There're several features of this Blizzcon hinting to be the perfect fit for a mobile-heavy one: 1.- It's online -> No room for boos at stage or uncomfortable questions (also screened since 2019). 2.- It will have dedicated channels for each IP -> more time to fill, many empty spots that will be very suitable for the least convention-friendly content as mobile games. 3.- They have a lot of mobile content -> The recurring statements about going to mobile at Kotic's interviews, Adham's interviews and investor's calls make pretty obvious that, after these words, they sure have a lot of projects for mobile platforms, so with the other 2 points above, this is absolutely an unique chance for showing it.

I think D4 shares same story as D3 in the way of development. Trial and error, multiple game directors, lack of clear vision and understanding of why arpg is fun. Latest update was decent but anything before that was abysmal considering Path of Exile is their main competition with Path of Exile 2 in developement. PoE is not perfect by any means but GGG never broke fundamentals of their game. Meanwhile D4 tries to simplify already simple concept of D3.
The question is, will it be released BEFORE Blizzard goes belly up? That's the only Blizzard game I buy. I would, however buy some Buldars gate sequels, if they existed.

@@markmauk8231 Sorry, but HotS is not dead. D2 dev is dead. Which is totally fine after 20 years while the game has it's niche audience (what is super cool and I love(d) this game). HotS though is in (lower efford) devolopment and still gets money I guess. And even it's eSport is currently on an upwards trend with multiple tournaments with good value. This will not be another DotA2 or LoL. Sure. But is is still working ok in it's niche and the rest... Time will tell.
Ugly Truth: the market is swarmed by younger folks who don't rely on anything more than their phones and tablets for entertainment. This is why the mobile platforms have taken a near majority within a lot of company's portfolios. I worry there may be more than one mobile game discussed at Blizzconline.
I really hope a D2 remaster happens and that it's true to the original D2 but very crisp like the 4K sprites we saw in Starcraft Remastered. I wouldn't mind some QoL changes to D2 as well or at least the option for mods to be compatible with D2 Resurrected. Can't wait man...

hope you know that the sprites in d2 where not designed the same way as sprites in starcraft. fact is D2 will not be true to the orginal. david brevik has talked about why that is in interviews and those can be found on YT. back then monitors where 4:9 bliz north used other coding tricks to make mobs activate off screen. also keep in mind all of those sprites and assets for D2 where lost 2 months before release of D2. by a bad save of the game causing data corruption. at that time they didnt think making a backup of D2 was a thing they should have dont. bliz north had to piece together what was left of the game from copies of test games they sent home with the team. all of those will have to be remade from scratch. the other thing about the sprites they arent a 3D model. the arms and legs arent attached to the body of the charactors. i wouldnt get my hopes up about it staying true to the orginal game. cuz fact is it wont be.
Considering we just got Hogger added to HotS a few weeks ago, I predict little to nothing for HotS at Blizzconline. If anything they might announce the re-return of Haunted Mines since they stated last Blizzcon that they still wanted to make it work as a map. Other than that, its status as another maintenance mode game effectively kills hopes of many wanted characters, cosmetics, and settings ever making it in. What a waste.
I think you’ve nailed it pretty well for predictions. The other big takeaway from the earnings call is that D4 and OW2 are not planned for release this year. Also this week WoW had an encrypted vendor build uploaded. This patch is labeled 9.0.5 but typically WoW’s .5 patches don’t contain the new raid. Things like catch up mechanics for alts, heritage armor quests, new character models, Side content like the bee mount and Brawler’s Guild are usually what we get in these patches.
Do you think they will do a re-release for warcraft 3 reforged its still missing a bunch of features that an RTS game should have such as a competitive ladder.
I tried a tablet. It was hard to hold, duplicated most of what my phone does in a more unwieldy form factor. It was clunky and slow compared to my phone. I had to buy all the apps again, at least the ones that were compatible. The battery was always dead. It didn't have an internet connection outside the house. After 2 months, I just set it on the shelf and its been there for 4 years now. Maybe I should have spent a few more thousand dollars on a REAL tablet...not.
After decades of being a huge Blizzard fan, I just can't get excited for anything they are working on anymore. Just like with Bioware, most of the people that made this studio great were pushed out by a corporate culture that focuses less on what their fans want and more on what makes money in the short-term. EA and Activision have bought and destroyed so many studios and IPs, it's depressing.
On that last point you mentioned, Rhykker, about mobile being a huge industry and all... I realize I'm likely in the minority of hardcore gamers here, but I actually super enjoy mobile games. The best ones, like the best Wii or Wii U or DS games in the past, all make very smart use of their unique hardware and input method for a truly innovative experience. Or, at the very least, in recent years developers have come up with innovative new ways to control genres that originate on other platforms. One of my favorite games on mobile actually has really fun and satisfying gameplay that isn't too dissimilar from your average Diablo. It's Nintendo/CyGames' own Dragalia Lost, and it's an isometric monster slaying dungeon crawler with missions that range from bite-sized monster encounters to HUGE 16-character raids that have really fun MMO mechanics. It has amazing character design, tons of RPG depth and team-building possibilities very similar to Build Possibilities in an ARPG. So between Blizzard's Hearthstone and my time playing a different ARPG on the phone, I have every confidence, especially after your Alpha Impressions video, that Diablo Immortal has a very high chance of being a really, really fun game. It honestly only makes me excited for what might be possible in the future for the other franchises. StarCraft Tower Defense anyone? :P

Everything Rhykker said in the video is what I'm expecting, too. TBC Classic announcement + beta + release date, WoW 9.1 info dump and release date, D4 fourth class reveal + gameplay, D2 Resurrected (probably the most interesting news of the convention, since we don't know if it will be a remaster or a full blown 3D remake), Diablo Immortal release date, Overwatch 2 beta and nothing or next to nothing for Starcraft (RIP) and HotS. Now if they really wanted to go crazy and generate insane hype, D4 alpha or beta or a publicly accessible demo through b.net would get people to say this was "the best Blizzcon ever" but those are both 100% speculation.
I think the reason why the Celebration pack has "coming soon" for all Diablo items is because they are related to the new class(es) which they will reveal. Or of course could be some D2 Remaster related stuff. Just my 2 cents.
I would love it if they did both unannounced hero reveals for D4, but it's unlikely. However there are some arguments for it as well as against it. Diablo 3's announcement came many years before it's release. The first reveal only had two of the five classes as opposed to three like Diablo 4. I believe that Blizzard learned a hard lesson with revealing Diablo 3 way before it eventually released and have since made efforts to not officially announce things too long before a solid release goal. The prime example here being Overwatch which was released only about a year and a half after the surprise announcement (and it had only been worked on for a relatively short time before that). Yes, they repeatedly told us that it was still early days in development and to temper our expectations at the D4 reveal, and the pandemic has probably slowed things down a bit. And yes the pace of new info has been relatively slow, but at least there is a steady pace of new info unlike other projects (OW2) and how they've done things in the past (little to nothing for months and even years and then an explosion when beta's around the corner). So I would hope that they did themselves a favor and announced the game with it much further along than they've let on, or at least with the capability of producing it at a much quicker pace than D3 was developed. I personally believe they could have announced D4 a year before they did, but they wanted a fancy cinematic and a proper demo to introduce it with, so they held back on it and tried to serve us DI to tide us over, with problematic results.
I can all but gurantee they're going to announce patch 9.1 for Shadowlands. The base patch for the expansion has been mainly completed, with most guilds clearing normal or heroic Nathria, as well as the World First on Mythic Denathrius. Not to mention the covenant campaigns being completed.
Man, I missed Quakecon 2020, but I did catch some of the duels, the Doom panels, and watched some of the streamers WAN partying. It's not the same as having a convention hall packed with fans. I think Blizzard can pull it off well, considering the main allure of Quakecon is the BYOC. I'm sure Blizz has taken the last few months to polish their presentation so they don't seem like they're overhyping the fans nor rushing their product.
I predict a new Starcraft Mobile Commander game where you manage resources to run and upgrade a flagship as well as small squads of units. Then take them into turned based battles very much like Xcom.
Hey Rhykker I wanted to tell you about that Titan Quest Handy Games anouncement. I was asked not to spoil the info when i got to know this back in 2019 so i kept my word and kept my mouth shut.However now that the game is finally out for a few days, maybe you'll make a small snippet about it? How was I suprised when Titan Quest on my phone got updated and all previously unavailable DLCs for it were present as in app purchases. Haven't purchased them yet, as I have to go and buy google's playstorecard or a paysafecard to add funds for the purchase, however, this stuff looks very promising, and suprisingly little to no coverage about the topic on the internet. Do you mind taking care of the fact that the new mobile TQ got no coverage? P.S. they even made cloud storage for savegames it seemes plus it's up to date with PC version.

It would be cool if, in Diablo 4, we can use the various Ancient statuetes spread around the world to prey to the gods of Sanctuary (first nephalem) and Lilith. And anything can be like a gamble. And to win different things like. -runes -experience -skills gifted by the gods. For example, if you prey to Lilith you can get various gift skills like (sleep paralysis - paralize an enemy in combat with terror for 2 minute / soul eater - devour the essence and life from your enemy / posses - take the controll over a demon and had him fight for you for 5 minutes) Esu can give you skills like (fireball, throw ice, thunder spear, etc) Vasily(the druid god) can give you (throw stones/ call a wolf to fight for you /summon winds) Rathma can give you (bone spear /bone armor /blood syphon /bone spikes), Bul'kathos can give you ( throw axe/ slice enemies/ behead etc.)
I had hope for Blizz, until the reveal of Immortal. From that point onwards, I'm automatically jumpy. Especially for D4, seeing as the monetization process was leaked.
The "Blizzard we used to know" was basically divided into the Blizzard that ruled over other studios with an iron fist ruling over the different teams that are the Blizzard that made the games with passion and talent. What we see publicly from the studio's PR is the former, but we sometimes get a glimpse of the latter.

I'm pretty sure you are wrong about Hearthstone. On his weekly Q&A this week Dean Ayala - lead Balance Designer of Team5 - said, that new expansion of HS will be released in March or April with no certain date yet decided on. They won't be able to announce new expansion with no idea when it's coming out and if it comes in April - it's way too early to start building the hype. On the other side, there is still one New Game Mode for Hearthstone to release in this HS year (which will rotate with next expansion), so I'm pretty sure it's gonna be it - new game mode, trying to gain same success as Battlegrounds, which are not competing with the main game for popularity of players and viewers.
There was also a Picture on Vicarious Visions website showing characters from every game they worked on, DIABLO was one of the characters and the picture is now removed!!

I always hated when my hair was at that point where it wasn't long enough to do anything with, but too short to tie up so it just sat all wavy. On point though, I hope if they are doing a D2 remaster that they actually put in the effort and make it good. I still play D2:LoD regularly, and Diablo is my favorite gaming franchise of all time, so if they mess this up like they did WC3:R I wont touch another Acti-Blizz product just out of spite alone.

I think with Overwatch 2 almost certainly not releasing this year, there will be some content releases for Overwatch despite what they had said awhile ago. I just can't see them honestly believing they are going to hold onto their playerbase if they don't.

I think it was confirmed that Diablo 4 would not be releasing this year. At least according to an article by Verge. Apparently in an earnings call they told investors not to expect Diablo 4 this year (Or Overwatch 2) So most likely it will only be one class.
I was a bit bummed hearing you talking about all the IPs that Blizzard is putting on the back burner. But honestly it's good news. Let them focus on OW2 and D4, don't sprinkle their most valuable people on many different projects. Get them together to make something more awesome than they ever did! That's the Blizzard way.

After 2 months, I just set it on the shelf and its been there for 4 years now. Maybe I should have spent a few more thousand dollars on a REAL tablet...not.
After decades of being a huge Blizzard fan, I just can't get excited for anything they are working on anymore. Just like with Bioware, most of the people that made this studio great were pushed out by a corporate culture that focuses less on what their fans want and more on what makes money in the short-term. EA and Activision have bought and destroyed so many studios and IPs, it's depressing.

On that last point you mentioned, Rhykker, about mobile being a huge industry and all... I realize I'm likely in the minority of hardcore gamers here, but I actually super enjoy mobile games. The best ones, like the best Wii or Wii U or DS games in the past, all make very smart use of their unique hardware and input method for a truly innovative experience. Or, at the very least, in recent years developers have come up with innovative new ways to control genres that originate on other platforms.
One of my favorite games on mobile actually has really fun and satisfying gameplay that isn't too dissimilar from your average Diablo. It's Nintendo/CyGames' own Dragalia Lost, and it's an isometric monster slaying dungeon crawler with missions that range from bite-sized monster encounters to HUGE 16-character raids that have really fun MMO mechanics. It has amazing character design, tons of RPG depth and team-building possibilities very similar to Build Possibilities in an ARPG.
So between Blizzard's Hearthstone and my time playing a different ARPG on the phone, I have every confidence, especially after your Alpha Impressions video, that Diablo Immortal has a very high chance of being a really, really fun game. It honestly only makes me excited for what might be possible in the future for the other franchises. StarCraft Tower Defense anyone? :P

Blizzard has like the two major RTSs titles available "in the market" and it feels like they doesn't give a s*&t about it.
Most major companies seem to believe that old-school RTS games are useless these days. I'm someone who grew up on C&C. We had NO C&C4.

Everything Rhykker said in the video is what I'm expecting, too. TBC Classic announcement + beta + release date, WoW 9.1 info dump and release date, D4 fourth class reveal + gameplay, D2 Resurrected (probably the most interesting news of the convention, since we don't know if it will be a remaster or a full blown 3D remake), Diablo Immortal release date, Overwatch 2 beta and nothing or next to nothing for Starcraft (RIP) and HotS. Now if they really wanted to go crazy and generate insane hype, D4 alpha or beta or a publicly accessible demo through b.net would get people to say this was "the best Blizzcon ever" but those are both 100% speculation.
I think the reason why the Celebration pack has "coming soon" for all Diablo items is because they are related to the new class(es) which they will reveal. Or of course could be some D2 Remaster related stuff. Just my 2 cents.
It's not something I expect by any stretch, but I'd love to see them do an updated line of tabletop games based on their various franchises someday.

I would love it if they did both unannounced hero reveals for D4, but it's unlikely. However there are some arguments for it as well as against it. Diablo 3's announcement came many years before it's release. The first reveal only had two of the five classes as opposed to three like Diablo 4. I believe that Blizzard learned a hard lesson with revealing Diablo 3 way before it eventually released and have since made efforts to not officially announce things too long before a solid release goal. The prime example here being Overwatch which was released only about a year and a half after the surprise announcement (and it had only been worked on for a relatively short time before that). Yes, they repeatedly told us that it was still early days in development and to temper our expectations at the D4 reveal, and the pandemic has probably slowed things down a bit. And yes the pace of new info has been relatively slow, but at least there is a steady pace of new info unlike other projects (OW2) and how they've done things in the past (little to nothing for months and even years and then an explosion when beta's around the corner). So I would hope that they did themselves a favor and announced the game with it much further along than they've let on, or at least with the capability of producing it at a much quicker pace than D3 was developed. I personally believe they could have announced D4 a year before they did, but they wanted a fancy cinematic and a proper demo to introduce it with, so they held back on it and tried to serve us DI to tide us over, with problematic results.
I feel like one of the next classes has to be like a ranged assassin, or a pet class like the necromancer if not then a paladin.
It could be a Barbie or Ken class character???

I'm trying to remember the last time I was enthused about anything coming out of Blizzard.
I can all but gurantee they're going to announce patch 9.1 for Shadowlands. The base patch for the expansion has been mainly completed, with most guilds clearing normal or heroic Nathria, as well as the World First on Mythic Denathrius. Not to mention the covenant campaigns being completed.
Hoping to see reveal of new D4 hero and some new in game footage. Sucks we won't see any updated playable demo for attendees to play.
Man, I missed Quakecon 2020, but I did catch some of the duels, the Doom panels, and watched some of the streamers WAN partying. It's not the same as having a convention hall packed with fans.
I think Blizzard can pull it off well, considering the main allure of Quakecon is the BYOC. I'm sure Blizz has taken the last few months to polish their presentation so they don't seem like they're overhyping the fans nor rushing their product.
A hack&slash type game set in the starcraft universe would be awesome!

Hey Rhykker I wanted to tell you about that Titan Quest Handy Games anouncement.
I was asked not to spoil the info when i got to know this back in 2019 so i kept my word and kept my mouth shut.However now that the game is finally out for a few days, maybe you'll make a small snippet about it? How was I suprised when Titan Quest on my phone got updated and all previously unavailable DLCs for it were present as in app purchases. Haven't purchased them yet, as I have to go and buy google's playstorecard or a paysafecard to add funds for the purchase, however, this stuff looks very promising, and suprisingly little to no coverage about the topic on the internet. Do you mind taking care of the fact that the new mobile TQ got no coverage?

If they stop working on Starcraft 2, then they better start working on Warcraft 4. We don't want Warcraft III: Reforged, we want something new, a competitive e-sport quality warcraft strategy game based on the latest story and units.
It would be cool if, in Diablo 4, we can use the various Ancient statuetes spread around the world to prey to the gods of Sanctuary (first nephalem) and Lilith. And anything can be like a gamble.
And to win different things like.
-runes
-experience
-skills gifted by the gods. For example, if you prey to Lilith you can get various gift skills like (sleep paralysis - paralize an enemy in combat with terror for 2 minute / soul eater - devour the essence and life from your enemy / posses - take the controll over a demon and had him fight for you for 5 minutes) Esu can give you skills like (fireball, throw ice, thunder spear, etc)
Vasily(the druid god) can give you (throw stones/ call a wolf to fight for you /summon winds)
Rathma can give you (bone spear /bone armor /blood syphon /bone spikes), Bul'kathos can give you ( throw axe/ slice enemies/ behead etc.)

It is basically just Activision wearing the remains of Blizzard as a meat suit, for PR reasons.
I had hope for Blizz, until the reveal of Immortal. From that point onwards, I'm automatically jumpy. Especially for D4, seeing as the monetization process was leaked.
The "Blizzard we used to know" was basically divided into the Blizzard that ruled over other studios with an iron fist ruling over the different teams that are the Blizzard that made the games with passion and talent.
What we see publicly from the studio's PR is the former, but we sometimes get a glimpse of the latter.

I'm pretty sure you are wrong about Hearthstone. On his weekly Q&A this week Dean Ayala - lead Balance Designer of Team5 - said, that new expansion of HS will be released in March or April with no certain date yet decided on. They won't be able to announce new expansion with no idea when it's coming out and if it comes in April - it's way too early to start building the hype. On the other side, there is still one New Game Mode for Hearthstone to release in this HS year (which will rotate with next expansion), so I'm pretty sure it's gonna be it - new game mode, trying to gain same success as Battlegrounds, which are not competing with the main game for popularity of players and viewers.
As far as D4 goes I just hope they don't try to make it too much like POE

I always hated when my hair was at that point where it wasn't long enough to do anything with, but too short to tie up so it just sat all wavy. On point though, I hope if they are doing a D2 remaster that they actually put in the effort and make it good. I still play D2:LoD regularly, and Diablo is my favorite gaming franchise of all time, so if they mess this up like they did WC3:R I wont touch another Acti-Blizz product just out of spite alone.

I think with Overwatch 2 almost certainly not releasing this year, there will be some content releases for Overwatch despite what they had said awhile ago. I just can't see them honestly believing they are going to hold onto their playerbase if they don't.

I think it was confirmed that Diablo 4 would not be releasing this year. At least according to an article by Verge. Apparently in an earnings call they told investors not to expect Diablo 4 this year (Or Overwatch 2) So most likely it will only be one class.

I was a bit bummed hearing you talking about all the IPs that Blizzard is putting on the back burner. But honestly it's good news. Let them focus on OW2 and D4, don't sprinkle their most valuable people on many different projects. Get them together to make something more awesome than they ever did! That's the Blizzard way.
