The Jesse James Attributed Schofield Revolver

- The outlaw Jesse James needs little introduction in the United States. The Civil War bushwhacker and guerilla continued his lawless ways after the bloody conflict, and became a nationally known robber of trains, banks, stages, and more. Together with his brother Frank, they lead the James-Younger Gang to a limelight that even their brutal murders couldn't dim.
Many guns throughout the years have been claimed to have been that of Jesse James, but few with any sort of historical backing. This Smith and Wesson First Model Schofield revolver brings with it a trio of supports that together make an excellent case that this revolver was once used by the James Gang with a strong likelihood that it was carried by Jesse himself.

"Shipped to Springfield armory" More like carted across town. the old armory and the S&W plant are both in Springfield, MA.
Legend has it his mother would buy guns and sell them as being owned/used by Jesse.
I've read that somewhere too.
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
I'm not sure but I think that was Billy the kids mom
Billy the kid’s mother died before he was famous
I've heard that too honestly why would you if you were her lol
If I had the quarter million dollars to spend on that gun,.. I’d want a hell of a lot more proof than is being offered….
I agree with you. The proof is lacking tremendously . I would never bid bid on it from the provenance provided. I'd only bid on the fact that it's a Smith $ Wesson Schofield and that's it.
Agreed. Jesse’s mother was constantly selling her son’s “guns” to tourists, so there’s a good chance this might be one of those.
I’m pretty sure he used that pistol
That’s not Jesse James gun, Mr. David Bauman of Texas has “THE “gun.

For what this gun will sell for Id want better provenance then what he has
Definitely seems likely it was a James gang gun. Just odd it’d have another member’s name on it. I wonder if he put it on there after Jesse’s death? Or did he carry it and not Jesse? I 99% believe it’s gang connected but not super convinced Jesse himself carried it. Either way still a fascinating piece of history being connected to the gang at all.
Your kidding right. This is the lamest province Iv'e ever heard of on any famous gun. It came in a left handed holster that looks similar to a right hand holster that Jesse is wearing in a picture. So What! The reason Jesse's name isn't under the grips is because it was never his gun. It belonged to the guy that stamped his name on it. And they are saying that A. H. Ryan is a known gang member. I haven't found this name in any of the history I've found. I think this statement is made up too.
Mr. David
You OWN the HOLY GRAIL OF ALL GUNS! I watched the History Channel twice of that gun! When you took the grips off that gun, I was like dang, that’s Jesses handwriting! And I’m no certified signature Authenticator, I’ve also seen a lot of JJ signatures, and even I can tell it’s JJ signature! I sure wish you could’ve received the paperwork for that gun. But it is true that Frank did get the gun from Zerelda, Jesses wife. Thank and God Bless
When i think of the Schofield Revolver and Jesse James, you get the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
violent people often meet violent ends
@@mikepette4422 though the person who killed will have a terrible reputation to others
My dad's dads side married into the James family my grandpas great aunt married Samuel James who was a close realitive to the James family and we're from the southern Indiana side that lead into Ohio and would travel back in fourth, So possibly The family from Ohio that has ties to them could be my grandpas family.
Can't wait to see what it brings at auction.
Provenance is a little thin.
I agree. It's like all the pictures that have surfaced in recent years purportedly of Billy the Kid. Sure a lot of them look like him, but there were a lot of young men who did so you can't go by that.
@@DK-gy7ll thanks Dk!
The provenance is more than a little thin. It hurts it more than it helps it.
I'm not buying the credentials, been to too many gun shows listening to all the BS lies and seeing all the obvious knockoffs
Good to know. I am curious on how these "credentials" are fake, would you care to elaborate?
@@paleoph6168 no reply , because he doesn't know
It all sounds weak to me.
Only thing that came out of Missouri that was good was Frank and Jesse James. They took it from da rich and gave it to da poor.
Beautiful
It's funny,Smith and Wesson did not like Schofield, didn't like making this gun.
Not so much the gun but Schofield himself. D.B. Wesson and George Schofield had a personality conflict hence the Schofield Model didn't see much promotion.
God BLESS Jesse James and DAMN the American Empire
That gun should be in a museum for all to admire, not in some private collection.
Tenuous and speculative attribution/provenance.
RIA ~ seriously ??? Where is Joel ?
We need a story.
Just for our information, what is the anticipated range ($$$$$) this revolver will fall into ???
@@martinstiastny7679 Pre-auction estimate is $125,000 - $250,000.
@@RockIslandAuctionCompany i agree on those estimates
If the provenance was closer to JJ,it could be 750k or more
This is not JJs gun, David Bauman has JJs S&W Scholfield

I don't beleive this
The pistol up for auction is of the time period that may have been used by Jesse James but to me three isn’t enough providence to say it truly was. Still a great piece of history.
Was Jesse James. Scofield 44 Russian or 4440 win
Neither. .45 Schofield was the only caliber this model was produced in.
The Schofield is a variation of the S&W No. 3 revolver. The primary difference is whether the top-break release is attached to the top of the frame (Schofield), or to the barrel (no. 3). The No. 3 was chambered in a wide variety of cartridges, including .44 American, .44 Russian, .45 Schofield, .45 Long Colt, and even .44 Henry. Smith and & Wesson sold a lot of No. 3 revolvers to the Russian military. I have a modern-day Schofield reproduction and it is a great shooter.
You never pay for the object, you pay for the provenance.
So did Bat Masterson.
Fascinating.
This isn't Jesse's revolver. Your provenance is based on a picture of a right hand holster that Jesse owned and this left hand holster is just similar in appearance. And the grip strap being stamped with A. H. Ryan probably means the gun belong to A. H.. Ryan not Jesse. Jesse probably never even held it in his hands.
I have a copy of this gun, very nice to hold and shoot, very quick to eject and reload, especially with a speed loader.
I have a nickel plated schofield in 45 colt, damn expensive, but damn beautiful!
That's Huhhhlarious Ryan had his name engraved on his gun incase some thief pinched it. 😂
