I just purchased the Ford Explorer ST from City World Ford here in Bronx, N. Y. Love this SUV it’s awesome to drive smooth high way driving, just a great vehicle all around.
The noise is probably the moon roof and why I bought one without it! Mine is completely loaded minus that panoramic roof. Love the massaging seats and ALL the features! Love my ST!! I have 0 complaints.
Yea I agree my friend sun roofs especially pano roofs are the worst. Less glass in a vehicle can help long term creaks rattles and most importantly noise.
I've owned mine 3 days now. I traded a 2015 Subaru STI that was pro tuned lightly modded running 310WHP and 360WTQ. I was looking to get into an SUV again but wanted to try and keep some level of fun. Your comment about the throttle is referred to as "turbo lag" you will feel this effect on any turbo charged vehicle unless equipped with some form of anti-lag. Drive mode switching analysis is fair, definitely annoyingly slow from my STI. As far as ride, coming from the STI it's very smooth, I test drove a TRD Pro 4runner which was like riding in a cloud so I found the ST nice provided its performance based. Coming from the limited STI I love the creature comforts of the ST, I find the massage chairs a bit weak though :( ... I took it on a very curvy state park mountain road I liked to blast up in my STI and I have to say, sport mode in ST and it was handling it almost as well as that STI for a big SUV. I hate the wheels on the ST ( but I usually hate ALL factory wheels) overall I love it and can't wait for the aftermarket to start getting some goodies available
@@jim6807 it was worth it to me. Working construction trades for 20yrs takes a toll on the back and the STI was just starting to cause me back pain on long rides
Not sure whats going on with that particular car... I've had my ST for over 5 mos. 7000 miles now, No whistling, no seat problems, no problems at all. love the telescopic... steering column, & folding mirrors. I usually drive in normal mode, sport mode on occation... i get anywhere from 21.5 to 23.7 mpg & just about everytime I drive it I hit at least 100 mph at some point... extremely fun car to drive. With 5600 lbs tow weight, sport mode w/manual shift, sand & snow modes I feel like I have several rigs all in one... & I lay down the 3rd seat for my husky, she goes everywhere w/me.. plenty of room for her & she has her own climate. LOVE LOVE my ST...
@@sealoftheliving4998 yes, it has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 it is standard, with 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque (35 horses and 65 lb-ft more than the old Explorer Sport) routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission w/ manual mode paddle shifters and standard all-wheel drive.

I just got mine all black. Amazing vehicle. I had a 2018 Explorer Sport and that doesn’t even compare to this. This car is made for the loyal ford/explorer type customer. Love it.
I drove a lot of the competition and nothing compared to the ST. The front drivers are no comparison at all. I love the car and have had it for 10 months now. Very fast great drivetrain and handling for an SUV for this money. All the great tech is standard as well.
I love my 23" now that we figured out what that annoying clunk was coming from the front end. It took two trips to the dealership and a loaner car, but I got it back and while they were removing the right front strut for replacement they noticed the upper bearing had separated. So they installed a new RF strut, upper bearing, strut mount, and did an alignment. Reading through the invoice it says “Found SSM 52405 for front strut noise and vehicle falls within build date of SSM criteria" So Ford is aware of this issue somewhere along the line. I know a lot of folks are experiencing this same issue and no one seemed to have a solution I could find. Except that the dealerships were telling them it was normal. DON'T buy that crap if yours is making what sounds like a strut or ball joint noise from the front end!! This SUV runs like a bat out of hell, especially in sport mode. It has a stiff ride and handles like a go cart instead of a 4600lb SUV.
I also wanted an expedition, but got the ST. I got the blue paint. We love it. I had an Armada Platinum Reserve, this is a smaller, lighter, and less bouncy vehicle. After 13 straight Nissan vehicles I am giving Ford a shot. I also got a Ranger XLT for daily driving. Wish me luck...

I've had my 2020 Explorer ST for 2 years. The ride and power are great but other than that I've had multiple issues. I've had 2 sensors go out and received the blue screens of death. Another issue I've had is the back up safety features. I hooked up a bike rack that sticks out a little over 2 feet. I programed the computer showing I have a 3 foot trailer. When backing up, the truck violently locks the brakes every couple of feet thinking you're going to hit something. My latest issue are now the lifters. It's been in the shop a week now with the parts on back order. I wouldn't recommend this truck without a warranty.

Oh and by the way i have a premium warranty for 8 years 100k miles that cover bumper to bumper damage on my car with free tire rotation, any rim damage if they were curb smashed is repaired for free, and any technology or mechanical damges are covered for me where i onyl pay a 100 dollar deductible and they cover the rest no matter how much. I still pay for oil change and brakes though still a small price to pay.
I live in Alaska where it gets COLD, -40f or colder. Something for extreme cold areas to know is the factory tires (Pirelli) are garbage! The noise cancelling foam comes loose in the cold and then you get vibration (out of balance). Took them a month to figure it out, I was the first to buy one in my area. I got the whistle too from the cross bars on the rack. Great vehicle other than that.
@@viniciusmayer1554 a few minor issues: seat module went out (known issue), catalytic converter weld broken and a few recalls that were fixed. Mine was all warranty work.
great job calling out the fake engine sounds on speakers good review can an XLT be upgraded at all to feel more like the ST? i know engine power train seats all different, but maybe suspension upgrades could help?
Nice vehicle. I just got a stinger and love the car but it does sit low and I also have to rent cars on trips cause the HWYS are so bad. This might be a consideration in the future. Low 5 second is pretty quick and this vehicle looks comfortable. I use to get Fords but reliability and treatment at the dealer was subpar. I like performance but I am frugal and there were no SUVs except the AMG GLA 45 that were under 50k and that AMG is small--way smaller then even my Stinger. My only critique is they should have used the 3.5 TT with 450 HP to make this a sub 5 sec to 60 SUV.Have to see how these holdup and let Ford work any kinks out.
This is the best immages and review of an ST explorer on here, i have one and the rear a/c heater fan does whistle in the higher setting, did you try turning it off?
Wow, that's actually good mpg when your driving around sport mode constantly getting on it. I have a 2013 Yukon Denali 6.2l V8 and it can be a gas hog if I was to do that and it's got 400hp
sporty suspension is not what you want on a Suv and idk about that 10 speed or the twin turbo v6 i would wait a few years to fix the problem but i just want a nice NA V8 hopefully chevy or Jeep make some good updated cars
Yea that's not going to happen we are entering a turbo/electric world unfortunately. The enthusiast has no voice in the future world well because there are no sales when companies chase after the enthusiast.
@@SavagexRaccoon No they don't buy anything actually they just comment on youtube videos oggling at Bugatti videos all day. They carry strong opinions but don't put their money where their mouth is. Ford makes stuff like this because people with money are older people with families
Exhaust Sports Auto just look at the Kia stinger or BRZ cars for enthusiasts yet they’re selling slow while SUVs with fake performance badges will sell for a lot more pretty crazy that people will pay 60k for an ST yet enthusiasts cry when their small cars cost more than 25k
@@SavagexRaccoon Precisely. They typical enthusiast is pretty young and ignorant so they typically don't have high incomes to blow on cars. Pretty much any good car will cost you $400-$1200 a month. That's a lot of money for the average person to blow whether it's a lease or financed used or new. Miata/BRZ is one of the few good sports cars and I appreciate the muscle 3 but unfortunately the excellent Camaro might be going away. I guess companies are trying to make these jack of all trades vehicles like this ST so they have sports and utility all in one and the Germans do a good job of it but the Explorer is just a low quality vehicle but with the potential to have been great if Ford cared more. They'll just sell a bunch of Explorers to cops
I feel like if you make a car too many things at once you will inevitably compromise somewhere. I don't expect kids to say a Explorer ST is their dream car Also for 60k can't you get a Porsche Macan? Now that's wild family ride Try to get one to review Kevin
Haha yea this won't be anyones dream car but it is cool nonetheless. Oh yea there are many vehicles you can get for 60k lol. You can get an S model Macan no options as well as an X5. Some might like that this is a ford it won't be too pretentious. I did a review on a Porsche Cayenne Idk if you saw that, not many people did lol. I already filmed a video of me comparing this to the Lincoln Aviator which also costed about the same as this and has the same Engine. Thank you again my friend for watching
We don't get the Explorer here anymore but when we did it was a dedicated 4x4 but whilst that one looks ok Ford's reliability and customer service aren't that great here either so maybe it's for the best we don't have them anymore.
Oh yes I know the model you are referring too. I appreciate what they’re doing here I feel like if someone likes this, they should consider leasing for 3 years to see if they like it afterwards. Thank you so much for watching like always!
I went with the Excursion. We liked the ST but there is less room in the back seat than my 13 Explorer and my tall son just won't fit. Plus, the dash looks like crap in there. Maybe the refresh will fix it but damn they messed it up with that tablet screen.
I have a Durango and the Ford seems like a good newer style SUV with the RWD architecture, but that price is high. Ford keeps pricing themselves upward into the premium levels, but they don't have the materials or quality yet to count as an acura (or even some of the new Mazdas). For significantly cheaper I'd have to lean towards the Telluride. While FWD, it has an engine that will last a lot longer and probably has a nicer interior. Definitely slower though, but thats what the S4 is for ha.
Heck yea I love the way Dodge products drive easily the most fun. I agree I would much rather have the telluride than this, Explorer unfortunately feels like an unfinished project. I would say not everyone can have an S4 but this ford is like 60k lol and the difference between an S4 and this ST well, they are like in 2 different universes haha. Post vids of your S4
Considering buying a 2020 Ford explorer st model. Miles about 58k. Price around 35k, should i buy it? Considering if the high mileage is an issue or not. Can get telluride new for not too much.
It’s nice to see a review of a Ford every once and a while. I’m not sure about the price though. I’m looking forward to seeing how this compares to an Aviator.
What do you mean the noise is generated through the speakers? And is the ST tuned differently than the platinum? I'm between the two and I'm wondering is one better to drive than the other.
Every time you got on the throttle, what you hear is a synthesized fake engine sound to make it sound louder than it is. They do this because Turbo engines sound like Vacuums so Ford, BMW, And other companies feed in fake engine noise through the speakers. Yes this is tuned totally different from the Platinum, its a bit firmer and transmission and motor is programmed to react faster. I'll be honest, if you can step up to a Lincoln Aviator you will be a lot happier much higher quality product
3L? I thought Ford used a 3.5L? All mod experts suggest that Ford skips gears on the 10 gear trans, and that you should have it tuned. Do you actually know what your talking about?
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you're maybe an older person? You're trying to unnecessarily develop conflict with me over simple specs you could have Googled. Zero reason to not know basic specs on a brand new car.
Mine all BLACk that’s a Cops car here in Vancouver BC , it’s a little bit funny coz everyone Slows down when I passed them they think I am a Cop huhuhu
I think because it’s a sports/performance vehicle, it kept inching forward on your initial drive because it has a system that was ready to take off! Just my two cents
I know it didnt it was def a big boy glitch but golly that's a hell of a glitch foot all the way on the brakes and it keeps inching forward? That's stupid scary hellcat wouldn't even do that
@@MeynMotorGroup yeah definitely odd. Everything is guided by computers in these cars and just like any electrical device, things can glitch. But yeah, that's a dangerous glitch.
Its a fun ride very practical powerful enough for most situations too. But those are just my thoughts, most importantly, as long as you love it thats what matters most
@@MeynMotorGroup I debated long on the palisade vs the explorer ST. The palisade Definitely felt more luxurious and drove smoother, but the extra HP and towing capacity sold me on the Ford. Plus it's much sexier than the mom looking palisade. Never got to see a telluride in person. Sold out at every dealer here.
Game Brigade I would prefer the Telluride for sure. A buddy of mine just bought an Explorer ST for his wife, and I have to say, I wasn’t impressed. It looked great from the exterior and was very fast, but I found it to be very eh. The steering was very vague and imprecise and the stuck on screen looks genuinely terrible, but worst of all, the material quality looked like something you’d find in a crossover half the price. All the lower surfaces and the whole center console and air vents are littered with cheap, matte black plastic. Unforgivable at this price. But as long as you like your car, that’s all that matters. Congrats on your new purchase.
Press cars also get abused like crazy. A follower on Instagram has one of these and 8000 miles later he has no issues and his ST is pretty quiet. I remember the Stinger press cars were all rattle boxes with lots of wind noise
@@MeynMotorGroup yeah, any car company can make a lemon. I've heard about it squeaks and rattles in the Kia stinger too. Not that that makes it a lemon, but that would be kind of a deal-killer for me. I can't stand squeaks and rattles, especially in new cars.
Yea the problem with creeks and rattles in new cars is that new cars are getting much more quieter now too so creeks and rattles are so much more noticeable haha
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow my 2019 Kia Forte required new transmission replacement at ~15,500 miles. It was in the dealership from Nov 20, 2019 - Jan 6, 2020. Then 2 days later, the engine overheated 5 times. So I'm gonna check out if my car qualifies for being a lemon. This Ford Explorer has poor front small corner crash, so I would wait for Ford to fix it. Or I would go towards certified Acura or Lexus.
I feel like they have improved and they are starting to care more and more. I know they have a lot of investment in the electric and self drive tech so moving forward, you will def see way more Mach E type vehicles.
I like the new body shape and of course the powertrain. I'm a ExSport owner after 3yrs model in new condition I'm holding on to my 2017. Ford's issues with recalls is very annoying. My vehicle was 54k with choice add ons. So is this an SUV or an overpriced Soccermom car? Ford advertising has some riding on off road terrain but comes with city street tires. I don't care for red brake calipers for me black would be better. Interior looks like the same cheap plastics and again why are the paddle shifters connected to the steering wheel...try shifting while turning. Then I HATE the vertical screen. Either I'll wait for a better model (for the price) or back off entirely and get into a new Bronco.
At this point the only people buying these junk new Fords are loyal. They also get mad if you point out all its flaws and problems. Smart ones leave Ford. The Loyals will keep buying warranties and keep in the shop. No thanks.

I'm buying a used 2020. How is your car, have you had any other problems?
@@viniciusmayer1554 a few minor issues: seat module went out (known issue), catalytic converter weld broken and a few recalls that were fixed. Mine was all warranty work.
@@Bill_KL7TC Thanks
@Bill KL7TC Hunstein I’m about to purchase one of these in Fairbanks actually. Does the Car still do ok in the climate?
great job calling out the fake engine sounds on speakers good review can an XLT be upgraded at all to feel more like the ST? i know engine power train seats all different, but maybe suspension upgrades could help?
Thank you Kevin.
One of these in silver is for sale in UK, imported obviously, 9000miles £52,000 or $71,900. Love it, would be great to buy from Ford UK #forduk
The style looks sick for and SUV
I def agree looks very good
BMW X3 is the Best the most more Power twin turbo Hahha
This is the best immages and review of an ST explorer on here, i have one and the rear a/c heater fan does whistle in the higher setting, did you try turning it off?
Anyone have a explorer st that started having a burning oil smell at idle??
So many upgrades are for this model
Wow, that's actually good mpg when your driving around sport mode constantly getting on it. I have a 2013 Yukon Denali 6.2l V8 and it can be a gas hog if I was to do that and it's got 400hp
Yea for the size and weight I can't complain with those figures. But I would rather have that V8 you're packing haha
Love this SUV
sporty suspension is not what you want on a Suv and idk about that 10 speed or the twin turbo v6 i would wait a few years to fix the problem but i just want a nice NA V8 hopefully chevy or Jeep make some good updated cars
Yea that's not going to happen we are entering a turbo/electric world unfortunately. The enthusiast has no voice in the future world well because there are no sales when companies chase after the enthusiast.
Exhaust Sports Auto true enthusiasts usually never buy new
@@SavagexRaccoon No they don't buy anything actually they just comment on youtube videos oggling at Bugatti videos all day.
This must be what it feels like to be a cop in San Diego
Haha I never once felt like a cop driving this tho
S.K. Matias, great comment.
The Ford dealership is trying to buy my SHO. I’ve been looking at this
Nice yea it's a cool car but it has issues test it for yourself see if you like it
Exhaust Sports Auto Like what 👀
The gap between the second row is horrible usually it has 3 seats but the cup holder would be taking up that space
Kevin That Ford Explorer ST is Faster Than a Volvo XC90 T8
They make it so big 💯#fordmotors
I feel like if you make a car too many things at once you will inevitably compromise somewhere. I don't expect kids to say a Explorer ST is their dream car
Also for 60k can't you get a Porsche Macan? Now that's wild family ride
Try to get one to review Kevin
@@MeynMotorGroup is the telluride that much more desirable even with such a tame engine?
Considering buying a 2020 Ford explorer st model. Miles about 58k. Price around 35k, should i buy it? Considering if the high mileage is an issue or not. Can get telluride new for not too much.
Did you buy it ?

Some would disagree but I certainly agree 👍
It’s nice to see a review of a Ford every once and a while. I’m not sure about the price though. I’m looking forward to seeing how this compares to an Aviator.
Yes that comparison video will be coming out next! Thanks so much for watching this!
A pedal control will fix the lag
Get it in black and left lane is all yours
Facts
Also the exhaust tips piss me off because the actually face down, not sure why ford did that.
Great review Kevin but Highlander for long term reliability got this beat.
Hey thanks again sir and haha I know what you mean. I feel like this would be a great lease option for someone
@@MeynMotorGroup oh hands down. I am really convinced lease across the board these days is required.
Yup haha only a handful of car really you can trust like the Toyota’s you mentioned
You mentioned at 1:50 rear wheel drive then you said AWD at 2:56...which one is it?
RWD architecture the ST model is of course equipped with AWD. RWD is an option but on the base XLT for like $38k
This is ST model. It 3.0L twinturbo.
You sir...are clueless. Lol
This is actually a good review. Actually.
😆
Grand cherokee SRT or Explorer ST. What would you choose?
SRT all day every day even tho it costs more
@@MeynMotorGroup May I know the main reason?
Far better engine and trans proper V8 so the sound is far better. Infotainment is superior, fca vehicles drive great
lol bruh. SRT products shits on ford products all day AYE day.
So is it rear wheel driver or all wheel drive?
Rear wheel drive architecture with awd im shocked how difficult it was for people to understand that
Not gonna take a chance with another ford vehicle. I had a fiesta and it had so many problems with the transmission and engine.
I would personally lease most new cars. I do appreciate Fords endeavor on making good driving cars
Mine all BLACk that’s a Cops car here in Vancouver BC , it’s a little bit funny coz everyone Slows down when I passed them they think I am a Cop huhuhu
Too late!
I think because it’s a sports/performance vehicle, it kept inching forward on your initial drive because it has a system that was ready to take off! Just my two cents
Yea I've never experienced that with any performance car lol
@@MeynMotorGroup his reply makes no sense lol seemed like a glitch.
Yea the level in which everything is ecu controlled is scary but is what it is
bought mine without watching. lets see how I did.
Yea i understand the capabilities of the Explorer is great and it does look the best by far. Enjoy it my friend cool ride
Damn, that's a lot of defects. I bought a lemon Ford, brand new, once. NEVER again.

This car should have had an interior like Raptor.
It aint a lower class than that pickup!
Ford could do better with there stuff sent stuff out with bad transmission ford focus and fiesta automatic is just wrong but hey CEO does not care
No thanks.
