Great effort in appalling conditions Jon. I hate wind full stop. I play crown green bowls in the Summer as well as fish and in one game gusts of wind were literally taking 2lbs 10oz bowls up to 24" off the line. Everyone was trying to bowl up and down on the edge behind an 8" privet hedge.

Great vid John but not so sure about silver only match on a carp water. Can only think of all those carp with hook lengths trailing as people will go for the break to save time 🤔
It’s a tough one but thankfully fish can shed barbless hooks easily. No different to fishing a river for roach and hooking chub or barbel out of the blue, but you’d probably have a barbed hook instead. You have to gear up for the target species and cannot cater for every eventuality else you’d only use 6lb-10lb+ line everywhere you went. I think the wind meant more carp than normal were on the feed and that’s also why silverfish matches are usually only held in the coldest of months when carp are less active.
Jon I don’t know how you stayed the course!! To fish a pole in such conditions show an enormous amount of skill I would have been long gone!!! Really well

Never fished moorlands, ,but always a task to stay clear of carp under any conditions on such a prolific venue, but with that kind of hoollie blowing , the writing was always on the wall..
However once again a pick up, which it has to be , you'd be in trouble with the missus if not ...I mean work is work, I was out in it too, only mine is Gardening 🙄 see you soon ...k

You deserved at least a higher place for perseverance! Catching roach, skimmers, rudd, perch and carp not to mention those bleepers, in those conditions from a peg you didn’t really want shows your class! Brilliant!

Nice one john. Shocking weather. I will fish in anything but strong winds makes things so difficult for presentation. Should have had a tin of silver spray paint o hand for all thoughts F1 and carp 😂

I personally think this years ticket system was flawed from the outset. Everyone should have had one ticket then open it all up on a second round of applications. It has worked previous years so very disappointed theyve taken a backwards step. However this year was a complete free for all and the anglers who put the effort in got some and there was no preferential treatment, so one could argue it was totally fair, albeit totally ruthless as well. I certainly deserved to get a minimum of five that day!
