    I just took all 3 written, just a heads up for the new testers. Only 60% of what prep ware has is on the test. The rest are re worded or the answer is the question like he said. If you come across a question you've never seen, just do an elimination process and really think about the question and answer.

    • @brycebuildsit
      @brycebuildsit  Год назад +7

      We are hearing that from our students as well. Some get a test that's 90% the same some 60% like yours. Best of luck on your O&P's.

      I can verify this. Just took my writtens beginning of last month (March). Got 90s on the practice tests and low 70s on all my writtens (barely passed) because the wording threw me off. Just passed my airframe o&p studying for my powerplant now.

    • @brycebuildsit
      @brycebuildsit  Год назад +2

      I wouldn't say pointless you can expect 40% of your test to be directly out of prepware another 20% to be re worded prepware questions and the rest to be new questions. Prepware is still an excellent tool the faa just isn't pulling those questions 100% anymore

    Don’t just study the questions and answers…the best way to study and pass is to learn the material and have a good understanding of it. This strategy will help you better prepare for your FAA written, orals, and practicals tests because you better understand and know the subjects that you will be tested on

    Took three of my written tests from studying prep ware. 70% were from the prep ware book and 30% were reworded, but the 30 percent were just common knowledge. For those that are taking written test. I prefer to just answer the questions you know and go back to the ones you don’t know. If you stick to one question for more than 5-10 minutes then you’ll for sure the same topic from the question you couldn’t answer and will be more difficult.

    So If you read the explanation of the correct answer and know why that was the correct answer it wouldn’t be an issue.
    Some of the questions, they will invert the question with the answer, where the answer becomes the question and the question becomes the answer

      Definitely general first. I'm not familiar with MIAT but I'm sure they run the same as most schools. You will take all your general classes then all your airframe, then PowerPlant. My Advice would be to study all through general and airframe so that you can go test for your A as soon as you are done. Then all you have to study for and focus on for PowerPlant is PowerPlant. I waited till the very end and it sucked trying to study for everything.

    Little update as a current DME to add to the information you put out on the oral and practical. As of April 2015, the FAA created a testing planning sheet that DMEs must follow. The FAA provides all the oral questions and answers and which project the applicant must complete under the Practical Testing Standard (PTS).
    However, on August 1, 2023, the FAA testing standard changed to the current Airman Certification Standard (ACS). Again the FAA will choose all the oral and practical projects and the DME must only ask all of the questions and the applicant must complete all of the practical projects with two additional oral questions pre-project.
    The ACS test is scored differently than the PTS. You still have to pass each section of the General, Airframe, and Powerplant section but you are allowed to fail some questions and projects and still pass if you score 70% or better.
    The number of oral questions and projects will be determined by your FAA written test scores. What questions and projects will be based on what you missed on the written tests by a code number that will match up to the ACS test standards so you will know what elements in each section to re-study for your oral and practical tests.

      I am in the middle of testing applicants under the new ACS standard. Interesting those outstanding students in the AMTS schools are doing well. It is those who barely pass the course and missed a lot of school days that just passed the curriculum in the 70% are failing both oral and practical projects. The DME is just a score keeper so the applicant has no one to blame but themselves when they fail.@@brycebuildsit

      Aeronautic engineering is not really my forte but I will say look into Ed Swearingen. He was an Aeronautical engineer who built some of the most incredible business jets in history however he was quoted as saying "I don't care how hard it is to work on or build". For this reason many A&P mechanics hate working on Swearingen aircraft because of how difficult they can be. If you haven't already I would also try and spend some time working in a general aviation maintance shop you will learn so much about how it works and why it fails.

    Stumbled across your channel Bryce and love it, please keep creating content. Looking for advice. A little about me, I'm a professional engineer from a top school with a very established career. With my success I've been afforded the luxury of getting into aviation. A few years back I got my pilots cert and now own a Bonanza. My dream is to be able to work on my own plane. I am a very capable engineer and have learned so much about planes in a short time. I even find myself more versed on process and tasks than my local A&P IA. Him and I have became very good friends and I've been helping (pro bono) with annuals and repairs. Can I log these hours and work towards the 8610-2 requirement even tho I was never an official employee? I'm also toying with the idea of classes, being an engineer I'm no stranger to academe but have a full time career I'd have to balance. Any suggestions??

    • @brycebuildsit
      @brycebuildsit  Год назад

      That's awesome man I'm actually going to be having some Bonanza content in a few weeks. Removal of engine and prop after a strike. To your question it depends on your local FSDO. If you keep a log book just like your flight log of the maintenance you have done and your friend who's the A&P signs it off as having supervised the work. The FAA can and may grant credit for practical experience. To the question about school any part 147 school is going to run classes 8hrs a day 5 days a week. Unless you go at night which will take 2X as long to finish the whole program.

    • @brycebuildsit
      @brycebuildsit  Год назад

      Gleim gets the questions from the same bank of FAA released questions that ASA or Jepison uses. It's essentially all the same test prep just put out by different publishers. If that's what you have been studying you should be fine. Again it goes back to making sure you understand the material and not just memorize the correct answer.

      Still prepware, believe me I know it's allot of information. However you only have to go through the testing process once. Also if you go through a part 147 school you should already know most of the information and reading prepwares reasons will be review. I think I said it in another video but the FAA has identified a large shortage in A&P mechanics so the solution is to make the test harder.

      Many of my students are reporting the same. The FAA has added new questions to all 3 question banks however they are not releasing those questions to the public. My first piece of advice is not to give up, 2nd is review the workbook questions in the text books. Prepware is a great tool also make sure you understand the correct answer and not just memorize them.

      @@brycebuildsit the 147 requirements have already changed for schools. 8610-2 forms have also changed especially on the AME side. • @brycebuildsit
      @brycebuildsit  Год назад +1

      I am aware I teach at a 147 program we have started teaching the ACS but our local FSDO has told us that DME can still test based on the PTS until October of 23. The biggest change is your O&P will be based on your written i.e. the better you do on the written the easier the O&P is going to be. Outside of that several sections have had questions added like composites and ground ops. The FAA has also added new questions to the written test and re worded many of the existing ones. Most of my students are reporting 40% directly out of prepware another 40% is re worded questions, and 20% are completely new. The FAA has said the are no longer releasing the new questions but you are correct the writtens have already changed to ACS. I'm sorry I know that was a long reply but that is what the FAA has told us.

      @@brycebuildsit interesting. Sounds like essentially August 1 2023- October 1 2023 will be the transition period where it will depend on region and DME as to how the O&P will work. A few DME’s I have spoken with are already preparing for the transition and have stopped booking tests until after July 31st.
