About that strawberry tree. Have you considered the neighbors? It going to grow over the fence and it looks like there is a driveway on the other side.
Hey Jeannie, what about planting your grapes in the stock tanks and building a pergola like arbor connecting the three?
Great idea!
I am amazed how much you are planting in your leach field. We were told just to put grass over it
I agree was told the same thing
Have your neighbors commented on how you guys have transformed your property?! It is beautiful! Well done.
Nice plantings!! Your Home landscaping is coming along Great!!
I had to take my strawberry tree out. It is beauitful but so messy. We had it in the corner of my patio and the fruits were so messy when dropping. You need it in wide open area. Your neigbors may not be happy with the mess dropping on their side of the fence let alone on your driveway.
The trees are beautiful, but I agree with Michael... fewer plant varieties and larger swaths of each variety.
You tots need some walking path lights. It totally transforms the garden at night. I would also recommend leaving all the lights the same shade for esthetic purposes. ❤
Planting the strawberry trre so close to your neighbor's yard and the fence is asking for trouble. if it is going to get 20 ft wide you need 20 ft of space for it. The center flower bed would work better for that tree.
I love all your trees! But won't the strawberry tree drop berries (drupes?) in your neighbor's yard?
Hi Janey! I looove redbuds too, it's going to be beautiful. I planted a Carolina Sweetheart Redbud 2 years ago, it's amazing, it has a green with pink and white variegated leaf, You could try it in your 'shade' garden, it doesn't get tall😊
Wow, everything looks fabulous, Jason and Janey! Loving Jason's sense of humor! The trees and lightening are the cherry on top for sure!
I recommend a Flamethrower Redbud. It has so many fall colors - yellow, orange, apricot, green, pink, fuchsia, red, maroon, burgundy, so incredible! It would look so amazing next to the merlot!
Every time I see you and Jason bending over the auger I wish you had the Laura Edition version with the longer auger bit.❤
It might be the same one. I think Laura is pretty short
The trees are stunning! You have accomplished so much in a short period of time.
I am thrilled to see trees going into this space!! It's going to be beautiful. BTW - Monty is such a beautiful boy! I love a garden dog.
WOW! The garden looks amazing it’s beautiful. The trees add so much to the landscape absolutely stunning. 😍
It’s nice you have Jason working with you full time. Question-do you know if the previous owners of your home have ever driven by to see what all you have done? Bet they would be amazed🙌🏻
We also have the Flamethrower and Rising Sun Redbuds. We have learned the hard way that they can be fragile. Jim Putnam has mentioned this fragility about some redbud varieties, and I have seen videos of others who have had this problem. So we are extra careful when working around them.
Trees and boulders make a huge, positive addition to a flat elevation. Your property is such a delight, really enjoy watching it's ongoing transformation! Good Job!
Oh the lights are beautiful!
Your property looks so different from when you moved in!!! It is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! I wish I had a bigger yard to do some of the things you do! I love it!
Thanks to you I have just planted a Redbud Merlot in my garden in Sydney,AUS. I had never heard of this tree before watching your channel. Like you, I love the beautifully coloured heart shaped leaf. So excited to see it grow.
Jill
Sometimes you have a Hoselink with you when you plant your exquisite and expensive trees. And you certainly have good taste in trees ! The dry Californian soil is pulling away any water you trickle into the tree roots. Perhaps methodically give them more water during the first month. "Leaf & Limb" 5 Ways to Spot a Thirsty Tree or Shrub? And what did you do to those that are thriving - from past videos? I get you're just a tad busy x
I absolutely love the trees! What a perfect combination! Just so needed and will be just magical! You two are just knocking it out of the park! I really enjoy watching it all come together with your terrific plans! Be proud of all these accomplishments!
I have a merlot redbud in SoCal zone 10. It’s in a protected area against a fence and a shed, and it’s doing wonderfully! The spring flower buds are so beautiful.
The trees make such a difference! The long border is looking so good! So nice to have the solar lights, and in a power outage they will be handy.
Janey .. remember when you didn’t have the “augers” to dig holes ?? OMG .. could you imagine not have them now. You guys are awesome and very inspiring to all us gardeners. 🌳
That strawberry tree at 25 ft wide will spill over the neighbour’s property just as it will your driveway. The neighbour now might be okay but who knows what the future holds. I would ensure it doesn’t encroach over the fence at maturity. I recall seeing your friend Robbie cried on video about his neighbor tree hanging over the property and insect dropping saps on his plants and in his yard
I’ve had the Hoselink fairy lights ! I use them on my outside table and they have faithfully worked for 5 yrs now!!!!!! I got them as a new house gift! Wonderful! They would b nice on your table too!☀️
The Strawberry Tree will be beautiful! Word on the street is hummingbirds love love love the blooms so your hummers will be very pleased 😊
Well good morning janey jason and of course monty. What a beautiful morning to be out in the garden. One day you're property will be glorious. Monte is such a ham. He makes sure 2 be in as many shots as possible.
He will have a great resume for a dog star. Have a blessed day the Oklahoma gardener.😊
It’s so fun to see what a transformation that those gorgeous trees have made!! How exciting!! And I know that the lights look amazing even if the camera doesn’t 😊
I have a strawberry tree and absolutely love it. The berries are not mess but at the beginning of summer it drops leaves for about a month.
Love learning about new trees. Just designing a new garden space so I'm looking at 8b options. Monty is such a good garden inspector.
Your property is looking so beautiful Janey!!! It's hard to believe it's only been a little over a year for the transformation!!! I can't wait to watch it grow!!! You and Jason are such hard workers and have a wonderful vision for your home❤❤❤❤❤
Wow. What a transformation with the trees in.
P.S. have you seen Garden Answer's "river"
I absolutely love all the Hoselink solar lights that we have. Even in light shade, they light up for most of the night. Worth the price.
Great addition of a variety of trees - love the new lights!
Trees are everything, it’s amazing how much “ Robbie” has grown! The lights actually showed up pretty well I think, we got the idea anyway! Great job. 🇨🇦🍁👏
Trees look great, I’m wondering if you ever finished your kitchen, did I miss the video, thanks love your videos
The lights look incredible ! Every looks perfect !
Oh the spotlights look gorgeous 🥰
I like spotlight on the tree!! It’s warmer and accentuates the trunk.
Love all the tree selections! One thing I’ve learned living in Southern CA is things rarely stay the size on the tag. Our weather is so great that everything grows massive, just something to keep in mind when planting things near neighboring properties. All the marina strawberry trees in my neighborhood look like crap which dissuaded me from getting one, but that could just be the way they were pruned.
The trees look amazing. I love the lights! ❤M
Wonderful Janey 🌺 . These trees are so pretty and the lights near them look amazing and Ican't wait to plant my trees near the new fence stones .
Have a great day .🌺🌻🌺
Nice to add those lights in your property. Thanks Janey
Those trees all look so healthy and not root bound at all!! Wish I had a nursery nearby with such good quality!
Looks like one of the purple fountain grass was struggling, hope it's OK.
You can give Superthrive to your stressed trees. It is like Vitamins & minerals for plants. That is what we did when we planted our stressed trees and they bounced back really well.
Should try filming the trees just before full dark ,the lights will still show but it will be a nice night while still being able to see the effects of the lighting ….maybe I’m totally off the mark in this thought😅
So beautiful ! You need
More lights!😊
I have learned so much from you - Thank you for all your content. I love love love the weeping willow tree. This spring I am going to have to remove a huge pine tree as it is dying. I was going to put in another pine, but now I am leaning towards a weeping willow. I'm going to research if it's a good choice for mid Illinois. Your garden is looking great!
I think you need to add more mulch( Compost) near your tree areas which I normally see Laura doing in Garden Answer.❤
The strawberry tree is gorgeous but are you really sure you want to plant it there? Maybe you don’t mind the mess but your neighbors might. If it grows over the fence onto their side they may not appreciate it. Can’t you plant it somewhere where the mess stays in your yard instead?
Totally agree. It is going to grow way over the fence.
Jenny, keep your neighbors in mind.
Came here to say the same thing 😅. But yay! I love trees! Glad you are getting them in the ground!
Hi all! The neighbor’s side of the fence in that area is just an open field. We purposely didn’t plant it further down where it would encroach on their yard. Thanks for all of your input, we really appreciate all of our commenters!
Knowing that they will eventually get the berry mess, I would think you would consider speaking to the neighbor.
Jason needs one of Laura augers, so he doesn't have to bend over. Love the trees.
Good video... looking great 🎉❤. Love seeing your garden
Can you jackhammer out some of the unnecessary asphalt? It is helping to heat up your property and not allowing moisture to get into the ground when it rains.
Have you considered putting fast growing big shade trees like oaks (easy to get and grow to Sac)for that center island? Just big bang for your buck quicker shade.
I love the solar lighting. I've tried various solar lights, but they never last the night through.. I may have to make the investment in the Hoselink lights. I know Erin the impatient gardener has them and she is in Wisconsin so I figure that here in KY they should last most of the night. The trees are all so beautiful.
They shouldn’t be on all night if you aren’t outside. It is light pollution and confuses pollinators.
There’s actually great ones I’ve had for years now from Lowe’s. Cheaper too!
Jason needs longer auger so he is not having to bend so much. 36" would be great for him.
The warmer the light, the least effect they have on night time pollinators. It would be best to have the setting for all the lights on warm.
You might try backing up your spotlights a bit so more of the tree canopy is lit up.
Maybe take night mode photos and just pop up the photos of each area lit up. When in photo mode the camera will hold the shutter open much longer so the effect will be much easier to see - it's hard for that to happen in video mode. I personally would love to see the photos.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Janey thank you. I have a new baby red bud. But it didn’t have a tag. I was wondering if you have a California Lilac? And what’s your thought on them. Also you say your in 9b is this what the old zone was oh is this the new zone update. I’m still grow to plant like I’m in zone 8. Yes I have been able to winter over somethings but I’m not going to plant 50 Gerber daisies because I winter one over for 2 years. I’m just not going to put that much money into chance.
As the trees mature being so close to the fence will that be harder to get to the fence to replace it?
I love your choices. I could be wrong, but im questioning your decision on placement of the fringe tree so close to the weeping blue atlas cedar.
After thinking about it, you planted a Loropetalum and not an actual chinese fringe tree Chionathus retusus. Whoops!
Beautiful trees they will look great. Did you try the warmer light mode on your espalier?
Morning
So the tree can drop berries on your neighbor's side of the fence.
You all need Laura's tall augers.
Good you will need 88 degrees to plant trees….👍🏼👍🏼
Miley Cypress 😭🤣
Will Monty eat the berries off the strawberry tree ? It may make him sick 🤢
If you know that the strawberry tree is so messy, why would you plant it to encroach your neighbor. I know your friend Robbie complains about how one of is neighbor tree drops dew all over his plants.
What’s all the stained wood on the ground to the left of the garage? New project 👏 ?
What do you mean specifically when you say you are going to baby a tree to help it survive?
What about your neighbors and the mess the trees will cause when they get big?
💖🌸👍🏻🌸💖
Is the strawberry tree a variety of redbud? What people call Strawberry trees in my area are arbutus trees.
Arbutus unedo.
Did u say not to amend the soil?
Does the spot lights interfere with growth on the trees?
I know it looks beautiful. Sorry, but night lighting in the garden is bad for insects.
If the moths are caught in the beam of light there is no escape 😐
Or at least turn them off by 10 or 10:30 PM. The light confuses some pollinators.
What about repeating the same plant?
I have 3strawberry trees and they’re NOT messy at all and it’s going to take years to grow its full size. 😊
