I love Truman. They're that perfect middle ground boot that's not just a couple hundred bucks, but also not 700 or 800. They compare to Parkhurst, Oak Street, etc.
@@chadgraber4575 Don't know. I paid around $530 new for both my last pairs of Nick's, and less than that for my Drew's. My Goodyear machine welted Trumans were ~$500 new. My hand welted boots from Willie's Leathers cost less than Trumans. Prices are all over the place.
@@williamswiger7547 Yeah the more I think about it, you're right. They're a little above the ones I mentioned, but not quite the super high stuff. Almost.
@nobledead there's actually another guy on youtube who cut apart his Truman boot a while back. and he actually does a more in depth look at the materials inside. I do like seeing the puncture test here though.
I have had my Truman’s for about 2 years and have used them for casual wear (the first year, 5 times a week) and then for construction work (the last year, 10 hours a day, 5 days a week) and they have held up great! They fit like gloves and have remained very comfortable. I am due for the first resole
Finally!!!! awesome video!! Actually Truman boots were my third pair being a step up from Red Wing! Still love my IR but you can tell the quality difference as soon as you have them in your possession. Nice!
Man the level of production is insane, I work with some huge kids gaming channel and the B roll, editing and overall production of these videos blows my mind, just things like rendering 'cheapo' on the boot outsoul is so much added work but the end result is crazy, keep it up !!!!
Truman makes a good boot. I have quite a few pairs and actually they compare well to my PNW ankle boots. Still like my Viberg and Whites MP multiple pairs slightly more but Truman is not far behind for less money.
I have two pairs of Trumans and I love the boot. I would like to see the older version cut in half to see how they changed over time. I think the premium redwing description is spot on, tough but doesn't weigh three pounds. The weight is my main concern with PNW boots. I love the boot but hate the weight. Truman's are a little over two pounds, my Drew loggers are 3 pounds and I hardly wear the loggers. The Truman's I wear all the time, the sweet spot between weight and toughness. I also wear my Redwings (iron ranger and 875 moctoes) the most, coming in at 1 lb 12 oz. each. I am a finish carpenter and I need to be light on my feet, walking into finished houses. The loggers are only used when I have to work outdoors or in the snow, then I can appreciate a really tough boot, but that isn't often. I prefer the lighter boots for casual stuff.
I'm glad we finally get to see Truman's go through the band saw. But I'm sticking with my theory that there is some kind of tiff between Weston and Vince. You can't be cutting boots in half this long and just now be getting to Truman. Then the response is "they're pretty good." It seems like Truman would be a brand that this channel would want to get behind and instead the video felt rushed and glossed over. Truman is 3x the boot Jim Green makes (I own both) and those have been hyped to no end. Anyway, thanks for doing the vid!
All these boot channels are fairly ridiculous, although I watch them from time to time. Most of the people who wear these “lifestyle” boots, including this guy; aren’t really working in them, so something like Red Wings would last basically forever. I own a couple pairs of Truman’s now, along with White’s, Viberg, Dayton, Red Wings, Frye; and a few other brands. Truman’s are tougher than, say, Alden Indy’s or Red Wing Iron Rangers, both of which are tough enough to wear to office jobs and take for walks in the park. I wore a pair of Thorogood 1892 boots for 2 summers while working outside every day at a state park, and they held up fine.
It's a very impressive amount of leather underfoot on this boot, I'm surprised Weston didn't note the massive slab of midsole leather. Truman looks like a great brand, I've been eyeing the White's MP but $700 and a lead time is a hard sell for me. Now I know I can get a pretty similarly built Truman without waiting months, and for $200 less.
@@markburnette465 It's a weird market segment because they latch on so hard to resoleable boots but I'd easily wager any day that most of these boots never see a resole. It's great that they're resoleable, of course. But I think a great majority of guys are overspending for an inevitability that will not materialize.
@@MillieMoses I've owned both White's and Truman and the White's are a different beast. I do not wear boots the same as I used to and the White's are more bit than I would ever need, but they are well built for sure. Word from Truman's social media account is that there aren't gonna ve doing boots like this for very much longer. They even said they wouldn't be doing rambler leather anymore.
@@ElNietoPRVince is saying they are done with “style boots” and all current boots are done. They are looking to get much bigger but not like the rest of the PNW brands. I have a couple pairs of trumans and i love them. I work in IT for an industrial company. I don't usually do a whole lot out in our pits/yards but i do sometimes have to do things out there. My Truman's in Waxy Mohawk are my go to boot for those situations. Sturdy enough and tough enough that i can trust them to protect me and not blow up, but nice enough to go back to the office when i am done and not be super heavy and hot. I love the leathers they use. The Gallun Teton Stag leather they use is by far my new favorite. I am really close to ordering a new pair right now with their black Friday sales even though i know i shouldn't.

I bought a pair of Truman captoes in oxblood doubleshot, and the build quality/leather was insane for the price, unfortunately they were just too small for me. I followed their sizing guide and went 11EE but I should have done the 11.5EE. If they made a EEE the 11 would probably have worked but yeah I had to sell them on

I went to the their website. They have some really great leathers to choose from but every boot I looked at was cap toe and Vibram V-100 lug soles. I don’t like cap toe boots and I need a smooth sole. I love my Nick’s builder pros but… I learned that I don’t want a V-100 sole on any new boots I get. I farm for a living in Mississippi and we get almost 60 inches of rain and tracking mud everywhere is bad with Vibram V-100’s. As soon as my new bison leather Nicks packers in arrive I’m sending my builder pros back to get V-bar soles put on.
The old 79 Last Boots from a few years ago are the ones that need to be cut apart and compared. The people that bought Trumans for the first nine years got that last, most still do today, and it's not a great one by any means. Wide in the heel, narrow in the waist and toe box. I had to go to a wide width for the first time ever to fit in it. The 20 last used in the boots reviewed here resolved many of those issues. That said, only the moc toe boots and a handful of others use that last, and no widths are available in it unlike the 79. And that's really the compromise that Weston failed to discuss, yes, you can get your boots right away, yes, they are cheaper than Nick 's or whites, but you're giving up the ability to buy a truly handmade boot that is customizable down to the small details and made on one of a variety of lasts to fit your foot as well as possible all the way to a FF width if needed. And at the end of the day, these are Goodyear welted, mostly machine made boots that can be turned out much faster than a hand- lasted, stitchdown variant. That may or may not matter to you. Agree it's hard to argue with the overall quality. Solid boot for the money. Just read the fine print before you order, 15 business day holds on all exchanges and refunds, plus restock fees that will leave you on the hook for return shipping costs plus $30 per pair. And beware if you wear a large size, they don't like to make them, don't ordinarily stock them, and really hate to take them back if they don't fit. Guaranteed restock fee with anything over a size 12 I would imagine, unless you are part of the cult-like following that owns multiple pairs and is in their "Loyalty" clique, I mean club... Thanks for the review, and for letting me know about the other products not related to boots that you like.
Can you compare how close Johnston and Murphy shoes are to Walmart shoes? I have always loved the Johnston and Murphy shoes but I can't help but feel like maybe I over spent??
If they gusseted up those tongues I’d buy a pair and put them to work. To me, if I’m wearing boots I want them to have a fully gusseted tongue. Just a personal preference. Great boots though.
I wore my Truman to work on job sites for a couple years and held up beautifully. Not every day but at least two days a week. No issues and super comfortable
Maybe I missed it but I would have prefered a more in depth look at the heel counter area- there's something in there, but what is it? Thermo plastic? some kind of fiber board? some kind of leather? the lack of an internal counter cover is unfortunate, but knowing what's in there is really necisary when considering this brand.
The preamble about there being a "a great demand for american made boots" is funny knowing he said on twitter they are exiting the heritage boot market because its not big enough and companies only survive doing it as a side hustle.
@@bobjohnson6321Nobody really knows. He's claiming they're going to cancel the Stone and Coach Rambler versions, which are their number two and number three sellers. Sounds like he had a falling out with CF Stead and flew off the handle. Guy doesn't strike me as the most stable of individuals, unlike someone like Andrew at Parkhurst, who comes across as one of the nicest, most genuine people alive. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's a ploy to sell more boots during the holiday season . Or it could be true. The irony of his language is that for him, Truman Boot IS a side hustle. Apparently he owns a huge ranch in the Spokane area, comes from money, and spends most of his time tending his ranch and having fun in the outdoors. Well, unless he's burying his own employees on Twitter as he did recently LOL.
Would you ever consider doing an episode on Johnston and Murphy? Specifically their Kipton Plain Toe Boot? It’s been a good casual boot for my experience for the money and would like to see your take on it.
I think saying they are a “step” up in quality compared to Red Wing or Wolverine is a tad insulting. To me Truman is way better than both and it ain’t even close!
Damn he got the brown RO pair I’ve been wanting email alert on for when they have my size in stock. Maybe Truman will do another run of this Upland because of the video.
any chance you could do a review on the ariat rebar wedge moc toe work boot? went to a boot store to buy thorogoods and ended up with those as the thorogoods were out of stock lol
First they stopped doing stitch down, then stopped using vibram soles, then stopped with the Norwegian storm welt, now they have more limited leather and models? This brand is quickly reverting to lower quality mass produced footwear. Glad I got a pair while the getting was good!
And right when the owner says they are ready to exit the casual boot business. Either that or he's determined to sell some boots before the holidays and all will return to normal next year. Owner is definitely kind of suss, we'll see what happens in the end. No question. The boots are of good quality though, as they should be given what they cost.

Consider the lowest amount you would take as a highly skilled worker and multiply that by the number of hours needed working on each pair, then add material costs etc. These companies aren't making billions, they seem to just be making ok profits. $150 boots and shoes are made using the cheapest synthetic materials (even if those have some benefits) and cheap if not actual slave labor. Many of our everyday things in the US are only cheap due to our use of slavery through other countries' weak laws.
Spent big money on White's. Mismatched boots, leather shoelaces soaked in oil and they literally snapped in two uses. NO customer service. Never again White. Never again. Custom made my A. The boots lasted 2 months then....trash.

Truman boots are sick! I love mine. Wish I had more.
Thanks for the video! 👍🏻
Congrats on 1 Million...
Finally Truman!!
Can you compare how close Johnston and Murphy shoes are to Walmart shoes? I have always loved the Johnston and Murphy shoes but I can't help but feel like maybe I over spent??
Those are fantastic looking boots!
Thorogood moctoe boots are not two pieces of leather. Their moctoe is one piece that is pinched and sticked. Just an FYI
You can’t tempt us to cut open an older model and then not do it. Dooo it, dooo it, dooo it.
Do John Lofgren
Weston, you absolutely must get a pair of "The Brant Shoe's" to test and review on your channel. They are the best minimalist shoe on the market.
He’s the James Hoffman of boots. The scary thing is, you know what I’m talking about…
Hey what’s the jacket from your video thumb nail pick?
You hit 1 mill!!!!
If they gusseted up those tongues I’d buy a pair and put them to work. To me, if I’m wearing boots I want them to have a fully gusseted tongue. Just a personal preference. Great boots though.
Disappointing gusset , hipster footwear.
you can always use a false tongue. I've worn two pairs of Trumans to work and have had zero issues
I mean your cobbler will do it in 5 mins lol. Slide them a $20 and its done quick. Cobblers love this simple easy work..

@@MetalBootGuyfalse tongue ain’t gonna cut it.
I wore my Truman to work on job sites for a couple years and held up beautifully. Not every day but at least two days a week. No issues and super comfortable
Are they steel toed though?

Lets do viberg finally
Maybe I missed it but I would have prefered a more in depth look at the heel counter area- there's something in there, but what is it? Thermo plastic? some kind of fiber board? some kind of leather?
the lack of an internal counter cover is unfortunate, but knowing what's in there is really necisary when considering this brand.
The preamble about there being a "a great demand for american made boots" is funny knowing he said on twitter they are exiting the heritage boot market because its not big enough and companies only survive doing it as a side hustle.
say more about this. are they making changes?
Not bad constructed boots.
I think saying they are a “step” up in quality compared to Red Wing or Wolverine is a tad insulting. To me Truman is way better than both and it ain’t even close!
So would you say they’re a step above redwing and wolverine?
@@NDB469 I would say they are 2-3 steps above Red Wings and I wouldn’t even mention Truman with Wolverine in the same sentence.
@@MRIVERA4396super.
Is the heel counter leather?
Damn he got the brown RO pair I’ve been wanting email alert on for when they have my size in stock. Maybe Truman will do another run of this Upland because of the video.
I'd love to see more new balances
any chance you could do a review on the ariat rebar wedge moc toe work boot? went to a boot store to buy thorogoods and ended up with those as the thorogoods were out of stock lol
Is it an actual leather counter?
Can you please make a leather backpack video
I'd nab some insoles, but I wear a size 15. Any chance for larger sizes at some point?
Rose anvil and nicks didn't make a drifter tho 🤔
How's it working man I've noticed that working man only buy boots up to about $300 anything above that is not for the working man that is for the bougie man
Cut everything in half. Don't ask what we want or don't want. 😂
Thanks for this one Weston!
@@JAP3699 Why did you reply to me? your post has nothing to do with what I wrote.
Spent big money on White's. Mismatched boots, leather shoelaces soaked in oil and they literally snapped in two uses. NO customer service. Never again White. Never again. Custom made my A. The boots lasted 2 months then....trash.
Odd! I just ordered a pair yesterday!
Same here! I went with the Sesame tan moc toe. This will be my first pair of Truman's. What did you get?

Congrats boot brother!! Love me the moc toes! I picked up black waxed Uplands in11.5 EE from their seconds with a slight discount and then with their Black Friday discount as well! How could I not?!🤷🏻♂️
I agree⬆️ buy less and buy better!❤
RED WING DRAFTSMITH?
Like to ware quality leather boots with shorts for town and trails in hot climates what would you recommend?
why he did gate keep Frye AND Truman !?
It’s happening.
4:58 is that the inside of an Iron Ranger?
This seems like the right place to ask: Does anyone know a good quality low-drop or no-drop men's boots brand? I'm looking for leather boots, not synthetic stuff.
Thanks a lot!
hi Weston, im pretty new to the channel and i need some recomendations. Im pretty into fashion and like my shoes to look good. IM looking into something bikerstyle but i also like the quality of wolverine. i kinda like the look of tims or Dr martins but the quality is pretty bad. I dont do fake leather im a leather guy. so what would be a good. Street/biker/workboot that looks good and that has that wolverien quality boots for me thats into fashion.
His name is not Rose. ROSE ANVIL is his brand. His name is Weston Kay.
@@MaximSupernov thanks ill edit
You should cut some urban wolf club boots
So glad to finally see Truman's cut and that the inside looks as good as the outside! :D

@JAP3699 agreed!
Redwings(USA) are only about 50% more expensive than timberlands(Bangladesh) but RW are made with better materials and the average salary in the US is 20 times higher than in Bangladesh!
I just bought my third pair of Nick's. What the heck rose anvil. SMH.
That low gusset tongue means that once they're too torn up to wear casually really can't be warn in the brush because they'll fill up with debris.
Yeah. The instant I saw that the gusset was that low at that price point just turned me off from it so I'll probably just turn around and put that money into a set of Iron Rangers probably.
I’m considering a pair of Perry select in place of this option, I get to keep $100 too!
At that point you can just have someone stitch in more material, but wear in the leather is supposed to be part of what shows the quality.
@@vtxgenie1 42 years as a pipe fitter in water reclamation plants means I never learned to go easy on boots and that tends to make them suitable only for brush mowing and irrigation work. Even with me that takes years but it ends up going past "patina"
@HappyFunTimeslmao bro what lmao you're gonna spend almost as much for no midsole or heel stack ? just get some false tongues if the gusset bothers you
Do it! Cut the old ones.
