Oh man, you're a life saver. After reading about tons of people having issues with the autofocus I was super worried about picking up a G7, but you've helped a ton. Thanks a lot!
Came to this video after hearing a few bad comments on the g7 autofocus. However, after seeing the real world footage you gathered with the face detection mode, I'm disregarding those comments. :) Great video, keep it up! - Alec
The G7 will never have the autofocus capability of a canon 70d or similar but with good lighting and a little understanding of how the camera performs, it’s easy to work with.
Hey Jon, great video, I shoot with the G7 but usually when I'm filming myself it's in a controlled environment so I tend to just set up the focus manually first (never really trusted auto focus) but now I know it works pretty well I will give it a go, especially if I'm ever walking and talking. Thanks
MajorWood Studios absolutely! Thanks for watching. I use manual for anything where I can’t risk losing focus for even a second. (Client work or timelapses or while in 4K)
this is probably my 28th video of the G7 that I've watched and its by far the best one, i couldn't make up my mind which camera to buy: canon, nikon, sony and lastly panasonic, but this video did it. Thanks mate for your work! edit: also which lens did you used? the standard 14-42mm?
Hey Jon, very informative video, I have the G7 also and have been playing with what works best; most of my videos are interview style with some vlogging type and have been having trouble with the camera staying on subject and not focusing on the background. I'm going to try face/eye detection and see how it does. Thanks for the info!
Face detection works great especially when you're looking straight at the camera. I think the camera like to see both eyes to know its a face. Something to keep in mind. Thanks for supporting the channel! Good to have you!
Hello friend, one question, do you recommend the Sony a6000 for long streams, I have a little doubt and fear since I do live streams on twitch and they are long maybe 4 or maybe 6 hours and obviously the camera will be connected to a fake battery connected to the electricity all the time, that's why the reason for my fear when streaming I don't know if the camera overheats they told me that the Lumix G7 doesn't overheat in video and I don't know which one to choose I would appreciate it if you gave me your opinion, I hope see your answers, thanks.
@@JonBradleyFilms It might not be as instant as Canon's DPAF, but is it somewhat usable? Looked pretty decent in all your footage, here. Fast enough... right?
great video, hope you can answer the following Q: I'm going to be purchasing the G7 and will only be doing RUclips videos out of my home office along with my Godox SL60W and Godox P60L Softbox. I would like to know if I use the Lumix 25MM F1.7 Camera lens to achieve the Bokeh effect, will I have any issues with AF? Lastly, I will be doing some videos by self and others with a 2nd presenter next to me so will the AF work well using the Lumix 25MM F1.7 Lens as well. Again I'm shooting for a Bokeh style using my 10x12 home office room. Thank you, sir. And yes I became a new Subscriber!!!
Thank you Jon, excellent video! Quick question, is there a way for the G7 to simply focus on the entire scene as opposed to just focusing on an object or person? Old fashioned camcorders were able to do this. My scenario is playing drums where you have too much movement of my face, arms, hands and cymbals, all auto-focus modes I try with G7 keep going out of focus due to all the movement, so it's confusing the camera, I would love to just simply capture the entire scene without having to focus to any area of the scene. I hear that this is the equivalent to getting rid of the blurry background which I don't need but don't know how to disable it in the G7. Thank you, great content by the way, just subscribed!
You remove a blurry background but using a higher number aperture. This is done in manual more or aperture priority. You can also simply turn the camera to manual focus and focus the camera a distance of your choice and it will not change.
Thanks! What mic is that? If the face/eye is the best mode - where should the focus switch be at? The one at the back of the camera (AFS/AFF, AFC, MF). Cheers!
That is the Rode video micro! I keep the focus on AFC. Thanks for watching. I hope I helped you somewhat. The g7 is an almost perfect camera with the only drawback being the not so great autofocus.
Do you think that the rode video micro drains the camera battery faster? I saw a review that said so. I love my AT875R but it needs phantom power which the G7 cannot provide. I'm thinking of the sennheiser Me64 with the k6 module that runs from a single AA battery and this setup is relatively short which is a deal breaker for me when run and gun:ing. About the autofocus. Is the "continuous autofocus" supposed to be switched on in the menu as well for your method to work?
Henriks I seriously have not noticed any battery drain from the mic. It makes sense that it would use more battery but it’s such a negligible amount. I think the two pair nicely. I keep the continuous af setting on in the. Menu as well. Not sure why there are two places on the camera for the same setting.
I just got a G7 and the Autofocus is not that big of an issue to me, but the noise is. There's a LOT of noise in low lighting conditions even at low ISO and Noise Reduction turned all the way up. Does this happen to yours too?
Very informative , thanks man! I've been holding off getting the G7 for the Canon m50 just because of AF , but really didn't have the money , and really wanted the G7 anyway. I'm more of a lumix fan. This helped. And stabilization looks surprisingly good to! That's the kit lens it comes with right? I religiously use Fuji for stills and Lumix for video. Thanks again man . Feel confident now enough to make the decision and get the G7.
I was about to buy a new camera because I really did not like lumix g7's autofocus but I think now I can try to work around it. Thanks so much for the video!
I love this video, keep it happening. Two questions though. 1. what is the cheapest lens I can grab for G7 just for starters? 2. what other brands other than Panasonic and Olympus can I use their lens?
Hussein Kateb cheapest lens? Probably an old film camera lens adapted to the micro four thirds mount. But the kit lens is the best value under 100. IMO. Other brands? The black magic pocket cinema camera uses the same mount. Different animal all together. Thanks for watching!
