Solidarity Apsana! It is an absolute sham that this is allowed to happen in the Labour party. The Labour party has become institutionally undemocratic and it feels like we have to look elsewhere for a platform where fantastic people like you can continue to represent the interests of their community at the political level.

This is one of the most shocking and disgraceful episodes in all British political history.
We overuse these terms in politics a lot, but this whole story makes me feel so sick and so angry.
Very glad Novara is covering it.

All my solidarity and respect goes out to Apsana! 🌹✊🏻 She shouldn't have been put through this at all, but Labour's complicity and willingness to overlook this clear pattern of targeted abuse in order to accelerate their left-wing purge is inexcusable.

Really don't want to support labour at the next GE. Such a sad indictment of politics that the only 2 choices are far right nutters or hypocritical incompetents who don't care. And they are probably going to deselect my MP (Sam Tarry) because of factional warfare. Apsana thanks for sharing, wishing you the best and recovery.

Very telling and eye opening Exclusive from Novara Media 👏🏾 this is why I’m not voting again in any general election not since the last one and then toxic labour supporters on Twitter are gonna tell me I’m part of the problem because I won’t vote labour 🙄 Well I’m not voting Tory but who’s fault is that if you had a better leader that wasn’t so far right on the left or wasnt a mush mouth factionist. Keir Starmer is a terrible leader. I dunno if he will win next election we need the likes of Apsana Begum and Mick Lynch those are the kind of people I would vote for !

Behaviour of the Labour Party has been disgraceful and shocking but unfortunately it is not surprising. When we have a party which openly supports a racist apartheid state like Israel then we should not expect anything else. The fact that she has had no support from the party is indicative of where they currently are. I have voted labour for over 50 years and will never do so again until the return to their socialist roots.

Labour are dead, I don't think there's any saving them now. The party is corrupt to the core and the final chance we had to change things has come and gone, the huge mistake Corbyn made was not purging the party from Day One. He did the honorable thing and tried to work with the Blairites but there is no honour amongst thieves. We're stuck with the Conservatives or the ever so slightly watered down Conservatives for the rest of our lives now, barring a miracle.

It truly beggars belief that Apsana, a sitting MP, has been signed off work and the leadership office hasn't checked in to offer her a simple wish of 'get well soon'. I truly can't believe this! The party has a duty of care and they've failed this by a fracking country mile. The membership should be outraged that a lawsuit of significant value will be getting paid out here. Power and solidarity, Apsana.

I’m so very sorry to learn of that which has happened to Apsana Begum. I had no idea of the sheer extent of her abuse & betrayal. As a mental health professional, her account is horribly familiar to me, although of course each experience is unique to the individual. I’m so heartened to learn that this fine woman has had support and has garnered the strength to lift herself out of this nightmare. Warmest and sincerest wishes to her for justice, happiness and success.

The real Labour party ceased to exist when they abandoned their core principles prior to toryblairite's landslide victory for his New-Labour party which achieved power by mirroring the Tories and then carrying on with tory policies after winning an unprecedented historic landslide majority victory, which could have been used to change the British political landscape forever, instead they did things that even Maggie didn't have the balls to do, PFI and tuition fees to name just two, leaving the door wide open for what the tories are doing to us now, after they seen what we allowed our 'own' party do to us, the biggest political betrayal in history.

Glad to hear Ms. Begum having the opportunity to give her experience of this long running saga (for want of a better word). It seems unbelievable that her ex-husband has retained his position and influence within the Party, with no consequences. It seems incredibly arrogant for any Party leader to state that there is no issue of racism affecting their members or representatives, or indeed carried out by certain individuals.
The contribution of local MPs, Councillors and activists has far more impact on us than distant figureheads beyond our reach, I wish people would stop this cult of the personality /hero worship, as if our "Dear Leaders" are the Saviours. Who does the groundwork, the local interventions on behalf of ordinary people? Ms. Begum obviously has community supporters and engages in local concerns, despite the unchallenged harassment.

Tbh her success came from yet another undemocratic process (AWS) in the Labour Party, so not much sympathy there. She was not qualified at all to stand when she did with the experience she had without the Labour AWS.
AWS is a sexist manifestation of the broken FPTP system that fosters "safe seats". We need electoral reform.

I worked most if my life on the Airlines Gulf Air ( Bahrain based) and later British Airways ( recruitment and training )and whenever a dispute arose say over promotion etc with a Muslim they always mentioned its because I am a Muslim, no its not, its because others were better qualified, had better interpersonal skills and were well liked.
