- Star Wars: The Old Republic has just released Patch 7.0, Legacy of the Sith, bringing massive changes and community-demanded features to the game at last. From new story content for max level players, to new characters being able to choose any combat style they wish when creating a character, SWTOR is in a grand place for both veteran and new players alike.
Seeing as I'm a huge fan of MMOs, as well as Star Wars, and being that the Darth Malgus cinematic was amazing, I decided to give The Old Republic another shot over on Twitch. My goal was to give the game a fair chance, let myself really try to enjoy it, and to immerse myself in the world yet again after all these years. This is my story. The story of a lone bounty hunter in a galaxy far far away...

Anyone here still playing or interested in SWTOR? Any tips for a new-ish player?
Bro it's so awesome to see you playin swtor I've been playin for a while and really the only tip I can give is that the sith inquisitors story line is op
So glad to see you playing one of my favorite MMOs. :D I've practically been playing non-stop since 2013. The biggest tip I can give: Get a max level Legacy ASAP. The Legacy perks are HUGE. Such as mounting while moving, extra XP, companion unlocks, portable mailboxes, and so much more. Don't worry about credits, it will roll in very quickly. (By the way, 5 billion credits is considered poor in today's age, but you gotta start somewhere).
Great to see you playing swtor! The pve in this game is almost entirely based on group pulls rather than singles. Sniper/Gunslingers are the kings of aoe just with their basic spammable aoe ability (even more so if you go into the aoe spec), so stay with your slinger (snipers > all). The general consensus is that Imperial Agent is the best storyline, with 4 possible endings! They also have the coolest looking ships! Kira Carsen (Jedi Knight) is the best romance. Make at least 6 toons so you can cover all of the crafting skills and be entirely self sufficient. Buying augments/kits and mats off the gtn gets expensive, fast. I find playing dark side for the republic to be the most fun. NPC's are either horrified or outraged by your actions. Being light side in the empire, they think you are either weak or foolish. Empire gets the best capital ships and outfits. Star Forge server FTW! It's funny to hear you complain about this game looking cartoonish. I left wow for swtor when it launched and one of my main reasons for doing so was because the models in wow looked too cartoonish. The way they are stylized and lit/shaded makes them look drawn rather than real (at least during vanilla wotlk). I'd love to see some swtor machinima! Keep playing!
My best tip for new players? When lvling a character open your map and turn on exploration mission, this will give you access to many many more mission on each planet. Then just sit back, relax and take your time 😁.
Enjoy the story, i know you said pvp wasnt balanced, but i feel it's in a great spot right now, theres strong classes like always, but if you're good at pvp you'll beat any class.
Man, playing as a Sith Warrior and butchering every single innocent you come across in the story was the best feeling in this game. I remember I was doing quests for these Republic npc's and they were sending me to a lot of fetch quests so I can take their commander's amulet. Then I remembered I was a goddamn Sith lord and I butchered every single one of those losers and completed my quest.
If you are a Solo player or only interested in some Star Wars stories and roleplay, play this game.

@@theblueneko677 I mean if you don't care about endgame stuff and just want to see the class and expansion stories, yes. I didn't care about any dungeons, raids, pvp and stuff, I just played it for the story.
I prefer to play my sith as someone who doesn't kill innocent bystanders if it's at all practical to avoid. she saved the republic soldiers to use them as pawns against the rival sith lord, then let them go home after as they posed no threat to her and their story would inspire some confusion within the republic.
She believes strongly that the dark side is best mastered with all passions, not just the ones known as "negative" but all of them at once, and that killing for the sake of killing serves no purpose, killing should be done in the pursuit of greater power and elimination of threats.
It's definitely still worth playing, i took it up after a long and abusive relationship with wow last year and honestly, I'd never change the decision.

If you're new player, SWTOR has a lot to offer. If you're vet... not so much. Being a new player in this game and if you're interested in the SW lore, it's the game for you. It's one of the best to play, and make sure to sub in order to get all xpacs. The story for some classes is mindblowing, and I even consider them the best stories told by a game. The old republic era is the best SW era.
If you are a lore fan, you are going to have so much fun - there is tons of lore to collect and I believe there are even achievements for it.

I’ve been playing it lately and I think it’s really fun, & being a huge Star Wars fan makes it even more enjoyable tbh.
If you play as a force user do you have to pick between Jedi and Sith or can you go the Grey route?
I keep going back time and time again, no matter how long I've been gone. I always love the huge stories, characters and voice acting in this game. And let's face it, It's Star Wars. Who doesn't like wielding lightsabers!?
Literally the best thing to come out of this game is being able to play a diplomatic/kind Sith and seeing Jedi absolutely lose their shit , cause they can't fathom the idea that not all Dark Side users are psychos
Hell, it even leads to you exposing multiple Jedi as hypocrites, either being naturally violent, pridefull and/or paranoid
Mace windu was able to use both sides of the force for good 🤷♂️
It’s sad how much blizzard alienated it’s fan base. These other developers have recognized it, and when a ex WoW influencer comes on over, they welcome them with open arms
well ironicly they didnt they did do that in 6.0 and then pulled a blizzard in new expanation

7.0 was badly recieved by lots of people, but not as many as it may seem, tons of people i know love it, and those are the people that don't usually visit the subreddits to talk about it, for whoever is wanting to try this game or comeback, it's in a great place right now.

Love this game so much, quit WoW after 14 years and came to this. The story lines are so good. Leveling characters still, after 21 characters, is still fun for me

Its actually a pretty hot release once things start to open up and you get your own ship and get to travel to other planets and such it can be a bit overwhelming but it is worth sticking with
Did not expect a Swtor video from you. Big ass Swtor fan myself its really good good filling in the gaps of somthing to play Star Wars wise in between Star Wars releases.
I just started playing three days ago and am having a blast! I kept putting it off for years because I'm not a huge Star Wars fan (I've seen nearly all the SW films/shows and only really enjoyed Episode III and The Mandalorian), but the story quality in SWTOR is so good that I'm now absolutely hooked into the Old Republic universe. Also love the class origins and combat styles :D
I wish Star Wars Galaxies was refreshed and brought back out like it was almost 20 years ago. That was a fun and immersive Star Wars game. This game is still fun on some level but lacks content to keep you wanting to play. I don't like the fact that I have to have a companion to keep alive during most of the game play. The story is also very fast to get through.

@@bobbybologna3029 I don’t consider EMU legit. It’s sponsored by fans not by SOE or Disney. Although I’ve thought about playing the EMU, I’ve heard most of the people who do play just complain about the good ole days. I personally would like to see it refreshed with current ray graphics and same game play as the original and Jump to Light Speed along with atmosphere flight.

Timing! I actually started replaying KOTOR1 the other day with graphic revamp mods because man that game is so good. Lowkey started wondering if I should finally give TOR a try. Then figured it was old and nobody playing it anymore. So hearing that TOR is in fact still alive AND still teeming with roleplayers really made me excited! I'm definitely going to give this a shot.
This is basically KOTOR 3 / Mass Effect with MMO chat and group activities.
Not a big fan of the current UI. Kinda wish there was an option to have a pre-LotS UI.
Not sure what you refer to, it seems like the same it's ever been? There's an in-game interface editor to change things around, but I've also not touched the game much over the years. What new UI do you refer to?

I love Bounty Hunters and Sith Inquisitors the most when it comes to playing SWTOR. I don’t know why but those two classes in particular make me feel like a badass

I almost got Legend title on SWTOR before I quit. It was fun and classes felt really good. Well most of them. The PVP was so fucking laggy in big battles though, which was a major turnoff. When there wasn't lag the PVP was pretty fun. Also, a lot of the Xpacs were bafflingly bad, technically and story-wise. Class stories and most base game stuff was pretty awesome. Its a mixed bag, but it seems like there have been some improvements and new additions. Just stay away from that dang old Cartel Market.
Without Cartel market this game would have died years ago.
I just got back after like a 7 to 10 year break and OMG I am just having a blast! Granted the first week I was just so lost. Starting a new character really helped me remember a lot too. And yeah I'm an ESO nerd too. Anyways great video and thanks!

As a raider, I have to say we don't get a lot of notice in this game. Coming into it from WoW where we get a new raid every patch, here we get 1 per expansion, maybe 1 or 2 more if we're lucky. No shade intended at the dev team here, they obviously prioritise the story over raids more than WoW does and it shows, the story is fucking excellent, if anything I'm throwing shade at whatever EA exec is deciding how much budget to give the SWTOR team for not giving them more. I'd be really excited to see the heights they can take this game to if they had access to a budget more in line with WoW or FF14.
Dungeons however, or Flashpoints as they're called here, we get plenty of those, and most of them are brilliant quality. The new one that came out with the 7.0 release has some teething issues in regards to performance but I'm expecting them to get ironed out as bug fix patches get released, but most of the flashpoints are stable, fun, and get a bit more mechanically interesting as you go up in difficulty and get to the later flashies, a lot of bosses in the early ones you can get by treating it like a tank n' spank but the further along you go the harder it is to do that.
I'd definitely recommend giving the game a go to endgame PvE players of other MMOs, but make sure you temper your expectations, remember the budget is lower than what you might be used to, and enjoy the ride for what it is. The content that's there is a lot of fun, the only real issue with it is the speed that more content gets released at.
@Seth In a Mug You can get to the end of the base game and the first two expansions without subscribing, but they do slow down your XP gain somewhat after level 20, and then once you get to the end of Shadow of Revan you'll need to pay up if you wanna go into the rest of the expansions.
HOWEVER, they've got this pretty cool thing called preferred status, which means as long as you've subbed for any amount of time, you get the XP slowdown removed and access to the remaining expansions, meaning if you can pay like 30 bucks for the 2 month non recurring sub and you'll have all that content ready to go.
Preferred has it's limitations though. You won't be able to do raids and there's a 1 million credit limit on your account. To get around the limit I'd really recommend keeping your credits in your legacy bank. EA have a "free to play option" FAQ that goes into more detail that you should be able to find pretty easily by googling swtor preferred status.

I just got back into the game a few days ago after 8 years absence. It's incredible!!!
As a player since pre-release (on and off, of course) I think the best experience with this game comes when you FIRST and foremost try it in the mindset that it's a single player RPG game ala Mass Effect and KOTOR. The additional sprinkling of MMO in there (dromund kaas Barrens-eque chat, flashpoint dungeons, and playing some huttball and raging at how busted juggernauts are) is just the extra icing on your story cake.
I recently went back to this game as I’m curious about the class stories. Now, I’ve ended up leveling crafting and doing the world story arcs and a ton of other things. It’s a good game.

I've been playing for years over years.
Never getting bored, and this game has to much to offer.
I played this before 7.0 and completed my way up to my class story arc 3 ending of Sith Inquisitor. I would say the story is great. The best thing about the game. Would recommend it as an RPG but I didnt really like the feel of the combat, it didn't feel good? Like I knew I was doing damage but didnt feel like it? and some abilities just didnt feel impactful. I also felt the quests were just so boring at times. There was little to no variety outside of kill x enemies, talk to x person, collect x item. which was me just running up and killing that many enemies until it was done. I didnt feel very engaged with the gameplay. I did it all solo as there was very little people around at the time but I did like being able to do dungeons (flash points) solo. I will probably try it again but with how things are now.
Very true. I did get to lvl 70 or 80, can't remember what the cap was. But I did not like the flashpoints and raids, just didn't feel the same as other MMOs. Your right about
the skills, we get scaled as we level, so whether your fighting lvl 10 enemies or 60, your damage is still impactful, but the hp of the mobs is still the same, slowly killing them.
Granted, over the game you gain new skills and set bonuses, but its still the same, only now you kill stuff faster. I will probably not play it again, as it was rather boring.
The first time I played it, I loved it because I never played an MMO with such a nice storyline, and got invested in it, as well as being able to marry some NPC lol. But starting
new chars, it just wasn't interesting anymore. Incredible game story wise, but combat and dungeon are rather lacking, especially because every scales with you. Feels
like ESO, but ESO scaling is so much worse.
You play these Bioware games for the Story. IF the story you are not into, youre not gonna like this game period. The game is literally 90% story/cutscenes.
I am out of my mind with excitement at this renaissance of nixxiom content on youtube! Cant wait to see more. Any chance youll cover Ascenion WoW? Maybe do a nightmare run on the seasonal server for the draft? :D

I did not expect this video. But I have to say that they made changes in swtor that made me enjoy it's gameplay a lot more. Changes were kind of weird to adjust, but pvp is supposedly better. But my favorite feature by far is the loadouts. Finally I don't have to make a character for every spec.
As someone who has also been in the same boat, I've come to appreciate SWTOR more. I keep returning no matter how things get and still find some way to have a good time. I love the class stories and the new dual-class system. I just wish there was alot more endgame story content, the "expansions" definitely feel more like an update, but I'm glad they're free. I would recommend subscribing at least once, just so you can unlock all the story content and can do much more, and if you don't like it, well, it was only 15 dollars!

@@A_Black_Sheep94 You have to pick either Jedi or Sith, however story wise you can be a Sith and make Light-Side choices, and vice versa. There is also the ability to play a Sith Class on the Jedi (Republic) side or the inverse, but only after you each the alignment level 5 of either Light/Dark.
After I left from playing WOW went to play this game to be honest I love it. The graphics isn't the best thing in the world but it got a great story line for all of the classes (well at least to the ones I played so far) and not to mention the decision making in this game.

After seeing this video and debating on checking it out with this new update, I think I'm gonna check it out again. Like you I started around launch and liked it but not enough to keep it up, especially since ESO came out some time afterwards. Now I'm thinking of starting over, thanks to this mixed combat style update that I was hoping for at launch.

Returned after 5 years and loving it.
The unique character driven story modes are always fantastic, something wow never has, the flash points are really fun as are the other modes.
Do people do Flashpoints while leveling now? When I left it was only endgame ones that got qued for.

I was looking for another MMORPG to try after I had started playing FFXIV. And I had found SWTOR and I loved it. Its so much fun and I love playing as a Sith Lord, even before the latest patch it was still so much fun and now I can switch from being a Marauder to a Sorcerer? Not only that but I could learn a Jedi fighting style as a Sith???? What?!?!?! I had already maxed out my character at 75 before the latest patch and I am looking forward to hitting 80. Really glad to see you enjoying the game Nixxiom, Its so much fun.

I'm halfway through installing SWTOR (after 4-5 years away) and I decide to look at some youtube videos. Yours was first when I googled Swtor and I really hope it is as good as I remember.
this game comes down to what are you looking for. awhile back i found i wanted to main vanguard. its who i am. but i wanted to be imperial so i kept playing the on and off attitude. then 7.0 came out. ive had so much fun in game since launch. but now i can REALLY have fun
Loved the game years back as my Sith Warrior (Juggernaut) still has special place in my heart ♥
(Also only game where I actually enjoyed the PVP :D )
Aaahhhh SWTOR... that's awesome, you are playing.
It's been a little bit but Starfighter PVP was cool, wish you could bring your characters ship but oh well. Couple tips, check the guides on ship components that match how you like to play because leveling those to max takes time, also every team needs one or two scouts with scanners so you can detect enemy ships, it's a boring job but absolutely essential, when you get a good team sensor jammers are just as good but kinda hard to coordinate in public matches.
I've definitely missed this game, it's been a long time since I touched my bounty hunter and inquisitor. I think it's about time I check and see how they're doing..
I've been the same, gone back to playing SWTOR like 5 times since it's launch. Last I played was in..2019 I think? I didn't play for long then either, I generally just see what's new and leave lol.
The class changes looked awesome though, I'd love to check that out and learn more. My brother in law has been telling me the new campaign is amazing and worth playing it again, but he's the kind of guy who'd spend 60 dollars on the expansion even if it was complete trash because it added 2 hours of interesting lore. He also likes to play solo, which is fine, but when I play an MMO, I prefer to play in groups if at all possible. Thanks for the video, looks like I'll be redownloading this..again.

i played this game back in the day as a imperial sniper, i got into alot of rp and even made my own guild of sith, we would meet on korriban and do lore accurate rituals and shit those were some awesome times, im gonna go download it now it personally never made sense to me why every bounty hunter was a boba fett wannabe when we know they are assorted guns for hire i love this change
wow my highpoint with the game was in 2016 I played then again with a friend 2 years back and due to this video Im installing it again i loved the game but I only played the inquisitor story through and ervery other story from level 5 to 30 or something in between.
Wow the fact that they showed up and starting giving out codes. They have my loyalty from this point forward. Picked the game back up 4 days ago after yearssss. Now I will ride until it dies.
Pretty much played SWTOR every day from realease up to and included shadow of revan. The Revan raid is still one of my favorites, along with scum and villany. Was not really a fan of Empire and Throne expansions...but started playing again in Onslaught, that expansion was awsome! Maybe time to pick up the game again since I have not played it for a year or so I think.
Literally just got my sub through steam issues worked out, figured 15 for a month to see what everything’s ab is chill since it comes with a 70 boost

The storytelling is one of the Best in MMO
I max capped an Imperial sniper at launch, also a Sith Warrior after that. Then I just kind of put down the game for about 10 years or so and stuck with playing Warcraft until I took a break from both for a couple of years. I subbed for a few months in 2019. Then I decided I would just wait until it got better support from BioWare and EA. The way it's described in this video makes me a bit more excited about it than I had in a while. I however, still have a lot of reservations about it.
Been playing for 7 years, keep coming back over and over after trying some other MMO. Bioware story dynamics just makes me happy. But Imperial faction has best stories still. :)

PvP on launch.. Oh man.. I remember on my server, my buddy and I knew all the big pvp names, and Pubs would ALWAYS win. We RARELY got the weekly PVP mission completed, because it was wins only. And it was an insane struggle to even get the daily done LOL. Good times.
Just reinstalled today after playing from day 1 and for a couple of years after that. Graphics were criticised at the time, especially given the game's huge budget, but after 11 years their quirky style aged super well in its simplicity.
They have hands down the BEST storytelling in MMOs.

They have constantly reused old content making farm heroics that have been in the game since launch, Galactic Starfighter, and the exact same operations tuned to a point the average player struggles so much for pugging all to upgrade gear, all these things we have had to do for literal years now. It is just repetitive and let's not even mention the bugs it just feels like an incomplete expansion, so, for now, we have to wait for 7.1 for new content. It's just sad tbh I love this game but they do not care about their current customers only new ones and they prove that time and time again.
