- I went to a charity open mat at Masterskya BJJ in NYC. I had the honor of rolling with one of the experienced instructors. Super Dave! Check him on instagram @super_dave26.

I would love to hear an interview with Super Dave.
Thank you. I’m working on it!
Hope you can make the interview happen! Love your content, keep up the good work!
Hi (sorry I don't know your name). One of the guys in the back (in white pants) is Brian, one of my training partners at Brooklyn Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu; he is an AWESOME guy and a high-level Black Belt (an absolute pleasure to roll with on the mat!). I got my purple belt about a year ago, and also started teaching the basic classes about 3-4 months ago. Would love to get a friendly roll with you one of these days as I will be turning 50 in November, so will officially "join" the Jits Over 50 soon (for now just joined your channel that I find excellent and very beneficial especially for beginners as your narration helps them make sense of what is happening on the mat).
Oss,
Aleks
So cool. Some moves I could attempt to use for myself.
thx
The knee in the arm pit is key!
Getting blue belt next week! Hope to roll with you one day.
How do you know? You have a test set up? Good luck!
Wish I knew about that open mat definitely would have supported that event. Really nice of them to do that. I went to a seminar before covid at their (I believe) previous location in Brooklyn. Was a fun event, it was a berimbolo seminar by Mayssa Bastos. As you know I’m not a very flexible guy, so my neck and back was a mess for a couple weeks after that, but absolutely worth it. Some good people there. Nice round(s).
Training in NYC this week was absolutely brutal. Especially in the gi.
There were people in the gi at open mat. I brought mine but there was no way I was putting it on. ha. God bless em.
Facts
I will tell you how big guys can get technical- train so hard you don't have the energy to not be technical. That's what I am doing right now. At 41 I am in class 5 hours a week and sparring 5 hours a week. I am 41, I am 6' 3" and 200 lbs but I literally don't have the energy to muscle anything. Its led to me really preferring transitions over anything else. I am always looking for the next thing I want because I dont have the energy to hold what I have for long.
@@jedsanford7879 agreed!
Nice video, its a bit hard to hear at 8:30 because of the background noise
Yeah I made the ambient louder to try and hear super Dave.
You looked good.
Thank you sir.
Masterskya is awesome. You should tour other nyc bjj gyms!
I am probably going to Essential with JT Torres next. I was watching him roll with another tough black belt. Scary bjj
@@Jitsover50 amazing. I train at essential
@@Jitsover50essential is good. I went to a Keenan seminar years ago.
@@nickdell1290 My buddy from back in the kung fu days keeps inviting me. I have to oblige
Would you say most people above you in rank have the same approach to rolling as you do with less advanced people? I.e., emphasis on technique, not being overly competitive, not going super-hard? Thank you
Sadly no. I’ve rolled with plenty of higher ranks that still go crazy. Their game is still based on athleticism

Thank you Dimitri!
