This quilt speaks to my heart every time I see it. Wish I were a quilter,.Sadly I'm just a fan of JordanFabrics, and Donna is by far the best quilting teacher ever.
I have learned SO much from your videos. The next time I'm in Grants Pass I will be there to shop shop shop. I'm planning on saving up a few hundred dollars to spend spend spend. There's nothing like touching the fabric and seeing it when you buy. You're very generous with your knowledge. I watch Jordan Fabrics every night before going to bed because it helps me relax. I call myself learning by osmosis! LOL!
Donna I really love quilts done this way, because it shows off the quilting stitch. Which makes it look very lovely. not distracting Thank you for this tutorial.
I've never thought of making a quilt like this Donna, it would be brilliant for my son who likes no fuss quilts. It looks amazing with the quilting on it. Thank you so much for showing us an alternative way of giving a beautiful give for a no fuss person. Thank you to you and all your team for another fantastic tutorial and the help you show us all How's the best way of putting the quilts together. You're the best quilting demonstrater on u- tube. Kathleen from ENGLAND
Thanks. Awesome demo of a longarm in use. I must admit I've never seen the process from start to finish. Sure wish I lived closer so I could visit your store. Also, Donna I appreciate that you take the time to explain everything so clearly. Love the videos.
THIS. IS. STUNNING. Donna your mind is incredible (not to mention your design and math skills, but that's another post). I never thought of doing less is more, except on my quilt backs. The flower quilting on this is the BOMB - in the BEST way. My favorite color is aqua and this is dazzling. I also love you idea of looking at a wedding registry for color ideas. You're an amazing lady. Thank you for sharing yourself, skills and family with us.
Beautiful! At first I thought the fabrics were kind of flat but after the quilting, the fabric blossomed like the rose flower you used. Very elegant. Thanks for sharing.
The no patchwork quilt ... elegant. All quilts are beautiful, but this is strictly elegantly beautiful ... a wedding gift to beat all wedding gifts ... one that will most likely assure to be 'one of a kind'. Also, very smart checking out the wedding register to find out the favorite colors of the couple. You have opened up an all new area for the special gift that will be gratefully accepted and used constantly. Thank-you!
Donna ... Thank you so very much for doing a follow up to my question about pressing the seam open when we don't have long fingernails due to work. I appreciate the time that you took to demonstrate some alternatives. Your videos and teaching techniques are some of the best I've seen to date. Thanks again!
Great idea! I think as quilters we think everyone likes/should like patchwork. This is a great option. I have been to your store and you graciously greeted me. Your fabric selection is wonderful! I'm from PA and your shop was the Only fabric shop I had my husband stop at during our time in Oregon. Love your videos and the clarity of seeing what you do and how you do it.
Donna I’ve watched so many of your piecing and quilting videos I feel like i know you personally. You are an exceptional educator, designer, quilter , and amazing business woman .... and I’m sure your husband is equally talented as well, even though we dont see him as often. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiration! Love this video especially since my long term goal is a long arm quilting business....From a quilt/sew sister in Kentucky!
You are a super star! Thank you for showing the workings of the quilt machine. There’s more to it than I thought; I was fascinated and think I’ll watch it again. Thanks for all you teach us.
I was thinking of exactly what you showed today. You always amazed me. All the different quilts you do. You are special and give me such pleasure, in your creations and teaching. Thank you so much.
I LOVE this quilt!!! Can you please do something like this again? It was a miracle that I even found this 🤗😊 I thought that I had seen all of your video tutorials until I stumbled upon this one😉👍😘 Although I love all of the patchwork quilt designs-this was a real eye opener & you may be surprised to see that other followers would enjoy & be inspired by something like this 😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks for this tutorial. I've only trained on and made one quilt (queen size) using the computerized longarm machine at a local quilting and fabric shop. That was in January and I've forgotten the procedure, but your tutorial brought it all back. I will be watching this one a few times to jog my memory. Thank you. Your tutorials make it so easy to learn new stuff.
HI Donna, You hit the nail on the head with your last statement. 'it wont get put away in a cupboard it will get used'!!! I have spent a long time making my first 2 quilts, one each for my grandchildren ( 1 and 3 years old) and I thought the colours would be nice and bright for them. The thing was, it wasn't for the parents. They like things clean, subdued and subtle, so both quilts have been put away and the children won't probably see them until they leave home - sad really as I was rather pleased with them. Lesson learnt and next time it will think more about 'Sometimes Less is More'! Thank you - sorry I know this was published ages ago but I've only just found you and I'm playing catch up.
I found that tutorial absolutely fascinating...just loved the whole process from choosing the fabric to the finished stunning quilt...thank you so much.👍😘
Great video, I never thought of quilting this way, makes a lot of sense. Especially when you don't know what the person likes. Most everyone would like this quilt, I know I would!
I loved the quilt, but I really loved how you showed putting the backing, batting and top on the quilting machine. Thank you so much for all the amazing tutorials. God Bless you and your wonderful family. You are such and inspiration.
This was one of the most helpful videos you've done. Thanks so much!!!! I am a beginner long armer and hop around you tube looking for a start to finish quilt just like this. It's very hard to find. I get your emails daily and LOVE all of them, but this is my new fav. Donna, you are the BEST!!!!
As a newbie to quilting and patchwork, I love to UTube the subject. My first project is a Folded log cabin and wondered if you had ever done one. I am a Pom who has lived in Australia for almost 30 years and in my retirement, am quickly becoming addicted to quilting. Out of all the subscriptions, yours are very clear and instructive, love them. Have travelled widely in your lovely country, but haven't yet made it to Oregon. On my bucket list. Keep up the lovely tutorials.... Janet
I love that you did this 'less is more'. it kind of breaks barriers. So many people find patchwork messy or confusing (hush my mouth!!), I personally LOVE all patchwork quilts but this is a really cool alternative in gift giving. Having a longarm such as yours is one of my goals! Thank you for showing us a great demonstration of how it is done.
Greetings from England. I am loving your videos and learning so much, Thank you. I come from the North East of England and the tradition here was for whole cloth quilts so this was lovely to see😀
I'm glad I watched this video. My wife likes doing the patchwork part but I don't. I'd rather do the long arm quilting part and see everything come together quickly. I can see myself doing what you have shown here while awaiting my wife's next quilt top. Thanks Donna!
My goodness, the simplest ideas are so often the best. I love how you used a dumbell to weigh down the ruler and the spoon to flatten out the seam, brilliant. I've been wanting to make a whole cloth quilt for awhile and after seeing the end result of your tutorial am certainly going to give it a go. I've also got a Gammill Longarm (not computerizer, unfortunately), and have had a lot of pleasure and some headaches with it (no fault of the machine, just the operator trying to learn how to use it) Loved this tutorial, thanks so much for sharing.
loved this video. I'm so glad you actually showed the work involved in loading a quilt on the long arm. I've always been a fan of whole cloth quilts, that pattern is particularly pretty on those fabrics. Thanks for sharing.
Donna you rock!!! OMGosh! How great is that to be able to have a great quilting machine that you can program and let it do the quilting. Thank you for showing us how you do it. Yes, less is more and you surely know how to make fabric sing....you are the Cloth Whisperer.....
This is RIGHT UP MY ALLEY! I purchased a solid color yardage for a king size bedspread (not comforter) many months ago. It is a dark beige, and I am going to quilt a large rose pattern on it. It may be the same one. THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing me how gorgeous it will be!!!
Joy When you purchased the solid yardage for a king size bedspread , how did you find the fabric large enough to make it in one piece , I can never find the yardage big enough for king size that I don't have to piece it ,How did your bedspread come out using the rose
I loved the tutorial. You explain everything so that experienced quilters and beginner quilters understand exactly what you are doing. My goodness the beautiful quilt you made. I just started quilting and have made about 8 quilts now on my basic Brother sewing machine. Now I can set a goal to upgrade to a long arm quilter some time in the future. Thanks again Donna for taking the time to teach us!
Good luck with your quilting. I have only done a few quilts but I bought a quilt frame. I've never thought of making a quilt without patchwork, but yours is AWESOME!!!! I just loved the quilting pattern. Thank you for your demo - I see a new quilt in my future without patchwork :)
Thank you Donna, I just bought a Gammill Vision 2 18/8 Long Arm with a 10ft table. I had a practice piece on it from the store I purchased it from and have done some practicing. Lots of issues with this place the thread got caught, this jumped out of place in the traveling. (we have a toy hauler that will be my workroom and I will be able to travel to various parts of the country to visit with family and friends for extended periods and still have my workroom with me) I value your tutorials as you are thorough, yet do not waste a lot of time on stuff that is self explanatory. You say it and then move on. I watched this video last year when I was looking at the long arm and knew what I wanted. Now that I have it, I have to load a quilt top that I made that is a Cozy Quilt design that you actually did a video on. I used purple and oranges that I purchased from you online. It will be my first experience with a full quilt on the long arm. I'm nervous and needed to see someone put one on the machine. I was going to the Gammill website and ran across your video on you tube again and watched it. It makes so much more sense now that I actually have a machine and have worked with it a little. I am curious what thread you use. I think I want to use polyester as I have made many quilts on my regular machine and the cotton does not hold up over time as well as I'd like. I see you picking colors often and wonder what brand you use. Thank you again for your wonderful guidance and I will be stopping by your store when we travel north to family in Idaho and Montana. I do hope you are available at that time so you can see my set up. Thanks again, Rosetta

Wow, I love that quilt . I am going to make that using those two colors. I have looked all over the place for something like this. I have no idea why I didn’t think about doing this before now, but it is the perfect solution. I really enjoy your tutorials. Thank you !!
What a wonderful idea. I never thought of doing anything like this but I have some really nice pantographs (I don’t have computerized), but the panto would look great. You are so creative and I love your tutorials.
Hi Donna. It's 2020 and I'm just seeing this method for the first time. WOW It looks great. Appreciate your expertise and willingness to share. Thanks.
Wonderful idea! I have long been a fan of monochromatic:)) You've done a fabulous job of showing it's beauty! How many of us have gotten too wound up with "prints" then have trouble getting them all together... Great job:) GB
So many great tips! I especially love the idea of splitting the backing fabric so you don’t have one seam, you have two. Much more evenly quilted. Another new subscriber💖🌸😘🦄
Absolutely stunning...and i love the rose and leaves quilting you did on the entire quilt. I simply adore this quilt and would display it on my bed-top with such honour.
WOW...thank you for sharing this. It may sound silly but I feel you have given me and probably a lot of other people permission to do this. I never thought of doing this style of quilting, never would have even thought of doing the side seams. I probably would have gone with a centre seam. I know it's silly but thanks again for given me the go ahead to do this. And I must say...the two colours you picked out were great.
Thank you so much for always having such good and useful videos. I have been thinking about making whole cloth quilts for nieces and nephews but was not sure they would look nice. That quilt was just beautiful. My long arm has hundreds of pattern options, cannot wait to get started. Thanks again, have a great week.
That was truly inspirational! You are my favourite RUclips quilting tutor, always so calm and explain everything so well. I have a longarm quilting machine but I can’t afford to buy the computer for it yet. I’ll get there one day. Do you ever cover long arm free motion quilting? Thank you.
I really like how that turned out. I was surprised. It's kind of understated and stitching made all the difference. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Maybe at some point I can get up to Oregon...it's a long way from Central Texas! Or maybe I can catch you at a quilt show or something. I loved seeing the long arm process from the beginning.
As usual, a wonderful and inspiring tutorial. I wish I could visit Oregon one day and visit you and your store. Toronto ,Canada is quite faraway and even more so, today
many viewings of this tutorial for me, learning each time. you started out with something plain... and made it so beautiful, just with quilting an a pattern ! winter is here, so no travels for me.... some day tho ! Happy Quilting 🌷🌷🌷🌷
Beautiful quilt! A tutorial on how to determine the amount of fabric needed for the size quilt you want and how to cut/position would be very helpful. I struggle with those sorts of calculations. Thanks so much.
Thank you for the great idea about a single color quilt. Now I know what I am going to make my Sister in Law for Christmas. Love your videos. I will make certain when I am traveling between WA and CA to stop by and say Hi!!! take care...
In my grandparents times we had a lot of non-patched-quilts in German beds. We called them Steppdecken. It means stiched plaids. My projekts are always non-quilted patchworks.
We call these Welsh or Durham quilts in the UK, the style of doing the quilting stitches onto a plain fabric background. Traditionally it was done by hand of course. Nice to see it done in a more modern way.
I use a wallpaper seam roller to press my seams. It’s made of wood and I bought it from a hardware shop for about $12.00 (New Zealand). Works a treat and it saves my arthritic index finger! 😁🌹❣️

Donna I really love quilts done this way, because it shows off the quilting stitch. Which makes it look very lovely. not distracting Thank you for this tutorial.
The Jordans, you are one of the few RUclips channels of any type I subscribe to. All very interesting. But this very 'off piste'. I love it.
I’ve always wanted to see the long arm in more detail. Thanks Donna.

That was truly inspirational! You are my favourite RUclips quilting tutor, always so calm and explain everything so well. I have a longarm quilting machine but I can’t afford to buy the computer for it yet. I’ll get there one day. Do you ever cover long arm free motion quilting? Thank you.
Let us know when you open the store back up. It’s on my bucket list.
Stunning, love it !!
Very interesting. Thank you. I couldn't have imagined how beautiful a whole-cloth quilt could be. Great job!
Thanks for the detailed commentary on the process. You always have great tips!

So interesting to see the long arm quilting machine in action, thanks! I appreciate that you both take time to explain what you're doing and why.
Simply lovely. Less is definitely more.
Absolutely fantastic fabrics and sharing of information, many thanks, Jess
This quilt is absolutely beautiful 💖
Beautiful quilt! A tutorial on how to determine the amount of fabric needed for the size quilt you want and how to cut/position would be very helpful. I struggle with those sorts of calculations. Thanks so much.
awesome idea, I see many quilt gifts to ppl in my future..... Thanks and one day when I drive from portland to medford I will stop by
Fascinating process!
Thank you for the great idea about a single color quilt. Now I know what I am going to make my Sister in Law for Christmas. Love your videos. I will make certain when I am traveling between WA and CA to stop by and say Hi!!! take care...
We would love to have you visit our retail store - we are only several blocks off of I-5
Thanks Donna so much. I love all your videos.
I've never seen this done before. Wow! Tks for sharing....what an investment 👍🏻👏🏻
Love seeing how you load and baste on your Gammill.
Beautiful ❤️ work with your quilting
Loved this video. Beautiful quilt and I've wanted to see more of your quilting process for quite a while now.
I use a wallpaper seam roller to press my seams. It’s made of wood and I bought it from a hardware shop for about $12.00 (New Zealand). Works a treat and it saves my arthritic index finger! 😁🌹❣️
