I’m no mechanic other than doing my own servicing so found this really interesting, well edited and super snappy, no messing about, brilliant job, hope the vans got a new lease of life and that you’re happy with it 👍
love your video and your honesty about your weight and age as I find working on any of the family cars getting up and down does me in ...lol ..love VW vans had 2 has a service engineer
Fairplay Lee grand job my brr is driving me nutts came home from a 2hr drive popes bonnet to see id water was ok and iv got air coming from the pin hole of that breather disc on the cam cover also jumping on idle and take forever to start
Good job. Love these engines, I swap PD130s into everything 😂 Look into getting a better turbo. Gtb1756 with pd130 injectors work well - hopefully u have a good clutch
@@sas8403 I'm not sure with the gear ratios of a 6speed T5 gearbox. Im at the coast of South Africa, swapping T5 with 6spd trans is quite a mission, I have done one but it still has a bv39 with stage 2 tune - did not put it on a Dyno. However on cars such as polo and seat we get about 160kw and 480NM on the wheels with gt1752. On gtb1756 we get about 185kw 490NM - I'm not too comfortable with the Boost control on gt1749vb with a 56mm comp wheel so I avoid that combo unless we change the turbine wheel to something slightly larger.
Really informative and an easy watch thanks muchly Definitely given me more confidence to do it myself Just a thought and it may have already been mentioned ut if the fabia sump and pickup were shorter would the dipstick then be shorter aswell or is this not the case because oil is filled to the same level on both blocks regardless of sump depth cheers
Hi there , just watched both videos and you’ve made the whole operation look relatively simple . Did you use the original ecu and would it be safe to drive the vehicle to get mapped with the 130 injectors in ? Regards Paul
To be honest there isn’t anything complicated. Hardest bit for me was getting up off the floor again! I wouldn’t recommend driving unmapped but it also depends on how far you are going and what the original engine was mapped to. I suppose if it runs it’s at your own risk.
Hi Lee, do you not need to do the crank sensor mod on the t5 I’m looking to do mine soon but I read you need to change the crank sensor for the one where you need to cut a hole in the webbing of the block also was told you need to swap cam gear for original one
Awesome job! You being the handy man that you are, would you have any advice on how to change the gearbox mount on these? they have 3 bolts that secure the mount to the gearbox but one is hidden, how do you get to that?
I’m having a nightmare with my van (cracked sump) can’t get the bolt out next to the gearbox like you mentioned, usually a ball head hex does the trick but the centre is rounded 😢
Oh. I find with rounded hex bolts sometimes you can use a slightly larger torx bit and whack it in there. Or use a 12 point socket to whack on the outside of the head
@@SpyderLEE I’ve managed to do it now, who knew vag do a special hex that goes into the bolt further, local garage lent me the tool which done the trick, so I have just ordered myself one 👍🏻 cheers for the reply
Just done the same swap on my 2009 t5. Your mate is mapping mine too.... Just one question, why did you bother notching the front mount for the dipstic? They remove so easily once tge sump is off. Just a little tap with a drift and they pull out. Better to use the t5 all metal tube rather than the fabia plastic one👍
I got the asz pd130 out of a golf but the flywheel from my t5 won't bolt on? ive found out after the golf was a 6 speed is that why it won't bolt on? any answers?
Great video, I am considering this with my brr. Would you say it’s worth it ? Can you feel any difference or just the same but a more reliable engine? Thanks
It’s night and day over the stock 105bhp engine. I suppose it will depend on your starting point. Mine was a mapped 105 so the power difference is similar to what I had but I didn’t want more. Don’t want to be buying another gearbox. But the engine is so much quieter and doesn’t smoke. So in that respect a big change for me.
Hi Lee nice job, just about to do an axb to asz conversion, picking an engine up in the morning from a Vw sharan on 128000 miles, I’d just like to know did you have to change the cam pulley and did you buy a cam belt kit for an axb engine or asz regards Tom
@@SpyderLEE ahh ok mate just wondered if the cam was the same size and if I needed to use the Donner car from the asz registration to order a belt or if I could use my original registration, I’ve seen some people on pd 130 site on Facebook saying cams are the same and others saying you need to change them, would be nice to know but I’ll compare them now I have the engine I picked up today
Hi lee did you have to drill the block to fit the original crank sensor fully built a pd130 engine and came to swap it and sensors are majorly different and different locations
Hi lee just wondered what your view about ulez coming to all the towns and cities, reason being is it worth putting money into a older non apliant engine, i have a t5.1 with only 65000 on the clock although i dont want ,i am thinking of changing it for a newer t6 as i travel as much as possible in the van . Very intresting vidio though thank you
I think the ulez expansion is absolutely disgusting forcing the average working person into a debt they probably can’t afford just to get a compliant car to carry on getting to work so they can pay more tax. Personally I’m not in an area of concern and with the van, built up places are last places I want to be in the camper so shouldn’t really affect my van or the camping.
Hi Lee any idea where i can find one of these fabia vrs engines for my t5 I can't find ne anywhere? There's golf ASZ engines but I heard oil filter housing are different. Thanks Paul.
Can’t remember the size to be honest. If you look back at my swamper conversion videos the installation is on there. Think it has a link to the same one. Noise? With what, the light at or the tyres
Great video, I learnt a lot- I bought my T5 after having seen this video. It’s got 238k miles but this video gives me hope that I’ll be able to swap the engine out soon it need it at some point. Quick question if I may - how hot does your’s run at? I know diesel’s are hard to get to temperature but I’ve never had mine up to 90 deg. It seems to sit at 75 all the time - regardless of how hard I drive it. Could be athermostat but don’t want to replace if this is just how they run. Ta
Hi Lee, did you use the pd130 turbo, or did you use your turbo off the old engjne was your old one pd105 I'm hoping Sheffield can do mine my engjen is in but I'm using the pd85/105 turbo on the pd130 so getting through correct map is a pain hopefully Sheffield will sort it
Hi. I used my turbo off the old engine. When I bought the engine he didn’t have a stock pd130 turbo. He only had hybrid in stock. I didn’t want to push my gearbox too much so bottled out on getting a hybrid. But yeah Paul will be able to map whatever turbo you go for. 👍

U don't have to swap the crank sensor on the T5. The same with the cam sensor, the pick up plates on the pulley is the same between edc15 and 16.
Just done the same after watching your videos. Didn't fancy cutting my engine mount though so just swapped the dip sticks over too.
I didn’t realise the dipstick just pulled off until after I fitted the engine or I would have swapped dipsticks too 🤦♂️
