I know this is probably a long shot, but could we maybe get an update in like 6 months to a year regarding if everything worked as intended? Because I think many people will use these as a guide (or at least what brands to buy for some applications).
Its a great idea and free for LTT to do, and they can give Intel more worth of their sponsorship.
No, these videos are not content they are advertisements for intel and intel won't pay for a follow up, especially if the follow up is that they swapped over to running an AMD cpu. Losing the revenue stream that running intel ads brings in is too risky for such a thing.
@@benfubbs2432 who says they swap to AMD? Lol I personally prefer Intel because Ryzen has a well known heating issue and my colleagues who work in repair (I'm a programmer, I don't know a lot on hardware) all say they have more problems with amd than Intel... So it's performance vs endurance and the performance isn't even that far off
@@benfubbs2432 Considering most of the people getting upgrades aren't that tech savy, I don't think anyone will swap out a MB and CPU. Also saying Intel will stop paying if one of his employees swapped a cpu is kinda dumb.
I think for a lot of people the power supplies were completely inadequate and they wound up replacing them
Technically the office borrowed Brandon’s camera lenses in the early days so it’s only fair that Brandon gets to borrow a WiFi router from the office.
and the TV, and the mat prototype, and the ifix it kits
@@frank8william and any other things they didn't find because brandon forgot he even took them
I love how they passed from Brandon having to lend his lenses to Linus buying a lot of top of the line ultra professional equipment for him to play with
@@si2foo it's not stealing if you forget when you even took it.
@RogerWilco99 You forgot to mention Edzel, he was also before Brandon
I love how this is one of the few times where Linus pretty quickly backed off about stolen stuff from the office and even helped fix the CPU/Mobo kerfuffle, and well deservedly tbh. Brandon is probably one of the biggest contributors to the channel's growth by letting them use his professional quality lenses before they were able to afford them, love to see him getting treated well as a result!
How else would he and the other employees be treated? Should they have been treated like the Ellen Degeneres staff? And also, I thought that the entire premise of this Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade was to show case the new line of products that they have?
Don't think he cares as long as they are taking things to sell and if he asks for something back they take it back lol like I mean if he sends a email saying I need this robot vacuum back it comes back 🤣
I really respect that Linus, possibly from being a family man himself, evidently allows some degree of flexible working for his employees. It's important that people can enjoy their time with their loved ones.
I'll never understand why people say Ikea instructions suck, they're like the most simple instructions ever lol
Because people are dumb.
I have never had issues assembling ikea furniture. Have assembled dozens of pieces. It's not hard or confusing.
they didnt build legos growing up
@@omfgblondie it's called low iq lol
Being the most simple instructions ever is the point. I don't get it either. They have it down to a science at this point, as they should have after 70+ years of doing things this way. If there was a way to make them simpler - they would. But they've nailed the formula a long time ago.
Then again, I only hear people say that jokingly. I never meet anyone who actually has a problem following them. It's like a meme or something. Had this been a real issue (people not understanding the instructions) they would have done something about it. Like their concept is to have simple instructions so you possibly can't mess anything up.
Linus: What is it about our OG employees thinking they're entitled to our prototypes?
Brandon: You remember that time we used my own lenses for the company? :P
XD
When does he say this?
Edit: spelling correction

I hoped someone would say it but that was damn fast lol.
I'm starting to think "Intel Tech Upgrade" project was started because Linus wanted to get back all the stolen items from team members 🤣
Reverse Robbery
The smirk Linus makes when he nostalgically remembers how humble LMG started the dream when he hears about the lenses. Man, no wonder he is so passionate about what he does and why he treats his employees as he does.
I just love how logistics is this mystical force that keeps every bit of knowledge about office items, but they also just help with the most menial tasks
I mean, that is essentially what the word "logistics" means.
The art of getting things to the right places, and getting things done. Or, more simply, "the pragmatic art of making things happen".
So, like, you love them for basically doing what their job description demands of them. But, hey, that's a reason to love someone, I guess.
Logistics is often underestimated. They always get shit done!
They are the glue that keeps it all together. The master of most and the jack of none.
@@jurriaandejongh8677 Correct, often underestimated. But boy do you hear the kicking and screaming the second logistics does not perform lol.

When you see employees for a company having children, pets and taking care of their loved ones it usually means that they have a great boss who pays them well, they love their jobs and feel confident that they are not going to lose it for some stupid reason. LMG seems to be a great place to work and Linus has to be one the best human beings you can work for!
Whenever I see ignorant comments like this, it's a good reminder to all, especially me, that there's a lot of 13-year-olds watching Linus 🤦♂
@@davidanderson4727 you're so cool and cynical. No one is actually a good person no matter how happy their employees are.

Honestly Linus has to be one of the best bosses ever, spends time with his employees even if its just for videos, has a great personality, has seemingly great time management. I've been watching linus tech tips for years and he has only gotten better even with his family growing over the years. An exceptional person that deserves all the opportunities his employees and himself created!! Much love over here for you and wishing you continued success!
It says something when so many of the original members are still around. I love those bits. This is the best series hands down. Can't wait for AMD to sponsor one series.
This is by far one of my favorite LTT series. Not only do we get to see a fun interaction between the Linus and the office, but many of these projects tackle "real" tech upgrades that apply to many viewers.
It's really cool seeing how distinct and unique each upgrade is because everyone has such different priorities (aside from a nice desktop).
@@SpaceTiger9 - That shouldnt be surprising or unnatural for you at all. 😅
Did you think you can only play games with a PC before you watched LTT's intel extreme tech upgrades? 🤭
I second this!
100% my fav as well. Gets my creative and tech wheels turning.
Maybe if everyone has had an upgrade LTT could do a fan edition spin off
Brandon is truly the most expensive employee Linus has. All those equipment and now going over budget lol.
he's getting compensated for the rent of the lenses.
Brandon is also the one putting LTT on the map (videographic) whise.
Yah, but it also one of the dudes that made things possible, the OG's
Brandon is one of the first people on the team, he deserves it lol
@agapp11able David also went over budget. But in that case, we know thanks to Linus that David spent some of his own money for the upgrade.
Oh man, that setup in the end looks soooo satisfying, I mean I am a gamer but I also am an engineer and between two worlds the common thing is usually how clean and subtle everything is ! :D great video once again :D thank you LTT
I just really love watching this series. I find it eminently entertaining and it brings me joy.
Intel is basically paying LTT staff to let Linus into their homes and roast them.
Money well spent for our entertainment.
I love how they address "the baby" as if it's just a random object in the room making noise.
in the context of video it is, lol :) it wouldn't make sense to address him by his name
@@sam.avtaev Probably a privacy thing as well.
@@MaxFPSGamer 100% a privacy thing. Imagine if we all knew your son's name was Mike.
Its for privacy. Linus calls his children "boy" and "girl" in videos too if you've noticed!
@@JasonEllins To be honest my comment wasn't about them calling the baby a "baby". But them addressing the baby as if it's something everyone has lying around in their house making random noises.
I love how the entire room looks!
Out of any video I have ever watched on YT, this is the setup I would want as my office.
Except for the mousepad, of course.
@SAKURA wat
The long awaited state-of-the-art Linus Tech Tips Screwdriver: “it’s better because it doesn’t shake all the time”
Love the personal relationship that Linus has with all of his employees. Linus seems like a good boss and genuinely a nice guy. And he seem to take care of the people who have helped him succeed in his business.
yeah it seems like its a case of do your job, fess up and fix mistakes and Yvonne/Linus will do right by you. If only most companies worked like that, the jobs I had on the tech side admitted that they worked to piss off employees to get them to work harder and prove management wrong(it was public sales for a decently big name)
this actually feels like the most modest extreme upgrade we've had. Just the one area, an i5 CPU and 3060ti, simple setup that doesn't scream an aesthetic like Gaming or All-White.
Think the monitor is pretty expensive:)
Yeah he blows the budget on display and lighting stuff which is understandable
@@fabianvandermijde4066 he's the photographer / videographer of LMG. Ofc, he's gonna get the best monitor for his passion.
don't forget the 5x 16tb NAS HDD drives (total 80tb, or 64tb usable with raid 5). As someone who does photo and video work. I've got 50tb and am struggling with storage
the most modest and the most over budget, ironically LOL
I wasn't expecting much from the looks of things at the midpoint through the video, but that setup really came together nicely. Looks amazing!
This is a really really nice build. Great design choices, clean desk, well chosen hardware for a usecase (minus the CPU/Mobo fuck up). Very nice!
“Remember when we were using my lenses at work?”
“I couldn’t afford lenses.”
THAT, right there folks, is what we call a get out of jail free card for stolen office equipment. Brandon gets a permanent pass.
that's also why his mismatched cpu/mobo combo replacement gets a free pass too
Linus definitely using the Intel tech upgrade series to get all his shit back to logistics 😂
It's like a fun internal inventory audit. 🍺🤣
9700k with a 3060ti on a Z170 gives me hope of running a 9600k/3070/Z390 setup.
im running a 9400f with a 3060 and its fine no bottlekneck
I've built possibly 1000 computers(and upgraded/repaired many more) since 1990.....but don't think i've ever seen anyone have this much fun building one. fun vid!!!
15:45 12400 is just 6 P cores and no E cores - but even with only 6 it beats a 9700k by a fair amount in pretty much all tasks, and the price is crazy low. I recommend this chip to EVERYONE who asks me, it's unbeatable.
Hey Desinc
Just get a 12900k Engineering sample for 230 bucks, around 10% more performance. Or just be smart and get a ryzen
@@L4ftyOne They're stolen property and have compatibility issues. You don't want that.
I can either get a 12400f for 180€ or 12600kf for 280€. My use case is mostly gaming and some casual gaming. I’m pairing the cpu with a 3060ti btw.
@@buzzlightyearoh, In all honesty, If I were you, I'd go for the 12600K(F) because there's a noticeable leap in performance when compared to the i5 12(400, 500, 600)(F). However, make sure that the "F" version of the 12600K is at least 20€ cheaper than the model that includes integrated graphics. Also, do NOT pay more than 280€ for the CPU.
Jeez, that office actually looks like what I would expect a set at LTT office's to look like. The artsy people really know how to put a room together 😲
Hands down the most beautiful upgrade so far
Its fine i guess. Im not artsy people, at all. Its reasonably functional though. I like the lamp that shines on the table(hard to get it right, to avoid glare on the monitor), and SD dock is great if you use it often.

I love David, 5:39.. Definitely one of my favorite "Newish" on camera/Behind camera personalities.
I find it hilarious that every employee has stolen at least a handful of things from the office even though Linus gets mad about it every time
and the worst at "borrowing" from the office is Linus himself
Plot twist, he stole the most...
I think some of it comes from how much stuff LTT gets, the old stuff has to go somewhere, and people end up taking it home.
I feel like it's fake anger anyway. On top of that, I'm certain if he asked for it back he'd get it.
It's a comedy bit! Like the "forcing" employees to help with the house moving. Or the constant mentioning of the LTT waterbottle .
Linus has probably returned more value in stolen work items than Intel has paid out in tech upgrades.
And that's how he tricked his employees!
@@Mellie036 Yeah that's how you do it.
Linus: hey you want a $5,000 upgrade ?

I'm 100% with Brandon on that BenQ monitor light. I have one, too, it's great. I just wish the cable was a biiiiit more quality and replaceable.

Those LG 31MU97 mostly all died from a ROM failure :( Never been burned so badly by a product recommendation
Surely someone has made a copy of that ROM chip? Should be easy enough to replace given that the chip is available?
Same, I have one from work that died. Supposedly there's a workaround where you can reflash that ROM chip but I haven't gotten around to it
Man, that sucks. It's just one of those things you can't tell in a review... How long did it take to fail?
Mine has been fixed by LG support for around 70 bucks last year. Mine was 31MU97-b with thunderbolt 2, and I lost the thunderbolt connection after the board replacemente, but the monitor is still working. My dad uses it now.
This was uploaded on my birthday! I love these!
Good work dood, good job! That room is a sea of black, get a small slice of color in there, too!
15:45 12400 Actually only has the P cores, so it is only 6 cores, the 12600k is the one with 6+4 cores.
yup
actually wondering this too, I'm using a 12400f and thought where did my e cores go lol
Yeah I remember that. It is just the K series i5 that has E cores
And i still take it personally that Intel did that.
On Mobile you can get 2+8 but on desktop the lowest CPU with e-cores is the 12600K with 6+4 and the extra price of the K-suffix -.-
I want a freaking 1+8 or 2+8. Those are great for office-work.

Yeah, the only major issue I saw was the MB/CPU incompatability
It's amazing they have so many employees now to where they can have a whole series of upgrading their workers setups at home. Amazing concept that only works on a platform like this.
And by the time they are done with all the employees, they can do a $2500 refresh on all the existing setups and do it all over again!
Well intel pays them to make these videos to advertise so obviously they'll keep making more. It's an incredible business plan - intel pays them to make 21 minute long adverts for intel processors, then they put ads on top of the 21 minute intel advert as well. These videos will never end so long as intel is paying for them, at some point they'll start upgrading family members setups, then neighbors setups etc etc.
@@benfubbs2432 true, I don't think it would work with many other companies either on youtube. Whoever came up with the idea, whether it be intel or ltt really struck gold in the best way to advertise while also highlighting the good workplace culture ltt seems to have. I also feel like ltt viewers are more in tune with how advertising works to where this doesn't feel as predatory as some other advertising campaigns are on other channels. maybe I'm biased since I've been watching ltt for a ridiculous part of my life lmao

THIS is thenone I've been waiting for... I've always wanted to know what a tech savvy person would use for photo editing.
That monitor mount is really tricky as it may simply get loose as it is pressing against an angled surface.
It only needs to move slightly to become completely loose very fast and then fall on the desk.
You really need to add some angled piece of wood (or 3D print) and screw it to the desk so it cannot move.
Then on that piece you should clamp the monitor arm.
This will fail rather catastrophically very soon.
Totally subjective here, but this is the best upgrade to date. Unreal setup, and visually it's so appealing as well. Congratulations to Brandon and his SO on the baby as well! 👊
I really do so love the look of that 980 Ti Founder's Edition though... The 1080 Ti Founder's Edition even moreso.
For me this is one of the worst, they could've easily modded the Z170 board to be compatible with 9th gen with minimal issues, but because intel's sponsoring the video and they didn't want to piss them off, they didn't. Z170 and Coffee Lake support is actually possible and easy.
@@Appri That one detail ruined the video for you? Damn you're fragile
yeah visually, this one just screams "a professional sits here" whereas the others are more of the gamer vibe
Brandon really gotta flex his T2 and Leica! Good stuff man!
Most wholesome upgrade. Nice job Brandon 👍
We need a video with the reactions of logistics people when Linus brings cool stuff back from his employees.
If the items were actually needed they probably will be relieved, but if not maybe they'll be like: oh great, I already removed that from inventory now I have to included again and find it a place and a lot more of work...

We have the same lamp. One of the best furniture purchases. It is an amazing mood setter and with coloured bulbs it looks fantastic.
Linus seems more like a great friend than a boss.
Honestly, the benq lamp actually is kinda awesome. A lamp that just shines down on your whole desk and not shine into your eyes and the doesn't cause the glare on your monitor regardless of what it is and, unlike the china brand knockoffs, the day light is colour accurate to enough to not affect your colour grade on screen.
Yep, light where you want it.
As a photographer and a tech fan I was waiting so long for Brandon's uprgrade! Glad it turned out as amazing as I expected! That BenQ light sure looks like a game changer!
20:07 These final shots look freakin' awesome!
Brandon is one of the great OGs of LTT. His on camera presence is lightyears ahead of where it was ~10 years ago.
Did anyone else foresee that the Z170 would not work with the 9700k? I was sitting there wondering how Linus hadn't noticed that he was trying to install 9th gen in a 6th gen board. Side note, it should be entirely possible for those to work together if not for Intel unnecessarily changing their pinout for LGA 1151.
I'd be rocking a 9900k if not for that. Went with Ryzen instead.
Intel probably changed pin layout because most of the older boards didn't have a power delivery capable of dealing with the likes of the 9900K. The 7700K had half the cores and close to half the power draw.
Sure, enthusiast boards could handle it, but those aren't the ones Intel would have been worried about.
Yeah I was waiting for that realization too 🙂 I've had that same board for years now and just recently upgraded to a 7700k I received for free.
@@Steamrick Apparently its possible to flash a different bios on the z170 boards and get 8th/9th gen chips working. You also have to cover a couple pins with electrical tape or some kinda mask.
But you're right about needing to watch what CPU you use and be sure the board is rated for it.e of
Yeah first thing I noticed.
Linus' paint job may not have been stellar, but we can be sure it was eggshell.
What a clean setup. I really love this one. Something I'd copy. And I'm getting 12400 too. It's cheap and fast.
My work gave us Steelcase chairs. When they were upgrading ours and throwing the old ones away I took mine home and still use it in my garage 😊

Ye 😂
That is one sweet smooth looking setup. Probably the neatest one so far at the end of the video. Really love this series. Wonder how many more we have to go. Some of the staff that don't often see the front of the camera have been the best ones.
15M Subscribers. Great job!
Very nice final setup, I'd like something like that for my self as I'm currently living out of boxes due to a fault of my own making that's hard to fix due to outside complications.
these are my most favourite LTT vids....seeing the guys behind the scenes and what tech they enjoy. Brilliant.
"Do you want to go out???"
-Cat looks longingly
"He *really* wants to go out.*
**Picks cat up and walks in the opposite direction.** Lol.
Future historians will point to this moment as the catalyst for the Great Feline-Human War. Future historians will of course communicate this through variably pitched meows.
The setup looks sick af. Especially the desk.
I think this setup is my favorite out of all of them.
ESPECIALLY THAT SHELF
The intel extreme tech upgrade series is my favourite you should do more
Brandon: "I didn't want to be wasteful and use what I have."
Linus: "Your many generations past 7yr old mobo won't work with your 4yr old CPU."
😫
He also said that he bought this combo from work
Yeah, you have to go AMD if you want CPU motherboard combos to be compatible over that wide of a gap.
@@FuburLuck only in the past xD
@@FuburLuck Meanwhile, many b350 and x370 boards lack 5000 series support.....
@@FuburLuck didn't ltt do a video with a China home market Intel motherboard that had multi generation cpu support as well as older ram support than the CPU supposedly sorted.
I love the Intel Tech Upgrade series. I think it's because I can imagine what I would do with $5,000 for tech.
Lmao same. *poor noises*
I love that you guys put the 9700K as the top purchase link
Legit my favorite LTT series. If not busy I drop EVERYTHING to watch one of these. I am already super jealous of any new fans that get to just binge these now lol.
"I couldn't afford lenses"
Man LTT has come a long way
"I couldn't afford lenses" to "we just bought multiple $50,000 cameras!" In A few short years
@@kena4977 Well it has been more than a decade.
Very clean looking setup in the end
Fantastic. I love this series.
