“Don’t confuse GA with Atlanta” facts 😩
Ong
Exactly. There's a huge huge difference.
Just like "New Orleans" and "Louisiana"🤣🤣
Atlanta just so happen to be the capital of Georgia. If you want to be 100 the county of Atlanta is Fulton County
What's the different New Birth?
I visited Atlanta many years ago when I was around 10 or 11. Its definitely BLACK black, a whole different vibe.... its not uncommon to see black celebrities in the same stores/malls as you on a daily basis.
You went to downtown then.
At the Lennox Mall u can!
Yea a ghetto vibe lol
I’m black but Atlanta was too much for me babyyyy

So many cities need to be part of this. Birmingham, Memphis, Jackson, New Orleans, Detroit, Chicago, L.A., New York, D.C., DFW, Houston, Miami, San Fran Bay Area, Philly, Boston, Hampton Roads, Baltimore, Charlotte, and others.
Cleveland
Noooo just Atlanta..
Agreed! Even midsized to small cities should be shown.

Ayee! Birmingham in the house! 🙋🏽♀️
They need to do a growing up black in DC/DMV segment. I think people often forget the DC area’s rich black heritage
Chocolate City!
I agree
I put Growing Up Black to see if it would pop up ....if they do it ( since they’ve done New Orleans and NY ) ...they need to not just spotlight KD
i agree with this

Yeah I felt bad for her because she became mayor at a bad time and got a bad rap from covid to police shooting and the baby that was Shot, it was alot plus they people she choose to have her back turned on her. It was sad to hear about.
If they do this for every major city, this show is gonna be successful

Atlanta is the perfect mix of everything, you get all that southern culture and charm, but also African American culture and art, plus whatever else got thrown in there
@dooks onu just say u racist
@dooks onu you dont even know who's African American or not so yes it's racist. Black people in America today are comprised of many more segments that you never mentioned when you pinned your complaint all onto one with no basis. U also said at first, "all African-Americans have done..." and then you said 90% and excluded it to your own community. That's only racism.
You're the only person who has said anything about white people, you're also the only person talking about anybody potentially thinking they're better than anyone and the only one relating "a culture of drugs," etc. to a race. Again, yes, that's racist.
@dooks onu but no I said you excluded it TO your community, not that you exluded your community. As in, your first statement implies you were referring to all of Atlanta but then you spoke specifically of how it is where you are. It is unclear if you do think the same of all other areas and if so, it is unclear if your reasoning is because of a sweeping generalization unnecessarily based off the people you know, which indeed would be racist.
Crack …at least I hear Atlanta has a crack problem
I loved growing up in metro Atlanta. Nothing like being surrounded by your people with many of the same experiences you've gone through.
“what would you do if you weren’t afraid to fail” damn i really needed to hear that
Factss, me too💯
Lawd this is what I needed to hear!!!!
I swear!!! Definitely inspiring 🙌
Meaning your not scared to fail?
If you stay within 30 miles of Atlanta, you stay in "Atlanta" That's an automatic unwritten rule. When you ask the follow up question, "What part?" That's when you find out the area they really live.
It's just easier to say Atlanta bc everyone knows Atlanta. You mess around and say Marietta off top to someone who don't live here and they have no clue.
I can respect your logic.but remember if you got your own mayor ,police, etc then your not from atl
Another great episode loving this content. Great variety of interviews, i love how this lets ppl not only tell their story about the city they are from but also talk about themselves in a way that you really don’t see anywhere else. Keep it up!
As an Atlanta native whose lived and grown up in the "A" since 2004, simply put-the cultural, political, and economic opportunities that Atlanta allots Blacks, e.g. Generational/Legacy Wealth, A history of Black mayors, and viable Entrepreneurship/Business opportunities is unlike any other major U.S. city. Best place to live hands down. So glad my parent chose this City vs. somewhere where I’d have to fight for these things.
As a Harlem native the black culture and love in NYC definitely exists however compared to Atlanta I feel like what us black New Yorkers are missing is that southern hospitality. We’re so individual whereas Atlanta seems like you can go up to any black person and treat them like you’ve known them your whole life. The volunteer work and giving back to the community is greatly larger in ATL but don’t get me wrong I love my city our culture is 🔥🔥 and it always will be.
It’s because most of y’all are immigrants. Southern hospitality is a black American thing
The fact that 2 mayors are on this black excellence program 🙌🏿🇺🇸🖤, keisha bottoms & newly elected Andre Dickens
This needs to be on TV... not Growing Up or Love and Hip Hop

This is a dope series idea. It wasn’t boring either. I didn’t check my phone not once 🤣. You can tell a lot of thought went into this. Great job.
Born and raised in College Park (SWATS stand up) Growing up the 80’s and 90’s you could only claim Atlanta if you were inside the perimeter. This Marietta is Atlanta thing is new to me... and no ma’am! Lolol

Atlanta and DC the only places I've been that I can say has an abundance of successful black entrepreneurs that make the city move. I've been blessed to go to most of the major cities and make money there. But Atlanta and DC are different when it comes to Black Excellence
True. DC is more classical, and old school.
Atlanta is more modern.

This short amazing documentary was amazing. What I have learned from this film is that we other cities can do way better along with ATL still striving Black Excellence. Right ATL is rising and never giving up on black folks business.
Politicians from around the world said texas will do great in the future except California because California is too diverse
As a black brit, i find this series so interesting! Please keep these up VH1, it would be great to see some other cities featured too :)
@HULKGRIN I’ve been there several times and have done my research. Run along now, thank you!
I moved to Atlanta in 2004 and met my now husband the following year. He was the 3rd person I had met that was actually born and raised in The A. Most ppl in Atlanta are not from here.
My husband graduated from Mayes as he would say although he and his sister went to college in Alabama he returned to Atlanta afterwards. When I came here from my small country town in Louisiana I knew this is where I was going to make a life for myself in meeting my husband we have done so. One of the best decisions in my life.
I’m SOOOO happy this was recommended 💛💛🙌🏿
80's-00s Atlanta was amazing you could literally work with an Atlanta salary and could actually own stuff. Now omg the place is expensive. I work a 6 figure job. Too me Charlotte and Raleigh is where Atlanta was 20 and 30 yrs ago thank goodness

Atlanta is basically the land of historical significance. With buildings like CNN Center, Georgia Aquarium, MLK Center and Centennial Olympic Park, defines who we are as blacks . I’ve lived in Atlanta for 3 years. #BlackExcellence
Buildings dont define us as black.... especially with all the gentrification that moves out the locals (usually black neighborhoods) and then raises taxes, builds expensive stores and restaurants, then the whites move in. It's called, "white flight" ..... been in atl for 31 years.
Maybe one day it'll just be excellence

@D M but if we speak that way were called racists. They want segregation. They want to cherry pick everything that comes with our culture of course all of these major us cities were once majority white. And the white cultures many of which were diverse have disappeared from these cities and been forgotten yet they dont care. The simple answer is they can't find black excellence everywhere because their communities amd culture are so far entrenched in ignorance and hypocrisy that they have allowed themselves to become the very thing they blame for their failures. Just a bunch of racists who change the definition of words in order to match their manipulative arguments.
