Похоже хозяин ролика никогда не видел погреба где хранятся закатки, картофель, вообщем запасы на зиму, да и убежище от бури тоже не видел. Городской человек, о том что творится в деревне и как люди там живут, узнаёт или знает благодаря интернету.
Причём тут погреб, если тут строят именно убежище от ураганов и смерчей?

I suppose it's better than being caught in an open field. Here in Kansas, we occasionally get tornadoes strong enough to peel the asphalt paving off a road. Me thinks a big one would rip that one right of the ground.

What happens if you have severe floods, meters deep, or huge fires fanned by hurricane strength winds like we saw in Australia? I would have put the shelter on a hill and built it with concrete.
This is to store food and probably in a cold city in the US where they don’t get weather like that. The fact they’re putting insulation in the door leads me to believe it’s a colder city in the US. A city’s that don’t usually get floods like the southern US.

Не. Точно погреб. В убежище без туалета никак а тут его нет. Так что это погреб без вариантов))
Надо было сделать по шире для того чтобы там в случае чего можно было бы жить.
А так это обыкновенный погреб. Мы тоже так же делали но не в таких масштабах

В СССР такие строения были почти у каждого и назывались они...Омшаник Мой дядя построил омшаник ... Один с помощью топора и пилы...Пчеловоды ставили на зиму ульи с пчелами..., а летом там хранили продукты...

This is a root cellar not a storm shelter. How are 8 people going to shelter in there for perhaps hours?
У моей бабушки в деревне был подобный погреб, только мы прост вырыли яму 2 метра глубиной, из 3х бревен сделали опоры для потолка и крышу, засыпали все это землей и хранили там картошку, погреб лет 15 простоял )
Why isn’t the wood treated against mold? There’s already black fungus there; it’s dangerous for health, and for products that will be stored there.
Boric acid is applied once the wood is seasoned
Also good for any kind of insects

Hey, I could make an underground house out of that and live in it. I like it. With the right layout and decorations it could be nice.
I recently moved to Tennessee. Tornados are a new reality for me. I've been researching storm shelters. I'm concerned, with the strength of your ceiling. Is that strong enough to support large debris landing on the roof during a violent tornado? Though ours are typically no bigger than EF-3's in our area. It's amazing the size of the oak trees they throw around like they were twigs.

The dirt will eventually cause "some" wall curvature/ collapse over time. Should have used nails instead of screws where side stress comes into play; screws will shear WAY BEFORE nails.
Why not wolmanized wood for framing?
Hope they built on high ground to avoid flooding.

using wood in the ground and no water proofing or mitigation ... i see nothing but issues with that in the ways of mold and rot and water coming in ... in short this would not be safe to use ... but nice video

I think the right thing to do would be to pour concrete around the building and roof. Approximately 10 inches and vibrate the concrete.

I guess it's a storm shelter, but it's definitely not a tornado shelter. Wouldn't take more than an F-2 or 3 to turn that into shrapnel.

The life expectancy of this shelter is limited due to the usage of softwood which equally carries health hazards .
For what this cost i personally would of used concrete.
They owned the sawmill so cost wasn't an expense more of a write-off for sure. But I agree with you I don't own a saw mill so there's that.

Está todo bien, es un refugio, por lo que se ve solo construyeron literas adentro, tienen para dormir pero??? Y el baño?????? Eso es más una bodega para alimentos y vinos, que un refugio.
