    @martinschultz5596 Год назад +6

    You're only getting into the good stuff at the very end. Those massages and stretches are not the "absolute best" for this issue. Loading is the key to healing tendinopathies, which you're only doing with those slow eccentric calf raises. Even eccentrics aren't really better than other contractions for this, and what's now often used by physical therapists at the top of their game to treat tendinopathies is the heavy slow resistance protocol where you do 3-0-3 tempo work (3 seconds up, no pause at the top, 3 seconds down). The Alfredson protocol works, too, but heavy slow resistance seems to get a little better satisfaction from users.

But how could my calves, which I've been training for 4 years, be so weak that the average joe next to me has no problem walking for hours. So yeah, hopefully it's the achilles and this is the fix.

      @@abnormal_3 it improved steadily over two weeks. Almost miraculously. Not instantly, but as I said, over two weeks. I was very careful to cross-fiber friction with my fingertips many times a day, including some hunger longer sessions. It improved so fast that I took it for granted and it came right back as I stopped babying it.
      So the last week I've been doing the same thing and at this moment it feels as good as it did after the two weeks. I'm still going walking and a little bit of very careful jogging, but I can feel it's tight, and I hope not to make the same mistake again.
      Just talked to a guy at the pool yesterday who's been doing everything and spending boatloads of money on his "tennis elbow" that he got from continuously lifting heavy things. he's miserable. I don't want to be in his shoes. He's been at it for six months.

    I've been fighting Achilles Tendonitis on one side for about 2 months. I've tried resting it (not 100%), using ice, compression and elevation. Resting it helped a little after 2 to 3 days, but the first long walk or easy run after, it would flare up again. Ice was just momentary relief. Compression was practically useless and elevation was mildly helpful. I also did the recommended calf raises from time to time when it wasn't hurting too bad, but no end in sight. After watching this, I tried the massage technique with Voltaren combined with mild training and calf raises on rest days for about 2 weeks before a half marathon. It wasn't bad before the race, and after the race, it felt no worse. Just a couple days later, it feels like it's almost gone! The recommended massage and calf raises really helped. Thanks, Bob & Brad!

    I'm a 60 year-old 30 miles per week runner, and my achilles has been acting up for several months. It's just as you said, I lay off, do ice and stretches, etc., and try a short run when it feels better, only to spend the next several days very sore limping around again. I'm anxious to get started with the therapy and massage you're talking about here. Thanks for the video, and keep up the good work.

    15 yrs ago I snapped my right Achilles tendon. Here I am now doing 5-6 miles a day and my right Achilles is super sore and I walk with a limp during this time. I took 4 days off, feels better, 3 miles in gradually got more and more painful and now I'm limping again tonite. Ill try the ice and rubbing it again. It hurts so badly and is so tender I can't rub with hardly any pressure. I'll try everything they said but if anybody's got any advice or experienced the same I'd love to hear about it.

    Been having trouble with my Achilles heel for the last couple of years. Some of these exercises were recommended by a physiotherapist that I had a consultation with. However, it continues to become painful when doing exercise (especially painful when pressure from light jumping, squats). So I’m going to try the massage method, then the other exercise stretching/ strengthening strategies that were mentioned in this video. I hope it helps! If not, back to the GP for me! Lol.

    The pain is just about the heel. Between where you were pinching and the bottom of my heel. Hurts like crazy when I push on it. Every morning I can hardly walk, until I get some blood flow. I'm stretching on the slanted board too, icing and rubbing. I have been fighting this for about 3 years. The pain is on the heel bone. Thoughts?

      Work on the plantar fascia by rubbing the bottom of your foot on a tennis ball. If the plantar fascia is too tight it will make the Achilles tight.

    May want to suggest some lotion while rubbing, I rubbed as you said switched hands rubbing and finished rubbing really hard and wound up burning my skin from rubbing so hard. Had to put on hold until burns healed. Just bought some Shea butter and will start trying again in away or so. I have a tendency to go all in, most may not rub as hard as I did but I want this fixed so went a little overboard

    How do you know when you should rest from working out. I feel it when I wake up in the morning then after walking on it for a while I dont feel it anymore. Sometimes I feel it when I start running but after a mile or so the pain goes away. It's not getting any worse but its not getting better either.

      Vince Lombardi I'm in the same situation.. I'm a runner but this last year I've been very inactive and living with bad eating habits and gaining some wait... I decided to sign up for the army and started running and excersising like crazy, then I had a injury too my achilles... I can run but it's sore the next day, I also have to run more flatfooted on my injured foot, the irony of it all is that I'm supposed to ship to basic in a week from now...

      Lately I've been using the foam roller on my calves. it helps it a lot. There are a lot of videos on how to do it the right way using the foam roller. You don't want to use it over where the soreness is but a few inches away from it and up the calve. We have to be careful to know the difference between if your really injured there or it just being sore from a hard workout. You don't want it to tear or rupture because you will be out from running for months if that happens.

    • @Theanielas
      @Theanielas 7 лет назад

      Vince Lombardi ok thx for the reply I wanted to use the roller technique myself, but with only a few days left for me I don't know if it'll benefit me enough but I'm stretching it and icing it alot. I'm still going to basic either way.

      Hello! I'm watching videos to see if anyone is in the same situation I'm in and you are the first I've come across in like 5 videos. As you said I feel it first thing in the morning but as I walk around or jog into my workout it goes away for the day. It's been a year since you posted your comment but could you say if the foam rollers helped ? Has the situation resolved itself or are you still in the same situation to this day? Thank you so much. I'm deciding or not whether to go to the doctor or to do these methods to keep it at bay

    Wow, thank you soooooo much...new subscriber from the UK :) I've been suffering with this for ages, didn't know what it was and just did a search on here, really glad I found you as I have realised I have both Achilles tendonitis & plantar problems...I have flat feet so have the same pain in both legs/feet, I don't have it through a sports or exercise injury, I think it's just because I'm getting older and these old bones and muscles just don't want to work anymore. Followed your instructions and can't believe how much better it feels already as I've had constant pain even when resting and unbelievably after just one lot of the excersizes etc you've shown my pain has eased considerably. I have a request....if possible could you do (or do you have) a video with help on what footwear is better for these conditions as I struggle to find comfortable shoes, I know there are gel type supports for heels, toes and arches but have no idea if any of them would help...any suggestions would be most gratefully received. Ann

    achilles tendonitis came on suddenly...over night. It was so painful the only thing I could think of was to stretch my foot straight up and side to side, then downward. The downward was the most painful of all. 3am, here I am looking for relief for the pain on the internet. I found your site and am trying your techniques. I am 71, wear a 2-3" heel some days to work, other days tennis shoes. I sit most of the days [I am a teacher], yet walk a bit around the building as well. Hope this works! Thank you for your you tubes guys, enjoyed watching you and learning (I also subscribed)
