I do mine by frying some bacon In the pot first. Then adding the onions and cooking those for a bit. Then broth, smoked turkey legs or necks, salt, pepper, garlic powder, mustard powder, paprika, red pepper flakes, franks red hot, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, and brown sugar. We not too far off so I’m gonna have to give this recipe a try and taste the difference.
I have to make dinner for our fire house on Thursday night for 20 people. I'm doing a Cajun spice fried chicken, baked mac and cheese, and adding this to the menu! Thanks. I'll be checking out that cookbook!
Collards taste good with the stems in them, just roll and cut into bite sized pieces. Unsure why so many people eliminate the stems it’s part of the greens , yes they have a bitter taste but that’s why I add a little sugar. We usually clean the leaves before cutting them also. It’s all about how you prepare and what you add in for flavor ( smoked Turkey wings, smoked turkey neck, beef neck bones or ham hocks ect). Need that glorious pot liquor! 😃🙌🏾If someone is a vegan/vegetarian can sauté with onions, peppers , garlic, season to taste still delicious! 🤤 😊
I've had a hard time finding or making Greens the way my Dad did. He was a great cook from Macon, Ga! I did this recipe for Thanksgiving and everyone was highly impressed. I used some Smoked Turkey Tails and the only thing I did different was caramalized the onions and garlic, before I added it to the broth, to get them a lil sweeter. But they were soooo good! Thank you Sir! Liked and Subscribed!
Well done! 👍🏼 I love seeing different folks versions of southern classics like this. The spoon full of “pot linker” had my mouth watering. Dreaming of having some sweet cornbread to sop it up. 🥬🥘😋
I've always wanted to learn how to make collard greens and your comment made me want to try this recipe... I'm up in Massachusetts and no matter where I go for bbq, I always get collard greens for a side... Thank you! 💙✌️
I don't put sugar in my greens. Instead, I use Kale & Collards together. I also like to use smoked turkey butts. Thanks for the suggestion of the salt free Tony Cs. I'll have to try that as I typically use Lawry's season salt.
I know king-but I buy prefer tha’ bags. You right they full of ‘knuckles and stems’ but the Collard bunches are so dang sparse now and STILL cost a ‘grip’ for so little. I get tha’ giant bags $5.99 here and I turn on me a good t.v watch and pick em’ out. I’m still left with a good amount. You seem to get more Mustards in tha’ bunches though so I DO buy about 3 of those to add to my Collards as I don’t prefer strait Collards. No sugar but I do use a tsp. of baking soda. My Alabama hailing daddy (RIP) taught me that. His greens (and he did used strait Collards) were tha’ stuff dreams are made of. Legendary. He didn’t tell my momma that secret till years later. Yours look 🔥. I’m 57 so I been around a few stoves and kitchens so imma great cook an baker. Got a lotta cookbooks but Immo get yours. Another one can’t hurt-you know…see what’s crackin’ in it. 😊 You know. Support my young brother. GOD Bless your business endeavor and talent.
Wow, first recipe for Collards that appears simple and has a reasonable number of ingredients. Thanks . Anyone tell you that you look like the Kanye guy or whatever is his new name? Now he is a good looking fellow ( and so are you), so don’t be offended.
Imma try the sugar in my greens, never did that. I like the green taste but my pepper vinegar brings some sweetness anyway. I'm throwing this down tonight!
Does it have to be turkey? Or can it be another smoked meat like smoked sauce, smoked brisket, or smoked ham? I've never had collard greens before tbh and I want to make it but we don't really have smoked turkey neck, legs, or anything around here really
The way I make my collar greens I put ham, hocks, brown sugar, and pineapple juice, some onions and some orange Peels, I like my collar greens to be sweet than 😊savory.
OK I'm one of those older southern ladies with dimples on my arms - got to tell you this recipe is SPOT ON -- GOOD EATING

Outstanding recipe
I sometimes do a combination of mustard greens with my collards. Smoked Turkey neck bones cooked until the meat falls off by itself.
Looks very good...
Thanks for making it easy
Very good looking greens 🥬 ❤
Do you add the 4th cup of veg oil with the chicken stock ?
Very close to how I make them. Never added brown sugar before though, I’ll give it a try. I always add Jalapeños when I add the onion though
I know king-but I buy prefer tha’ bags.

Vinegar and boiling it does the trick

He cooked 3 bunches...from the look of the pot it looks for 2 people...i would double that for 4 ppl...6 bunches.

lord have mercy, you fine AND you can cook? 😍
Man, Greens look a lil light skinned, where you get them things from?… the moon😂😂
No sugar. I chop up the stems n put them in on their own first to cook a while then add the rest of the greens.
Turkey wangs yeah
No sugar for me. What's the vegetable oil for that you listed in ingredients?
Vegetable oil is more optional. Oftentimes ppl use a smidge of oil or butter when cooking the greens.
wash then cut~ and NO sugar
❤
Oh naw we eat the stems
I be thinking the nutrients 🤣is what I need and "boil" em down until it gets really soft
Yes indeed, love to chop down on a bowl with a few stems in it, solo flavorful and so good
