You can't compare the two with the same adjectives. There is nothing like Pornography for its raw starkness. The new release will likely echo the Disintegration LP. Of course, Pornography doesn't exemplify who The Cure now are, but how could it? Forty-two years have passed, and everything will have changed for every member of that band. I think you could have come up with a more substantive video than this concept of one album dismantling another. The two aren't the same and were never meant to be. They will both be masterpieces.
For decades there is one only trilogy, called the dark trilogy, it begins with 17 Seconds in 1980, then their real masterpiece Faith in 1981 and Closed with Pornographyin 1982..... you can't dissociate this three album, a three years of a painful descent in hell.... it's a real journey.... the listener follows the musical evolution and autodestruction of a band, there is a real stroytelling between this 3 album..... I don't agree with the new statement made in 2002.....
I kinda feel like Faith is more connected to the later albums Disintegration and Bloodflowers even though I think Pornography is the better album. The reason why I say that is because of, not only the sound which was very funereal but Smith listened to the Faith album for the first time in years before doing Disintegration and realized he hadn’t resolved any of the issues he had making that album. And I always felt that Smith had wanted the Faith album to be something more akin to Disintegration and that was why he was unsatisfied with it. As for Bloodflowers? The connection being that There is no if… was actually an old Faith song.
I love this so much. And let’s be honest, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography… has they’re ever been a better three run release of albums by any band?
I've loved Cure forever. I listen to excerpts from all of his work almost weekly. But I confess that I lost my faith after the terrible "4:13 Dream". I won't create expectations, but I hope for the best.
I get it. While I rarely go to that album in its entirety, I do go to these song regularly! The Only One (fun pop song!) The Hungry Ghost (I freaking LOVE this song. Top 20 Cure song for me!) Switch Sleep When I'm Dead (I don’t love this one, but I like it more than I ever thought I would. I can’t myself regularly as a response to people in my life!) It's Over (I don’t love it now as much as I did when I first heard it. But I do come back to this song fairly often I would say.)
There's going to be alot of piano on Songs of A Lost World and it's Robert playing it not Roger. I think that will surprise many. The piano was an important instrument in the Smith household with his dad a pianist so maybe it's Roberts way of reminiscing over family times. So yeah not really similar to Pornography at all so I see your point. The trilogy idea was a marketing exercise at the time anyway I thought.
I just learned that Roger is dealing with his own health issues. With everything else that led to this album, and now Robert playing piano, I think you’re right. It is going to be a very emotional part of this album. Just the piano itself is going to be a character on this entire album!

This is a good theory

Very true. They are back to back. Even Simon called it The Iced Trilogy back in the day.
@@BraxtonWages In France in the 80's we called this musical genre "Coldwave" before it became Goth, for Bauhaus, Siousxie & the banshees, The Cure...
Doubtful. Neither that nor Disintegration. It will definetly be among their finest albums however.

The trilogy will be pornography - beginning Disintegration - middle Songs of a Lost World - end
The Hexalogy
Seventeen Seconds
Faith
Pornography

Bloodflowers
Songs Of A Lost World
Impossible!
Long and short answer
NO
this is a shite theory
🤷🏼
I mean, I’m not doggy on Pornography. I just think that Songs of the Lost World is going to be more complete “dark trilogy. …”
