      Destiny your wrong about Trump, yes he rich, but he got that way by working with a lot of ordinary people his connection with builders and electrical engineers ect ect has given him a unique insight into everyday people. He often talks about it if you ever cared to listen.
      He has ifent given money to people to pay off their houses, he has often just handed over cash to regular folk. He remembers everyone and talks to anyone, he is not a snob, he hates the elites and never socialises with them because he knows they are trying to screw the little guy. He just wants people working and doing well. You're very cynical about him. Open your eyes just a bit and you will see what we all see a man who has a position in life that can change things for so many. He actually wants to use his position of power for good. That's why we love him.
      Also nobody else has the power to craft deals like him. His peace deal with the middle east is INCREDIBLE and deserves a Noble Peace Prize. Look into the Abraham Accords peace deal to understand.
      Then look around a ask who else could do that?
      Nobody only Trump Yeah the most unlikely person actually is the one.

      @@ThySheepie Listen, maybe it's because I started getting into politics when I was 13 (late 2009) so I was quite young and didn't notice as much, but I feel like the left-wing (I am a liberal left-winger, by the way) was, overall, a lot cooler and smarter back in 2010 and before. It seems like around the time that the SJW movement started taking off from the early 2010s onward, things got a lot more fragmented and split off in the left-wing; a lot more of them became these crazy types who were allergic to facts and who were really focused on language policing above all else, abandoning the general pro-free speech sentiment of the left up until that point. What I'm wondering is: maybe there was always this split in the left, even in the 2000s and so on, but it was just a lot quieter then because being PC was a lot less of a prevailing thought and the focus was much more on real issues between the traditional left and traditional right. Though, I dunno... maybe it is just that a lot of people in my age range grew up in a more digital age where things were relatively a lot more comfortable and thought that being PC was the more "progressive" thing to do because it seemed like the next step in the chain of progress to them. This might be a little bit different from what you're talking about, but what you said got me stirring on this.

    Couple of my thoughts if anyone cares:
    1) There might be a bias with the people Destiny interacts with that these conclusions are based on. These are usually people more convinced in their beliefs than the average person (that might have some healthy level of self-doubt so they don't voice them as much). These are usually people that crave attention more. The unfortunate truth is that the majority of people (that isn't always 100% sure of their beliefs) often thinks that people that talk with more conviction have a reason to do so.
    2) In addition to social incentives, personal psychology plays a huge part in dictating beliefs. Now, more than ever, people can just go online and find the social group that "suits them". There's a reason some people gravitate towards red-pill stuff as there their uncomfortable feelings about what masculinity means don't get activated. For attention craving people this might off course come off as social incentives as their personal psychology is designed to seek social validation.
    3) People don't believe what makes them feel good, people believe what aligns with how they feel. The difference, for example, is if someone has low self worth, they're more likely to believe someone telling them they're bad even when they're not because it aligns with how they feel.

    • @WanderTheNomad
      @WanderTheNomad 4 месяца назад

    Now knowing what cognitive dissonance is, I think I've subconsciously been reinterpreting and reforming my personal worldview with the goal of eliminating the feeling of cognitive dissonance. I've started to settle in on a fundamental assumption about the world, that, in practical terms, everything in life is contextual. Just saying that is a paradox, but going through life seeing things through that baseline assumption has been very good thus far at allowing for a great variety of different seemingly disconnected experiences and facts about life to coexist in my worldview. If you know how to write Markdown, then you'll like it. Obsidian is more of a barebones program that is highly customizable, which is opposite to MS Word. Obsidian has a graph view of all your notes that is supposed to make you see connections between them, but I personally think it's more of a gimmick. The best thing about Obsidian is that it doesn't have any of the cloud/telemetry silicon valley bullshit, and everything runs locally (you can also sync notes if you want). Anything can be done in Obsidian if you have enough time. If you hate slow starts, then you may hate Obsidian. Just give it a try and see how it goes.
      I switched from MS Word to Obsidian because I felt like I wasted too much time (dealing with indentations, auto-formatting, new pages, margins, etc.) trying to use it as a note-taking app when it was more of an A4 paper writer. Also, unlike Obsidian, Word can't cross-reference notes or structure notes in folders/projects. I still miss easily moving an image anywhere on the page and wrapping text in MS Word, though.

      Psychoanalysis has given us some of the most incredible discoveries about the unconscious and the mechanisms that we use to deceive ourselves or avoid our deeper issues. There’s quite a bit of evidence supporting psychoanalysis, but when behaviorism came to the scene, people gravitated toward it because, in my opinion, behaviorism allows you to neglect all uncomfortable aspects about yourself, letting you deluded yourself out of thinking there is a “why” behind your behavior. Yea because you cut it off at 100%. The concept is still usable for understanding what is happening generally in our political discourse today and seems to be logical way to say basically people just vote off vibes and social pressure and don’t always / often actually factually / logically think there way though positions. Obviously they have to maintain a platform which is part of social pressure. The whole point is about we don’t logically come to our beliefs. This is why we can’t logic people in believing different things because they didn’t logic themselves into and that for both sides

  • @ralphinoful

    I don't see why it would be "socially reinforced" necessarily, when people have all the same beliefs. If you look at beliefs, as if they are theorems derived from a logical system, or an axiomatical system, this idea just falls into place naturally.
    With respect to Euclid's 5 axioms governing geometry. I can arbitrarily reject or accept his 5th axiom. This would be analogous to a group believing a set of group defined fundamental beliefs. When I reject the parallel postulate, I live in spherical/hyperbolic geometry. When I accept it, I live in flat Euclidean space. Obviously, we would all have the same beliefs, after accepting / rejecting a primary axiom. That's just how logical systems work. It doesn't necessitate social reinforcement. Changing one singular axiomatic belief, can radically change the system you operate in. And everything about the system can logically change.

    • @rickyrivera3623
      @rickyrivera3623 4 месяца назад

      Because when you grow up you don’t know things so you have to be socially taught things. And then there social pressure to conform to those teaching or ditch them depending on what friend groups social groups you are in. People don’t literally have same exact beliefs they just have similar beliefs from hanging around people similar to them because the know that those people won’t socially pressure them into having different beliefs. This is why feminists and trumpers don’t hang out because to social pressure it’s so high that they would fight / debate / ignore each other if they had to be in same area repeatedly

    When you talked about how becvoming a friend and applying that soft social pressure I felt you are going down a really deep sociological rabbit hole. I do not think that every time we change someone's mind over time it is a pressure. I didn't feel pressured to accept trans people as genuine people. I argued and lost and had the logical gaps in my thinking pointed out. So I sat on them and thought (as much as a 14 year old could.) and came to the conclusion I was wrong. And that applies for anything!

    • @rickyrivera3623
      @rickyrivera3623 4 месяца назад

      I think it depends on your definition of pressure. The whole point of social pressure is that your around people who challenge your beliefs in a certain way which is what happened. If you weren’t around any one who supported trans people they would be no social awareness or pressure to even debate you on the topic and your views would have probably not changed

    • @funnysillycat2355
      @funnysillycat2355 4 месяца назад +1

      @rickyrivera3623 yeah but when you say pressure it implies that they are actively trying to change your beliefs. Simply being around people with differing opinions doesn't make you wanna change your opinions it's only when they actively apply the pressure is what I'm saying. @rickyrivera3623 4 месяца назад +1

      @@funnysillycat2355 I didn’t mean to imply that so I’ll stop using the word pressure but I still trying the point remains that being around difference can passively change you. This is because being aware of different ways of doing things / being etc that you wouldn’t have know if you they didn’t exist in your life. This is why people in small towns can often have very similar way of thinking being compared to big cities. It really depends on how sheltered one is but if you like only around one group of people there are importantly reasons to comform otherwise they might ignore you, shun you or you might have lower status. This can be a strong driving force especially if you don’t have many friends or in a very small community or soemthing so it’s context dependent. Just knowing if you don’t agree with someone enough means they could leave you is a strong incentive to have beliefs that line enough so your friends don’t leave you. I find it's often quite easy to attack religion, considering how much baggage it gives you.
    For Christians, the questions:
    -Can god create a boulder to heavy for him to lift?
    -Why did god design the universe so that babies can die in agony? Do babies really need to die painfully in order for us to have free will? I already can't fly/regrow limbs, so why not order the universe so no one can harm a baby?
    -Why is the ultimate test for people whether or not they have faith? If you had to prove god existed with an evidentiary standard you'd find in any criminal court, you wouldn't be able to do it. Why am I punished for my failure to believe in that? It's not like I can control what I believe.
    -Epicurus Dilemma
    Are all REALLY difficult questions I've only heard good answers too when people do stuff like ditch god being omnipotent or omniscient. I mean, you can't really "justify" atheism, considering it's a lack of belief. All you can really do is put forward questions that challenge a religious conception.

      I don’t really see why you would bother unless something is obviously bad beliefs in something like human sacrifice is good. Clearly religion comes from a place of faith which is about accepting something I can’t 100% objectively proof it but I still belief. So you trying to beat something up with logic when they didn’t use logic to get there it’s just pointless and idk if does much positive impact for the world at large.

      @@rickyrivera3623 I understand you view your foundation as one of faith... That's okay, I have faith in a few things too. At the root of natural philosophy or science, you assume a few things to be true and go from there.
      I hope to see a world with less suffering, and for the most part people's religious beliefs help that happen (especially when people plug into a community by going to church). It does open up some vulnerabilities though.
      -I think religion is often used to otherize or even dehumanize people, as we saw with the opposition to gay rights recently.
      -I think religious people can be prone to mystical thinking and thus be susceptible to hucksters. "Alternative" cancer treatment centers spring to mind, which are some of the most evil institutions in the US.
      -I think there's a common "everything happens for a reason" vibe that many religious people take on that often serves an unjust status quo, or makes them vulnerable to stuff like covid. The anti-vaccine movement was a lot of faithful believing god would shield their families from disease.
      -I think religious beliefs are often at odds with scientific understanding... which has a whole bunch of negative effects. I think people have an easy time dismissing things like climate change and evolution as global scams... which is a little scary.
      I'm really being general in my descriptions though. Most of these things don't apply to most religious people, y'know? I might try to shake someone's faith on a case by case basis I suppose.
      Am I going to challenge the faith of a dying man? Obviously not.
      If someone was playing the lottery because he believed he had divine luck... well, I'll probably say something.
      I don't mind telling someone they're wrong about the origin of human life in the same way I wouldn't mind telling someone they're wrong about the color of the sky. It just depends on the context.

      I often find myself asking questions similar to your 2nd point. I am an agnostic (Christian), but if you want the best answers (from a theistic viewpoint) you should take a look at Inspiring Philosophy's channel. IP and Destiny debated a few years ago on God's existence for starters. Very clever and honest guy, check him out. I'd like to preface this little discussion by specifying that when I mention God, I am solely referring to the Christian God for the sake of simplicity.
      As for your questions,
      To your 1st point, "Can god create a boulder too heavy for him to lift" If there is a God, I think it would make sense for him to be omnipotent and not to be constrained by his own creations. I think part of the Epicurus paradox stems from asking this question.
      To your 2nd point, which I think can be effectively summarized as "Why does a loving God let bad things happen, or create bad things?" to which I can say, I don't know and this question stumps many. Stephen Fry (rhetorically) asked Jordan Peterson a similar question. Why does God create parasitic worms which burrow into the feet of famished African children? Why does God allow children to die from cancer? Why doesn't God punish and prevent criminals and terrible men from committing acts of savagery? Thus the Epicurus paradox arises in conjunction with your 1st point.
      To your 3rd point, there are quite a few ways to prove God's existence. One can argue from an evidentiary standpoint (using science and reasoning through it) or philosophically, which, I find, requires more deep thinking and introspection. These are the two mainstream arguments in Christianity, from what I've seen, to answer this fundamental question.
      Will God punish you for not believing in him? I'll answer this question by presuming that God is omniscient. If you're truly not convinced by all the apologetics you have seen in your life, provided that you have been inquisitive and honestly seeking the answers, you will not be punished. If you dogmatically reject the very notion of God and aren't willing to consider and debate the reasons and evidence, then I believe that God will punish you.
      I've enjoyed thinking about this and writing it all down, please let me know what you think of my 'rebuttals', though I don't like to consider this a debate or an argument.

    Also agree that just because you disagree on one or two things doesnt make you completely incompatible.
    I had a girl thirsting for me hard on tinder before, she was super into me, was doing the whole complain when dont respond, really wants to see me yadayada.
    Then the Roe V Wade thing happened and she asked me my policy on abort out of nowhere and I said eh I'm like 50/50 prolife/choice, I think if someone has a kid that they cant financially pay for and will lead that child to misery then they should drop it, but that doesnt mean to avoid contraceptive and use that, but on the flip side, if you can care for child but just dont want it, then you should have taken the right precautions, or have it and put it up for adoption.
    Always kinda been my view, but she apparently hated my answer and dropped me on the spot. Never even got to know her position and I was like "wow what a rollercoaster, you were lusting for me so hard then ask me a political idea, and drop me instantly off a pretty milquetoast answer, probably dodged a bullet? lmao"
    But its still wild to me cause it happened more than just that example, its just one example that I disagreed on like ONE thing with someone and they completely removed me. Which I guess does me no favors in either side of the political isle cause im pretty much as moderate as can be anymore, so unless I find other moderates I dont really secure new friendships 😂I'm sure theres been missed opportunities because of other reasons but theres been a lot of friendship drops/fails over just random political talks that I didnt even wanna be apart of.

    Destiny if you are getting into WWI, listen to Dan Carlin's Blueprint for Armageddon .
    It's an incredibly detailed deep-dive on WWI, but more in the vain of the human experience. Its descriptive on the experience of individual soldiers while keeping an eye on the political landscape and situations between countries. Cannot recommend hard enough.

    Destiny was so mean to poor Kraut at the end there. He’s a good dude. His voice could take on the elitist air of a William F Buckley Jr, an American from New England. He also reminded me of Mark Steyn who would fill in for Rush Limbaugh sometimes giving us an update on Uyghurs for Wednesday.

    I love when Destiny gives advice he doesn't actually follow. My man really got high on his own supply after the redpill shit.
