    Eli and Geoff seem to be on a reciprocal - the lower Geoff gets, the higher Eli ROCKS. He's up belting in Whitney territory whenever he pleases now. In an entirely maniacal way...

    J None was formerly in VoicePlay but is currently about 2 years in on a 5-year stint in the US Navy as part of one of their musical units. He still guests with VoicePlay when he gets leave. Many of us are hoping VoicePlay is holding that 5th spot open for him.

    Voiceplay is the best! They are completely independent, no label, no manager. They have complete artistic control of their work. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatbox) do most of the arrangements, usually taking turns month to month. This one was Layne, Nothing Else Matters was Geoff. They don't get the attention or publicity that other groups get, but they love what they do and they've been doing it for a long time. Geoff and Layne are the last remaining members of the group formed in 1997.
    Eli does the lighting and special effects and designed all of the visuals in this one.
    I subscribed as soon as I saw your first reaction to them.
    Geoff started a solo channel at the start of the pandemic when tours and live shows were cancelled. His two most recent are Sound of Silence and Man of Constant Sorrows. I hope you'll get to his stuff, too!

    • @ingiford175
      @ingiford175 Год назад +2

      9/10 times where you have Geoff going off the rails with the low notes, it was Layne that did the arrangements; Geoff usually tries to focus attention to the others and gives himself easier notes.

    • @tomoonhk
      @tomoonhk Год назад +1

      @@ingiford175 yeah Layne did mention that he likes to push Geoff out of his comfort zone more often than he does himself. That's why Geoff's "crazy" notes are usually in Layne's arrangements, like My Mother Told Me and Halo.

    That was one of Layne's arrangements, he's the beatboxer. He and Geoff, the bass, pretty much take it in turns to arrange their songs, Then whoever did the arranging and story board outline will do the film and sound editing. That's as I understand it anyway. And I really believe they are unique among a capella groups.

    its mind blowing to think about this but i wanna put it somewhere just so more ppl actually realize it. geoff has the same amount of range as dimash but on the other end of the scale. mans got over 4 octives worth of range and hes got subharmonics as well. i cant get over how much this goes underappreciated cuz we are all stunned by his sound lol

    B0, he does 3 here. J None used to be a full member before the US Navy recruited him for his vocal talents. He's now been there 2yr of 5. When he left he said he'd be back and the first year he took the lead for Friends on the Other Side, Jan he had a place in VoicePlay's Nothing Else Matters, and now this one. They do a version of Tennessee Whiskey that's really fit to listen to. Geoff (bass) and Layne (vocal perc) alternate between the two of them for arrangements, pre-mix audio, staging, design, costuming, makeup unless it's elaborate like this one and the bring in one of the Disney gurus to do it. Geoff did Nothing Else Matters, Layne did this one. Eli (rhymes with jelly) rock tenor does the lighting, computer screens and backgrounds. Cesar is the most recent member and Geoff says he brings the coffee and keeps them young. They lost Earl, one of the founding members of 25 yrs ago. They have been down a person since J None went to the Navy but they have contacts and have taken advantage of that to diversify what they are doing.

    VoicePlay is my favorite of the acapella groups. PTX is too... serious and "over polished" for my tastes (as much as they are highly skilled), and... I don't really care for a lot of country music. VoicePlay is really the theater kids of the acapella world, and a huge part of what I love about them is that you can just... feel how much fun they are having at every moment when they are on screen. That just makes it so much easier to be right there with them, having an absolute blast. But what really does it is that their "having fun" doesn't come at the expense of giving world-class performances. There's not a single weak link in the group. They even get phenomenal performances out of the featured guest artists every time. They are able to build so much synergy, giving every member their well-deserved chances to shine.

    • @Gael4ce

      Me too …to all of that. PTX is insanely skilled, but I just don’t get feels. VP can make me laugh or cry or cheer…or in this case…want to find a sword and bash stuff.
      I like Home Free when they go more pop, but I’m not so keen on hard core country.
      Drake, are you a patreon yet? There’s so much fun there; it’s worth every penny.

    So Voiceplay typically has their main 4 members then bring in a fifth. Currently the lineup is Geoff (Bass) Layne (Vocal Percussion, Cesar (Low Tenor), Eli-Rock God (High Tenor). J-None (Baritone, Rap) was the fourth member for a while until he joined the US NAVY but he comes home to record often. Cesar took his spot in the group.

    The song is actually written and composed by Miracle of Sound. It is an original song inspired by Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Cesare is a sweetheart, a total teddy bear but he went full berserker mode for this. Arrangements are alternated between Geoff and Layne , sometimes they collaborate. Eli has started playing with the lighting.
