This match kind of summed up what would be Hingis's later years on tour. She was able to get through scrubs due to her consistency and tactical nouse but against top players she was toast. Her match against Capriati in the SFs seemed an inevitability that she would lose.
In the first set, it looks like McQuillan did well with occasionally hitting a short slice backhand which brought Martina up into no man's land and then hitting a deep shot behind Martina's position on the court. That was a good tactic because Martina did sometimes have a tendency to reach for those types of shots instead of move all the way up to them.
@LINJ638 I'm just going by what the commentators said and it is a possibly as the French are very into there tennis and don't forget the past. They either love u or not. Just like the English crowd at Wimbledon. Just my opinion.

Today's younger players would get their asses chewed, trashed and demolished on to death by old timers like Martina Hingis.
