I’m a huge fan of anything Brady bunch.
All of this is OLD news. Actually Robert showed up on the set for the last episode. It was decided NOT to have security remove him, as it would surely upset the rest of the cast. The 'honesty" that Robert imbued in the Mike Brady character is what helped make the show. He also paid for a trip for the cast to go to England! What a nice fellow he was.

Part of the reason it remains "popular" is that half-hour shows are a lot easier to air in syndication than hour shows. Or, if you have an hour to fill, run two back-to-back and make it a selling point.
There are a lot of shots of the homes exterior that show it clearly as a one story rancher. When we see the interior there is clearly a flight of stairs going up to a second floor of a two story home. Impossible.
I was lil watching this show, I wished I had this family, as a kid of divorce. I feel so bad that Robert Reed had to hide but I can't help but love this show for the family aspect.
I understand why he had to because at the time it would've ruined his career. I've once read that many people had been fired from jobs such as teaching when they were revealed as gay!
I grew up watching the Brady Bunch in the mid 70s and 80s and I absolutely loved this show!! Never knew there were so many behind-the-scenes romances and despite Robert Reed being gay those kids adored him tremendously!! LOTS of fond memories is all I have of this ICONIC TV show.
I would tend to agree with you. Except that Robert Reed was a Shakespearean actor whose fame as Mike Brady, typecast him, costing him roles that would’ve been more to his skill and preference.
@@michaelmckenna6464 Dimes to doughnuts he took the role because he needed the money. He did the show for how long? The typecasting already happened before the finale.
The Brady Bunch was one of my favorite shows growing up. It dealt with issues and problems most families with kids experience and how those problems get solved. The entire cast worked perfectly together. Romance between cast members is not unusual as they are together most of the time. Florence and Robert were talented actors and made the perfect mom and dad. I was surprised to hear Robert Reed was married to a woman for five years in the early 60's and has a daughter. Although Reed was Gay, it was a time when being Gay was frowned upon and he kept his private life hidden from the public. Many actors Rock Hudson, that were/are Gay is still often hidden due to prejudices and religious beliefs by many. I've enjoyed The Brady Bunch over the years and is still on cable today. Long live The Brady Bunch ! ! !
@@FactsVerse I couldn't name my favorite one, two, five of fifteen episodes of The Brady Bunch as they were all great, educational, and dealt with issues parents and children deal with every day at home, school, with friends and in real life.
Robert Reed was a terrific actor, but he serves as a reminder of the need to stay in your lane. He was a principal actor in a popular sitcom, but he wasn’t - to my limited knowledge - hired as a writer, producer or director for the series. That meant that his views of what the show should be and what constitutes better and worse comedy were unwanted and out of place. This is a life lesson for many of us - staying in our lane can be hard (and damaging on the ego), but it’s a critical part of working effectively.
Robert Reed was probably a very likable man considering that the children, being teenagers with that arrogant streak and indestructible mindset that comes with adolescence, not to mention a disrespect towards grownups, never tried to put him on the spot, It was after all the early 1970s and still a dangerous time for an actor to be exposed as gay, especially in a family oriented sitcom.
Not one thing was mentioned in this video that any fan of this show didn’t know. Incidentally, according to Florence Henderson, Robert Reed actually did show up on set for the series final episode, but got into a huge altercation with Sherwood Schwartz over the script and had to be asked to leave the set. When Reed refused, Schwartz had threatened to have security guards remove him, but decided against it because it would’ve negatively affected the kids. Reed, according to Henderson, watched the whole filming of the episode from the wings, fuming the entire time.
none of these surprised me, I knew them already. Weird fact: While Robert Reed didn't appear in the last episode, he was there on the set, rumoured to have been grumbling about how outlandish & ridiculous the story was ,
Robert would go to the bar across the street, get sloshed and meet young boys. He often came back to the set inebriated and bad tempered. That said, he played his part perfectly.
We've heard plenty of stories about scandals on The Brady Bunch set, which stands the reason why both Don Fedderson and Fred MacMurray didn't allow such similar distractions to derail the filming of episodes of My Three Sons. Of course, the Livingston brothers, Stanley and Barry, happen to be friends with The Brady Bunch cast and Maureen McCormick also appeared in the "Ernie the Bluebeard" episode of M3S in 1967, along with Claire Wilcox, before both of them appeared again in the Brady episode, "The Liberation of Marcia Brady", 4 yrs. later!!!
Robert Reed was a perfectionist. He insisted that no southern California residence could have a payphone. Until someone found a loophole and discovered that Santa Monica, California residences could have a payphone!
Robert Reed was a perfectionist! He insisted that strawberries had no smell. He insisted on the line that the kitchen looked like strawberry paradise instead of smelling like paradise.

Sad they didn't work out but both are happy living normal lives. Peter Brady was my favorite. I loved the show as a child. I only saw reruns because I was born in 1979.
Barry Williams' book "Growing up Brady" includes many of these facts, plus a lot more. Written in the 1990s. According to the book, all the kids dated their counterparts. Another thing they didn’t touch base was the fact that the final episode in which Reed wasn’t in, would of prevented him from returning had there been a sixth season. There were rumors of a recast with another actor playing Mike Brady.
Thanks to much viewing of previous stories regarding cast of The Brady's I've learnt all of what was revealed in this episode through other sources. But ya-ll did a nice job. No surprise that Reed chose to keep quiet about his sexual identity, most leading men where either bi or homosexual and it was not popular to be seen as effeminent.
1- Mike and Susan didn't "make out". It was just a kiddy crush (puppy love) it meant nothing at all. 2- Florence WAS just innocently humoring Barry by having dinner with him. The tabs had no right to take something innocent and blow it WAY out of proportion! She didn't deserve that. 3- The finale. It was suggested that Reed be escorted forcefully off stage by security. Shwartz said "not in front of those kids.". Robert always hated the part but accepted it. He was unable to find SERIOUS roles to play since the morons stereotyped him so he was forever branded Mike Brady. I am shocked beyond belief that he agreed to do the corny variety hour. He must have been very desperate. He was great in the movies, though. Only Florence appeared on the "Brady Brides". It is interesting that it was Jan who followed her "dad's" footsteps and became an architect. Greg? A doctor? Greg. Became a doctor Marsha became a fashion designer Peter became a business man (and married his beautiful boss). In the Christmas episode, Cindy said, if the idiot won't ask you, as the idiot!" Jan became the architect Bobby became a race car driver until his accident which inspired one if the movies Cindy became a radio announcer. Alice got married to Sam the butcher Carol sold real estate.
You mean you couldn't care less. I agree with you that their private lives are none of our business and I don't care either. This channel exploits and disrespects others' privacy.
quitting was what got me for reed My Mother told me about him Being Gay when I was watching the show. I now got the whole story about Barry and Florence, yet did not know about Greg and Marcia
Still love this channel, but not much new here as far as "trivia"! The one point that Reed's suspension from the final episode tarnished as his image as America's "perfect dad" was that it made him look like a jerk for actually allowing a "business trip out of town" as it was said make him actually miss his first born's high school graduation!
I’ll never forget Carol saying that to Gregg, “too bad your father was on a business trip out of town and had to miss it.” Too cringeworthy. Sherwood should’ve just compromised and rewrote the script. It really was a stupid episode. Also, I think it’s true that Robert Reed actually DID show up on the set for the shooting, but created a scene with Schwartz and almost got removed from the set by security. Reed actually stayed off camera and watched the taping, fuming the whole time. This was according to an interview I saw with Florence Henderson.
@@deejay8403 even more cringe worthy of that was the stupid bit in the final lines about "Why don't you turn your attic room into a guest room for your cousin Oliver?!"
Most of this has been known for sometime; I.e. Greg's crush on Florence with her taking him on one date, and Robert Reed's homosexuality. I wouldn't really call them 'Scandals' rather "Did you Knows" or something to that affect. Robert Reed did a great job playing the father. What T.V. show ever existed with the actor/actresses didn't have some spats with the producer (HELLO MASH AT THE 4077!!)
The episode where Greg's hair was dyed orange wasn't a "prank." Bobby was selling bottles of so-called "hair tonic," and Greg bought one to humor Bobby. As everybody now knows, the stuff turned Greg's hair orange. Whoever wrote the copy for this video needs to do better research.
Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island we both of my #1 favorite TV shows and remains that way today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew all of this except for the fact that Mike and Susan had a thing for each other?!?! Bobby and Cindy?!?! That I didn't know!! Seems all weird now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish that some how when Robert Reed died, they could have had a movie or something like that showing his funeral with all of them around!! Oh well, too late for that idea now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't surprised at all to know he was a closet gay but I was surprised to hear that he quit the season finale that was widely known about his sexuality
@@harperstacey9604 he wasn't in the Season 4 episode "Goodbye, Alice Hello " either because he thought it was stupid for Alice to quit her job as the Bradys housekeeper because the kids treated her like garbage!
Even though she knew he was gay, florence henderson was constantly throwing herself at Robert Reed. Florence was also sleeping around with other men, although she had a husband. Florence henderson ended up catching crabs from an extramarital affair. I read all of this in florence's autobiography.
It’s no shocker that Reed was a closet gay it’s common knowledge especially after he died of aids now walking off on the last episode shocking then again I can get his future roles being a total departure from the Brady role. Robert Reed played some mean characters the one of him in Charlie’s Angels playing the manipulative Glen Stanley that’s certainly a good example
Yes If you see The TV Movie of Growing up Brady you even see how he was arguing on the set while it was being filmed and he refused to appear and Sherwood Schwartz said "Alright then if you don't want to appear then you don't have to appear."But the catch was that if there had been a 6th season then he'd have been written out.I read of this beforehand on a Nick@Nite Calendar pad.
I always thought there was something off about him. He came out like in the 70s and did some shows where he played gay a little too well! My favorite episode is when Marcia takes a plain girl named Molly and made her pretty!
I recall an episode about Jessie James one of boys became a fan of Jessie James his father tried to set him straight on this outlaw it was a serious story on the show and actually had someone who knew Jessie James appear on this episode and it dealt with this quite seriously I believe the actor who played Mike was also related to someone who was shot by Jessie James so was revealed later?
Yeah! That was a good one. It went over Bobby's head in the movie, when Jesse James abducted the woman and Bobby thought Jesse James was doing good to give her a ride on his horse!
I knew all of these for years. I read a bunch of Brady Bunch books.

No surprise that Reed chose to keep quiet about his sexual identity, most leading men where either bi or homosexual and it was not popular to be seen as effeminent.
From I heard Robert Reed didn’t appear in the last episode but he was watching the whole episode as it was taped on the side
No wonder ree liked the Brady bunch
Starts at 1:40
Am I the only one who has never watched this?
Probably
Absolutely not!!
No I never watched it either
The Brady Bunch or Facts Verse?!?!
I'm guessing there are a handful more but not many. I've never watched an episode of Downton Abby (or as I like to call it Downtown Abby .)
These things are hardly scandals and most are pretty well known.
What Happened to Sam The Butcher Alice's Boyfriend ? 8:11
Never knew the younger cast made out in the dog house.
There is nothing about TV that surprises me.
Greg? A doctor?
Greg. Became a doctor
Marsha became a fashion designer
Peter became a business man (and married his beautiful boss). In the Christmas episode, Cindy said, if the idiot won't ask you, as the idiot!"
Jan became the architect
Bobby became a race car driver until his accident which inspired one if the movies
Cindy became a radio announcer.
Alice got married to Sam the butcher
Carol sold real estate.
I could care less about someone's private life. It's none of my business.
You mean you couldn't care less. I agree with you that their private lives are none of our business and I don't care either. This channel exploits and disrespects others' privacy.
I knew that Robert Reed was gay but I didn't that he refused do the last show
quitting was what got me for reed My Mother told me about him Being Gay when I was watching the show. I now got the whole story about Barry and Florence, yet did not know about Greg and Marcia
Thanks for watching, William!
How many parents in real life had to miss their child's high school graduation because of a out of town business trip?
Most of this has been known for sometime; I.e. Greg's crush on Florence with her taking him on one date, and Robert Reed's homosexuality. I wouldn't really call them 'Scandals' rather "Did you Knows" or something to that affect. Robert Reed did a great job playing the father. What T.V. show ever existed with the actor/actresses didn't have some spats with the producer (HELLO MASH AT THE 4077!!)
saddened about those 2 turn of events w Reed.
It's really sad, BeT
The episode where Greg's hair was dyed orange wasn't a "prank." Bobby was selling bottles of so-called "hair tonic," and Greg bought one to humor Bobby. As everybody now knows, the stuff turned Greg's hair orange. Whoever wrote the copy for this video needs to do better research.
Never knew about Murreen Mccormic and drug problem.
I've always knew Robert Reed was gay. And I think alot of stand did too. But he was such a great actor that no one cared.
I don't care, either. I just enjoy his performances.
I knew that Robert Reed was gay .An that he didnt like the writing for the last episode A Hair Brained Scheme.
LOVE that show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Susan olsen named her son Michael because of mike lookinland who played Bobby Brady.
@@harperstacey9604 didn't know that
@@racingmach1 susan olsen had big crush on Mike lookinland.
Greg had a thing for Carol.
I, too, read ALL of these stories a long time ago. Yawn. Love those Bradys-good or bad, straight or gay!
I wasn't surprised at all to know he was a closet gay but I was surprised to hear that he quit the season finale that was widely known about his sexuality
He quit the last episode because he thought the plot about Greg's hair turning orange was stupid.
@@bobdepaola7828 the Brady kids were growing up and the show was on its last legs.
@@harperstacey9604 he wasn't in the Season 4 episode "Goodbye, Alice Hello " either because he thought it was stupid for Alice to quit her job as the Bradys housekeeper because the kids treated her like garbage!
@@melissacooper4282 that was pretty dumb of him to think Alice would stay as the children turned on her.
I knew Chris Knight aka Peter Brady. He was one of my bank customers and real nice guy
Did you get his autograph? Did he talk about the Brady bunch?
You have sunk to a new low by the final question
Robert Reed as being gay was one of them as a scandal .
What about Jan, ( Eve Plumm ) . No mention about her ???
She is the cleanest one on the show
Why did Robert Reed agree to do the show when he hated the scripts?
The pay was good.
His manager probably told him to show up for the audition and he probably assumed that the show would not last as long as it did.
Years later we got Step by Step
Step by step couldn't hold a candle to the Brady bunch.
The show went down hill after tiger left the cast due to low pay
Tiger was run over by a studio Jeep ...
@@sking2173 I was aware of that. But thanks
I knew all that already
Yes If you see The TV Movie of Growing up Brady you even see how he was arguing on the set while it was being filmed and he refused to appear and Sherwood Schwartz said "Alright then if you don't want to appear then you don't have to appear."But the catch was that if there had been a 6th season then he'd have been written out.I read of this beforehand on a Nick@Nite Calendar pad.
Thanks for watching, Stephen!
God I loved Cindy and Marsha
I always thought there was something off about him. He came out like in the 70s and did some shows where he played gay a little too well! My favorite episode is when Marcia takes a plain girl named Molly and made her pretty!
The Brady bunch always was before and after the TV series. Ask me, I know firsthand.
Thanks for sharing, Mike!
I knew about all of this.
Jesse James was a male, so his first name was not spelled "Jessie."
A shame about Maureen McCormick- she didn't age well- glad she is better now
Read her book I couldn’t put it down, her real family was nothing like the Brady’s
