The way they animated the MG42 scenes.. oh man. I've been using the MG3 as my service weapon for almost 8 months, which is pretty much the same as the MG42. From the cleaning scene to the way they hold the gun and all the little parts and details function, everything is just perfect. The sounds are a bit different, but with blanks, my MG3 sounds almost the same. They must have had some really good reference material. Really wanna see a behind the scenes for this movie.

MG42 fired the 8mm Mauser, where the MG3 fires 7.62x51 NATO. Taking the calibre out of the equations they are the same gun. In my opinion, the MG3 is still the best Squad support weapon, as it lay down more fire more quickly than any other LMG at the time of its development.

The training part is even better when you realize they aren't stg44s, they are the earlier MKB42 prototype that they've relegated for training that are almost exactly like their main rifle, all to save cost in universe probably

Honestly 1990s Japan was just a cultural powerhouse. Much of the things that came out of Japan in those 10 years are still held in high regard today and have influenced everything that followed. The automotive scene will never get over its obsession with JDM cars, especially ones from the 90s. Most of the vehicular cast of the first few Fast and Furious movies were Japanese cars produced in the 90s. The Mk4 Supra, R34 GTR, Mitsubishi Eclipse, EJ1 Civic, FD RX-7, and many more. The anime community still holds many anime from the 1990s in high regard and arguably most of them take the cake for best ones of all time. NGE, Gundam, Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball, Digimon, Pokémon, Sailor Moon, and Cowboy Bebop. The tech boom of 1990s Japan is also still felt today. Blue LEDs came from Japan in the early 1990s and paved the way for most of what’s possible with LEDs today. The PlayStation was developed and released by 1994 continuing on today to be one of the most popular gaming consoles. Silent Hill was released in 1999 and has produced one of the greatest horror franchises in gaming and has spawned tons of parodies and games that take large inspiration from it. The franchise has even spawned a film adaptation that came out in 2006. The first Resident Evil game was released in 1996 and defined the survival horror genre. Spawning multiple sequels, comic book, and film adaptations. Many survival horror and horror games in general still take bits and pieces of the Resident Evil franchise and use them to market and make their own products. The first camera phone was developed in Japan in 1999 and is directly responsible for that embarrassing selfie you almost posted. Japan also developed the QR Code in 1994, and the first commercially produced Li-Ion battery was produced by Sony in 1994… Overall 1990s Japan is and was amazing and Jin Roh is just another reflection of that. It’s no wonder it’s done what many other anime’s have trouble with.

I'm still thinking giving every operative an MG 42 in that first scene was a bit of an overkill. They've already have scary af armor with glowing eyes. StG 44 (+ one MG) would be a better choice. To my knowledge no police or military unit in the real world is armed exclusively with machine guns. But that just a minor nitpick, that anime is a masterpiece, indeed.

In Lore of Jin Roh it is explained by the fact that Protect Gears appeared first in the Battle of Stalingrad which gave them a firepower superiority over the Soviet Assault Sappers and normal troops, obviously it has derived from Nazi Germany and clearly influenced the Capitol Police (Just abit of background to give you a understanding of why they use the MG42's)

I've been watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes and enjoy it for many of the same reasons that you mention (don't get me wrong though, it is a bit more cheesy). The universe is well fleshed out and almost every aspect of the universe is expanded upon.

eh my man, don't you contradict yourself by the
"immersion in another world." that doesn't really require 'realism' as you define it. As Cowboy bebop, and Eva really don't fit. Eva is psychologically serious, but again is it realistic? No, grounded in a deeper 'realism'. Yes. For this reason it can be both unpalatable and not realistic.
It was an okay video. But it really shouldn't contradict yourself in the process.
I may have missed it in the video. But you can have totally realistic absurdist narratives. Like the Fuse could of died in that sewer and it would of been far more realistic and believable.
Realism is just a vehicle, a stylistic-aesthetic that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't flat statements don't really work. Sometimes it works for what you are trying to convey.
A really good example is PlanetS. Bebop would be an example, of what happens when you can play fast and loose with the rules, it's very puply, and corny.
I think Texhnolyze is a fun example, where it's setting has a distinct feel of high realism. But as a whole it's entirely non-realistic. Especially, with say sounds, concepts, visuals. There is something beyond flat realistic entites, and a general sensation of realism. There is probably something deeper to go into it as a whole.

it's like the campaign of modern warfare, the story and villain are trash, but there's such attention to detail and all the characters act rationally, with great dialouge, so everything ends up being believable... while the disney star wars trilogy is just trash, because nothing is believable and nothing makes any god damn sense.

People stereotype anime as bug eyed, yellowhair, over the top expression and run with their hands behind their back like "ninja, cause majority of the anime are like that.
