Hi Mary, I'm so very sorry people have been unkind to you. You're one of the sweetest people I've ever seen in my life, not to mention highly intelligent and extremely caring. You put your heart and soul into your channel and have provided wonderful education to help all families that are willing to learn. I truly think the worst in people is coming out and I see that in every channel I follow. Ugly attitudes are everywhere. Honestly, America is losing it's way. We use to be a loving and caring country, but we are losing our kindness a little more every day. Please just turn away from anyone treating you badly - just block them. I know that will be hard for you to do, but it is necessary so they don't hurt you. Please always know you are loved and appreciated! There are some good people left and we love to learn from you. God Bless You and Your Sweet Family!
Very well said,Mary. I’ve enjoyed your site for over a year and have learned a great deal from you. I’ve always enjoyed cooking and bread baking. You always show grace in all your videos…..❤️
Mary, thank you for putting this into prospective for me. I too was perplexed at 1st when I saw that post. On another note. My family and I will be traveling across country (and back) in July. I'm wondering if you have any tips for us to be able to still eat well during travel.
The book is still available on Amazon (USA) if people are unable to find it locally. It has a different cover than the one you showed but it's the same book.
"Better is a dish of vegetables where there is love Than a fattened bull where there is hatred." Proverbs 15:17 Thank you Mary for helping ALL of us with love and grace!
I’m glad you’re talking about this. In my area a pasture raised chicken is 30 dollars. That’s not reasonable for some households. They have bellies to feed. Not everyone makes that kind of money. I’m interested in helping people do what they can with what they have. I’m not interested in making people feel any sort of way for choosing to buy 6 chickens instead of one. Thanks for encouraging compassion Mary. It’s needed today ❤️
I’ve been managing a household for more than 44 years, including during recessions and hard economic times. There’s no shame in buying groceries you can afford with the entire household budget in mind. It’s our moral duty as homemakers (including those with payroll jobs) to be prudent stewards of our family’s money. Mary, please ignore the elitist comments from folks that can’t understand why the rest of us APPRECIATE getting a heads up about a good price on Walmart chicken. Ten dollars of Walmart chicken (ten pounds at the price point you originally told us about) can make six or eight wholesome dinners for my family of three adults. Those saying we should only eat pasture raised organic meats is the moral equivalent of “let them eat cake” in todays inflationary economy.
Beautifully said Mitz…yes. What’s going to also go by the wayside is all these luxury diets people put themselves on. I’m not talking about a real medical reason, but these so called diets people put themselves on just shows how much food we used to be able to buy and pick and choose. Some people today are grateful for that chicken Mary purchased.
@@DawnieRotten They aren’t mutually exclusive, as Mary demonstrates so well for us. If you’d like some help finding that balance, post your questions. As Mary said, she and many of her followers have experience we can share. 🌸
You’re helping so many people, Mary. You didn’t have to respond to those who gave you negative feedback with grace, but you have. God bless you and thanks for helping us during these crazy times!
Mary please ignore those people whose reality is not that of a large proportion of our population. You shouldn't be critcized for realizing that fact. As they say, walk in another's shoes.
I think that Mary did the right thing.🥰 Some of those being negative may really need to be put in their place and Mary's sweet response should have a good humbling effect on them. Some may have felt some pressure to be perfect while struggling themselves and Mary just gave them permission to not stress about the inability to do so. And some just really don't understand and may now be able to find that grace for others themselves. I really hope her message reaches the people who need to hear it.😊 Edited to add: Some people (like me) also need to learn to handle people in the beautiful Christian manner that Mary does. I think I need to go pray about that now.🤔🙏🏻
@@diannamc367 I fall short on humility and need to kneel and pray alongside you! Mary’s gentle explanation is a good example of true Christian charity.
I love all of these things the organic free range etc..but there are so many families can’t even buy a 94 cent chicken especially if there are several children. You my dear girl are so correct! Grace is realizing how blessed we are to have food and sharing with those that do not have. Keep sharing my friend! Love your word. Elizabeth❤️🙏🏻
Great video Mary. Unfortunately some people are out of touch with the reality that more people are having to compromise quality of food to pay their bills. The recession, prices of groceries, goods, gas, medicine, and basically everything has risen dramatically. You are absolutely right, we must extend grace to others and it's sad that you had to dedicate an entire video to explain basic kindness, grace, and love towards others. May I suggest those that do not understand that they go volunteer at a local soup kitchen and/or spend time with the average person, not just donate monetarily, but actually invest their time and I'm positive they'll gain a better understanding of those in poverty and those that are just trying to survive day-to-day in these difficult times.
Hi Sofia, How true! I see so many folks just trying to survive day-to-day during these difficult times. We really need to help others as much as we can and always treat everyone with love. Love, Mary
100 percent Mary! A community that will be judgmental about what people must eat to survive could unintentionally become lacking empathy or end up controlling. I understand that turning opinions into arbitrary virtue is the style of our age, but true virtue does not need to be a stick with which to whack others. lol Thank you, Mary for your continued graciousness.
It upsets me to a degree that I simply don’t have the words to adequately convey when I see something like this! Mary is an absolute treasure trove of useful, helpful, prudent and creative information that she is clearly so happy to share among total strangers who may need or may simply just want to learn! For anyone to negatively criticize Mary’s benevolence is truly beyond the pale! For those who are so incredibly fortunate that their household budgets aren’t seriously impacted by the current economic crisis that is severely affecting *the majority* of us in America, *PLEASE* check yourself if ever you feel compelled to comment negatively on any of Mary’s presentations that include money saving ideas and information; try to remind yourself that not everyone, in fact, not even a large population of Americans, can financially afford to buy grass fed beef, free range chickens, organic produce and pantry staples from Whole Foods at full price. If your personal financial situation is such that you can easily afford a food bill that may equate to a full month of rent for someone else, that’s great for you. But please, take a moment to appreciate your good fortune, to remind yourself that not everyone has the same prosperity, admonish yourself to never take your advantages for granted, consider that the unpredictability of life may one day bestow hardships upon you, and reflect upon how your negative comments could be perceived as hurtful or shaming by someone whose life journey hasn’t presented for them the opportunities or privileges that you enjoy. Thank you, so much, Mary, for your kindness, your assistance, your wealth of knowledge, and your endless generosity in sharing it all with us! You’re so appreciated! You’re a true gift in sunny times, but you are an absolutely priceless treasure on some of our bleaker days! Thank you for your consistent grace, your unfailing warmth, and your gentle compassion. You’re a better person than most Americans, including myself, these days, and you’re a reminder to us all that we can and should strive to be better humans! ❤️
Thank you for writing this! I would also add: If you (the reader) are that comfortable with your financial situation, PLEASE share the wealth and make donations to pantries/churches/directly to mutual aid organizations, so that others may have a chance. Blessings to anyone reading this. You are not alone in your struggle.
Thank you for this. It is really hard to say you are a home cook that tries to make everything homemade for a family of 5. The comments are really harsh. I live in Canada and right now the cheapest chickens I can find (when there is a sale) is 2.49/lb. That's the lowest grade whole chicken. I use everything on that chicken, including the carcass. We absolutely cannot afford organic/grass fed right now. Those are at a minimum 6.99/lb. I think this is why I like your videos. You speak with grace and you do not chastise those of us that literally cannot afford the top quality foods. Whole foods is more important to me, then organic, etc. I appreciate what you do here. Thank you again.
Mary, if I could give you 5 stars and a 100% for this episode I would. Your words are so important and are given from a loving place. I've always admired your good sense and practicality when it comes to homemade foods. I feel like it's elitism to dictate to people what food they should and should not eat. For many, as you say, it really is a choice between paying bills and buying certain food. Thank you for being a voice for good sense and kindness.
Thank you for all you do and share. You are a true blessing. 🙏🏻💕 I get $57 a month food stamps. I am 71. Yes I prefer organic, but we can’t all have that right now. Love your videos.
Mary, I don't buy beef roasts very much as they are so expensive here. Last night a friend phoned me in a panic as someone had left the door open on her freezer and some of her meat (they buy in bulk - farm raised beef & pigs) had thawed. She offered me two beef roasts to cook and keep. She was so happy that it wasn't going to go to waste and wow were we ever happy. That's loving kind and economical.
I have been watching you for awhile and have learned a lot. This, by far, is your best video because you spoke from your heart and you are showing grace. I am a social worker and there are so many people who don't live in a place where they are able to buy much that is healthy at all. Your channel will help those people as well. We all can take baby steps to try to get to where we want to go. And we all have different resources. Thanks for your understanding and encouragement. I will continue to pray for you and your family, the economy and the families of America.
Thank you for this video. People can be so unkind and there's no need of it. Your videos have really helped me make our grocery dollar stretch and added variety to our kitchen. Blessed be.
Mary, your spirit is so gentle and kind in this video. You're absolutely right. While we purchase as much organic healthy food as we can, there are times where in order to feed my family well, I have to make alot of choices and use less than ideal ingredients. But I'm thankful for the option to ha e a choice to buy chicken and feed my family! Thank you for your beautiful attitude. ❤️
When we love our neighbor as ourselves…we are sharing Gods love. You addressed the uncharitable views with compassion. People in our world today pass judgement & outrage over so many issues. Not everyone understands charity, but they can still learn. God loves them too! Thank you, Mary, for being a light and discussing this issue with charity. You are a teacher in many ways.
I really appreciate your willingness to meet us wherever we are in our journey to a traditional kitchen. Some of us can't purchase the organic groceries at this time, and your encouragement to just do what you can is great! Thank you for your channel, and for helping all of us.
Thank you, Mary! I'm only 5 minutes into this video and I agree. I'm a long time watcher, first time commenter. IF you can afford farm raised/pasture raised/ organic anything (animal products or produce) go for it. But the bottom line is, even suboptimal food is better than relying on processed food or not eating that food at all. And especially during these times, we really need to stay within our means.
I’m sending a SPECIAL THANK YOU TO MY MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER who have since passed, for giving me so many wonderful lessons in the kitchen and garden. A special thanks to my Mother, who ran a stern ship. And made everyone of us, boys and girls, learn how to cook, bake, garden, can, preserve, ferment and all the hundreds of other lessons for life.
Oh my gosh I couldn't believe you have received those comments.. why can't people realize not everyone can afford the perfect foods.. but you are saying here is where you Start and bend to what you can do!! Sheesh You are amazing Mary.. thanks for showing grace and being such an inspiration to others
I appreciate Everything you share with us ❤❤ Some people are fortunate enough to be able to purchase "perfect" food, or even have a few chickens of their own running around laying eggs, but most people are simply not able to do that, & are reduced to eating 1 "meal" a day, & are so thankful to have that 😊❤❤ Be kind and share with one another if you can, because we're all struggling together at the moment ❤❤
Thank you Mary. This is SO true! When I started on my food journey-- I started with store bought chickens. I was just thinking the other day how far I had come-- when I got married I didn't even know how to cook chicken breasts. I was afraid to touch them! We are all doing the best we can and often we have to make changes in baby steps. We haven't eaten out in over two years now. I am amazed at how much money we have saved. We do need to show more grace and encourage others even if they are at a different place right now. I appreciate your message Mary. You are a beautiful example of grace and kindness. :)
I gracefully cook and serve the $5 roasting hens whenever I can find them. These are trying times. I went to fill up my suv which wasn't even completely empty and it cost me $71 which prevents me from buying the $25 chicken. You are the greatest, Mary, and thank you so much for everything that you continue to share with us.
Thank you, Mary. May God bless you and your family as you have blessed me and my family with your channel. I started my journey before the pandemic with the simple intention of making sure my family had less preservatives and processed foods in their diets. I found your channel, and today, besides broadening my home cooking skills for my family, I make my own spices and spice mixtures, broth, tallow, and much much more. My next venture is pressure canning, but I cannot yet afford the equipment necessary and that’s okay, I’ll get there. You see, I am a single mother of 3 and caregiver for my elderly father who can no longer take care of himself. To say money is tight is an understatement. Your channel has always made me feel good that every little change I make for my family in the kitchen is enough. If I cannot afford organic vegetables, it’s okay. If I cannot afford organic meats, it’s okay. If I cannot afford the more expensive healthier grains, it’s okay. You get the idea. You always say that any step made towards a traditional kitchen is enough and do not overwhelm yourself. Do the best you can with what you have and with what’s in your budget. You make me feel good about myself knowing I am doing everything I can to make a healthier home for my family. Thank you, Mary!!
This, exactly. Anyone being critical and negative doesn't understand what Mary's teaching, IMHO. I'm so grateful for everything I've learned and am learning.
Thank you so much Mary. My husband and I live on SS. Every penny that we receive goes to bills and living. I do cook at home every day and grocery shopping is done by what is on sale. I cannot always buy organic but I do look for the best quality I can afford. I have had people tell me that we should be eating better but we're eating the best that we can afford. And yes, I do have a sourdough starter going and make my own bone broth. I do try to keep traditional. So that thank you for all your information.
You worded everything in this video so beautifully! I constantly thank my Heavenly Father for the blessings he’s provided for our family. However, With the prices we’re seeing now (and it’s likely we haven’t seen anything yet) it’s shocking that people still feel they can attack others for not having luxuries they may have. Even those that have been able to afford all of this are feeling the pinch
Hi Mary, please do not take any notice of judgemental people. I am not a wealthy person and have to do what I can to get by. If organic produce is on sale, I buy it. Otherwise it is whatever I can afford. I started a vegetable and herb garden to help with putting food on the table and despite having very little, when I know someone else is struggling like myself, I make small food parcels and leave it on their doorstep at night. This way there is no embarrassment on either side. People should remember that " there but for the grace of God go I " . Thanks to you, I now make my own bread, pickles, cream cheese etc. More than ever, we all need to help each other. Keep up the great work Mary. X
I love your channel! I'm sorry you had to explain your previous post to someone. 😟 You have stated time and time again - you do NOT have to buy organic, speciality foods, etc...to eat healthy. I literally have purchased chicken backs, pork hocks and chicken feet - just to have the nutrients. People - please think before you jump all over our beloved Mary! There are THOUSANDS of ways to feed on a budget. She's trying to simply give you an idea so you can create and make a recipe your own. Love you Mary! You're amazing! Xoxo
Mary, I have never taken your teachings as “do it this way or else”. You are spot on with your video today. All of us should learn and enjoy your tutorials, but have enough brains in our heads to “tailor” your instruction to the way each one of us has to live. I am not in dire straits economically, but I’m not looking to throw money away either. If individuals have come at you harshly, then apparently it simply shows how narrow minded they are.
My goodness this is so sad you've had to explain this Mary. I completely salute you for being realistic and helping people on budgets! It's heartbreaking we can't buy the organic, best types foods we all know are so good for us, and want, but simply can't afford. Here in the UK the news is full of people having to decide between buying food or using electricity. Another headline about someone who can't remember the last time they had a hot meal. Goodness knows what winter will bring. And we live in some of the richest countries in the world! I'm so grateful for your channel, wisdom and knowledge and hopefully those who posted unkind and thoughtless comments have had a chance to reflect on the realities of real life. Blessings to you and your family x
I am so grateful for you, Mary. You are a bright light, here! I love to cook and have spent most of my life in the kitchen as I raised children and now help to feed grandchildren. I appreciate what I have learned regarding traditional foods, and do cook from scratch, preserve food, and use every scrap. We have lived a beautiful and privileged life, with many good memories around the table, the center of our home. However, we have never been in a financial position to buy expensive food. We live on one income and often cook for many hungry eaters. There is no way on earth I could afford to buy an organic chicken. I have tried to find or work out a way. It is simply not available to us. I love to read and learn about the ideal, but must live with 'economy and grace' and gratitude in my place and time. We are privileged to eat as well as we do! Thank you for meeting people where they are. It makes the world a better, gentler place.
Well said Mary.💞 This was the reason I left church at age 13. I saw and heard things from people being judgemental and from senior church members who should have shown more grace to others less fortunate or being newer to the Christian Faith . It was sad that I didn't return until age 43 when my mum died, although I never lost my faith in The Lord, I did loose my faith in Mankind. We are all here through His Grace, we are all here to serve and help each other, just as He did. Your Traditional Foods cooking is wonderful. Personally I make all your dairy products and it saves me a lot of money. I am making broths next so I cut back on salty stock cubes, I planted a sizeable garden for my property size. Can I do more, YES! Can I invest more, YES but I'm not comfortable in all my abilities so I need to learn more. This is the grace I show myself. Im very happy to be a community member because I feel like you care about us all equally and you show and share this in every video you put out. God Bless & Take care to you and all the the Family, Mary from Paula in the UK 🇬🇧 ❤.
Thank you for this video.. the world needs lots of grace. People need to follow the old sayings “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” "If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all" Peace to you and your family
Thank you for being here💞🙏 My daughter is a single mom of 3 teen/preteen boys, to get to her job the gas prices are hurting everybody's budget, we are all in different spots. You are a beautiful, graceful person to where everyone is in their life. Keep cooking and being Graceful to all. 💞🙏🤗
Mary, I love to learn from you and I love that you talking about showing grace to others. We’d all love to have money for everything from the farm directly, but realistically I know I can’t. I get my eggs from a farmer and chicken and beef when I can, but it’s challenging. Milk from farmers to get 1 gallon where I live is $17 a gallon. In my house with boys I can’t afford that. Thank you for speaking kindly for everyone’s budgets who are doing the best they can.
Mary, thank you for being so loving to this community ❤ I am dairyfree and glutenfree, ( not my choice) but I substitute dairy for coconut cream and make my own bread with coconut flour and almond flour. I make most food from scratch these days. I came from using edit: a can of cream of soup of this or that, to all the above mentioned. I get the best ideas for my dinners here 🙂Thank you for your eloquence in speech, and God Bless.
I hit the “Like” button but I wished they had a “loved” button! People really need to get real and wake up. You’re sweeter than I would be and said it all with Grace. 💜🙏🏻💜🙏🏻🇺🇸
Me too! You are so right! Unfortunately it’s the case with so many people. But her message is to the point. But so many people don’t know how to be wiser about many aspects in life… they did not have to. But I like her message of meeting people where they are at… it’s a life journey, we are all at different stage. But in our daily life, I find the « grace part » went out the window… many reasons, but I guess that any little thing help. Like when my husband and I go on our daily walks, we say hi to everyone, hoping to put a smile on their face, even for a brief moment. Some people don’t care because they are like that, but I know that many people are stressed and have a hard time making ends meet. Compassion goes a long way… you never know the effect it can have on others. Me too, I would certainly have given many ❤️ to Mary, it’s so nice that she takes all that time to share her knowledge with us, I learned a lot.
Someone taught me to think of the concept "Good....better....best" The $5 chicken is still a "good" option because you are cooking it yourself, adding your own spices, and still have bones to make broth!
Hi Mary. I love your videos and you are super sweet lady. I hope you do not allow the negative comments to hurt you and please focus on the positive comments. So many of us out here love you I love your videos
Thank you Mary for your work and thoughtful message. A .94/lb whole chicken is still better than some drive they nuggets. Let us all strive to have the best health we can given our current economy. ❤️
We all need to be good stewards of what God has given us. My husband and I choose to be frugal so that we can help those in need. Right now there are so many struggling to feed their family. I remember worrying about feeding our 3 small children when my husband was out of work for an entire year during the 1980's recession. I had to learn frugality really quick and I still am frugal today. I ordered the book "An Everlasting Meal" and can't wait to read it. Thank you for reminding us to be kind to others. You just never know what they are going through.
I hope this will be a series. I am very excited to have help stretching the tight grocery budget. Especially trying to also stock a 1-2 yr pantry. The dollars need to go as far as absolutely possible. So I am very grateful for this. Thank you
Hi Mary! Can't wait to get caught up on your videos. My sweet little mom lost her hard fought battle with cancer just over a month ago and we would always watch you together since she lived with me, so it's bittersweet to watch. Love and Got bless, Mindy❤
Hi Mary, I just have to say that in my opinion YOU are the embodiment of kindness and graciousness! I am a senior now and only discovered your channel about a year ago. One would think that a person as senior as I am would know a lot more than I do about cooking from scratch, fermenting etc but I have learned SO MUCH from your videos and enjoyed the process of that learning. PLEASE keep doing what you do and when we need calling out go for it. Where I massively fall down in the kitchen is food waste. I need to be more vigilant but at least now I am AWARE of how much I am wasting and I think that's a start.
Bless you for this video, Mary. One of the most wonderful things about your channel is that you encourage your audience to do better with whatever they can afford. You not only inspire those who have the financial flexibility to make better choices, but also those who have much tighter budgets. I know a lot of people (both in the US, and where I live in the UK) who are *really* struggling to make ends meet at present. I'm not talking having to forego a luxury here and there, but rather those who are one small domestic crisis away from having to use a food bank. Thank you for remembering them! God bless you. +JMJ+
Bless your heart! You share so many wonderful tutorials, I am so sorry you received these negative comments. And yet you have lovingly responded with kindness instead of coming back with a diatribe. Here you are teaching us how to turn the negative into a positive. Thank you for all you have taught us in the past and for all you continue to teach. Much love is pouring out to you from so many. As we search for what meets our needs and what we can learn, it isn’t necessary to be judgemental or condescending to others. Take what meets our needs and move on. I’m grateful for bargains when I find them, so thank you for sharing that knowledge with us. As always, Mary, much love as you continue on with your mission. - Joy
Let’s always pray over whatever our Father has provided as clean food for his children. Gratefulness is healing. You just reminded me of an episode on a children’s TV show from the 50s. It was captain kangaroo. He had a skit called “stone soup“. A Family was under siege by an army and they had no food. So they got out their big kettle. They filled it with water and put some stones in it. As they talked about how delicious this was going to taste, the enemy soldiers started contributing things like potatoes and carrots and everyone ended up eating a nutritious meal. I am 70 years old and that story has never left me.
When I think of kindness, compassion and grace you immediately come to mind. You bring such love and caring to your channel and everyone watching is blessed. We buy organic, when possible and are most fortunate to be able to do so. However, we know many amazing families that are struggling to just pay their utility bills, purchase gasoline and put food on the table. Arrogance, pridefulness and judging others is sinful; may we all be full of grace and humility. God bless you, Mary.
I loved this! Thank you so much, Mary. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to economize. I definitely cannot afford to cook purely pasture raised chicken and eggs for my family. Times are very rough right now.
Mary you are awesome and patient. You show your mission, and how it so clearly overrides arrogant or simply ignorant people. I think these comments come from 1st world watchers because the rest of the world understands this better. It really is about doing your best (and sharing), not about slighting the rest. I have watched many of your videos, and you say this in so many ways, so many times. How could they not hear... that is annoying to me, that you even have to do this video. But again, I see your mission. May God bless your efforts and you have no more opposition.
Amen Ms Mary. We are all in this together. I have been learning how to stretch things with what I have. I do make what I can from scratch . We are on a very tight budget. Thank you for all you do .God grace should be everywhere.
Some people are just waiting to pounce on the least little things. If they watch you regularly they would know that you encourage each of us to do what we can. We appreciate you giving us alerts when you find a good deal. Thanks for everything, Mary!
You really are a class act, Mary. For all those nay sayers that had something to say about the chicken video, here’s my suggestion to them. Go get your own RUclips channel, create your own perfect content and let’s see how easy and appealing to the masses you are. Keep up the great work, Mary. There are more of us that appreciate you than those that don’t ❤
My family has been very blessed to be given food that is too old for the stores to sell anymore . And we have always thanked God and thanked the volunteers.
I have been following you for about a year now. You are an incredible person with infinite class and grace. It’s hard to imagine that viewers.can not appreciate the fact that the majority can’t afford to buy the best of the best but are trying to improve what they can within their budget. I applaud you in the very kind way you addressed these people which is very sad that you had to make this video. Your channel is a gift and so are you !! Rock on from crazy Miami Florida !!! You are a gift to this earth.
Dear Mary, your grace is a precious breath of fresh air in these unusual and hard times. So many of us are blessed to be able to even afford the $5. chicken. There are other countries that would feel beyond blessed to have a $5 chicken rather than the rats they have to chase down, (We have a family friend that lives in an Asian country and they had to live that way for many years)! You are a blessing to us. At our house we're thankful for a bowl of beans.Would I love to be able to eat organic, grass fed and pasture raised food? Of course! But I would rather eat a commercial chicken or even processed boxed food than not eat. We are so grateful for you! Thank you for your grace and your wisdom.
Mary you are a wonderfull person, not only helping people with low economies and how to cook better and stretch their money but being so sweet and gracefull talking about. The reality is exactly like you say, and it's happening all over the world. I live in Spain and we have the same problem, it's buying sometimes less than perfect food but trying to make it into a good meal and streching it as much as possible so we can afford to pay for gas to go to work, or our electricity bill or our morgage or the dentist for example. Thank you for your videos, you are an inspiration 🥰
Mary I totally agree with you! We cannot always afford organic products…people need to wake up…don’t let those negative comments change what you do to educate and teach us!
I have a friend whose parents had to eat grass and milk from their milk cow to survive the great depression. I’m sure they would’ve been delighted to have had a Walmart chicken then! Yes cooking with economy and grace is where it’s at! You are an amazing lady and thank you so much for what you do for us!
Mary, Mary, full of grace❤ You are the sweetest thing. My husband's side of the family are food snobs. They only eat organic to the point of being extremely rude in my house. On their last visit I couldn't hold my tongue & I don't think they will be back. If only I had your grace🙏❤ I bet your sweet voice can put grand babies to sleep on the first page of the story book😴😘
Amen, sister! You are a blessing to my life, and a renewing breath of fresh air 🤗🥰! You have taught me so much, and been an inspiration, and mentor in my journey to the 4 corners kitchen/pantry! It's taken me a lifetime to feel like I'm enough. Those feelings grow into either humility and confidence, or sadness and bitterness. My faith in God led me to a more confident me, and the humility of grace, for myself and for others, and for that, I am eternally grateful! My Mom has passed (she would be 103 this year), so a similar history as your mother. These depression babies grew up in a world of no waste, making do, and stretching their dollars. I so appreciate you, Mary! You are a treasure, and your work here is truly a masterpiece of love! Thank you, dear You Tube friend ❤!
Well said! Most of America cannot afford to buy everything organic and/or grass fed. If we can add more nutritious foods here and there we are doing good. Especially now people are worried about putting food on the table, period. Thank you for addressing this so graciously!
I Love all your videos and have my prep pantry started and growing. I found boneless skinless chicken legs at Aldi's and cooked them up in my instant pot served and with wild rice/mushrooms/sliced almonds and sauteed asparagus. It was so good I went back to get more. To my surprise the package was marked at 1.69 lb vs the sign at 2.29. I grabbed 2 bulk packs! Divided and stored in the freezer for later use. I'm not opposed to buying non organic chicken during these time bu I am buying more organic products moving forward. Love you Mary. You're bringing knowledge to many who've never been taught these essential skills.
I am so thankful for this video! It is so easy for people forget that not everyone is on the same level, in the same situation, or in the same spot along their clean cooking journey. For us, we are just learning to be self sufficient, moving into traditional foods and use higher quality ingredients, but we have to make thoughtful decisions as to what we can afford to do. We would feel so blessed to find chicken for $5.00! Instead of criticizing people for their choices, maybe find out why someone has to make that decision, or ask how you can help, or volunteer at a food bank to see what others are struggling with. To be honest, when people are trying to figure out how they are going to put enough gas in their car to get to work, buying organic is the last thing on their mind. Your calling for GRACE really makes me feel BLESSED for finding you, here.
Dear Mary, you are truly grace personified. I appreciate that you teach EVERYONE, give lots of options and then we can work that information into our own budgets. Like many have already said, you truly are a TREASURE. Thank you! ❤️
I wish I could double like this video. You are doing amazing and important work Mary. Adapting to the realities of the new world with economy and grace. Love it.
I just want to Thank you Mary. My food budget has been stretched sometimes overstretched. I have been stretching my food. Luckily it is just My Husband and I. I have been pursuing canning, it is in the future. I have to budget in all the equipment, jars and such. I have started buying whole chickens. I agree, it doesn't matter what chicken. The Bone broth can be made into something spectacular with organic vegetables scraps or a celery root. That broth can boost an immune system like no tomorrow. I am on the hunt for that book. Listening to you can relieve stress. You are a teacher of solutions and abundant grace. The Amazement of grace is what makes a good cook. How could you not be amazed by a homemade loaf of bread. St Faustina used to speak to the bread she made, "How beautiful you are, what joy you will bring to a table". She would blush at the wonder of the provider of all things.
Mary thank you for sharing grace. Amen! My young adult son living on the autism spectrum got upset with me for listening to some RUclips personalities with strong opinions because they raised his anxiety and offended his logical sensibilities. When I switched to your channel I saw his shoulders relax. He expressed gratitude for your cheerful voice and positive message. Please keep trusting the Woman’s Intuition the Good Lord gave you!
You did a great job handling this issue. I enjoy your channel because it reminds me of things I learned in childhood. I grew up in rural poverty so for me a "traditional kitchen" was simply daily life and the struggle to survive. I appreciate your tips for finding food bargains and I think it is important for you to teach younger folks about frugality, meal extenders, and how to manage household budgets. It's amazing how skills some of us learned out of necessity were lost in times of plenty. It is amazing that in my lifetime, the way I grew up is now known as a "traditional kitchen." I am not that old but in the end, I suppose I'd prefer to be called 'traditional' instead of 'antique.' 🤣😂
First of all, you are a realist. And you take into account your audience. Not everyone has the means to buy natural, grass-fed, pasture-raised food. Thank you for being there for ALL of us, especially in these difficult times when prices keep rising. You have explained it beautifully: cooking with economy AND grace. I love you for it! You have certainly exhibited grace in this video, as you have ALWAYS done in ALL your videos.
I guess that its so easy to juge without knowing situation and not everyone can " put yourself into someone's shoes " ... you are so right! So much information you share ! God bless your family ! ❤
You are a much, much nicer person to intolerance and unkindness than I, Miss Mary. Your grace and compassion under fire is remarkable, and oh, so lovely to witness.
People who are critical of your videos regarding your goal to honor those who do not have the resources will be humbled one day. I can but I really cannot believe that you actually had to make this video.
Beautifully put Mary! Thank you for such compassionate advice. My mother always says “who are we to judge?”, and it’s true. We never know what’s going on in other people’s houses, hearts, and minds. It makes more sense to be compassionate & helpful, rather than discouraging & overly critical. I always feel so inspired when I watch your videos❤️
God bless the person who takes a piece of raw meat and prepares it for family. It means they are not running through the fast food window. We all do the best we can with what we have to work with at any given time. Never look down on someone unless your extending your hand to lift them when they don't have the means to do so .
So sorry you got some critical responses from your other video, Mary. Folks have to realize each video may not be an ideal match for their situation but a perfect fit for others. We try to take as much of the good information as we can and what does not ally, we just pass that by. Keep sharing your knowledge and realize most everyone watching appreciates you. Have a blessed weekend.

THANK YOU for putting into words
EVERYTHING that I ALSO want to say to our sweet friend!🥰🥰🥰
Very well said,Mary. I’ve enjoyed your site for over a year and have learned a great deal from you. I’ve always enjoyed cooking and bread baking. You always show grace in all your videos…..❤️
Mary, thank you for putting this into prospective for me. I too was perplexed at 1st when I saw that post. On another note. My family and I will be traveling across country (and back) in July. I'm wondering if you have any tips for us to be able to still eat well during travel.
The book is still available on Amazon (USA) if people are unable to find it locally. It has a different cover than the one you showed but it's the same book.
"Better is a dish of vegetables where there is love
Than a fattened bull where there is hatred." Proverbs 15:17
Thank you Mary for helping ALL of us with love and grace!
One of my favorite verses!
Hi Michelle, I feel the same way! Glad you're here!! Love, Mary
One hundred percent agree. Until we walk in another man's shoes....
So, you'd rather be 'prudent stewards' of your family's MONEY, rather than 'prudent stewards' of your family's HEALTH???
@@DawnieRotten They aren’t mutually exclusive, as Mary demonstrates so well for us. If you’d like some help finding that balance, post your questions. As Mary said, she and many of her followers have experience we can share. 🌸
@@DawnieRotten I think you have missed the point of the video, but it’s okay. I hope the people who needed to hear this were encouraged!
Amen sister.
Beautifully said, Mary! Let's remember that others may have hardships we cannot even imagine.
I think that Mary did the right thing.🥰
Some of those being negative may really need to be put in their place and Mary's sweet response should have a good humbling effect on them.
Some may have felt some pressure to be perfect while struggling themselves and Mary just gave them permission to not stress about the inability to do so.
And some just really don't understand and may now be able to find that grace for others themselves.
I really hope her message reaches the people who need to hear it.😊
Edited to add: Some people (like me) also need to learn to handle people in the beautiful Christian manner that Mary does.
Thank you so much! Love, Mary
Love, Mary
Appreciate you and your helpful ideas!!
I appreciate you too Mary. God bless and hugs from 🇬🇧 xx
AMEN, you took the words right out of my mouth. Mary, you are so precious and filled with kindness and Grace. God bless you!
What some people don't know is that they are eating 94 cent Chicken with a fancy label on it.
This is a great reminder! Not everyone is at the same place in life. Grace builds people up instead of tearing them down.
Wow , took the words right out of my mouth. You are spot on.Thx. 🤗
Beautifully said!
Mary, you are a gift from God
totally agree!! Thank you Mary for all of your info!
I'm so glad you're here!! Love, Mary
Oops! Hit thumbs down instead of up. I absolutely agree!
You speak with such compassion, wisdom and grace Mary. Thank you for all you do. Perfection has always been the enemy of good enough.
May God bless the foods that each family can afford and make us all truly thankful for what we have.
Blessed be.
You are so welcome!
Christ would approve of this method. Always meet people where they are.❤
Thank you, Mary!
Sheesh
You are amazing Mary.. thanks for showing grace and being such an inspiration to others
So true!
Such wisdom and grace you have Mary! We all need to do the best we can for where we are in our lives. And……we all need to be kind.
She speaks to me like my beloved mother :) Love the wisdom and peace that exudes her.
I love how sweetly and logically you addressed the narrow minded highty tighty folks. You are definitely a sweet friend ❤
You have stated time and time again - you do NOT have to buy organic, speciality foods, etc...to eat healthy.
Xoxo
Thank you SO much! Love, Mary
I'm in the UK. Utilities are so expensive. I'm single and no job. Times are tough for sure.
I can't believe you got those harsh comments .... this video makes total sense. Thanks for the inspiration and the encouragement 💝
Hi Angela, Thanks so much for being here!! Love, Mary
God Bless you Mary for this video. It is so true.. Thanks for taking time to do graciously explain about this. You are such a special talented lady.
Oh Esther! Thank you so much for the kind words! Love, Mary
Thank you for this video.. the world needs lots of grace. People need to follow the old sayings
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,”
"If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all"
Peace to you and your family
Amen! Learning to live our lives with grace takes time and patience. We all need to be kind not only to others but to ourselves❤️
You have a wonderful way of "setting people straight". It's so important to meet people where they are. Thank you for this great video. A true Texan!
Someone taught me to think of the concept
"Good....better....best"
The $5 chicken is still a "good" option because you are cooking it yourself, adding your own spices, and still have bones to make broth!
Hey Joyce how are you
Hi Mary. I love your videos and you are super sweet lady. I hope you do not allow the negative comments to hurt you and please focus on the positive comments. So many of us out here love you I love your videos
Thank you so much! Don't worry. I am an eternal optimist and always focus on the positive. Love, Mary
I’m so sorry for your loss. May God comfort you.
@@brendahorton4907 Thank you so much!!💗
I'm so sorry for yr loss, sending lots of love and hugs to you xx
@@debkeighleydk Oh thank you!💞
Hi Mary, I just have to say that in my opinion YOU are the embodiment of kindness and graciousness!
Mary who is messing with you? Name drop. I got you sis. You are an angel. No one messes with my Mary. 😁
+JMJ+
Mary you are a woman full of grace. Some people are very narrow minded.
You’re amazing, Mary! Thank you for all the great advice and practical attitude!
Hahaha, your suggestion are great. How do you keep up with exercising and other healthy practices?
Thank you for speaking to all of your community. We all have individual needs and need to do what is best for your own family.
Mary, Mary, full of grace❤ You are the sweetest thing. My husband's side of the family are food snobs. They only eat organic to the point of being extremely rude in my house. On their last visit I couldn't hold my tongue & I don't think they will be back. If only I had your grace🙏❤
I bet your sweet voice can put grand babies to sleep on the first page of the story book😴😘
very gracious lady-thanks for your kind words...I am 67 years old and just learning these techniques. I never feel overwhelmed listening to you.
You remind me so much of my beloved Mother ✝️ RIP💞
Thanks so much Mary for all you do!!
I love your content, Mary. I should tell you that more often. ❤️ God bless you!
Mary has always given alternatives for all cooks including everyone. She reaches everyone.
I so appreciate your kindness and intentionality. I was thrilled to read all the loving and understanding comments from this lovely community.
Dear Mary, you are truly grace personified. I appreciate that you teach EVERYONE, give lots of options and then we can work that information into our own budgets. Like many have already said, you truly are a TREASURE. Thank you! ❤️
Sounds cool. Apart from what you take in, how do you keep up with exercising and other healthy practices?
I wish I could double like this video. You are doing amazing and important work Mary. Adapting to the realities of the new world with economy and grace. Love it.
So graciously stated. You have really been such a blessing (and friend) to me. I appreciate you and always look forward to your videos.
Thank you Mary you are my go to when I want to learn to make any thing, recently I find that,I want to
Yes, I agree that tone-deaf judgemental people are obnoxious. You have much more patience than I do, Mary. Your kind words are uplifting.
I guess that its so easy to juge without knowing situation and not everyone can " put yourself into someone's shoes " ... you are so right! So much information you share ! God bless your family ! ❤
Well said!
You are a much, much nicer person to intolerance and unkindness than I, Miss Mary. Your grace and compassion under fire is remarkable, and oh, so lovely to witness.
You are an inspiration and set an example for all....more than you can possibly imagine Mary. Thank you for making this world a better place!!!
