When editor of the mags I contacted Jon on several occasions over the years. I ask for advice on poles/rods etc major purchases. Now at that time I was on a tight budget so couldn't afford to waste money on poor purchase's. Jon gave me totally independent advice and t.b.h because of him I NEVER WASTED A SINGLE POUND... So cheers Jon, much appreciated. Your a star sir. 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Well done Jon... MEGA!! Always enjoy the vids, especially now... Locked down in a very Sunny Wales, fridge full of bait and stuck in. Cracked open a beer, watched this vid a felt normal for an hour... Thank you😊.
persistence pays off... even tho ive not match fished since about 1985, im still enjoying your vids like i am there kinda, without all the pallarver of setting up etc.... also i cannot believe how much gear you take nowdays.... i can feel meself wanting to get out again... but im not fussed about match fishing anymore... but i will still fish the match approach.... nice vid..
Well done 👏 John on qualification and getting to the final of the golden rod.Always think your vids are top notch 👌 and always pick a few tips up .Good luck in the final and HOPEFULLY I'll see you lift the trophy in march time.cheers.
Hi Jon what a great result on a difficult day! It’s amazing how simple bait and tactics how often score and hair rigged corn is simple and cheap! However no more fishing for any of us for a while or possibly a long while. Stir crazy will not be a strong enough expression of how I will be. Take care of yourself and your family. Regards Bill
Nice positive approach to this match Jon, really enjoyed watching this. Mega shocked when I saw Larford sooooo flooded, Im sure Phil and his team are working hard to bring back this exceptional fishery back to its forma glory 👍👍👍
Congratulations JA, well deserved. You put the hours in and even take time to record your sessions when the stakes are big. Good luck in the final (If it still happens) I will be routing for you.
You mentioned Dean Barlow , I knew his dad Frank Barlow absolutely brilliant river Trent angler . Gave me and my National team some tuition on stick float fishing in 1980s .
Great result. Good angling Jon. Glad I wasn't out on the bank with that cold wind in my face. Gutted that the Big One was called off. It's main the Matrix and Cadence stands I wanted to visit. That's where I would have found most of my favourite anglers. Beside that, we've got vital advice given fro number 10. And I desperately hope you're being extra careful Jon. It's not about being scared, but rather being wise, employing common sense. I'm still out fishing here and there. I call my local tackle shop with an order, and they meet me by the roadside with bait ect. keep safe, keep well my friend, I'm just one of many followers of yours that really want you to avoid getting ill. Take care mate.
Congratulations Jon on qualifying. Class match fishing! Larford looks more of a natural venue than a commercial. 2 questions: 1. Why hair rigged corn over hooking corn direct? 2. I always assumed that on commercials, it works best to feed according to bites. Whereas you piled amount of bait in with feeder when hardly getting bites. Is this more of a tatic when fishing for bream rather than carp? Trying to learn from the masters like yourself. All the best in the final Jon, Andy Kirk.
Thanks Andy! Hair-rigging helps the fish self hook as it leaves the entire hook exposed. If you hook it normally you have to hit the bite and/or use a much bigger hook. Yes I fed quite a bit of particles as there were loads of little silvers showing and I feel bream like to graze over pellets, so I wanted to hold them in front of me whenever they passed through. It's better to do this on a big open water venue like Larford rather than a smaller lake. Take care mate!
Sadly never took the cameras to the Final as I wanted to just concentrate 100% on trying to win. I came 21st out of 66 over two days, beating some top names off two indifferent draws. Felt a bit unlucky not to make the top 10 actually, but just nice to be there in the Final.
Brilliant video as always Jon. What clip on system/feeder are you using at 11 minutes? I've only used inline, free-running feeders before. Do you find fixed feeders better? Thanks
Hi John, quick question (not related to this video). I have bought an mtx 3, love the pole but I have noticed you have a nose cone on your number 3 section - is this something you have added or does it come on the four as standard? If not do you know where I can get them and do they do them for the other sections? Any help would be appreciated, thanks (Brian)
Jon Arthur Angling thank you for your time and response. For the pole doctor ones on the website it takes you to this link if anyone is interested polenosebungs.co.uk/
nice one jon, my favorite angler to watch .natural in front of camera . surprised the anglers walking the bank stopped to talk to you when your fishing close in ???. you would think anglers of that calibra would know better
Glad you enjoyed it. It was bit close for sure, but there wasn't a lot of room behind me to be honest. They were actually allowed to walk around the anglers sat on top of the Match burr bank in the Final, which surprised me!
Well done mate and great videos, only down side is the amount of subtitles, imo not required especially after actually repeating what you have just said, just saying and it’s not meant in a derogatory way. Thanks for your vids bud.
Thanks GG. I get far more praise for adding subtitles than not, though, as it often adds a bit of info and clarity and also helps with the sometimes difficult sound quality as I mumble and talk to myself in a match scenario! I see so many totally quiet live match videos where just a little bit of effort would really aid the audience. All the very best.
Jon Arthur Angling thanks for getting back to me John, well you know better than I do as it’s you that get the feedback, it doesn’t spoil it for me at all, I just wondered why there was so much of it and if it was necessary, so you have answered that one and I thank you again. Wish you and your family all the best mate, and stay safe cheers Keith.

Jon: another cracking vid..perhaps you can do something about the Golden Rod and how you got on. Tight lines

Matrix interchangeable feeder system. I definitely prefer fixed where it's allowed.

I think they are the protecta pole nose cones. Their website is protectapole.com - they do them for all the sections and they are a top notch product.
Gavin Goldthorp thank you will have a look
Hi Brian, I've two types that both work ok. I think one is Pole Doctor Nose Cones and the other is Protecta.
Jon Arthur Angling thank you for your time and response. For the pole doctor ones on the website it takes you to this link if anyone is interested polenosebungs.co.uk/

What’s the retail price of all your gear for this fishing session?
Great vid again jon, your pure class shone through. Now we can't go fishing you havent got about 20 hours a week of content to put on have you 😆😆😆
Working on it!
Do you think that big Bream u lost at the end could have been foul hooked?
Yes I had a sneaky feeling one of my two lost fish was fouled... but we'll never know
Boss 👍
Ta!
