John Gibbons is a registered Osteopath, Lecturer and Multi-Published Author and is demonstrating how to apply a self kinesiology tape using Rocktape for an achilles tendinopathy / severs disease, tendinosis, bursitis, heel stress fracture and calf strain. The tape can also help for plantar fasciitis if you continued under the heel bone. These techniques and more is taught on the Kinesiology taping Master-Class at Core Elements in Swindon.
Also there is an online course and follow this Link for further information: bodymaster-met...
John also has Hip videos and he discusses an acetabular labral tear and also a femoroacetabular impingement called an FAI - these are cam and pincer type of impingement. He also mentions perthes disease and osteoarthritis of the hip joint. John also discusses how the hip flexors (psoas) are involved and the iliofemoral ligaments and how they cause an inhibition to the gluteus maximus (Gmax) through the hip extension firing pattern test. Janda and the lower crossed syndrome is also mentioned and how this can cause lower back, facet or disc pathology of L5 or L5 and involve the nerve roots.
John also shows you in his other videos to assess the nerve root level of the adductors (obturator nerve through L3 reflex), patella tendon (femoral nerve through L4 reflex), semitendinosus (tibial / sciatic nerve of L5 reflex) and Achilles / plantar (tibial nerve of sciatic through S1 reflex) and a normal response is classified as 2++. Any reduced hypo-reflex (1+) or increased hyper-reflex (3+++) with Clonus and Babinski positive as might indicate some form of upper motor neurone lesion like Multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord tumour or brain injury.
In terms of his courses he offers, you can attend one at a time if you prefer or book all ten and receive a discount. Hi Roman, sorry for the late reply. Place the calf on stretch and apply from the insertion to the origin with little to no stretch of the 'I' strip, then applay a smaller 'I' strip across the pain to decompress and leave for 3-5 days.

Kwarkool - Kinesiology taping is widely used within a number of professions such as sports osteopath and physiotherapist. I'm a physiotherapist myself and like John says, there's research to have a look at if you spare the time to check it out. Also: It's not like John Gibbons (or any other professional for that matter) drags his patients into the room, applies a coupla inches of tape and them kicks them out. They're thoroughly examined and helped in more ways than taping only. Cheers.

Btw, tried your taping (the one in this video) about an hour ago on an elderly lady who can't stand the pain from excentric training of the gastrocnemius (bilateral), worked wonders. The one I usually go for didn't help, so here's to a quick look on youtube to find alternatives. ;)

Have a look on google for kinesiology taping reserach and you will find if you look, SportEx also have a research article that was published in Jan 2013. Every patient I have applied it to have all commented on how good it feels and I have never had a negative comment apart from someone like you.........

Quick question: In this vid it looks like you're grabbing the sticky side of the tape when applying. Are you doing that because it's "only" a demo video, or do you get away with doing that and still the tape sticks? If I do that it'll roll up within a day or two.

Thanks for sharing. I would like to ask a question regarding the application of the tape to the calf muscle. In other demonstration I've seen that the tape is cut to about mid calf area but when applied its stretched to the top. Can you comment please?

I tried all of these things to relieve constant pain in my Archillies Tendon, Gastron Scraping, all kinds of massage even Profesional deep tissue with elbow massages l, electric current diode, countless rubs and creams. And it all helped a little, but Notting cured it. Evwrymorning I was stiff in the tendons and I stretched and stretched and finally I got portable ultra sound wand. And one use, one damn use of it I was 5 times better the with all of those things combined together I just listed, including Antiinflematories OTCs, Ice and Tapes. So I am telling you people if you can't get rid of your archillies pain, try Ultra Sound massage wand. The only rub that helped with it was ActivON. maybe Arnica but all others are bull. Just wanted to share this to help other struggling if they stumble along this Comment lol, cose I am so released. Slava Bogu. :)

I had a severed Achilles a couple of years ago and an operation to use another tendon to support the ankle because the achilles could not be repaired. My ankle has been much better but I still find it difficult to go up onto my toes and going down stairs is still a bit worrying, Do you think that the KT tape would help or make it more difficult?

Can I ask how long do you keep wearing these for? Can you shower with them? How often do you replace them? Should they be on all the time or just during a workout? Does it make it safer to workout if you have the tape support on ?

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  9 лет назад +4

INHeadKay You can leave the tape on for between 3-5 days and it is fine to shower and to train with the tape on.

It will help reduce the symptoms and reduce the pain, however it does not fix the problem. Hope that helps JG

Unfortunately as an Osteopath, Sports Therapist and Triathlete myself i would say this is NOT the method I would use. Think about it logically. You are trying to decelerate the ground reaction force as the heel strikes. The ankle complex is moving from Plantar flexion to Dorsiflexion. You want the Tape to help control this movement. Therefore, yo need to position the Client with the foot in Plantarflexion with all the tension off the achilles and gastrocnemius. I have then found the best method to use an initial strip from the heel up the back of the calf. Add further oblique strips from below the the medial and lateral malleolus.

You are right as taping only reduces the symptoms and never address the causative factors, which there are many as I am sure you know....!! Thanks for the comments...regards JG

You can try as the tape has a lot of natural stretch so wouldn't cause a problem. Let me know how you get on, Regards JG

+Lazybabyz I use Kinesiology tape all the time (go through tons of the stuff) - I have tried all sorts..cheap and expensive..and I can say 100% - do not buy cheap Kinesiology tape..it's false economy. the cheap stuff just doesn't stick well and the ket to KT tap working is that it adhered evenly and strongly. I'd advise to get the most expensive you can afford. I personal go with mueller, but Rock tape is a great band too.
