FROM THEIR WEBSITE:
We created the Meta Shell because most rain jackets feel like wearing a trash bag. They are hot, they are crinkly, don’t breathe, wrinkle, look terrible, are uncomfortable to wear, and don't move with your body. Not only that, they only work when it’s cool and raining, so you look ridiculous carrying one around when it may or may not rain. We were tired of having to carry something that didn’t meet our standards, so we completely rethought how a rain jacket was built.
The Meta Shell has been designed from the fiber up to be the best shell for traveling, outdoor activity, and the best everyday jacket on the planet. The Meta Shell is waterproof, stain-proof, stretchy, comfortable, breathable, durable, packable, and versatile - making it the ultimate jacket for travel, outdoors, or everyday! The Meta Shell is packed full of features and meticulously crafted and built to convert from jacket to sling bag at a moment's notice. The world’s most versatile jacket.
But that’s not all. Gone are the days of tying your jacket around your waist, or draping it around your shoulders in case it rains or gets cold. The Meta Shell conveniently packs into its own pocket to become an ultra-portable sling bag. With an exterior waterproof pocket, the Meta Shell replaces both the shell and sling bag for all of your adventures. Designed from the yarn up to feel like wearing a sweatshirt, but perform like a high-performance rain jacket The most versatile jacket for travel, outdoor, and every day. The Jacket, Elevated.
When we set out to create a rain jacket as dynamic as your adventures, we knew we had to start from the fiber up. The Meta Shell uses our advanced, custom 3-Layer Meta Cloth. The 3-layer fabric combines 3 unique layers to redefine the performance of a rain shell.
The outer layer is a dense, 4-way stretch knit polyester, with a matt face. It’s durable while creating a soft and quiet look that stretches in every direction. The interior 4-way stretch polyurethane membrane is bonded to the exterior fabrics. The unique 4-way stretch membrane keeps rain and wind out and allows heat and moisture to escape. Finally, The interior layer is a soft, 4-way stretch polyester jersey built to wick moisture.
Meta Cloth is built to breathe freely, quietly move with the body, and keep you comfortable even in the wettest conditions. The Meta Shell is ready for the broadest temperature ranges and activities. Meta Cloth is Bluesign-approved and vegan for a more sustainable world.

A quiet rain jacket?! Thats a dope feature. I hate being swish swash guy when wearing my current jacket.
Thank you for making this video!
I backed it when it launched on Kickstarter and now I'm happy I did because it looks really good.
I'm already a bit scared about the import fees because I'm in Europe.
Don’t forget who brought you to the dance, Mac.
That’s right… BACKPACKS.
Get to it. 🎒
An Errant Pro sitting in the background waiting for a review it seems :)
The Airloft Hooded Jacket served me very well in the Iceland rain on the one day I forgot to wear my rain jacket over it. Still this looks pretty good. I just backed the project.
I am not sure about the need for converting into a sling bag, though; nowadays most people will already have a sling to contain their pocket items.
Question: will this layer comfortably over the Airloft Hooded Jacket in the same size? Hopefully, it does since the Hooded Jacket will layer over the Shacket ok-ish -aside from a little discomfort in the armholes.
I've had two western rise shirts get holes in them after just two washes. I love the fit but the shirts are way delicate. Pants are great
email us at help@westernrise.com we will most likely replace!
@@willwatters3221 thanks for the info, it was a while ago so I am sure it’s past the acceptable time. But I will try.
I can see how the aesthetic of this jacket could appeal to people, but there are no tests or reviews that identify how it performs in real world situations. For example, how does it perform in heavy rain compared to other rainshells? How good is it at wicking persperation? I wonder why Western Rise doesn't provide basic information such as how much the jacket weighs? I am also concerned that the sling/carrying bag is an extra piece of hardwear that would prove to be more annoying than useful. There is not enough information out there to make me want to buy one of these.
Totally waterproof. Mmmmmmmm
skinny guy! bye reevo handles, miss u!
Hmmm seems like the sleeves are way too short. Anyone have insight on this?
So is it essentially a waterproof softshell like the North Face Apex Flex GTX or the Rab Kinetic plus?
Interesting jacket, that L size seems like a bit short on the sleeves though
sleeves look super short
Chase, I'll take the large off your hands; can drive down from Ft Worth and will buy you lunch!
The airloft jacket works in so many different environments. I understand it’s not waterproof to the degree that this is, but if you own an air loft jacket I question if jt makes sense to own this as well unless you expect to be stuck outside in a downpour often or you spend a lot of time hiking in a rainy environment. Thoughts?
Yea, airloft does a great job with water as well. The airloft can be too much insulation in when it's not as cold. This is great for layering instead of having all in one. I love my airloft so much, and for so many years.
@@chasereeves Very true. My only complaint with the airloft jacket is the amount of static charge after putting it in the dryer to reactivate the DWR coating as recommended by WR. It’s worse than any item I wear. I’ve tried washing the jacket and then hang drying to neutralize the static but it’s the same. WR hasn’t had a good answer for this. It just gets so dirty right after. Have you experienced this? Any thoughts on how to correct it?
What's the weight?
Is the strap removable? It'd be nice to be able to rock without it when I don't need it.
I don't see any way to remove the strap besides cutting... I suppose making them removable would add more elements.
@@chasereeves That's unfortunate. I'd love a jacket just like this but most of the time I'm out walking around I have a dedicated bag (usually for a camera).
Gotta imagine a backpack not only make those straps unnecessary but also extra annoying?
@@TheOnceAndFutureDoug scissors would solve it!
Hi Chase, can I ask how tall you are? Would help deciding between M/L sizes
I'm 5'10" ish. 185ish.
@@chasereeves, 5’10” is 70cm or ~178.5cm. 185” is about 6-6’1”
More importantly is the measurements. Seems like your shoulders fit the large but you seem to like the snug fit.
I’m about your size but broader so I’m concerned if the large is too small for me. I have shorter arms but have broad shoulders and arms. Hmmm….
what's with all the plastic products man
Ok you have alternatives? Name them, please
@@aayotechnology there's plenty that at the very least use recycled polyester. My favorite company right now is Icebreaker - they specialize in soft wool, check em out.
