I have been dealing with this for over a year now and the massage technique really helped. My tendon was actually "thickening" and was visibly noticeable. Once I started using a narrow diameter foam roller on my calf muscle the relief was pretty much immediate. I am actually watching my achilles shrink back to a normal diameter these last 3 weeks. 2-3 times a day I roll the calf 100-150 times with moderate pressure while sitting and it has totally turned the tide. I can't tell you fellows how much I appreciate your advice I only wish I had found this particular video sooner. You guys have so many helpful videos it took me a while to find the "achilles tendonitis" vid that suggested a foam roller, which was the deal-maker for my situation. Thanks a million, gentlemen.

You guys are wizards. I’m doing a work up for an ultra marathon and after a few heavy speed sessions I started developing Achilles pain, all signs pointing to achiles tendinitis. I’ve tried lots of stretching, essential oils, calf massage, a week off running, and nothing worked. 2 months of lingering stiffness and discomfort. Literately did this tendon massage 1 time and the next morning there was NO stiffness and all symptoms were significantly reduced. I’m blown away. Will keep at it and definitely subscribed. Thanks for the video guys... you two are a great double act! I had an ultrasound last year when my Achilles tendinopathy was at its worst - it showed a significant tear and a lot of inflammation. I could barely walk and definitely not run or even touch the tendon. As well as doing eccentric calf stretches and gradually increasing the load on my tendon I ended up having deep (painful) massage therapy to my gastroc/soleus + Storz shockwave therapy to my tendon at the Fay Pedler Clinic in Plymouth. It took 5 sessions but it worked and I’m back running!

I need to be able to dance again soon, so I'll be doing this with R.I.C.E. a few times per day. I'm pretty sure based on research that it will get better soon since I don't have any of the bad symptoms indicating a rupture, just over use. Now I will be using my foam roller daily to fix it and prevent it in the future. Thank you!!!

I’ve had Achilles tendinitis for about 5 years. I used to be a runner. I don’t have a tear or any bulging of the tendon. But I can’t go up too many stairs without feeling soreness the next day. I also enjoy cycling. But I can’t cycle more than 20mins (on flats) without feeling it the next day. I know I haven’t healed yet probably because I haven’t continued doing healdowns consistently. I’m going to try this pinching technique and get back to more routine stretching exercises.
    NOTE:
I’d really like it if everyone who commented would provide a status update on how they’re doing weeks and months later. It’s great to know that they felt relief immediately after trying this suggested pinching techniques. But how are they doing now? So you need to continue using the technique forever even after feeling better?
Thanks to all for your comments.

Wow, I have some Achilles tendinitis in both legs, and the finger massaging really helps. If I don’t do it the evening before, I really feel it coming down the stairs in the morning. But if I spend a few minutes the evening before doing the finger massaging, I have no pain, or almost no pain (my right one still hurts a bit, but I think that is because I am massaging it with my left hand, which is my weaker/non-dominant hand).

Can the lingering pain from a few months ago be completely healed by doing this? Or, is this something that should have be done much closer to the time of the injury? It is very tender after the cross fiber massage. Just wondering if there is hope for less lingering pain if i continue these options. Thanks Love your videos, Keep up the outstanding work!

I have been told that it will a long period of time before it returns or seems normal. Question ice Heat combination of both with massaging with stretches once comfortable

Hi Bob & Brad, love your channel. I am looking for exercises to correct my daughter's toe-walking. Her paediatrician has assessed her toe walking as physical and not neurological and advised us that she needs physio exercises. What would you suggest. Thanks Shane and Michelle

Thanks guy. Just found you so I haven’t done your massage technique except for now while watching. My pain is extreme and lower than the areas you show. My pains is on the very back of my heel, about an inch up from the very bottom. Any tips for that.

Would these massage and stretching techniques also help with calcification of the Achilles?

been suffering from achilles tendonitis for years
woke up with very stiff achilles every day and would have to crab-walk for a few minutes to loosen them up
after a single day of doing cross friction massage, the sniffness disappeared
    thanks!

sounds like a tendinopathy to me. There are some more specific exercises out there for long-term injuries you might want to investigate for that condition. I'm still working on mine, but I'll be giving the cross friction massage a go for definite. as with all these things though, it's worth getting a professional opinion and working within the domain of what feels safe and comfortable.

I just returned to work for 4 days after being on disability.. I was squatting and had to pull a string/rope.. I hurt my knee very badly.. I could not stand on it, or straighten my leg etc.. I am now in physical therapy for it, they did an xray said spacing looks good, but I have yet had an MRI.. I can tell you the inside of my knee has tightness, and right now a little bit of pain here and there.. It's now been a little over 1 week... I finally can walk some without crutches.. BUT on day 4 after this happened. I was using my crutches, I stepped off a curb and went a little to quickly, and when I did my foot went down and caught myself on my toes.. I felt instant SHARP pain in the back where the archilles tendon is... very sharp..taking steps after that hurt.... I wanted to cry, , now my other foot/leg is hurt.. not every step was hurting,, and it seemed to kind of to not be as a stabbing pain, kind of going away,, but in therapy they had me on my toes, and I felt the sharp stabbing pain again,, then again today did it again, and it really hurt,, now after sleeping and waking up,, I needed to go to the bathroom, and it was sharp and stabbing pain trying to get up and walk,, I don't know what to think.. Could it be a rupture, a tear?? the major pain is when I am on my tip toes.and seemed to really aggravate it... I'm not sure what to do... please help me..

Will this help or be a safe option for Achilles’ tendon pain possibly due to the medication Cipro? I took 4 pills for an infection 5 months ago with no side effects. But the past month I’ve had some mild pain and discomfort in both tendons, I’ve never had issues before. I’m assuming it’s from the Cipro but I can’t see a dr right now. So would these remedies be safe to try?

Ive had this for about 2 years. Now the pain actually moved down from the achilles tendon itself and are centred at one side of the heel. You can both see and feel that there is a "lump" on the side. Just under the achilles tendon and to the side.
    Any suggestions for this?

How do you naturally reduce the chronic inflammation after you’ve had the condition for years? Ice dipping the joint several times a day? My full tendon is involved (half way up the calf). I’m using a Crosstrap Achilles strap to help isolate the Achilles so I can now actually stretch my calf w/o the Achilles instantly preventing it. So I can now work on stretching my full posterior chain but I’m trying to find a good way to reduce the inflammation naturally (w/o anti-inflammatories). Would taking collagen help?
