  • Spravato vs. Ketamine Infusion is depression treatment comparison that Dr. Mandel shares his thoughts on. He'll review how the chemical make up of the medicine and route of administration may impact the effectiveness of the nasal spray relative to the intravenous method.
Ketamine Clinics Los Angeles is a world-renowned provider of ketamine for depression, ketamine for treatment resistant depression, and Ketamine Infusion Therapy for the treatment of suicidality, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and chronic pain. KCLA has an 83% success rate treating patients suffering from mood disorders and a 70% success rate treating patients suffering from chronic pain.
Whether you’re seeking anxiety treatments, alternative treatment for bipolar disorder, or treatment for any of the conditions listed above, call 310-270-0625 now for a free phone consultation.

As a patient, I’m steadfast in meticulously researching everything I can about potential treatment options. Largely because educational information has either been unavailable, or (what is, is) delivered in some form of sparsely worded, dumbed-down marketing material. So my researching undergoing a potential spravato treatment led me here. And all I can say is “thank you”! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to go INTO the science involved, as well as the manner in which you expressed your personal opinion, without disregarding the alternative. Your patients are blessed to have you!

At 500 per treatment it’s not feasible. It’s unfortunate it’s so expensive it’s the only thing that I’ve found that works.

My psychiatrist has been talking about Spravato because I have been on every pill, and TMS was an absolute nightmare for me. I also have chronic pain from Lyme disease that is making my depression worse, and I don't feel like I have anything to lose anymore. It sounds like IVs work better, I didn't know that was an option at the Spravato clinics if the nasal spray fails. Thank you for the information. My psychiatrist can't answer questions very well, she just pushes expensive treatments, but my insurance will cover it. They know about anything is cheaper than being inpatient.

The S isomer isn’t as therapeutic as the R or racemic it doesn’t act on all the neurotransmitter that ketamine dose. But also the administration makes a huge deal. Infusion your connected to drug for several hours at a time allowing the drug to actual have time to cause long time beneficial effects. Spravato you take up to twice a week and it is good for depression but it’s really not a long term solution (this coming from a Soravato patient and health professional highly knowledge in the class of drugs ketamine falls under) unfortunately infusion are so expensive. They do have racemic ketamine pills you can get prescribed or compounded for low daily nasal dosages.

So, I have a concern that I am hoping have a little light shed on before beginning treatment. I have an upcoming appointment scheduled for this Monday, that I’m really excited about.
From the research I’ve gathered thus far, I’m feeling very optimistic about giving Spravato a shot. It’s my understanding that it must be taken continuously over time, and the amount of treatments is based on a case by case treatment plan. What I’d really like to know is, how clients with long term usage, have done with Spravato. Those whole have gone into month 10, and then 1 year and beyond. Id like to know if clients are feeling an even baseline of relief over time, where they begin to finally reach a point, where they continue to remain positive that the days of having to struggle just to get through the day can finally feel like there over. I want to hear that, this can be a long term solution that keeps working over time.
Please, anyone that has information on the statistics of the average case study on this, I greatly appreciate your candor examples.

I agree, it should be available at public hospitals. The drug is cheap. It is made expensive because you need to pay an anesthetist and rent premises. That's why it is too expensive for a lot of people. The nasal spray has been made from a derivative by a pharmaceutical company and they are charging a lot for it because they have to get a return from the expensive trials they had to do. As Dr Mandel says It can be given as an intramuscular injection, which means you don't need an anesthetist to set it up. It;s not as good, but it is quite good. I've had both. A nurse can inject it. It should be available free or at low cost if people have a referral from a GP or psychiatrist. Many severely depressed people aren't able to work, so how can they pay for it?

Not necessarily an anesthesiologist, though we understand ketamine better than anyone, but another physician who understands how to use ketamine safely and is medically trained to intervene if there is an adverse event. ER doctors can be very effective. A psychiatrist who works closely with a CRNA can be a great combination. You need one person who knows both mental health AND ketamine or a team of people who can provide complete care when working together. IV infusions are the gold standard, safest, and most effective.

At the time that the manufacturers were in the initial stages of research, it was believed that the S isomer had less of a psychoactive effect than the R isomer, which was considered to be an undesirable effect. However, it is now believed that the psychoactive or dissociative effect is an important aspect of treatment. There is ketamine nasal spray and also "esketamine"/Spravato which is only the "s" isomer. These are two different types of nasal spray.

I just picked up my script. It's ketamine hydrochloride. As nasal spray. I have to call my Dr though bc it just says to take 1-2 sprays in each nostril. Anything I've seen says to take only 2x a week or every other day.

I am taking the compounded ketamine spray. Tonight will be my 4th dose and it is definitely working. However, does this affect cortisol? The first 2 nights I was "thrown" awake in the middle of the night. I felt it was my cortisol levels.

Patenting the S isonemer is how they can make money off a generic ketamine medicine. Strictly business move.

What the doctor is trying to say is that IT IS BAD FOR HIS BUSINESS, he’s probably never even given a dose.

Hi there. Dr. Mandel is an approved provider of Spravato and it is currently offered at Ketamine Clinics of Los Angeles should patients elect this treatment over IV. Patients opt for IV Ketamine Infusion Therapy because it is backed by a substantial amount of research and studies over nearly 20 years. The Ketamine Advocacy Network has an abundance of information regarding the importance of the route of administration which we encourage you to check out!

Ketamine Clinics of Los Angeles Fair enough. Just for the sake of conversation It’s still less lucrative I would imagine. With that being said, as we say in my business (Automotive retail) “profit in not a bad word, the man has a right to make a living for the help he provides. I’m certainly not one of those people who is for some sort of socialized medicine program. When you take money out of medicine you want up getting what you pay for literally and figuratively. Smart people who would wind up going to a great university and becoming phenomenal doctors wind up going into finance and running a hedge fund or something, I want my doctor wealthy/comfortable so he can focus on what he’s doing and be motivated. My “bad for business“ statement was not meant to be pejorative. Anyway, Are you guys affiliated with anyone on in the NY area?
