    Great video! It's RCL's oldest shit (1996) so it's not really a fair comparison to most of the newer ships. However, it still has all the amenities you need for a cruise. I hope one day the cruise industry in general starts spending more attention to upgrading the rooms on older ships during renovations. RCL's upgrades recently solely focused on additions to the ships for more entertainment. However, it would be great to see them makeover their older ships and add room features on par with Oasis class ships (USB ports, etc).

      Agree. The older ships are nice to get a break from the larger ships but yes they do need some TLC. Small features like the USB ports at the bed side would be a game changer. They could easily swap out the light fixture at the bed side and replace it with one that has an integral receptacle and USB port just like many hotels have.

    I was in the cabin right next to you, 8538 closest to the atrium. Last time I sailed on her in 2005 there was a nice library there where you could sit and watch the ocean go by, looks like they made them into more rooms. Love this ship though, I had many great times on her and the Majesty of the Seas. Going on Voyager for the first time next month!

    Sorry to say you actually don't earn double Crown & Anchor points when its an upgrade through RoyalUp :/

    • @ClaireandMichael
      @ClaireandMichael  Год назад +2

      Yes we figured that out after the fact. They only give you points based on your original booking not the RoyalUp.

    I hate to break it to you, but you do not get double points on a royal up bid. Check it out with C&A. This from Royal Up terms page: "Accepted offers will earn Crown & Anchor points at the original stateroom category purchased, and not the category of the upgraded stateroom."

    Much bigger and “fancier” on Navigator of the Seas. No support pole! This video shows why you should choose what you can afford and stick with it!

      Navigator is a newer ship. JS on newer ships are larger. For the time that GR was built, the JS is big and it's bigger than the cabins below it in other categories. Pretty sure we've had that cabin or one next door to it. Been on GR about 8 times.

    Not worth the extra price. A balcony room on level 7 is a better deal. We just returned from this ship, 11/24/2023. If you're considering the upgrade, or even bidding for the upgrade. I almost bid to upgrade, because I like to spoil my wife, but backed off when you realize you get assigned, with no say in location. With the balcony room, I picked the room. The bigger tub is probably the only real upgrade value. The room is a little bigger, and balcony a little bigger, yes. But compared to the balcony room, its not really worth the extra price. My wife and I had plenty of room, and sat on the balcony often. Never felt it needed to be wider. 2 problems with bidding to upgrade. 1. you lose control over where it ends up. Could have an obstructed view. 2. the price. Big jump in price, but not an equal amount of upgrade. Another thing is that puts you on deck 8, which is right under the pool area, so you will hear chairs being moved all day, late night by staff, and early morning by staff. The higher up, the more you feel the ship move as well, though from 7 to 8 isn't a big difference. On the Grandeur, being their oldest and smallest ship, you will feel the ship move more. The higher you are, or closer to the bow, the more you feel the waves. Honestly, I typed this after pausing the video a couple minutes into it. But it sounds like your negatives were the same I thought. I'm glad I saved the money and didn't upgrade.

    Love your vlogs! Please keep vloging. We are going on the Lady G in December JS 7650 (corner suite I have been trying to get for years). This will be our first cruise as Platinum C&A and our second time on the Lady G. We love its size and seems like a quieter crowd as well as fewer people. We videoed our JS 1706 on the Liberty a few years ago ruclips.net/video/ySBTaL3cdKY/видео.html . We hope to do a small room specific video on the Dec 11-16 sailing. We enjoy picking our own room and always have had great trips on the extreme Aft junior suites. The JS is a bit larger and a bit more $$ but we have jumped up in the C&A society much faster booking the junior suites. The perks of being a higher status member doesn't really kick in until diamond and above status but we plan on getting there in the next 20 years before retirement. Our retirement plans are sailing 4-5 weeks per year. Then we can get one of those Grand Suites or Owners Suites!
