Rex and Kathie, please be aware I do not mean to be negative in any way, I have watchd your previous vids and I do feel you had a lot more to offer. the mast raising has promtedme to post, I am not young man, I am not even a fit old man, but I could raise not only your mast but any rigging asignt to it at sea in anything other than a moderate swell, single handed, and so could you! You need a tabernakle mast step and you can use the boom lashed t!o the shroud plates as an a frame. It makes everything simple, it is the plain logical thinkng that built the pyramids!

We are beginning to see the value of a tabernacle. Will have the shrouds attached and 4 to 1 blocks on the gin pole. Thanks

There’s no need to lift the mast from the deck, or to use crutches. Use a 4 to 1 pulley from the bridle to the end of the gin pole, and haul the mast up from in front of your boat. Also, tie off the peak and throat halyards to each end of the mast beam, and tension. The mast will then lift without swaying in a side wind. Your Tiki deserves a wooden mast!!

Gonna give it another try, we know others do this easily. Thanks for the ideas and encouragement.

I like the setup you had with the gin pole and guide box ! A little less wind and it would have been a success . I often refer to your videos as a guide for my build, Thanks !

Hi Rex and Cathy, over here in the UK we have a system of inland rivers with several low bridges called "The Norfolk Broads". The sailing boats that are designed and built to sail the whole network have counterbalanced masts which are raised and lowered regularly which takes a few minutes. These masts are mostly made of wood and are quite heavy. There are a couple of hire fleets, one called "Hunters Yard" from Ludham, and the other called "Eastwood Whelpton" from Upton. If you`re looking for an easy raising / lowering system, it may be worth contacting them to see what systems they use.
Alternatively, a lot of modern "sloop" rigged yats have a pivoting "A frame" which the two pivot points (the base of the "A") are in line with the base of the mast, which also has a hinge on it, and the point of the "A" Is at the bottom of the forestay, and clamped down. To lower the mast, simply unclip the point of the A frame which has a line attached through a running block and lead back to the cockpit, and gradually lower it down. Very similar to what you were doing, but more stable, and can be done through the security of a winch.
If you have a google around, you should be able to find pictures, or even video footage here on youtube.

One extra person and a hefty tabernacle would do a lot.

Agree, gonna give it a shot with a 4 to 1 block at the bridle and make sure the shrouds are attached.

Wish I could be there to help. That looks like a rough one. Too bad you can’t just hop on the gin pile and ride it down. Lol

It is probably easier than we have found so far. Will have the shrouds attached and 4 to 1 blocks on the gin pole. If that doesn't work may build a tabernacle. Thanks

Hi Rex and Kathie. There is a video of Stewart Coats doing the same with Lucky fish ( ruclips.net/video/3P4OuIORzds/видео.html ). Seems the shrouds (or side-stays or guy lines) should go all the way to their fixing points near the mast head to the beam ends and be kept as tight as possible. There should be a line from the top of the mast (a halyard possibly) to the end of the gin pole. It is a good idea to stay the gin pole end to the beam ends too. Between the same end of the gin pole and the forestay bridle you operate your handy billy, or block and tackle, this is what does the lifting, other than possibly a little push start upward with your A frame. There should be no need for anyone to be standing beneath the mast as it is lifted. Remember that the gin pole clamp should not slide on the mast. Of course it is easy to comment from the comfort of an arm chair but I really hope this is received in the spirit it is meant and not seen as criticism. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful videos.

We watched that exact video yesterday and rigged it just as you described. Appreciate your description. We stood at the bow on the ground and all of the shrouds held the mast straight and true. Ran it up and down 4 or 5 times. Do need to remove about an 3 mm from the top piece of the mast step but it was effortless. Gin pole and blocks made it very easy, Will get a short video out next week. If it weren't for comments we would have still been breaking our backs, thanks we appreciate..
