This is probably one of the first book fan reactions where no one was being overly critical. I've been a fan for over 10 years, and I felt like they made a very faithful adaption with the limitations they were given. It keeps the heart and soul (and the important scenes) of the book while making changes that worked with what they needed. The cast also took so much care with how they portrayed their characters. I don't think they could've done a better job with what they were given.

Definitely the best episode of the season. The pacing of the episode, the flashbacks to Luke teaching Percy to fight with a hint of foreshadowing on the eventual betrayal at the end... so much good things! I hope that the filming of Season 2 starts ASAP as the kids especially Walker are growing up quick! Great reaction, looking forward for Season 2 ❤

    This show is PEAK ADAPTATION.
Not too deviant from the source material, but not too faithful either. I'm so glad we got to see more content that weren't even in the books and that were original to the show.
I also love how the adaption plays to the strengths of its medium (as it should)!
One of my favorite changes to the show was the switch from 1st-person to 3rd-person-perspective/POV.
As much as I love Percy's inner thoughts, we got to see so much more from other characters even when they were not around Percy like Annabeth, Grover, the gods, and especially Sally Jackson (to me, out of all the characters, Sally's writing improved the most due to this approach).
Another one of my favorite things original to the show was the Luke VS Percy fight. To me, that fight was the highlight of the epsiode and it was somehow more awesome than the highly-anticipated Ares.

Agreed on all counts! One of, if not my favorite changes the show made was giving Sally the screentime she deserved. She's such an important character to Percy, but it always made me sad how little we saw of her simply because the books are in Percy's first person POV. Not only did the show give us new scenes with her, but it also fleshed out her character and gave more depth to her relationships with both Percy and Poseidon than the books ever did (imo). Seeing as much of her as we did (even if it was only in flashbacks) increased the emotional stakes of Percy's goal to rescue her and made her eventual return in episode 8 that much more impactful.
The Percy and Luke scene was definitely the highlight for me too. You could argue that the fight was added for the sake of including an action scene to make it more exciting, but I think it served a narrative purpose - Luke seemed to be holding back because he wanted Percy on his side. Book Luke had little to no qualms about killing Percy, but show Luke was trying to recruit him, so it wouldn't make sense to use the scorpion to threaten him.

The fight between Percy and Aries was EPIC! And I agree that Aries was going easy on him which added to his defeat.
I think Lance Reddick did a masterful job as Zeus. May he Rest In Peace.
And the meeting between Percy and Poseidon? Perfect!
I also like the change with the reveal about Luke and the betrayal. Plus, it makes more sense that Luke would try to recruit him rather than kill him.
So hoping we get a S2.

Lance Reddick was the perfect casting. He made me not like Zeus ( never liked Zeus in Greek Mythology) but have fear of him. The scene with Poseidon surrendering to spare Percy’s life and then Poseidon and Zeus talking in Ancient Greek was chef’s kiss to me. I think certain scenes from the book made sense in other places for the tv adaptation such as seeing Luke teaching Percy to sword fight to parallel his fight with Ares. Going back to episode 5 because it’s my second favorite episode after the finale, Annabeth seeing the Fates cut the thread was much more impactful for me than Percy seeing them because he did not know them. I liked the changes to the Luke fight with Percy because it was much more heartbreaking Annabeth hearing and seeing his turn because they are family. I loved the entire finale and series as a whole. I need Disney to announce a renewal for Season 2 this week. Also we do not see Zeus again in book 2 and 3( currently on book 4 so not sure if Percy sees him in this book) so I think they have awhile to find another actor to fulfill the role.

Not only was Annabeth already familiar with the Fates, but she also knew Luke better than Percy. Personally, I found Annabeth being the one to see the Fates to make more sense because that particular thread was Luke's, and she had a stronger bond with Luke than Percy did. In the books, Percy saw the Fates before he had even met Luke.

Lance reddick was AMAZING as Zeus!!! He is going to be very hard to replace as the next actor has some BIG shoes to fill!!

yeah, backbiter did have that power in the book, it was just very one-off. After poisoning Percy, he slashes backbiter in the air and vanishes. They've just expanded it a bit
also, I love that they're keeping a dream journal for Percy's nightmares

    • @ChannelNamePending699
      @ChannelNamePending699  5 месяцев назад +3

I remember that now - you're right, it WAS very one-off. It's a shame that never really came up again in the books, considering how useful a power that is. I hope the show uses it more, especially now that Luke made such a big deal of it.

My theory with Sea of Monsters adaptation is that Annabeth will be personally questioning herself and why she should not join Kronos, less about not believing that Luke would betray her. In the end, she’ll witness exactly why she (and Percy) should not join Kronos.

I’d love to see Percy’s eyes turn yellow (at least for a little bit) and that mirroring the Cyclop’s eye color.

In every reaction I’ve watched, no one has seen what I saw and I don’t remember much about this reference. At 19:08 when Percy walks into camp and the camera pans occasionally over the welcoming half-bloods, I squealed ‘the twins’ and my husband looked at me weird. He hasn’t read the books so I’m yet to explain that to him but I wonder if any other book fans noticed that!!

I love they made Luke more remorseful in the show because he always had a point even in the books, he just went about it wrong. If he had a good plan without hurting people I think a lot of the half bloods would join him because the Gods are so terrible.

Olympus looks like The Ringed City DLC of Dark Souls 3 and I ain't complaining.
Production design was PEAK (probably due to the fact that it has the same production designer as LORD OF THE RINGS of all things!)

They changed the pitch too. As a reactor you can change things about the original material and only show bits of it so they don’t get copyrighted. It’s only piracy if they show the whole thing unaltered.
