I’m STILL going to see this film because of the nostalgia of it, because of Denzel being attached to it. And most of all (unlike other sequels) Ridley Scott has returned to direct it. I trust his vision.
The first gladiator is one of my favourite movies ever i dont like people judging this second movie and comparing it to the first although i understand human nature enough to realise it is natural for people to do that but i would urge people to look at this movie as a separate film and i bet most people will think this an extrodinary fantastic movie also the cast alone is one of the best ensembles you will ever see they are exceptional and so is the movie

Denzel made the movie for me. Yes I am biased I love the guy in everything he was in, but his character & his performance just made the sequel more convincing for my interest. What I really like about both Gladiator movies, I felt it more this time around, was it to me not only recreated the glory of Rome but it also showed a mirror to us in the West especially the USA the most. We are so much like the Romans. From warfare, to gladiator combat, nasty politics, to Republican-Democratic virtue I saw America.
The bad guys, except for Denzel, were not as bad as Phoenix in the first movie. The son doesn’t hold a candle to Russell Crowe, it took me half the movie to realise that that actor was supposed to be the son of Russell Crowe and was supposed to have the same amount of vengeance or hatred or anger and to me he was just some other character in the film until I finally realised who they wanted him to be so I think he was miscast and they needed a much more dramatic actor in that part.
When G1 came out it had a lot of haters. Russell Crowe being a NZ born Aussie with a bad accent playing a spaniard didn't fly. Plus he had a lousy reputation as a diva. Ask the hotel staff and the phone saga.
Completely different (as in fake) world compared to what was created in the first. Ridley Scott (so good when he used to care) needs to stop denigrating humanity with this kind of pablum. Denzel (great in his younger years) probably needs to stop too (at least he didn't stick his tongue in his cheek ad nauseum). And poor Connie Nielsen (so good in the first) should have bowed out when she saw the script. Terrible writing. So tiring hearing the crowd's ongoing misplaced and unwarranted cheers and the constant clanging sound of metal on metal when it was metal on flesh. Terrible movie. But most people will like it because they love CGI blood.
It's a shame that the sequel was such a hit awful mess. Silly sequel. Terrible CGI. Bad dialogue. Unmemorable new score. Central hero that did not have the gravitas of a Russel Crowe. And a story revealed through terrible exposition. And i love Denzel but i don't understand why there's such buzz around his performance in a mediocre movie 😕 Shoulda left the Gladiator original alone.

I went for the first day of the first show and it was average . To be honest I feel the expectations didn't meet . Russell Crowe is irreplaceable.
