I think Stain’s philosophy was more like you’re not a real hero if you only do it for money and fame, but he still took it to far by murdering and crippling heroes.
It’s like you understand his motives but it does not justify his actions I mean he was correct on some level I mean look at Endeavour before he decided to get his act together.
Actually most heroes did not do it for just money & fame.... They actually wanted to help people.... Stains philosophy is odd because he killed anyone that got paid for being a hero

I feel like Stain was designed to be written couple ways 1. A guy who targets corrupt heroes, but do to Horikoshi still being a relatively novice writer just messed up 2. A guy who targets corrupt heroes but doesn’t really know who is or isn’t corrupt so he targets people he deems corrupt with the little knowledge he has 3. He is just an insane guy that kills people but justifies it to himself as killing corrupt heroes 4. I think this is the most likely judging from the Vigilante series and Stendhal. Stain once upon a time targeted corrupt heroes but similar to the reason why batman refuses to kill anyone, it became easier and easier for him to do so over what would be considered lesser crimes. For example Once a hero may be deemed a fake because his actions directly led to the death of innocent bystanders, later a hero is deemed a fake because when responding to a scene the villain killed someone therefore failing their duty. As for why Iida is considered a fake is because he gave into the desire for revenge making him flawed there for a fake. Inevitably the point is while Stain is right about there being Fake Heroes in society he is still an insane man who uses his circumstances to do what he wants. He is honestly no different from Toga in that sense
He never had anything to do with corruption, only with his fsnatism. That corruption thing is a fanon thing people invented to try and turn the guy who tried to kill literal children in an alley into a paragon of some sorts. Corruption does appear in the series, but Stain had nothing to do with it and the ones fighting against it were still the good guys and the Hero Comision
He might've had a better leg to stand on if he actually killed and exposed corrupt heroes. (Spoilers if you don't read it) Like Lady nagant who did dirty jobs, taking dirty money, and killing when crimes have not been committed yet. But even then, it was really work that needed to be done. Lady nagant was a hero in her own way.

But from what we've seen every hero in mh are complete saints that also want to make a living helping/saving others with their gifts
Yeah Stain was one of those villains where you bought into the hype because of his introduction but the moment you stop and think about it he was just crazy, which maybe that was supposed to be the point. I always said Stain's philosophy never made sense in MHA considering that his two known victims to the audience were glorified civil servants and one found meaning in the job because it gave kids hope. Stain's character would've made more sense in a Series like OPM or "I quit being a hero long ago", because in those series most of the heros were only in it for the fame even going so far as to keep newbie heros down and even faking crimes for publicity.

I think his main motivation for his mentality was on a smaller scale because in a way what he's saying trickles down to all facets of life, school, work, interactions with people. People be fake but he went too far in terms of acknowledging it and wanting to do something about it. He figured fear would allow people to be more genuine about what their doing, if they wanna be villains or if they wanna be celebrities. In a way kinda like if he were to say "if you wanna be famous if you want power do that but don't call yourself a hero because people including me are counting on you guys" ofc some had to fall that weren't part of that demographic but at the same time it makes you think damn the good ones went down so I gotta be extra good. Anybody can get it. I agree w yall bout him being more plausible in OPM but I feel like if mha gave him more screentime we would have the same insight we have after seeing shigaraki story. Low-key, stain fighting for the ones like shigaraki, someone who needed help but didn't get it just cause there's "bigger things going on". Anyone coulda been a hero and saved him, shigaraki said so himself, but no one did because everyone going after image, going after the money, going after the glory. Even tho all might makes his money, he was already spending every minute he could doing absolutely anything at all, yea he saved Hella people and did Hella great stuff, but it was his methodology behind it, the I'm gonna save everybody even if it puts me down mentality. And then you got heroes like Endeavor pre season 4/5, mount lady in some cases, and even some of the students like mina, mineta, Kaminari, I would like to argue even for some time bakugo or shoto, they are not the same as all might, kamui woods and students like deku, kirishima, uraraka and with the exception of the stain arc, Ida. They all are of the hero course, but there are differences. Stain wanted to reduce those differences in the same demographic by fear Kinda like if I said ima kill as many businessmen if I can cuz all of them are selfish and inconsiderate and I go after some. Not all business men are evil, but there are some at the top who would step on those under him to get there and those who are willing to take all the hits and be rewarded for their drive and will to serve Just my two cents I honestly love these kinds of discussions shout out to classic
I put Stain into the same category as characters like Onomatopoeia. Sure their philosophy is different but they're characters who just ruin the lives of people who're just trying to do good. SADISTICALLY. WITH KNIVES. Personally those are my least favorite types of villains because some people say they're perfectly written but I say it's just villains who only make you hate them and overstay their welcome.
One bit that baffles me is that he has no problem murdering teenagers who try playing hero. Nevermind the fact they're still learning how to BE heroes. His whole philosophy is just an excuse to torture and kill people he doesn't like.

"Learning to be Heroes" would definitely put them on his hit list. Stain hates "Heroes" as an institution. And how were the heroes learning? From "The poisoned and corrupt institution" in his mind. It is an ideology that exist today in the Modern world were people actually subscribe to it. Where a corrupt an institution has to ripped out by the roots.
Stain just gave an excuse for villains to do crazy shit like Dabi, my man really just used it as an excuse to get his fathers head on a plate even though he saw him grew as a person but he became more deranged because now his father got his redemption and because of it he doesn't have any purpose anymore, he just uses Stains "philosophy" as an excuse to kill him🙄.
At first I kinda understood stains physiology but I also understood it was flawed. Uraraka said she wanted to become a hero to make money so her parents could live a easier life and according to Stain, heroes who are heroes for fame and money are fake and corrupted. If Stain met Uraraka, he would have killed her for being a 'fake' hero. Sure Uraraka is a hero for the money but it's not for her, she is a hero for a bad reason with good intentions. The difference between Stain and Dabi is that Stain believes there are good heroes while Dabi, who was actually Touya Todoroki, was abused and used by his father, Endeavor, who was a hero. He believes he is a fake and the other hero's are fake. In my opinion, Stain and Dabi could have been written better if they were both vigilantes, morally grey between the heroes and villains.

Only in the game and glory aspect since that is what the show is. The corruption angle would be like a second thing indirectly because Stain never cares about corruption as what many believe. Just that héroes shouldn't be anything but altruistic and even then not being fully commited to that idea because people that were altruistic were attacked by him because they weren't All Might

To be honest, I'd say all heroes would be immune. As bad as less than morally sound heroes like Endeavour, Mount Lady and Bakugou are, they do still care about being a hero and tend to put any issues they have aside when carrying out missions. The only hero I can think of truly using their fame for profit is Uwabami because she took on Momo and Itsuka as interns solely to star in adverts for her products. Also I feel it's a bit extreme putting Bakugou down to be killed when he's still just a teenager. Edit: Just adding this on but if Stain did only kill heroes in it for money and fame, wouldn't that mean he'd try targeting Uraraka cuz she's admitted to wanting to be a hero to get money for her family?

Hell, even Deku says later on when he's talking to Shigaraki that while he finds what Stain does unforgivable that he at least *understands* it. She's in it for the money! She said so herself! If the hero work didn't pay, she would never have become a hero! The character that's likely to end up with the main character *is not a true hero by the logic of the show if what you are saying is true.* The logic fails at the jump. "If you do your job for anything other than to help people, you are morally bankrupt/a bad person" and that's just false. We'd have far less doctors in the world, as addressed in this video, if it didn't *pay well.* Cause it is an emotionally and mentally taxing job that many people wouldn't want to do without a good reason. Same for hero work. Stain couldn't even stick to his own morals, he gave up the moment he felt he was in danger. Killing for the sake of killing, not justice.

And there’s a very clear difference between someone like Uraraka wanting money to provide for her family and heroes just being heroes for fame and greed. You know that.

He tried to kill Deku and Todo *actively* one of which he found worthy and didn't want to kill, but abandoned his philosophy for the sake of not being jailed. My understanding of Stain's philosophy is that to be a true hero is to be a selfless person doing it solely for the sake of helping others. During the fight Deku solely was focused on getting his friends out, not beating Stain, holding a grudge, or trying to inact revenge like Ida was. Deku strictly was trying to just save lives just like All Might. Even in All Might's case, yes he is indirectly getting money by being a teacher, having merch and all that but he is genuinely trying to make the world a better place and is an idol of society that people should look towards. Many other heroes are just doing it because it's a job, or they feel they can't do anything else or pay bills, so that does in fact lose the noble aspect of it. Like for your doctor analogy, yes they can be considered heroes and save lives but you will receive DRAMATICALLY different treatment from a doctor who is in it specifically to try to help people get to better health, than a doctor who will subscribe medicine, tests and treatments specifically because that doctor can make a profit off of it and keep you coming back again and again or even worse, downplay your symptoms and not listen to their patient because that doctor is checked out of their job and just going through the motions. Those kinds of people are who Stain is going after and of course him going to the extent of killing them is too far, and is also the point of his character. Stain is an extremist that does have a point, but has used that fair argument to cover up all of his wrongdoings for the sake of that valid point, which makes him a hypocrite, just like the fake heroes he is going after who have selfish motives but try to wash it away by calling themselves heroes.
The biggest criticism against stain is that he Cripples Iidas brother who WAS a true hero. And yet doesn't recognize all might when he meets him in the manga.
Now that you mention it, I think Stains hypocrisy comes off a bit less acceptable for the reader, than the author may have wanted. I get what he was going for- heroes shouldn’t save peoples lives like it’s delivering food or something. There shouldn’t be a price tag on human beings. But I don’t think most of the heroes in the story are like that….at least it’s not shown often enough. Idk But I’m 100% with you on the Shigaraki thing. How is a guy with over sized eyebrows or an extra ear going to stop someone on All For Ones level? Without extra quirks being shoved into them or steroid drugs? It AINT happening. Plus what about characters like Uraraka who are in it for the money but that's because she's desperately trying to support her family? Having Stain meet Uraraka would've been a genuinely good story telling moment that puts his ideals at a crossroad and forces them to be examined....
In theory, Stain should have been the kind of guy to go only after corrupt pro-heroes, however because of how heroes are embedded in MHA's society in general, his list of potential targets ends being larger than the USA's national debt: - If you became a hero because it is a well-paying job, you're on his list - If you became a hero and as a result did a bunch of sponsored advertising, you're on his list - If you became a hero because you wanted fame and glory, you are on his list - If you became a hero just because it was a family tradition, you would be on his list The first category alone would put Uraraka and probably 40% of all the licensed heroes running around in his sights. He appears even more psychotic because most MHA heroes are decent people, plus not even Bakugou or Endeavour are on the same level as 80% of Vought's "heroes", especially Homelander (The Boys) As for Ida, it's important to remember that Stain believes the top priority of a hero is to save others, yet Ida was so focused on getting revenge that he forgot that Mr. Native was there and bleeding out. If Iida had turned tail and focused on getting Native out, Stain may have given him a pass but Iida understandably did not want to take the risk.
Stain: you could have saved them all but you only saved a few! Hero: I literally saved as many lives as I could even with speed healing in afraid I still had broken feet and i kept breaking them every time I ran to save someone so sooooooorry for save 26 people and not being able to save the remaining 14.
To all those saying that Iida should have run away with Native (the injured hero), keep in mind, Stain beat Iida's older brother, who was, mind you, stronger, faster and more experienced than Iida, so he probably thought that, if he tried to run away, Stain would have easily caught up to and killed him because he is simply not enough to escape, especially while lugging around an injured, unconscious grown man.
But Iida's brother wasn't trying to run away, he was fighting Stain. I'm not tryingto disagree with you, I'm just pointing out that if Iida had picked up Native and ran away, he would've been able to put a huge distance between him and Stain in a matter of seconds, considering how fast we've seen him move.
His philosophy makes perfect sense, a vast majority of the "Heros" in that universe are just brands. Basically a family friendlier version of The Boys, where they have a public persona that is their brands. Look back a the first episode, the wood ninja guy got mad at MT Lady for stealing his glory. Then you had "Heros" who would just stand there and watch a kid get murder because they wouldn't be a good match against the Slime man. Someone was in need and they said nah fam, that is too hard. Going to the entrance exams, the 0 point robot everyone ran from because it wasn't worth any merit. Imagen if the justice league or the avengers let a giant robot destroy a city because they wouldn't get any money or fame out of stopping it. Or spiderman not stopping a mugging because the battery on his camera was dead and so he couldn't take a picture. Stain is just going all punisher on the people who he deemed as fake heroes. It is fair to say you don't like his methods or some of this targets.

Maybe because he seen him as being a hero out of family obligation and not the desire to help other? Or maybe he crippled him so he could escape? Or maybe it was Ida's brother had the personality to be a hero, but lack the strength to do it? Or he attacks heroes and then judges them after the fact? We don't get a motivation for targeting certain heroes so it possible to point out someone who might not fit. His philosophy made sense considering how many heroes are willing to let other people get hurt or die to protect their brands. Or how many are willing to give up because it got hard. Let's not forget how many from the Liberation Army. Never argue his philosophy was perfect. Realistically he probably crippled Ida's brother for plot reasons. To force a meeting between Stain and Deku so he could be labeled a true hero like All Might.
@@ExodaCrown That's precisely my point though we're not given much actual reason for his specific targets beyond his vaguely applied philosophy with little context surrounding what his targets did to merit being targeted by him. It makes his world view seem horrendously flawed and is just confusing because there isn't a very clear reasoning behind his actions. It's just there for plot convenience to get the story from point A to point B. Imagine if we saw a story where Batman is beating up people and he talks about how he doesn't kill and he hates guns, but it also doesn't explain why nor does it explain what the people he's beating up did to deserve it. We the readers would be confused. And that's just where he is badly written from a logical standpoint. From a storytelling standpoint they also really dropped the ball. Uraraka would've been so much better than Midoriya for that arc.
And Ingenium is definitely a good hero, especially after what we saw in Vigilantes. But I do think that Stain suffers from a good base ideal taken to such an extreme that it becomes bad. It also makes sense after you see that he was a freaking assassin vigilante in Vigilantes. Guy never had his head screwed on straight.
The funny thing, Stain's moral's and idea's could have made more sense, if not for the fact that he did this for the sake of "You get paid". If anything, he should have had as motivation that there's heroes that only focus on their own well being, and would risk the lives of civilians to not get killed themself. And how to show it, in the second episode. Show that there was a hero in the crowd who could have helped the fight, but just ran away in fear of the fire and getting hurt. And then, once his story comes up, we can also have it shown that a hero chose to run from danger instead of saving a helpless civilian, and later claimed that he couldn't help. Give him more of a reason to hate heroes other than "They get paid. I don't like that"

What do you do if you're a walking fire hydrant, YOU PUT OUT FIRES. Fighting bad guys is not the main duty of a hero. It is to help and save people. If that's not the main reason you're doing the job, you're in the wrong business. Ida didn't come to that alley for justice. He came for vengeance. When Izuku and Todoroki went to that alley, they spent the entire fight protecting everyone else. They wanted to just run away with the victims but knew they couldn't so they chose to fight instead.

I actually understand not seeing Ida as a true hero because he was driven by a very personal goal rather than being driven to protect others, he wasn't hunting down Stain because he was a threat to others, he hunted him because he wanted to kill him for hurting his brother.

Nothing in HeroAca holds up if you think about it. Spinner is a villain because he was discriminated against for his looks but everyone is cool with Shoji somehow.
Stain's frustrations with the current status quo make sense, but they don't excuse him being an edgy 90's villain. Not to mention that his ability to strike down the wicked is very limited.
While I'm on the Stain slander train, dude does not take care of his katakana. It's his primary weapon and it looks like it's about to fall apart. Also, he's pretty week. I'm not slandering slandering him for "cowardly" tactics like ambushing lone heroes. He's an assassin, that's what they do. (I personally respect that fighting stile, work smarter not harder.) I'm saying he got his ass kicked by 3 kids who aren't even threw their first year of hero training. I know he's a duelist assassin type, but these are literal armatures. And he's week against anyone with a defensive quirk, what's he gonna do against Kirishima, Tetsutetsu, Fat Gum or that bubble yakusa guy if he misses his first attack?
@@steam732 One of those strongest quirk users only just figured out how to use sed quirk with out destroying his body. That's like lousing a drag race to some one who only just got their license. And the other was literally only using half of his power up until the end. and that was primarily narrative reasons. Stane needed to have burns so Endever could take credit.

Deku himself has also been established to be far more battle hardened and tactically smart than most pro heroes. He literally found out everything about stains quirk with just seeing it in action a few times. Also do not know what you meant by that last sentence. Since I don’t think they ever established that as a plot point.

Endeavor was there, the police said they could sweep this all under the rug and forget about it if endeavor got the credit and not the kids. Decu's tactically smart yes. But battle hardened? This was his first real battle.
It's a very specific justice, and that's why it's antagonistic. Most morals and creeds have a wide birth and sense of leniency and nuance, which provides for debate and gateways for people to steadily find purchase in it. Stain's is set in stone, ironclad, and by the letter, so nobody could possibly adhere to it or follow it without stumbling into it or out of it without knowing it. His ideals are set like walking a tightrope, but with no net and occasional stretches of the rope itself are wrapped in barbwire. Even the people that say they understand and follow don't actually follow what he keeps saying. First the concept of a hero is purely someone with a quirk. Limited, but understandable as "hero" is a literal job title in the universe. While medical staff and first responders are heroes in the sense they do good things that help people, they aren't Heroes by a job title, so they don't count. Those kinds of people took up their charges by studying, actively choosing that life. Second, Heroes have to do things entirely unmotivated by their desires, EXCEPT the desire to help. No money, no gratification, no weighing options. A hero just does what's right because it's right, and they fly in blindly--but at the same time, they do it with consideration and kindness. A near contradiction that again would be impossible to do intentionally. However, if money, fame, or whatever else is thrust upon a hero, that's also okay since the hero is not actively wanting it.

He doesn't like iida because he went to kill stain out of revenge, not Because he wanted to help native, or for the sake of any of the other heros. If you look at the prequel manga, we get a slightly better look at the fact that Stain is actually a mental case. On top of that, prior to his hero killing days he was a Punisher style vigilante, but so over the top that minor infractions were irredeemable. And when the MC of the manga tries to do the right thing and protect someone from Stain, Stain tells him that those who protect evil are also evil, and evil must be killed. I could be misremembering stuff. I just wanted to add that.

Ida couldn’t drop a vendetta he had against Stain for injuring his brother when they fought. That’s why Ida wasn’t considered a true hero in Stain’s eyes. Stain considered his idea of heroes being “pure of heart” and. it controlled my profit, fame, or emotions. Stain is smart had a genuine ideology, but went about it the wrong way. The reason most find Stain confusing is because he’s ironic. Stains Ideology could’ve worked considering there’s other ways of making money as a hero rather than saving people. Stain just didn’t want heroes only saving people just to get paid.

Stains beef is with people who parade in the light of heros with no serious intent to save them. I dont agree, but i do get it. It's not that they get paid. Stain hates that half the heroes in the industry do it for fame. Getting paid is one thing, but you should be a hero for the right reasons instead of having that be the reason you're a hero. So we ends up doing research and then killing the heroes that are not righteous.
Think of it this way. Heroes being paid means they now can put their all into saving people. They don't have to worry about their own income, don't have to have a second job, leaving more time and energy for protecting people. Heroes getting paid means they don't ahve to weigh up saving someone vs potential medical bills and lost hours. Critically though, from a practical standpoint, who cares? If getting a guaranteed income means more people willing and able to save others, what does it matter if someone is a "true hero". The person who gets pulled out of a collapsed building isn't gonna throw a tantrum that the hero is getting paid to do so, they aren't gonna demand they be put back until a real hero comes, they're gonna be thankful that they got pulled out. Stain's philosophy puts impossibly high morals over common sense, and in doing so he becomes a serial killer for people who just wanted to be compensated for risking their lives. Soldiers, police officers, doctors, firefighters, they all get paid to help people, but according to Stain they aren't heroes and should be all killed. Yeah see how well things go if that happens, I dare you. End of the day, if I call for help, I'd rather have as much chance of someone being there and able to help as possible. I don't give two shits if they get a paycheck at the end of the day. And before anyone talks about him killing corrupt heroes, the Meta Liberation Army, a literal terrorist organisation, was fomenting under Stain's watch and he did nothing about it. Even without their integration with the League, how many people would have died from this organisation's eventual attacks? YOu can ramble about good causes all you want but all it takes is one prick who just wants an excuse to run wild and boom, a hospital or a school gets blown up in the crossfire. Stain did NOTHING to the MLA. He is beyond useless.
@@sptflcrw8583 Garou actually had an interesting arc and motivation that tied him to multiple characters; he had major impacts on the course of the story in a way that felt dynamic and satisfying. Stain is literally just plot fuel. He comes in, spews some flawed rhetoric that isn't questioned by the narrative, and through pure coincidence ends up sending Shigaraki a couple goons. They're both hero hunters, but Garou as a character is leagues above anywhere Stain could ever hope to be.
This guy Attacks Iida's brother because he became a hero to follow in the footsteps of his heroic parents. Doesn't matter that Ingenium saved people, doesn't matter that he's a nice guy, nope he didn't become a hero because of "JUSTICE/HOPE" so he's evil and corrupt. It's definitely not that Stain is just a all might fanboy and what he claims is his motivation is just him making excuses.

I feel like Stain was designed to be written couple ways
1. A guy who targets corrupt heroes, but do to Horikoshi still being a relatively novice writer just messed up
2. A guy who targets corrupt heroes but doesn’t really know who is or isn’t corrupt so he targets people he deems corrupt with the little knowledge he has
3. He is just an insane guy that kills people but justifies it to himself as killing corrupt heroes
4. I think this is the most likely judging from the Vigilante series and Stendhal. Stain once upon a time targeted corrupt heroes but similar to the reason why batman refuses to kill anyone, it became easier and easier for him to do so over what would be considered lesser crimes. For example Once a hero may be deemed a fake because his actions directly led to the death of innocent bystanders, later a hero is deemed a fake because when responding to a scene the villain killed someone therefore failing their duty.
As for why Iida is considered a fake is because he gave into the desire for revenge making him flawed there for a fake.
Inevitably the point is while Stain is right about there being Fake Heroes in society he is still an insane man who uses his circumstances to do what he wants. He is honestly no different from Toga in that sense

He never had anything to do with corruption, only with his fsnatism. That corruption thing is a fanon thing people invented to try and turn the guy who tried to kill literal children in an alley into a paragon of some sorts. Corruption does appear in the series, but Stain had nothing to do with it and the ones fighting against it were still the good guys and the Hero Comision

Yeah Stain was one of those villains where you bought into the hype because of his introduction but the moment you stop and think about it he was just crazy, which maybe that was supposed to be the point. I always said Stain's philosophy never made sense in MHA considering that his two known victims to the audience were glorified civil servants and one found meaning in the job because it gave kids hope. Stain's character would've made more sense in a Series like OPM or "I quit being a hero long ago", because in those series most of the heros were only in it for the fame even going so far as to keep newbie heros down and even faking crimes for publicity.

I think his main motivation for his mentality was on a smaller scale because in a way what he's saying trickles down to all facets of life, school, work, interactions with people. People be fake but he went too far in terms of acknowledging it and wanting to do something about it. He figured fear would allow people to be more genuine about what their doing, if they wanna be villains or if they wanna be celebrities. In a way kinda like if he were to say "if you wanna be famous if you want power do that but don't call yourself a hero because people including me are counting on you guys" ofc some had to fall that weren't part of that demographic but at the same time it makes you think damn the good ones went down so I gotta be extra good. Anybody can get it. I agree w yall bout him being more plausible in OPM but I feel like if mha gave him more screentime we would have the same insight we have after seeing shigaraki story. Low-key, stain fighting for the ones like shigaraki, someone who needed help but didn't get it just cause there's "bigger things going on". Anyone coulda been a hero and saved him, shigaraki said so himself, but no one did because everyone going after image, going after the money, going after the glory. They all are of the hero course, but there are differences. Stain wanted to reduce those differences in the same demographic by fear

At first I kinda understood stains physiology but I also understood it was flawed. Uraraka said she wanted to become a hero to make money so her parents could live a easier life and according to Stain, heroes who are heroes for fame and money are fake and corrupted. If Stain met Uraraka, he would have killed her for being a 'fake' hero. Sure Uraraka is a hero for the money but it's not for her, she is a hero for a bad reason with good intentions.
The difference between Stain and Dabi is that Stain believes there are good heroes while Dabi, who was actually Touya Todoroki, was abused and used by his father, Endeavor, who was a hero. He believes he is a fake and the other hero's are fake.
In my opinion, Stain and Dabi could have been written better if they were both vigilantes, morally grey between the heroes and villains.

To be honest, I'd say all heroes would be immune. As bad as less than morally sound heroes like Endeavour, Mount Lady and Bakugou are, they do still care about being a hero and tend to put any issues they have aside when carrying out missions. The only hero I can think of truly using their fame for profit is Uwabami because she took on Momo and Itsuka as interns solely to star in adverts for her products.
Also I feel it's a bit extreme putting Bakugou down to be killed when he's still just a teenager.
Edit: Just adding this on but if Stain did only kill heroes in it for money and fame, wouldn't that mean he'd try targeting Uraraka cuz she's admitted to wanting to be a hero to get money for her family?

My understanding of Stain's philosophy is that to be a true hero is to be a selfless person doing it solely for the sake of helping others. During the fight Deku solely was focused on getting his friends out, not beating Stain, holding a grudge, or trying to inact revenge like Ida was. Deku strictly was trying to just save lives just like All Might. Even in All Might's case, yes he is indirectly getting money by being a teacher, having merch and all that but he is genuinely trying to make the world a better place and is an idol of society that people should look towards. Many other heroes are just doing it because it's a job, or they feel they can't do anything else or pay bills, so that does in fact lose the noble aspect of it. Like for your doctor analogy, yes they can be considered heroes and save lives but you will receive DRAMATICALLY different treatment from a doctor who is in it specifically to try to help people get to better health, than a doctor who will subscribe medicine, tests and treatments specifically because that doctor can make a profit off of it and keep you coming back again and again or even worse, downplay your symptoms and not listen to their patient because that doctor is checked out of their job and just going through the motions.
Those kinds of people are who Stain is going after and of course him going to the extent of killing them is too far, and is also the point of his character. Stain is an extremist that does have a point, but has used that fair argument to cover up all of his wrongdoings for the sake of that valid point, which makes him a hypocrite, just like the fake heroes he is going after who have selfish motives but try to wash it away by calling themselves heroes.
The biggest criticism against stain is that he Cripples Iidas brother who WAS a true hero. And yet doesn't recognize all might when he meets him in the manga.

I get what he was going for- heroes shouldn’t save peoples lives like it’s delivering food or something. There shouldn’t be a price tag on human beings. Having Stain meet Uraraka would've been a genuinely good story telling moment that puts his ideals at a crossroad and forces them to be examined....
In theory, Stain should have been the kind of guy to go only after corrupt pro-heroes, however because of how heroes are embedded in MHA's society in general, his list of potential targets ends being larger than the USA's national debt:
- If you became a hero because it is a well-paying job, you're on his list
- If you became a hero and as a result did a bunch of sponsored advertising, you're on his list
- If you became a hero because you wanted fame and glory, you are on his list
- If you became a hero just because it was a family tradition, you would be on his list
The first category alone would put Uraraka and probably 40% of all the licensed heroes running around in his sights. He appears even more psychotic because most MHA heroes are decent people, plus not even Bakugou or Endeavour are on the same level as 80% of Vought's "heroes", especially Homelander (The Boys)
As for Ida, it's important to remember that Stain believes the top priority of a hero is to save others, yet Ida was so focused on getting revenge that he forgot that Mr. Native was there and bleeding out. If Iida had turned tail and focused on getting Native out, Stain may have given him a pass but Iida understandably did not want to take the risk.
Stain: you could have saved them all but you only saved a few!
Hero: I literally saved as many lives as I could even with speed healing in afraid I still had broken feet and i kept breaking them every time I ran to save someone so sooooooorry for save 26 people and not being able to save the remaining 14.
To all those saying that Iida should have run away with Native (the injured hero), keep in mind, Stain beat Iida's older brother, who was, mind you, stronger, faster and more experienced than Iida, so he probably thought that, if he tried to run away, Stain would have easily caught up to and killed him because he is simply not enough to escape, especially while lugging around an injured, unconscious grown man.
But Iida's brother wasn't trying to run away, he was fighting Stain.
I'm not tryingto disagree with you, I'm just pointing out that if Iida had picked up Native and ran away, he would've been able to put a huge distance between him and Stain in a matter of seconds, considering how fast we've seen him move.
There is no possible way Iida's brother was faster then Iida with just one exhaust port on each elbow

His philosophy makes perfect sense, a vast majority of the "Heros" in that universe are just brands. Basically a family friendlier version of The Boys, where they have a public persona that is their brands. Look back a the first episode, the wood ninja guy got mad at MT Lady for stealing his glory. Then you had "Heros" who would just stand there and watch a kid get murder because they wouldn't be a good match against the Slime man. Someone was in need and they said nah fam, that is too hard. Going to the entrance exams, the 0 point robot everyone ran from because it wasn't worth any merit. Imagen if the justice league or the avengers let a giant robot destroy a city because they wouldn't get any money or fame out of stopping it. Or spiderman not stopping a mugging because the battery on his camera was dead and so he couldn't take a picture. Stain is just going all punisher on the people who he deemed as fake heroes. It is fair to say you don't like his methods or some of this targets.

@@CollinMcLean Hard to speculate with Ida's brother since it was never stated why he was targeted. Maybe he crippled him instead of killing him because he thought he had some heroic traits? Maybe because he seen him as being a hero out of family obligation and not the desire to help other? Or maybe he crippled him so he could escape? Or maybe it was Ida's brother had the personality to be a hero, but lack the strength to do it? Or he attacks heroes and then judges them after the fact?
We don't get a motivation for targeting certain heroes so it possible to point out someone who might not fit. His philosophy made sense considering how many heroes are willing to let other people get hurt or die to protect their brands. Or how many are willing to give up because it got hard. Let's not forget how many from the Liberation Army.
Never argue his philosophy was perfect. Realistically he probably crippled Ida's brother for plot reasons. To force a meeting between Stain and Deku so he could be labeled a true hero like All Might.
@@ExodaCrown That's precisely my point though we're not given much actual reason for his specific targets beyond his vaguely applied philosophy with little context surrounding what his targets did to merit being targeted by him. It makes his world view seem horrendously flawed and is just confusing because there isn't a very clear reasoning behind his actions. It's just there for plot convenience to get the story from point A to point B.
Imagine if we saw a story where Batman is beating up people and he talks about how he doesn't kill and he hates guns, but it also doesn't explain why nor does it explain what the people he's beating up did to deserve it. We the readers would be confused.
And that's just where he is badly written from a logical standpoint.
From a storytelling standpoint they also really dropped the ball. Uraraka would've been so much better than Midoriya for that arc.
And Ingenium is definitely a good hero, especially after what we saw in Vigilantes.
But I do think that Stain suffers from a good base ideal taken to such an extreme that it becomes bad. It also makes sense after you see that he was a freaking assassin vigilante in Vigilantes. Guy never had his head screwed on straight.

The funny thing, Stain's moral's and idea's could have made more sense, if not for the fact that he did this for the sake of "You get paid". If anything, he should have had as motivation that there's heroes that only focus on their own well being, and would risk the lives of civilians to not get killed themself. And how to show it, in the second episode. Show that there was a hero in the crowd who could have helped the fight, but just ran away in fear of the fire and getting hurt. And then, once his story comes up, we can also have it shown that a hero chose to run from danger instead of saving a helpless civilian, and later claimed that he couldn't help. Give him more of a reason to hate heroes other than "They get paid. I don't like that"

Ida didn't come to that alley for justice. He came for vengeance. When Izuku and Todoroki went to that alley, they spent the entire fight protecting everyone else. They wanted to just run away with the victims but knew they couldn't so they chose to fight instead.

Stain's frustrations with the current status quo make sense, but they don't excuse him being an edgy 90's villain. Not to mention that his ability to strike down the wicked is very limited.
While I'm on the Stain slander train, dude does not take care of his katakana. It's his primary weapon and it looks like it's about to fall apart.
Also, he's pretty week. I'm not slandering slandering him for "cowardly" tactics like ambushing lone heroes. He's an assassin, that's what they do. (I personally respect that fighting stile, work smarter not harder.) I'm saying he got his ass kicked by 3 kids who aren't even threw their first year of hero training. I know he's a duelist assassin type, but these are literal armatures. And he's week against anyone with a defensive quirk, what's he gonna do against Kirishima, Tetsutetsu, Fat Gum or that bubble yakusa guy if he misses his first attack?
To be fair those three amateurs happen to have two of the strongest quirks in the series. The other having potentially the fastest one too.

And the other was literally only using half of his power up until the end. and that was primarily narrative reasons. Stane needed to have burns so Endever could take credit.

Deku himself has also been established to be far more battle hardened and tactically smart than most pro heroes. He literally found out everything about stains quirk with just seeing it in action a few times.

It's a very specific justice, and that's why it's antagonistic. Most morals and creeds have a wide birth and sense of leniency and nuance, which provides for debate and gateways for people to steadily find purchase in it. Stain's is set in stone, ironclad, and by the letter, so nobody could possibly adhere to it or follow it without stumbling into it or out of it without knowing it. His ideals are set like walking a tightrope, but with no net and occasional stretches of the rope itself are wrapped in barbwire. Even the people that say they understand and follow don't actually follow what he keeps saying.
First the concept of a hero is purely someone with a quirk. Limited, but understandable as "hero" is a literal job title in the universe. While medical staff and first responders are heroes in the sense they do good things that help people, they aren't Heroes by a job title, so they don't count. Those kinds of people took up their charges by studying, actively choosing that life.
Second, Heroes have to do things entirely unmotivated by their desires, EXCEPT the desire to help. No money, no gratification, no weighing options. A hero just does what's right because it's right, and they fly in blindly--but at the same time, they do it with consideration and kindness. A near contradiction that again would be impossible to do intentionally. However, if money, fame, or whatever else is thrust upon a hero, that's also okay since the hero is not actively wanting it.

So, to explain his ideology a bit better. Stain hates people who aren't doing hero work for pure reasons. He doesn't like iida because he went to kill stain out of revenge, not Because he wanted to help native, or for the sake of any of the other heros. Stains very flawed in his view, that's just a fact, but there are plenty of heros that do it not for the people, but out of greed, and fame. It's still wrong, because he accused ingenium of being a fake and he wasn't, however he didn't kill him and that mightve been why

If you look at the prequel manga, we get a slightly better look at the fact that Stain is actually a mental case. On top of that, prior to his hero killing days he was a Punisher style vigilante, but so over the top that minor infractions were irredeemable. And when the MC of the manga tries to do the right thing and protect someone from Stain, Stain tells him that those who protect evil are also evil, and evil must be killed.

It's not that they get paid. Stain hates that half the heroes in the industry do it for fame. Getting paid is one thing, but you should be a hero for the right reasons instead of having that be the reason you're a hero.
So we ends up doing research and then killing the heroes that are not righteous.

Think of it this way. Heroes being paid means they now can put their all into saving people. They don't have to worry about their own income, don't have to have a second job, leaving more time and energy for protecting people. Heroes getting paid means they don't ahve to weigh up saving someone vs potential medical bills and lost hours.
Critically though, from a practical standpoint, who cares? If getting a guaranteed income means more people willing and able to save others, what does it matter if someone is a "true hero". The person who gets pulled out of a collapsed building isn't gonna throw a tantrum that the hero is getting paid to do so, they aren't gonna demand they be put back until a real hero comes, they're gonna be thankful that they got pulled out. Stain's philosophy puts impossibly high morals over common sense, and in doing so he becomes a serial killer for people who just wanted to be compensated for risking their lives. Soldiers, police officers, doctors, firefighters, they all get paid to help people, but according to Stain they aren't heroes and should be all killed. Yeah see how well things go if that happens, I dare you.
End of the day, if I call for help, I'd rather have as much chance of someone being there and able to help as possible. I don't give two shits if they get a paycheck at the end of the day.
And before anyone talks about him killing corrupt heroes, the Meta Liberation Army, a literal terrorist organisation, was fomenting under Stain's watch and he did nothing about it. Even without their integration with the League, how many people would have died from this organisation's eventual attacks? YOu can ramble about good causes all you want but all it takes is one prick who just wants an excuse to run wild and boom, a hospital or a school gets blown up in the crossfire. Stain is literally just plot fuel. He comes in, spews some flawed rhetoric that isn't questioned by the narrative, and through pure coincidence ends up sending Shigaraki a couple goons. They're both hero hunters, but Garou as a character is leagues above anywhere Stain could ever hope to be.
