GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!
took three years but I just became the first viewer of a Richard Gene video. Woooo. I'm talking about woooo!
Who sells that Sow Belly Rod ?
I was Richard genes 10th subscriber lol
@@eddiefralix3502 I believe they’re made in Huntsville AL
@@blacksmokematters4521 Really?? That is cool.
Woooooòwa
Some of the most fun fishing to be had. As much as I like catching big blue cats and bass, there's just something about seeing that float go down and reeling in a nice bluegill that makes me feel like a kid again.
You couldn't have said it better
Absolutely
@@JesusisGOD-yu2fb take that crap somewhere else
I had a tiny, little Daiwa ultralight rig I called the Fairy Wand. Little, light thing that bluegill and shellcracker used to give me fits on. People who have never experienced a big bluegill on a rig like that just will never understand what a fight it is for sure.
used to be just bass fisherman, my uncle turned me onto crappie/bluegill i love it more than bass now
hes got the only comment section that got zero hate or bs in it!!! this is such a pure channel
I fished a roadside bridge last week near Huntsville and met a young man with his 6 year old son. That little boy was excited to show me the bream he was catching. I told his dad to introduce him to RGTFM on RUclips. To me and my wife’s surprise the father said his son lives to watch Richard Gene. What am impact RG has!!!!❤😂
Richard, I know I’m not only speaking for myself, but we sure would love to see you do a catch, clean, and cook! And to check out some of the sides Miss Sue would serve with the gills!
I've been with you for years now Richard Gene. The channel hasn't built up because of anything we do. It has grown because of you and momma Sue. They're genuine, real people doing exactly what they love to do, all with big hearts, lots of laughs, and an uncqnny ability to show people how to go out and do the same thing in a way that anyone can understand. It's well deserved, and I can't wait to see it grow even bigger!
@@Digglerdirk79-l4y he has never tried to monetize the channel. No sponsors, no rod n reel companies supporting him. He may make a living doing it now, but has never set out to be rich from it. And good for him if he does.
@@Digglerdirk79-l4yAfford to fish? Methinks you don't fish. You must want to because you are here. You can get everything you need to fish for panfish for cheap. Like less than $50. Go have some fun or keep kicking your dog.
Mr Richard I wish you could do a show every day for 5 hours I now you can’t but that’s how much i love your channel god bless you and your family
Some of the best times I ever had as a kid was bluegill fishing thx Gene.

God bless you and yours richard. And everyone who reads this. I got back into fishing a few years back thanks to your videos. Since then fishing has led me back to god and happiness
Thanks, Richard, for another goodun.
Anybody that can't enjoy pond / tank fishin for any of the pan fish variety, ain't much of a fisherman or fisherwoman.
And there is absolutely nothing better to have kids fishin for.
Richard, thank you for all the tips and helpful information you give us.
God bless ya'll and stay safe on your travels to these fishin holes.
I love you and this channel, Richard. Thanks so much for bringing us unpretentious, low tech, regular guy fishing without all the expensive gear and razzmatazz. I wish you were my grandpa. Have a wonderful day, Richard Gene!
Back in the 60’s we’d go around all the barns and sheds looking for wasps (waspers as we called them) to use the larva for bait. We’d use a long cane pole to knock’em down. And run like Woooo.
This is great knowledge to help provide a healthy protein for our families for free. And have a great time doing it! Thanks Richard! Your one of my heroes! ❤
Yep. These days I feel so much more satisfied putting food in my freezer whether it’s fishing or hunting I’m trying to take the grocery store out of my life as much as possible. Unfortunately we can easily eat 4 deer before summer (and seems I usually end up with 2 or 3 lol), I’ve always fished but never was worried about filling the freezer. Things have changed
Easy yes. But I’d rather use crickets because it’s not as messy on the hands. Just my opinion. I love every video I have ever seen of yours. You are the most knowledgeable fisherman on RUclips and that’s a fact! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! How about a catch clean and cook?
Bluegill are also my favorite to catch and eat never thought the out of all the fish I've caught throughout the years I ALWAYS go back to bluegill.
Love your vids. I had a great day yesterday catching bluegill. Kept 7 over a pound. Used a small jig head and gulp alive minnow. Just slow retrieve caught over 20 kept what I wanted to clean. Keep up the good work sir!
I did the same thing, that has to be one of the best artificial baits ive ever used. Vacationing in Minnesota last week
Where you catching them that big?
@@buddyflood6761 indiana small private lake.
When Richard gene release a video, you know it’s going to be a good one
When I was a young man back in the day I would sain the the shallow fast running water in creeks and rivers flipping rocks catching helgamites right before they get their wings. Even those mayflies are great for goggle eyed perch. Good show Richard you got the gift brother
Like your fishing, but I love seeing Momma Sue fishing. No matter what she is fishing for, she is my favorite fisherman. I think you have the best channel out there. Good luck
We used to use wasp bait too to catch bream and also minners for catfishing when I was a young chap. My favorite bream bait is a half grown catawba worm (or catalpa worm). I agree that bream are the best eating fish. Great video!
Used trout flies with a bobber (needed a little weight to cast. Had a shorter rod) 3 feet up the line. Pan fishing is fun fishing! Thanks for taking us with you again!
Artificial black ant and clear bubble float works like a charm. Not hard to get a nice stringer for dinner.
Richard i absolutely love your videos even through the bad times when i was helping my dad battle cancer your content always kept me in good spirits the passion you have for the sport is unmatched and i hope one day that i can shake your hand and tell you how much i thank you most love to you and your family
Richard Gene the fishing machine you are the best fisherman I have ever seen thank you for doing the video because you're teaching us how to fish
Richard you are a National Treasure whether you know it or not! God Bless You! Even if I get tired of the Alabama hat! Go Dawgs!
He really is. Best attitude and best communication skills on earth.
I agree! I love the flavor and flakiness of bluegills
And they fight hard! So much fun!
Richard, we love ya! We love to see you having fun! You might watch out, though, if you get to having too much fun someone’s gonna think you’re an order of fries short on your happy meal. God bless you and Mama Sue.
Instant classic!
Bluegill fishing is my fav. And you are right,,,,,,,VERY TASTY!!!
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
We need a "Catch, Clean and Cook" with Mama Sue and Richard in the kitchen......
Gene, Gene, the Fishin Machine. BEST Dang Fisherman you ever have seen!!!!👍🎣
Thank you brother.
Just when I thought that using 4lb test would make you proud, you are using 2lb test.
I still caught 26 giant Bluegill and 1 12 inch Crappie.
Thank you Richard.
Love the videos and informative insights on how, when and where to find fish. Thank you Richard Gene.
Dude this guy is my favorite u tube fisherman he is awesome shows all types and learned so much from this guy. I would love just to fish with this guy just one time before I die I’m dead serious
I agree with you, Richard, when it comes to small strike indicators. I personally am a fan of the indicators that are sold by trout magnet. Very small, little resistance.
Frog hair ez-on indicators adjustable single use. Not sure if same brand but it’s all could find online if anyone else was looking
Keep it up Richard Gene! You have a wealth of experience tips are explained simply but effectively. I can't wait to take my kiddo out!
Thank you for doing your channel. I have learned a lot of things that have helped make me a better fisherman! God's Blessings Always 😇😇
This man is like the granddad of fishing!
I used a setup similar to this today. I gotta grab some of those strike indicators though. Thanks for the tips as usual, and Happy Father's Day!!
@titusb2546 if you can't find those indicators, look online for Little Corkies. They are very small round slip bobbers in various colors. Been using them for years on 2lb line and #8 hook.
My grandson and I really enjoy your videos!!
He is a true fisherman. His knowledge of the rivers ponds and lakes!.If you take the time to watch a few of his videos I think it will help you be a better fisherman, and you can pass this to your KIDS. It don't get better then that!!!.I want to tell Mr Gene thank you and GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!. 12:00
Love it Richard, I'll be looking for those little strike indicators, I like how they go on without a peg!
Fly fishing strike indicator, made to put on your fly leader. I’ve been using them for years on my fly leader and also for ice fishing👍
@@gillgetter3004where do you get them? I can't find them at any local shop
Thanks Richard Gene, I love watching your videos. You fish exactly like my father did when I was growing up in Western KY.
We fished the Tenn River in Marshall Co KY, on Kentucky Lake. We also fished coal mine strip pits and farm ponds like the one in this video. Just red worms and a ultra light tackle. Daddy loved to fish with a fly rod also. He would put crickets on a small hook on my fly rod like it was a cane pole. I was maybe 6 yrs old then. Keep up the good work you reach many with your message of good will.
It's hard to beat a hook and a worm on an ultralight for some fun bream fishin'! I finally found some larger bluegill and shellcracker and they sure do eat good. Thanks for the fun videos Mr.Richard, they are informative as well as fun.
In my country we called that fish Cow-head Patwa. As poor country kids, we used a 3-foot 'rod' cut from nearby bush and stripped of it leaves, along with 5 or 6 feet of string we used for flying kites. Our floater was a piece of bottle cork with a slit cut into it. If we didn't dig earthworms, we'd bring a few grains of boiled rice, sticking a single grain onto the hook at a time. Man, we'd pull up them patwas every few minutes and string them on a twig. Easy to catch! Thanks for the video. Great memories of my childhood exploits.
Took my son Bluegill fishing this morning. Good times!
This video helped me a lot when i was at camp, my dad showed me it
Needless to say i caught 4 bluegill and a pumpkinseed on my rod and 2 on my friend’s rod
First time here...This guy's accent is very soothing and easy to listen to. Thanks for the advice. Bluegill is my favorite also. I fried up a batch last week that a friend and I caught from a nearby lake. It indeed, is the best tasting fish out there.
Thanks for all you do and for helping many of us to remember how we did things in the country as kids. On the wasp nest deal, to add to fishing with them, we used to wrap them lightly in a newspaper and burn the paper . That little bit of heat made the larvae a bit tougher for a fish to tear off from your hook. Putting them in the oven worked too but Mama frowned on that one.
You had my undivided attention when I saw what hat you were wearing. Roll Tide Roll!!!
Thank you Richard, Happy Father's Day to you, and God Bless you and your family my friend 🙏
Thank YOU for what you've done for US Mr Gene! Wishing you continued success with the channel. Can you do another catch and cook?
Thank you for doing your channel. I have learned some things that have helped make me a better fisherman!
I love fishing for bluegill and enjoy watching your videos because you take time and explain and teach EVERYTHING about the process hook, line, rod and reel, drag setting’s to the way to reel it in your the best……in my opinion. Well my grandson is 12 now and has developed a real love for fishing. I’ve had the pleasure to take him a few times and can honestly say that not much more of anything l enjoy more. But l don’t get to be with him as much asl would like. So l told him to watch your channel and listen closely and you’ll learn from one of the best.
The trilene knot is all you need to go fishing cuz it's good for ya 👍
A buddy and I just fished for gills this morn, using the exact same technique.....and we left with a cooler of big bluegill. I'm 43 and haven't grown tired of fighting big gills on wimpy tackle!!! Nice videos you make!!
This guy seems so nice when he’s talking and explaining things
Richard, a year or two ago I went bank fishing on a rainy day, and there was a guy using your method to catch panfish in the river. It was raining pretty good, so we were the only ones out on the walkway. I heard a big commotion from down there where he was at and just thought it was stripe or skipjack hitting the shad on top. A few minutes later, he came up and said can you help me figure out what this fish is? I looked in his cooler and he had a 6 lb Smallmouth! He caught that meanmouth on an ultralight with a piece of nightcrawler. I was just as excited as he was. He learned that technique watching your channel. You're making a big impact on the fishing community! Thank you and God bless.
I love it, thanks! I was using a slip bobber for bluegill, but I can see how this would work far better for bluegill. You're right, bluegill is the best tasting fish. I like frying them up with straight butter. It accents the sweet taste of bluegill perfectly! Buttered bluegill is the best tasting seafood I've ever had.
All Truth. Best tasting underrated pan fish ever. Your the King. T.Y.V.M.
I agree Richard, best tasting fish. Here in west Tennessee, we try to catch them by the dozens spring and summer and clean them same as you
Richard love the vedios very instructive you da man learned a lot from you keep the vedios coming 😊
You are so right about them blue gills being the best eating fish. I love them myself and love catching them just as much as eating them. 👍🐟
Nothing better than fishing Mr Gene...
Best fish ever!I couldn't agree more.Great video as always.
When I was a boy (a very long time ago) my Dad and I would go fishing for bluegills. Two hooks on each line, and we would each catch 2 at a time. Great fun, and delicious! Lots of work, though, getting 50 or 60 bluegills ready for the frying pan. Now I’m hungry!
Good bunch of bluegills, my favorite fish! Thanks for the fishing tips!
When he said “this is something everybody needs to be doing” I felt that 😢
They are the best eating fish I caught a bunch when I lived in Michigan
Any fishing spots you can reccomend? I live in the tri state area
Had so much fun the other day with my son (he is 20). Caught 25 slabbers and fried them up. We are itching to get out for the walleye season here in Michigan but it was nice out so we took the boat out and had a blast. Now that hes getting older he has the fever for big fish but it was fun to get back to basics like when he was little. Nothing better in the world than fishing with your son. The dinner is an awesome icing on the cake though
Thanks Gene great to see ya make all them great fishing videos. Keep on Fishing!!
When all else fails, I’ll take an ultralight rod with 2 or 4 lb line, a small strike indicator, and some Wally World worms and fish for bluegill. Found a nest of them in downed tree yesterday that had some slabs and it was a heck of a lot of fun.
Can you do a catch, clean and cook??
I tried ur technique on the hellgramite and a ultra lock mustad hook and nail weights. I threw above the riffles and let it ride the current to the backside of the rocks. Caught the fire out of smallmouths and rock bass. Nobody else was catching em but i was having a day!!
Thank you for all you do man. Love your channel. Your friend from Maryville Tennessee
lmao that ending dance just got me! We need more dancing at the end of your videos lol. Love your videos man, you definetly helped me out with fishing and just having fun with it. Even though the wife kinda doesnt like it, especially when I bring fish in the house lol.
Hey Richard, I would like to request a blue gill and shell cracker catch and cook " Please " God bless buddy...✝️🇺🇸
Love your videos can’t wait for you and Rocky to make some more videos
I have recently learned about the joys of bluegill and how many people eat them! I did my first catch and cook with them not long ago, and they were so delicious! I also ate the tails, very delicious!
i love doing this i love watching a float go under
First 15 seconds in, I knew I was going to like this video.
Yes Richard, I love light tackle for big perch so much fun.
Really enjoy your fishing tips. Thanks
you're SO funny😅 and very informative! love💓 watching AND fishin👋🏻
Congrats! I was lucky in 2017, while doing a tour in Iraq,,, had some extra time on my hands 👍☮️ hopefully you are catching some dinner for the family.. RG gives some great info. God Bless Bro!
Love ya Richard! But I need a good catfish video 😭
Where's my momma Sue? Love seeing you two cackling about, enjoy your videos so much.😂
Hell yeah! Let’s get a vid of you cookin’ them bad boys up
Beautiful fish, and Bluegill are super fighters for their size!
Those were some gooduns Elmoooooooo!!! You ain’t lying about popping that 2lb test. When you get them in close if they ever get turned 180 degrees from you and make a run with a full head of steam it’s game over… 😂 That’s just as much fun to me as bass fishing. You just gotta match your tackle to the species you’re targeting… If you use a bass rod for bluegill it’s kinda like using deep sea gear for bass fishing… Their just isn’t much fun in that for me… I like to give them a fighting chance. That’s what the sport of fishing is all about. Great video as always buddy!
First video I have watched of yours sir and I must say… DUDE YOU ARE AWESOME!! Haha I love the cutting up at the end them fancy dance moves😂
Wooo! Go fishin' when ya can... cause its gud fur ya! -Lisa H
I just went this past weekend to my company picnic, and the venue has a private pond so I brought my fly rod. Wore out some bigguns, along with two monster green sunfish and a couple bass with a chernobyl I tied myself.
I'm talking wooooo!
Ya gotta love it when them big snub nosed bluegills do lil donuts when you're reeling them in😁 and they are very delicious battered and fried 🎣
Man I would to just sit and talk about fishin with ya I love watching your videos you allways have the best advice
Nice feeesh! I love bluegill! I am definitely and will always be a perch jerking queen!
Good job Richard, Remember next time to say GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE . I Love that part the BEST..
Another good one! Bluegill is the BEST!
2 lb in Stren high vis is what I use. Great video Gene. The 2 lb gives you cast ability as well with a very light rod, for such a light presentation.
Have you ever tried Tenkara? A 10 foot Tenkara rod and a Betts popper should be illegal it's so much fun on bluegill. 😂
