This is much nicer than the Pontins in Ainsdale near where I live. They’re an appealing company, all there parks and hotels are like this.
How these places are allowed to remain open is a mystery to me
The issue is that local councils have no power over guest accommodation, on step in when it comes down to food hygiene. It is very grim, just thankful that the site is to be closed for 3 years!

The Brean Sands resort featured on BBC watchdog a few years ago because of hygiene and safety issues. People were reporting things like mouldy pillows, brown pool water, broken play equipment. Disgusting.
Went there about 4 years ago and it was just as bad. I’m shocked this week pace is still allowed to operate. The room was a health hazard and after spending about an hour there we had to find another hotel. Never again!

I love how it says ‘Revolution’ on one of the skate ramps as it literally looks like a Soviet housing block. I read recent trip advisor reviews from June this year & still as bad.🤣

I'm at brean right now.. every time I walk past pontins I have a quick look of anything had changed. I waste like 5 mins of my life looking at that disgrace (and yes nothing ever changed)

We used to go there every year for a dancing competition before they built the new units - this vidoe doesnt even compare to what we used to have to stay in. The same standard of cleaning : ) but with half doors missing even broken window with tape to patch it up. We had to go there for the competition as everything was booked up in the area at the time with so many people travelling from around the world but the craic was mighty (best of a bad situation). Don't get me wrong we were kids and loved every minute of it - I guarantee that my parents though had something to say back then also. When they put the new units in they were lovely (what you are seeing in this video) clearly not cared for though - alwys will have fond memories from Brean sands regardless of the shoddy park

My parents used to have a caravan in Brean when I was a kid we used to go every other weekend. We used to take our kids there about 15 years ago. Never realised that holiday park was that bad. I used to love it there as a kid especially the amusement arcades and the beaches. Sadly as you get older it either gets worse or just see how it really is.

I used to take my daughter here years ago for a cheap weekend. It was just about bearable for a quick break. The last time we went I swore we'd never go back after the chalet stank, there was no electricity and someone had pinched the telly!! The breakfast in the restaurant was vile and congealed to top it all 3 days after we left the ceiling in the main entertainment room collapsed injuring people.
Brean sands is a lovely little place, it's such a shame this horrible place isn't bulldozed and a nice holiday complex built!
The staff are lovely though. Feel sorry for them.

They have left it get like this and it’s upsetting as I used to come here so many times when I was little but now I go to unity farm down the road lovely caravan park. The staff don’t seem to be bothered at pontins I know it’s only cheap but u still expect a safe and clean environment also when u said your chalet stunk of smoke someone put a photo on fb the once of a cleaner sat in the bedroom smoking so maybe the cleaner had a smoke although wouldn’t call them cleaners great video x

Ha ha!! I came here for a trip down memory lane! I used to wrestle for a living back in the late 90's early 2000's. Not sure what's it's like to holiday there but spending time in the blue coats...(or was it red coats there?) Staff quarters was WILD!! OH the story's I have. Best times of my life. Do they still have wrestling?
Edit: I commented before watching the video. WOW, this place has really gone down hill. It wasn't exactly the Ritz when I was there but... oof!

Went there 5 years ago and it was terrible then. We asked for are money back and moved to John fowler site down thr Road. Remember while we queue with many others a couple asked us why we were all queuing up and said we wanted are money back as it was awful. They said they were coming there for many years and loved it. Nothing changed at all.

Aye I've been to pontins once, for one night. I remember queueing to get our room key and there were others queueing to complain.
Millions was spent on refurbishment and staff training on all Pontins sites in the late 90s. Then Britannia hotels took them over in the 2000s. Went down hill from then onwards.
I was a nineties staff member it wasn't great but it was a damn sight better than this

I went to a pontins about 5/6 years ago. I went in to put my bag in the bedroom to find someone else's dirty pants on the radiator. Also half a bottle of lambrini in the fridge with lipstick on the bottle. I was given a free food voucher (I think this was a punishment for my complaint) I would never go back it was the worst 3 days holiday ever and I only stopped as I had to see family (24 of us) and nowhere else local had any space for this many.

Brittania own all this and they don't really care about cleanliness and haven't moved with the times some parts are quite luxurious compared to the camp we used to go to in the sixties but that camp was spotlessly clean because on the day you left you had to clean the chalet yourself with strong izal disinfectant .

Britannia also own the Grand in Llandudno, we walked out after an hour it was just as bad.
Haha, this brings back memories. I stayed here in 2019 when I was rock climbing. Arrived on site and given keys, only to find that a family were already in my "chalet". My girlfriend then went to the onsite newsagents and got a Starbucks chilled Latte drink. Drank it, and it tasted a bit strange, so she looked at the date. It was 2 years out of date..... I feel for them however as I am sure they are barely able to turn a profit.
I used to go there all the time and in my opinion the entertainment is rlly good for the younger ones and the arcades are fun but the cleaners rlly need to up there game cuz it’s always dirty and a bit run down but overall ig it’s a good place for the entertainment and stuff
Went there years ago and it was exactly the same. The only good thing was the chippy across the road it was beautiful

I really love pontins I’m only 14 though last time I went was 2018, all I do with family is stay on site and wonder around the place on my own and get back to the shalley it’s so fun idk why people think it’s hell.

it was in that state the last time i was there (20 years ago) when we got there i took one look refused to pay and walked across the road and payed for a caravan for a fortnight

When you go on holiday you expect to be able to relax,be spoilt etc. You don't expect to come face to face with dirt,grime, broken furniture etc. I could go on with the list but it's not worth it. You work hard all year round then you take a earned break and you are confronted with that.
The owners of Pontins obviously don't care and are determined to run it into the ground.

One of the worst experiences of my life trying to holiday there for four nights! I will forever feel guilty for making my 4 year old stay there! Unhygienic, unsanitary, dangerous, and completely ready to be bulldozed! We made it to two nights before we came back home again. Felt so vunerable. Had strangers trying the locks in the middle of the night, drunken antics, copious vomiting of intoxicated guests outside, broken glass everywhere, mould, grease, faeces, blood, used condoms, dirt and grime! Never ever again will I ever put myself or my son through that again! Cannot believe this place is still going! I will never forgive myself for giving this dump a go!! Absolutely atrocious
They must be! There is no way this is a legal and legitimate way of running a business, let alone a business in the hospitality sector! Safety and security is absolutely not at the top of their priority list!
No words to describe what that was like. No excuses to try to rent out a room in that state.Used to go to Pontins years ago and always found things basic but clean. Would never have accepted something like that. If it was me walk away and demand refund not fit for habitation

Oh my god, I literally had my head in my hands watching how dilapidated and run down this place is. It looks abandoned now. Unfortunately it’s had a complete lack of investment which is so very sad. Thanks for sharing, you’ve done a great job. Ps please don’t throw anti-bacterial wipes down the toilet, they’re supposed to go into the bin. Remember the three ps for toilet use - pee, poop and (toilet) paper.

Oh My Days! I used to go to there as a kid in the 70s & 80s and it was lovely, the last time I went was in 2006 and it was going down hill then. There is no way I would stop in them conditions, Pontins should be ashamed! They want reporting to the local Authority and Enviromental Health. BTW how much did they pay you to stay? because there would be no way I would pay them

I thought Pontins had gone into administration. Obviously it is in terminal decline as the park could be renovated but that would cost millions and would they ever get their investment back? From the facilities it looks like one of the better Pontins.

How can they let it go so downhill. Use to go to a few around england each year with my parents and a friend. Nothing like that 40 years ago. Was great back in olden days. Shocked to see all these pontins videos how now.
I do not know for the U.K. but leisure parks are closed in France so this state is possibly due to the fact nobody cares for the place if closed. It should be , even closed but if it has been closed for months, it can explain . Even though , several parts are in a bad state.
ive been here before. the only best thing is the arcade in my opinion.
Went to a Pontins at Lythem St Annes near Blackpool about 1969, 1970 when I was a child. The chalets of this style were new and ok back then.
At the camp you visited in the video, the upgrades such as double glazing and shower have created a ventilation and condensation problem that is very difficult to put right. These chalets do not look to have had any specialist cleaning periodically to remove black mold. Over the years the fitted furnishings look to have failed the test of time. The general cleaning does not seem to include most areas as they are so grotty and filthy. What a mess. The curtains should be replaced by clean ones regularly. The mattresses should be cleaned between occupants and any that are stained with bodily fluids should be replaced. The stained one should be removed and cleaned by a specialist cleaning company or disposed of.
The whole camp is very run down and needs much investment. Maybe, Pontin's need to rethink. Maybe think out of the box to come up with a more sustainable business model that is more focused on what people want nowadays when looking for a holiday or a short break.

Apparantly they can’t do anything they only have remit over food preparation areas no laws on accommodation standards or hygiene so of course pontins take advantage! I think they also have powers if rodents are found but they will be smart to hide that I’m sure.

The fact people still book pontins amazes me considering they've had awful press and feed back over the past 10 years and the fact the owners fail to either give up instead of robbing people with there scummy parks is disgusting
For a low income family there isn't much choice unfortunately! I went every year to a haven or pontins as a kid and loved it. As an adult i wouldn't go near them

Regardless of if they were closed. Which they were not, this was filmed back in October of 2019. They would have been closed to the public, but then places like this tend to close down on off seasons anyway. They could have used that time to renovate, they had months. But nope, just let the mould and stuff grow. Don't make excuses for these gross places.
at least it looks better than when we played in a darts comp. there in the 80,s!
It needs help this place
Ive been there. Filthiest holiday camp ever, cigarette butts everywhere. Its like a film set with a post apocalyptic, nuclear war feel. Pleasant area for a little holiday but they need to spend millions repairing, cleaning and revamping absolutely everything. I doubt they will invest the money it needs. The staff were friendly though.

What they need to do is take down all the mouldy 60"s accomodation & rebuild modern hotel style rooms. I think Butlins is a little bit better but still not to current day standard's.
Bulldoze it and start again
Butlins is incredible now. They’ve rebuilt hotels such as the wave, wich is my favourite, with incredible rooms, such as the children’s room with TVs, led lights and an oceanic theme and spent HUGE amounts on a new pool with new slides, redone the entertainment, new bowling ally’s, restaurants are amazing and arcades are great too. Everything has been updated wich is why butlins has a 4.3 star rating. It’s such a great holiday. Best I’ve been on in the uk. They also have more outdoor space, such as new parks, crazy golf, archery. It’s So incredible.

We went there once, in the early 1990’s. It was rubbish then. Filthy water in the boating pool. The only good thing there was the indoor swimming pool! It was the newest facility in the place. I can’t believe that it’s still going! I can’t believe anyone would ever want to return to the place either. Obviously some do otherwise it would have closed ages ago. Place looks like a prison camp.

I have heard about people booking these holiday camp staycations as the country comes out of lockdown restrictions. With Most facilities shutdown . Is that camp actually open ? Looks a death trap.

If you're smelling tobacco smoke and it's strong then that's a clear sign there is no regular cleaning. I smoke like a chimney and people tell me it hardly smells of it and the reason for that is regular deep cleaning and airing the house

Excellent Video Lucy, first look at your channel. Was all of this filmed over same dates and when was it roughly please ? I did think you had managed to get in whilst closed before it reopens but maybe it's a few years ago, whatever it looks pretty sad and a contrast to what the good holiday resorts are doing, Haven seem to have improved a lot of theirs during lockdown. Look forward to more of this kind of video from you

@@ExploringWithLucy sorry for late reply, was fine but during the night these idiots partied all night after a gas leak, my family called security but they didn't do anything, absolute shithole, but end of the holiday (we cut it 2 days short, we were staying there for 5) we went down to Wookey Hole then headed home.
