    Hello Rex, the construction of this Tiki 21 is fantastic! I'm a fan of your work! Encouragement to all of us, to receive so much knowledge of this wonderful couple... Thank you! God bless you always and give you a lot of physical health!

    Adapt as needs dictate. That is why human beings are a successful species, well mostly anyway. There are a few videos on mast raising on the Wharram builders and friends site and also the Wharram site too. Gin pole style. An Aluminium mast seems the way to go from a weight and rot point of view. Thanks for sharing your experiences for us to learn from too. Best regards to that lovely young first mate of yours.

      Found a few of them, and that is the direction we are heading. Will put the aluminum mast together as well but need to work on the trailer to get it to the ramp providing the gin pole works out.The First mate actually blushed. Thanks.

    You could use a gin pole resting on the front of the base of the mast. Fix the bottom of the forestay to the other end of the gin pole. A 4 way pulley would then easily hoist the mast. On my Tiki, I fix the main halyards to either end of the mast beam to prevent the mast from swaying off centre

    Nice choice.
    This aluminum mast will be good and safe enough for the job.
    Thanks for sharing.

    That is so funny. I thought, “I think that mast Larry Page has in his shed would work better for them.”

      We will give it one more try using a gin pole. Funny we were able to handle/lift the masts on all of our smaller boats when we younger. Will still use the aluminum mast but just trying to get the boat on the water, still have the trailer to convert so we can launch from it. Thanks Michael, appreciate you following us.

    Thanks for sharing the magnificent job you have done.
    I've recently bought the plans for the Hitia 17 and want to build it in my backyard in St. Pete, I'm a total newbie and doing the needed research to start building I have found your channel. I'll have to carefully watch all of your videos because the final result looks amazing.
    I'm trying to figure out what are the best suppliers and make decisions on epoxy resins, woods and even tools to use. Any advice on that (or actually any other) matter will be greatly appreciated.

      Looking forward to watching your progress. We use Raka epoxy and buy our fiberglass from them, raka.com they are here in Florida. Plywood from our friend Bedard Yacht designs in Tarpon Springs. Intercity lumber for fir and almost any other wood you might need, causeway Blvd, Tampa. Triton lumber in Homosassa. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you. I was surprised to see you try and raise the mast alone. I thought, whoa those timber masts must be light etc. So I was reassured to see you both struggling. I have a round profile aluminium. mast, and its heavy. I look forward to seeing what solution to come up with. Cheers.

      I have seen a gin pole used alongside a winch on the forestay??

      We are working on the gin pole idea, took us a while to get around to that idea. Small boat sailors never had a need before. Thanks for watching.

      We are working on a gin pole to raise it, hoping it will be the solution. Thanks for watching.

      Yeh, a gin pole is heavy duty for small boats. I've noticed the farrier tris use it a lot with their tall rigs. Good luck. I'm refitting a T21 and have only ever dropped the round aluminum mast, it was heavy I recall. Very interested in your solution. Good luck

    I hope you guys have better luck on the next mast. In the next video, could you add some footage of where you are standing on “deck”?

    • @RexandKathie
      @RexandKathie  Год назад

      We are approaching it knowing we will succeed, positive thinking makes masts lighter. Will get a shot of the deck, about a 6' by 6' area with the hole for the outboard motor. Thanks.

    Hi Kathie and Rex . Can you lash a line from the forward face of the port side of the beam that you are stepping the mast on , up the mast lashed on the centreline and back down to the starboard side forward face to form a triangle ? From the forward face so it doesn't become too tight before the mast is fully upright and mast side stays start to do their jobs. And a line from the mast head down and over the gaff yard pole with throat on forward face of the mast and down to a block at the forward beams centre and back to you next too the mast ? P.s how do the wing sails get fitted too the mast thanks again for videos. Cheers

    • @RexandKathie
      @RexandKathie  Год назад +1

      We are working on something similar to your suggestion. Stay tuned. Unless the wing sail has a giant zipper installed in the wing (ours doesn't), the only time you can fit the sails is when the mast is raised and lowered. Thanks for watching.

      @@RexandKathie cheers , I wasn't sure about the sails , the lighter mast will make a big difference and cut a lot of weight by the sounds . Lighter and faster and higher on the water line .thanks again for the videos all the best .

    I have been following your progress for some time, as I am interested in the Wharram design. I would like to build one some day! I believe that I am local to you. If you need a hand, let me know. It would be my pleasure to help with the beautiful boat you have!

      @@RexandKathie Very good, I am in Tampa and travel through there regularly to visit my parents in Old Town regularly. If you need a hand, don't hesitate to reach out. I would like to build a trailerable sailboat that is capable of some offshore sailing and the Wharram is legendary!

      @@michaelmajor191 Will do, agree that Wharrams have impressive reputations. Start with a smaller boat to build up your skills before tackling a large project if you haven't built before and to get you on the water sooner.
