- T5 transporter guys is finally time to start the build series and the first thing I want to do is getting the engine swap done and that's the ASZ pd 130 to T5 1.9 tdi.

@@YTDTETV I took my 1999 E38 in one off these places today not Halfords but like that . Acable was hanging down or part of the under tray corner was down ,The young lad came out and said i can see it went and got a trolly jack put it rite in the middle off my doors and said this jack can lift 2 tone .NO no no stop ,its got jacking points front and rear he was going dead centre of the sill and both doors .
@@guy4469 oh man that would have punted the sill in really bad, some people need more experience before being aloud to do stuff.

I've just come across your great videos and now following your channel.
This was because I'm weighing up a BLS to ASZ engine swap to a Caddy van.
Really glad I did, because from what you say, only an Alhambra and Fabia ASZ engine will fit the Caddy mainly because of the oil filter style on the likes of the Golf MK4 sticking out too far as you said.
Is that the only two ASZ engines that can be used in the conversion please and if also going for the 6 speed box conversion too, is the associated Alhambra and Fabia gearbox and gear selector & cables etc also the correct parts to be used?
Looking great bought t5 t28 2 years ago the 1.9 88 bhp and was thinking same about turbo dont wana blow it but would love a little more pfttt and dont want to break a gearbox i no the engines are decent solooking forward to what turbo you go with great project mate
Hey Karl thank you 👍 I was surprised on how small the turbo was we probably have the same size, that’s exactly what I’m going to aim for a little more get up and go but I don’t want it to be to punchy as it is a van just abit more when needed. Appreciate the comment 👍

Is it worth leaving the pd130 turbo on the asz or should we put on the axb turbo off the old engine would it not make much difference?

Perfect timing for your T5 project , I’m in the middle of stripping my head off my T5 1.9tdi with exactly the same problem , system pressurising !. First time I’ve done a head gasket since a ford cross flow engine 30 odd years ago ! , Have learnt so much from your video , was going to get my head skimmed but exhaust valves had play , camshaft is worn , and feel a little out of my depth with stripping it down so think I’m going to buy a new ready to go head , expensive but could do with getting the van back on the road , like the idea of copying what your doing by putting in a better engine , but maybe that a project for another time . I want to clean up my engine bay like you have , what do you spray on before jet washing ? I’ve got so much crud on mine too ! Looking forward to the next video
Hey Paul thank you for the comment 👍 glad the videos are useful, if you’ve managed to get a head off I’m sure you’ll be ok re fitting one, I’ll explain in depth refitting in the next video. They do suffer with camshaft wear but are cheap enough to replace. I know I’m upgrading the engine but even after 280k miles this engine would have still run good with just a new head gasket, I believe it’s the coolant that had rusted the metal gasket causing failure. I have spare cylinder heads here maybe if you get stuck for finding one I could help you out with a rebuilt one. Thank you bud

Forgot the mention, I use a truck wash and a paint brush to loosen the grime before pressure washing, have a look on Amazon or eBay and just type truckwash even the cheap stuff will do just put it in a pump bottle and mix with abit of water 👍

Fantastic video. That Transporter is going to be a dream to drive after you've finished. Have you used Lanoguard instead of waxoil? It's brilliant. 👍

Hi bud thank you appreciate the comment 👍 I normally just call Eurocarparts for service items then search eBay for bigger items, most parts from all the T5’s are the same as each other so easy to find what fits.

Awesome video! Just picked up a transporter myself with what appears to be headgasket dramas, oil and coolant mixed everywhere and pressuried coolant. My question, you mention not being able to use the Mk4 engine because of the oil filter, Can this not be swapped between engines? I've got two AXR pd100s out of Polo 9n3 and I will more than likely end up swapping one of them into my transporter if it fits... Curious to hear your input on this! Thanks
Hey bud sorry for the delay, the bolt pattern on the oil filter housings are different unfortunately, you can still use the engine with the big oil filter housing it does just clear.
Could you not use the filter housing from the t5 block? Or could you use a golf engine and get the fabia housing..... Also could swap the engine and just run the stock inlet and injectors? Did that many moons ago on a mk5 bxe to ajm swap.... Just got myself a t5 project and following with baited breath
Hey bud so the engine with the oil filter housing that sticks right out has a different bolt pattern to the block unfortunately but the Fabia version has the same housing as the T5 and the same bolt pattern, happy days on the new T5 project 👍👍

Hi bud it doesn’t fit the bolt pattern is different, you can use the golf asz engine but you might need to change the normal radiator fan for a slim line spal type fan. Thank you 👍

Hey al thank you always good to hear from you 👍 I will be repainting it and give it the DTE touch, going to go 2 tone so a grey bottom half then a fresh white on top. The bodywork is in good shape so it won’t be as bad as the caddy was.

Hi I'm in Australia and looking at buying a 2015 VW 2.0litre Diesel High Top (which is rare to find) and converting to a Campervan. Just wanted to ask can you replace the T5 engine with a younger T6 engine . The vehicle has 400,000 on the clock and looking to inspect today.
Hi bud the 2.0l engine in the T6 is a good engine and you’d be surprised how strong they are, if it was me I would service the engine and replace gearbox oil then I would replace the 2 bolts that hold the injectors down, find out about the last time the timing belt and water pump was done and replace if needed, last thing if it still got the DPF then I’d have that emptied and remapped. If it turns out the engine is tired then yes you can fit the older 1.9tdi, you would need a few pieces thow. Engine and gearbox, drive shafts etc then engine loom and ecu and find someone to do the wiring as a few pins would need swapping. It can be done but it is a fair sized job. Again the 2.0l in the t6’s are good.
If you have a skim how do you work out how many notches you need in the new head gasket ? Looking good btw
Hey Marc that is a good question 👍 I don’t know how to answer it but I should have ordered the gasket after the head was skimmed as if they have to take more off I would have ordered the next size up but I didn’t 😂 I ordered the same size and I hope they only take a small amount off. I’ll update next video 👍
My understanding of this is that , it’s not the skim that determines the thickness of the gasket , it’s down to how much the piston rises in the bore (Haynes Manual explains how to measure this with a gauge ) skimming the head doesn’t affect the gasket to be used , just use the same amount of holes as last one , this is my understanding anyway.

Hey Micheal, don’t panic easy mistake to make as I made the Same one I just realised and bought another engine. If I was you I’d remove the rad fan you have a buy a universal slim line one off eBay and that will be good 👍

@@Michael-rh8kr lots of people still use those engine as it’s still really strong just with a longer oil filter housing. Slimline fan and you will have plenty of room, just wore the 2 wires straight to the van wires 👍
good afternoon i need some help i have a vw t5 that has a pd 100 engine and i don't have a gearbox... i can't even get a gearbox which gearbox i can adapt is there any compatibility the van is from 2004
Hi Bud unfortunately the van box’s are different to any of the car box’s so it’s a case of finding the same replacement

@@YTDTETV I’ve got a pair following headlight change on mine. Selling van and buyer doesn’t want them. There’s a small scratch on the passenger side unit, but in great condition otherwise. You can have them foc as they’re just taking up space in my loft 🙄

Hi bud it is possible but the 2.5 gearbox doesn’t fit the 1.9 so you would need a few extra parts to make it work 👍

Hey David yes they definitely would fit, infact the whole engine and gearbox would literally bolts straight in and outlive your original block. So if you end up thinking about the swap you should price up how much it would cost to replace your engine with a recon one I’d say around £4K inc labour might even be more, then price up how much an engine swap to a pd130 would cost and I reckon it’s a similar amount unless you can do bits yourself. The only thing that is not DIY is fitting the engine bay wiring loom as wires need to be swapped etc. glad you found the channel and appreciate the comment 👍
Don't shoot me, but I'm sure I read that the oil coolers have a known issue causing pressurisation and overheating. Might be a different lump, but rings a bell.
Hey bud I don’t shoot peoples ideas or inputs down I hate when I read that happening on the internet. I have also heard that to 👍 my reply to that would be if an oil cooler fails and they do on these then you would see either oil residue in the coolant tank or the oil would go milky. I don’t see how it could pressurise but I might be wrong so just to be sure I won’t use the oil cooler that was in the T5. Thanks for the comment 👍
