Firewall has plot armour in the OCG due to the anime creators having a contract with Konami. The TCG on the other hand has a free leash for some reason.
I remember someone mentioning out of 70 episodes firewall only appeared 3 times. Which is why I’m so skeptical about it being an Ace card. But people have associated it as an Ace card regardless that’s given plot armor cause it’s the protags card.

Firewall being limited to one the first time around was proof that Konami believed in its plot armor at the time. If its anime relevance hadn't existed back then, it would have been Forbidden the minute it was causing problems. However, it's pretty clear by now that the FTK issue was so massive that no amount of plot armor could save Firewall.
Pot of Greed should not come back. Sky Strikers having a similar card does not excuse a fucking free +1 for everything else. If anything, you just make Sky Strikers and the other top decks better. smh

The main thing that saved it was the anime, but the backlash from the community on the dumb FTKs forced Konami to ban this card. Konami won't ban a protags ace. Pretty much they didn't for most of the banlist till it got to the point where new ftks emerged. Also ocg didn't ban firewall yet and I doubt tcg almost the anime has no influnece as much as in ocg. And anime is also marketing so in a way not banning the mascot does make sense. Either way it's banned now but that won't solve the banlist because people will rinse and repeat the same thing when new broken cards come out.
Agree, i dunno how they are gping to market firewalls "other forms" now, coz the actual cards is banned. Prob TCG wont matter much unless they do ban firewall in OCG too.
it's blatantly not the main monster, it's spots in the anime openings & in a few key episodes are likely all that kept it safe this long, even if not the main it's still getting value from the anime association

You know they are going to errata Firewall and bring it back in a couple of ban list with a HOPT or with a restriction of what materials you need to summon it with.
My immediate prediction is limiting you to only summoning Cyberse monsters for the rest of the turn OR, if they really want to piss everyone off, requiring Cyberse monsters for its Link Summon.

Seriously, Konami kind of have PTSD from the pepe thing so things might go different for the cyberse cards..)

The plot armor is real. Firewall was created by anime writers and they decide the card's destiny IRL. It must take Konami a lot of negotiations,from begging to bowing,humiliating themselves,to get the writers'permission to limit it at first,then ban it today.

It absolutely had anime plot armor, that's what stopped it from being banned for the entire year, although in reality it should never have been made. Japan hasn't even banned it yet, and I will assume, it will take a lot of fighting with Shueisha to do it.

i stopped playing after they banned level eater. i get that it would’ve been absolute bs for most top tier decks, but i wanted to play quasar and synchro turbo decks and now it’s just borderline impossible
After being cucked by decode talker as protagonist's ace monster status and non-existent screentime in the anime, dodges a few banlist, foolishly thinking it got plot armor, and finally, it got hit by the banhammer. Being Firewall is suffering.
Nice hits it feels more like an emergency but with Firewall gone, it tidies up to a not so bad format, before the FTK I didn't think this game was that bad. Surprised the next one is set for no sooner than January the 25th, maybe they will do a more intense one then, as savage strike will be on the horizon, they can look more into the lesser issues now that firewall is gone. I'm happy with this, summon sorc is still a thing, but people in the EU territories haven't even got it yet.
Actually, the anime plot armor argument is out the window for a while. It hasn't been summoned in the anime for months and was effectively replaced by several other aces that aren't it. Konami has an official policy to not show banned cards in the show, which was why it took years and was a big deal back in the GX era when they showed BLS for the first time.
There are some little kids that will be dissapointed that a card that was so cool and was the ace card of a main protagonist at a point in time got banned.
1:20 I actually quit playing back when the Ether and Pantheism got on the banlist. It was the only deck of mine that was somewhat competitive, because it was relatively cheap. Since then I'm just spectating how the game develops.
anime plot armor still exists cuz ocg. firewall’s problem was that it made/makes the game unfun both competitively and casually. most people who play with the ban list either play online (and are usually forced to use it because those are where people play at) or practice for locals irl. still knowing that konami can balance their game helps for future card releases.

i stopped playing after they banned level eater. i get that it would’ve been absolute bs for most top tier decks, but i wanted to play quasar and synchro turbo decks and now it’s just borderline impossible

Nice hits it feels more like an emergency but with Firewall gone, it tidies up to a not so bad format, before the FTK I didn't think this game was that bad. Surprised the next one is set for no sooner than January the 25th, maybe they will do a more intense one then, as savage strike will be on the horizon, they can look more into the lesser issues now that firewall is gone. I'm happy with this, summon sorc is still a thing, but people in the EU territories haven't even got it yet.
Actually, the anime plot armor argument is out the window for a while. It hasn't been summoned in the anime for months and was effectively replaced by several other aces that aren't it. Konami has an official policy to not show banned cards in the show, which was why it took years and was a big deal back in the GX era when they showed BLS for the first time.
Konami on topic that the anime the ace monster won't be banned: "Please, y'all tripping!"

There are some little kids that will be dissapointed that a card that was so cool and was the ace card of a main protagonist at a point in time got banned.

anime plot armor still exists cuz ocg. firewall’s problem was that it made/makes the game unfun both competitively and casually. most people who play with the ban list either play online (and are usually forced to use it because those are where people play at) or practice for locals irl. still knowing that konami can balance their game helps for future card releases.
im happy that i look stupid. konami proved me wrong by actually hitting the problem. i mean, its not unrealistic for them to ban all the burn cards. they banned a assault core bc it loops with fire wall.
