The redwings look really sloppy compared to the Truman's. I'm actually waiting for my Truman's in black shrunken bison that are getting delivered today! So excited 😆

Um, well I already got a similar Truman pair with a different toe and the Grant Stone field ones with the wedge outsole, so I guess I won't need any hard t' find RW boots anytime soon, but I'm not as crazy about the other Truman lasts as maybe the 55 they discontinued and I increasingly feel like most boots that DON'T offer that extra arch support probably don't do my feet any favors. We'll see. I've complained plenty about black boots but then bought those White's boots in black but I don't care for that last or the sizing much, so don't know if the teacore will ever turn brown................

Just the fact that the Truman boots are true moc toe puts them ahead of the RW. The materials & other attention to detail add to the superiority of the Truman boots. Add in the price differential and the gap is chasmic.

Agree that I prefer the Trumans. If I can ever make it down there to get sized, I decided I was a Billie boot in black or gray months ago.

I’ll take the red wings they look cooler and more unique. But I do think the Buffalo balls wrinkle skin lookers better.

Sorry but English country boots from Trickers Crockett and Jones and Cheaney knock spots of any boots out there

Truman as of a few weeks ago doesn't plan on an 8" Moc Toe nor are they restocking according to their website any of their current Moc Toes. That's right from their customer service folks. What a shame. I had asked about the Uplands. Curious that their website actually mentions that they are not restocking. I love a good lug, mini lug or flat wedge or half sole Moc Toe. Any alternatives outside of Truman for ready to buy Moc Toes with good build quality, leather & color options w/good sole options? Cheers!

Probably the Grant Stone Field Boot though it has a bumper and a different aesthetic altogether… still a moc though

What happened with the red wing hack?

Truman no question. A guy on RUclips chopped up a pair of his Trumans 6” in dark coyote rough out they are built as well as any PNW boot out there just not stitch down . All of my Trumans with the exception of 3 pairs were built during their BTO days (I have 27 pairs including 3 oxfords and 5 MTO and 2 special editions) collection includes all three lasts 55,20,79 build quality is great in all of them. Truman Boots make my Redwings look cheap.
Just my opinion . Also have a variety of other boots in different categories .

Should I buy the Truman 20 Last half a size smaller if the 79 last fits me very well and a bit loosely?

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  5 месяцев назад +1

The 20 and the 79 are the same length so I recommend the same size but if you’d size down for your next 79 then definitely do it for the 20

@DalesLeatherworks thanks for your informations. That's difficult.. I go half size up from 11.5 to 12 because the 79 are too flat on the toes. In Red Wing Moc Toes I wear an US11.5

I’m taking the Truman’s over Redwing too. Honestly it’s not close. I feel like Truman’s craftsmanship and finish is underrated. I want that exact makeup for my collection, the Black Bison upland with lug sole. All my Truman’s are 79 last, I want to try the moc toe, and I want a bison leather. Hopefully Truman makes more uplands and keeps them in stock.

      @@low_perspective Definitely! I have a wide foot and on the 79 last I’m a 8.5EE and on the 20 last I’m a 8.5.
The 20 Last is more generous on the instep and forefoot.

Dale, I got the delta arch from Nicks a couple of weeks back and it has been great. While it only gets the arch support to 80% of Nicks, my Truman's and Reed Wings are much better now. Unfortunately, I now have to order more so I don't constantly shuffle them around and wait around 6-8 weeks for them.

Huntsman all the way. There's a reason it's already sold. The profile is what really does it for me; it's not as chonky as the Trumans, the Gro-Cord sole is great (have it on a pair of Merchants), and taller is already better.

    Truman wins every time imo.
Im not a redwing fan at all. Took me over a month to break in my 1907’s and they still feel half as good as my whites perry select moc toes.

I know Truman say the 20 last fits 'like an E' but the reality is that is only in the toe box not the ball of the foot. I would be in heaven if they made a true E width 20 last, or even something as wide as their 79 EE last in the ball of the foot.
Had to size up a full size in the 20 last to get the same width as the 79 EE. Made the boot too long.

If I have narrow feet with little volume, I had to go with the 79 Last TTS because they are narrow at the front and would otherwise press on the toe from above. What do I have to choose for the 20 last?

I don’t think it’s much of a contest really between the two companies, to me Truman is a much better choice for reasons too many to name but their overall quality and attention to detail is far superior.

“Shrunken Bison looks like ballsack” haha. I guess I can see the similarity of texture. If it were like a Badalassi natural Minerva type of color, then maybe I would not buy it out of fear of them being called scrotum boots.
The RWs seem like a $350-400 boot, and I guess I could maybe see the $495 or whatever they charged at release, given the heritage and unique sole. It had an attractive silhouette, though it’s not anything super unique. I’m not much into overpaying for something due to rarity, so my winner will usually be the better boot. The Truman seems to be the better boot from what I am seeing.

I own a lot of boots from all the well-known US makers. Some imports as well. I think in this comparison, like the Red Wing boots more. I am well aware of the Trumans being superior boots over the Red Wing heritage line and the Trumans in the comparison are better boots. I think the rarer boots appeal more to me more as a collector, but not enough to spend more than a couple hundred over the Trumans to get them. I do think Red Wing had the market share in this general price range until Truman and possibly Grant Stone came about. Red Wing has been sort of stagnant in improving and being more competitive.

I am a huge red wing collector, but I also wear red wing. That said, I don’t think I’d get either boot. I don’t like the tall moc toe and shrunken bison is not a leather I’m fond of.
