Why didn't i searched this channel in the first place.... it's always the best place to look for 1290 maintenance... After extensive search, I could not find the part number for this plastic piece, and went with the DOUBLE costing aluminium one from KTM too and was searching on how to install it, darn it, could have saved some euros.
Just picked up a brand new 1090R. It came with a thin black metal radiator guard installed. Maybe 2mm thick. I also got this same plastic guard in a box with the bike from dealer. Am I meant to have both installed? If not, which one is best?
2 Wheeled Rider no the plastic one is the same as the one you installed in this video with the plastic fins that project forwards and sideways. The metal one is a grid of square holes made from thin powder coated aluminum (about 2mm thick). Looked at it last night and seems they don’t both fit together so it’s one or the other. I have no idea which is best though 🤔
What are the advantages between plastic (what you have) and a metal-based (aluminum/stainless/etc) radiator guard? I simply can't wait to own a '17 SA-T. It was my first KTM to 'Taste Test' ever (check my vid on it), and it maybe my destined bike to own!
Here's a question from a new touring owner (2018 1090). Do you have a list of tools I should put together for quick maintenance jobs while out in the bush?
Like I said in the video, it’s the plastic guard that comes on the new 1090 & 1290 R models. My bike and the S model don’t come with them a radiator guard stock.

Very nice guard, quick install. That guy at the end of the intro...lol
I have to see if they make a guard for the FJR. I need one with all the dang bugs up here.

Shouldn't need both. Call is yours. Not sure one is better than the other. Are they of similar design?

EU model has the fuel line with a plastic protection under the radiator and it this won't fit. Any suggestions?

The plastic one is dirt cheap and does the job. Pretty much the same design I run on my 250 XCF and it sees far worse conditions.

Check out this video. It'll cover most ruclips.net/video/_F7_rMmu2Ho/видео.html
Funny I installed the same thing today for my Duke 250 lol
Great minds, brother
Does this replace the plastic guard? Or sit on top of it like some after market radiator guards? Thanks.

2 Wheeled Rider Ok I must have missed that. Thanks for the reply.
Okay, which took longer, the install or the video shoot? (I'm guessing the shoot.)
Shooting for sure. Wasn’t sure if the crashbars would need to be removed but doesn’t get much easier than that.
this radiator guard is for 1190 R?
60335040000?
That should fit it. Pretty sure the same guards fit all of the full size ADV bikes.
2:48 LOL! :-)
Well... it's true 😂
ummm what if I mix up the right and left screws ?? hahahaha
you'll void your warranty 😂
hahaha
