we are eating from our prepper pantry right now. I’m Only buying sale items, produce, and dairy because where I’m at, it hasn’t gone up too bad. Whatever meat is on sale, I buy it and freeze it. Whatever staples are on sale, I buy it. Otherwise I’m using my pantry and I’m still in my budget. Haven’t raised my budget at all.
So nice to see you out of the kitchen for a change! Thanks for taking us shopping! our local grocery chain store sells those same sardines; they were on sale a little while ago 2 cans for $5! I am well stocked on them from Costco, however, a lot "run out" this December; no problem, they will be fine in 23 😀I have NEVER seen dried beans at our Costco, I always look, though I do not need any, all stocked! Stocked on local honey as well, I buy a gallon jar, used to cost $46, now IF they even have the gallon jars they are $54! I love those huge bags of baking soda!!! As for broth: Better than bullion is the way to go if you do not make your own - my kids use it and it was just $2 off on my last visit, yes, I got 5 jars. They use it and I get the empty jars, win win! Oh, the raisins are next to the beets I love!!!!
About herbs....just plant an herb garden and you will have an unlimited supply. Many are snow hearty and grow like weeds. I also have several gallons of vodka that I use for making extracts. Many of the herbs can also be used in teas and medicinal concoctions. Many herb mixes are very heavy on the salt which can be avoided by making your own.
Hi Debbie, I am so with you. I always like to have an herb garden going. And I find it quite easy to maintain. And yes, I love making extracts, etc. All wonderful ideas. Thanks for sharing. Love, Mary
I so wish I could meet you. You and I have a love for dogs and pantry, and your knowledge of foods and such is amazing! I have been prepping for about 2 years now. I also live in Texas! I watch every video I can get that you have made. Love it! Thank you for sharing you hard earned wisdoms with all of us. I am almost 70 so age doesn't ever make a difference when it comes to "survival" in these days. God bless you, sis. Your husband has found a treasure!
Hi Donna, How true! Age certainly doesn't matter when it comes to being prepared. I wish we were neighbors. We would best buddies!! And thank you for the kind words - it's me who feels I found a treasure!! Thanks for being on this traditional foods journey with me! Love, Mary
Very much appreciate the recommendations. Costco selections appear to be quite regional as well as difference in prices. Northern CA Costco prices are higher than in Austin. Love your channel!
I'm also in Northern CA. The selection in TX is also quite extensive compared to the one I shop at. I just picked up organic Cacao 24 oz $6.99, which equals about the same price, but does not say free trade.
I loved Sardines, growing up... I'm very picky now regarding " brands" because of how much things have changed . I still like them, even as a quick lunch ,with a salad, crackers, sardine filets on the side. What a lot of people don't understand is they have a lot of Omega-3s and depending on where they're caught (wild caught). some of them have more Omega-3s than even salmon. I always keep canned chicken on hand, for using in recipes, as Miss Mary mentioned. I use wild caught canned Albacore Tuna, as well. I don't have a way to garden , or I would grow my own spinach, radishes, etc. Thank you for taking us with you, Miss Mary ! 🙂😊💕
what's your opinion on buying those 5 gallon jugs of water to store in volume? I've also seen water pumps you install on top to pump out water as needed instead of needing a big dispensers unit.

I thought can vegi are not good bc of all the preservatives?
@@tan3964 Read the labels. Most have salt as a preservative, so if you don't have to watch salt intake, most are safe. I'm not sure about the salt-free varieties, I haven't bought them. I usually get frozen veg since I live alone and fresh goes bad before I can use it.
@@shadodragonette thanks Marie. Will pay more attention 😊
I’m the same age with the same worries.
My husband and I have lost a lot of our investment money that we worked so hard for. He is still working at age 70. We are always looking for bargains at the grocery store, so I very much appreciate Mary taking us through Costco to see what’s available and what she recommends.
We are 80 and facing the same struggle. Trying to figure it all out. We have decided we may become vegetarian. lol
Get a canner and buy in bulk. Start a garden. We are all in the same boat.
Be Blessed.
Great tip!!

Hi Lizbeth, Yes, it did say that on the bottle - sorry I forgot to read it. Love, Mary
If you can avoid buying canned corn and green beans, they will be $2.50 off per box, next month as part of their holiday sales
Ack! That is something about the salt!! I really like the Celtic Grey Salt. Love, Mary
Oooo. Mushy peas! Yorkshire girl here.
Love them!!
Good work
The raisins are cheaper at Costco than the grocery stores
Hi Anita, thank you for the kind words. And safe travels! Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
Hi Alison, WOW!! Thanks for sharing. Love, Mary
They used to have such great prices/sales on their canned chicken. Haven't seen that for a while.
I love the canned chicken for making chicken salad.
The canned chicken is excellent in pot pie or white chili too.
I do that, too. And when I am all done, I turn the bone into dog food, that I also can!
I have been canning meat too. Been prepping for a while. I am 65 and lost my house and 50% of my savings in 2008. I see this happening as quick as our government can get it done.
I put the leftover in my compost because the bones are very soft. I save the fat from the broth and mix it into my dogs kibble. He loves it.
@@susanwickman3603 - I’m in my 50’s. In Texas on 10 acres. If you need a place to live, let me know! I’m alone, but not lonely. ❤️ I’m a female. I agree with you.

Blessings Mary from sunny Chicago at 78 degrees. I organize a shopping list for the seniors in my building to help us stock and save. When someone's family takes them to Sam's or Costco, they have our list. We share in the stock and the cost to save space and money.
Hi Madeline, That is such a great idea. And what a blessing you are to the seniors in your building! Love and God Bless, Mary
What a wonderful idea!
Another thing ive been thinking about is that we need to start collecting bake ware that has the oven proof matching lids so we aren't a slave to using foil.
Roaster pans with lids.
Cassarole dishes with matching glass or stone lids etc etc....😉
Great tip!!
Check your local thrift store first. They always seem to have a lot of that type bakeware :)
Also look for cast iron or cast club aluminum. These can be used to cook on an outside grill or fire if you need to.
Need dishes for open fire cooking too
you can wash and reuse foil several time as long as it isn't folded too much but I agree with your point ..
Yep. Me., 😍
How would you know if they were in there? Is it obvious?
@@rachf9695 oh you’d know! Yeah.
this helped me...I never really knew flour could go bad...I tend to throw things out a lot sooner than is necessary, after eating a lot of expired food growing up, but with food prices and scarcity that has to stop. If I have flour in the freezer for 6 months it will not impart a freezer taste to my food?
I dry canned flour. I got organics dry canned.

That's how I've been doing mine too.
Great idea
Thank YOU so much for being here!! Glad we are on this journey together. Love, Mary
Great tips!!
Just made 4 - 1/2 gallons of apple vinegar from scraps because of Mary’s video! THANK YOU, Mary
I will never need vinegar again thanks to Mary and Heidi!!
@@bonnie5601 me too! Not 4 1/2 gallons but plenty, 😉. Love not wasting anything!
I know what you mean!
I agree, my northern costco is lacking in many of the areas you mentioned.
@@tgardenchicken1780 mine, too
😔
Yes! Our Costco in Lincoln, Nebraska has less than half of the great things Mary is showing at her Costco. Wow! Such a shame for us. :(
@@Pmwalls46 I tried looking some of her stuff up on my Costco app and was unable to find some of the things?

@@MarysNest You're welcome! I love my dogs. They are part of my family and of course, I prep for them as well! Perhaps, you could do a video on preparing for pets. New pet owners may not consider this!

Love, Mary
And the winter gets very cold. Gas is so high.
Soon we have a Costco in Sweden…
Wonderful!
I have a white dog. I wear him everywhere. I wouldn't give him up for anything. Good video Mary.
Hi Rob, I think she and I would have a good time shopping together! You are so blessed with your amazing garden and the chickens!! Love to all, Mary
Good to know!
Thanks as always Mary...I am paying $18 for six cans of chicken at Sam's. It was $9.99 a year or so ago.
update: was in Sam's today...canned chicken back down to $15.98 for now.
I know what you mean. I used to pay the same. Prices are really getting high. I hope things turn around soon. Love, Mary
Walmart's iis still $9.98
That price jump last fall to $14.98 got my attention. This summer I started pressure cooking chicken. The breast meat has gone up so much that now I’m doing whole chickens.
Perfect. I have my pantry stocked. I can always stock up some more ❤
Estate sales always have lots of kitchen item for very low prices.
Definitely! :-)

You're the best!
Great info!! Thanks for sharing!!
Mary, you are just a good soul ❤ thank you for all your wonderful guidance on so many things!

Check with manufacturer on the water. They will tell shelf life
Mary, I'm 18 seconds into the video and I'm thrown off.
Thank you SO much for the kind words!! And I will definitely look up both channels!! Thank you!! Love, Mary
I love you Mary!!! Dog hair and all!!! Thank you for all your help keeping us informed and keeping a great kitchen!!!
Oh my goodness!! Thank you SO much for the kind words!! Love you too! Love, Mary
One thing peppers always forget to share is what the prep for their pets...
Hi Jennifer, Sorry to hear the items weren't on sale but that is wonderful to hear about the chickens! Love, Mary
Pyrex measuring cups, set of 3, $24.99 on Amazon! Those Costco prices are good at $14.99 for the same product.
I keep various stores' apps on my phone so that I can look up the prices of products while I'm shopping. Helps me to either buy something at the store I'm currently in or leave it behind.
So do I. It takes a little more time, but saving money is more important than ever.
I do it all the time.
Awesome Mary! Please take us shopping more often!
I'm glad that I prepped with the canned Keystone beef and pork before I couldn't find them on the store shelves anymore, at two Walmarts in my area. They still have Keystone chicken, though. High quality, if you can find them.
Ditto! I thought they were expensive a couple of years ago but bought them one at a time for quite awhile. Thank goodness.
Great video. I envy you the selections your costco has. Mine here up north is much less varied.
Oh no!
I buy Ghee & all oils @ ALDI'S, less expensive
Greetings from East Texas! Our local Wally Jr has Jasmin Rice in 10 pound bags on the endcap for 11.00. SAMS has 20 lb bags for about double (21.00). I’ve picked up 4 of the 10 pound bags … because I can lift them. I had SAMS deliver some items to the house…including a 25 pound bag of flour. I almost killed myself trying to wrangle it into the house. Lesson learned
Oh my goodness!!
I just got my 25# bag of flour at Walmart. It was definitely less expensive than at Sam's, surprisingly enough!
I just started following you, and love your tips and tricks thanks so much
When I made my snow tire appointment in August for November, they said "we don't know what we will have or how much they will cost" after I requested studded snows
Does everyone know that corn is a type of grass? Just like wheat, barley, milo, sorghum etc.....
Tomato harvests in the US have been damaged by drought in CA and hurricane in Florida. Grab your tomato products now.👍😁
Great tip!
Thank you for sharing that. I'm in Wisconsin so I had no idea. I will stock up now.
I've been making my own Ghee and it's delicious. I used the oven melt process instead of the stove top- video on Doug and Stacy's.
Love, Mary
Looks like Texas! I'll be there next month.
Yay!! Yes, Texas indeed!!
Hi Mary, the Season sardines are the best I ever tasted------love them!! We love Kirkland brand and love Costco!!
So informative. I've always loved canned Sardines, and canned fish steaks in hot sauce. I make Salmon patties with canned Salmon.
That was great and your husband did a great job of filming. What a good team!
Yahoo, going shopping with you Mary, my sweet friend.
🤗
About herbs....just plant an herb garden and you will have an unlimited supply. Many are snow hearty and grow like weeds. I also have several gallons of vodka that I use for making extracts. Many of the herbs can also be used in teas and medicinal concoctions. Many herb mixes are very heavy on the salt which can be avoided by making your own.
Hi Debbie, I am so with you. I always like to have an herb garden going. And I find it quite easy to maintain. And yes, I love making extracts, etc. All wonderful ideas. Thanks for sharing. Love, Mary
Great video Mary! I made your "no knead sandwich bread" again today, that recipe is a winner!! So easy and soooo good! 🍞
You can freeze flour as welll I freeze my extra flour bags it is awesome
Love, Mary
What a nice field trip! I do love Costco!
Us too!
In Canada I bought the 6 can chicken on Amazon for 46.00 yes you read that right.
Very much appreciate the recommendations. Costco selections appear to be quite regional as well as difference in prices. Northern CA Costco prices are higher than in Austin. Love your channel!
Hi Ellen, Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that your prices are higher!! But thank you SO much for the kind words!! Love, Mary
Hi Mary, I think they are a great idea and I keep some on hand. Love the pump idea! Love, Mary
Someone in the comment section mentioned canning rotisserie chicken. Can you please show us how? Thank you.
