Always great to see a father and son gaming together. I'm sure the money will be worth the shared memories
Linus and his wife's boyfriend
You mean Husband and Husband? I believe there will be enough fan fiction.
I'm confused about which one is the father, and which one is the son? And where does this leave Colton?
it's actually Yvonne's husband's boyfriend you guys! please update your info

Considering how much work Jake did for Linus’ new house, this upgrade is long overdue. Also, we love Arlo & his doggo brother. They deserve to be spoiled.
I'm sure he was paid for that in some way
@@thunderarch5951 I figured he was paid with that driving sim set-up.
He's paid on the clock lol, the extra hardware is just cream.
Well paid work probably, not some charity
I mean, as difficult as they made the house out to be, I’d have made him wait too lol
I get the sense that Linus secretly coordinated this entire intel upgrade to be able to find out what his employees took from the office
And maybe all of that to try to convince his wife he doesn't have THAT much stuff from the office at home and that it's like totally normal.
Id say at 5000 a person its a loss for what he found 😆😆

*This mans racing setup costs more than my actual, functional car*
Man, my simrig also cost more than my car...
To be fair, sim racing is still infinitely cheaper than actual racing. Can't imagine how you'd build a full-on race car while shipping it around the world for the races

sim rigs cost a few grand for decent stuff & its good when you get into it, i went a different route & bought a car to turn into a track car, way more expensive. sim racing will be great in a few years time when VR tech gets better

I only slightly envy Jake's direct drive wheel. Otherwise I've got almost the same setup that all my friends envy.
I'm currently listening to this on a pair of 30+ years old KEF C55 speakers. They sound amazing. $50 at a thrift store, and they sound dramatically better than anything under $500 today.
Well after 30 years, you better replace the sicken of the membrane.
Further, new drivers are really really crazy compared to the old ones. No ferro- driver has a chance against a neodymium one!

As a sim racing enthusiast it’s great to see regular people’s reaction to how expensive things are. It makes sense to us but from the outside yeah it’s nuts.

@@lynnmckenney1987 you say that. But one of my projects and one of my old ones we’re definitely way below what it costs for a nice new sim setup. But then again if I don’t get to take my $500 shitbox on a track it’s not the same.
Yep, I just dropped 2600 to upgrade from a high end thrustmaster setup to a Fanatec Podium DD2, that's still not including the fanatec shifter and handbrake I already had😂😂 no regrets
felt like I watched the monitor fall in slow mo. was sure someone was going to see that coming. you guys never disappoint 😂
The KEF Q150 (and Q100 for that matter) are very good speakers for the money and are especially so if you can find them used for a good deal. They do benefit greatly from a sub, but once you give them some bass reinforcement, they're honestly great speakers. KEF does make much nicer speakers, but they're a lot more expensive and weigh more, so they don't wall mount as readily.
I love how excited Linus gets in these. Really shows how much he considers employees personal lives as vaulable :)
And he still enjoys the build process.
Well he got to give out employee's benefit for free while raking in money from both sponsor and views.

Now i just have a few rolls of cable lying around that i can cut to whatever length i need.
Obviously cant do stuff like HDMI - but most of the other stuff is (audio, ethernet, power, etc) i do myself.
@@ditunnod I mean, the way I always see it, if a setup is likely to change, it’s a lot easier to deal with moving and managing the “more cable than you needed at the time” purchase than the “precise right length and no longer” purchase. 🤣
I used your videos to build my own pc after a few years of waiting for a good time to buy about a month ago I bought parts… I was happy to see the same RAM used in the build but it absolutely surprised when the price almost half a year ago was $240 for the 6000 and I was fortunate to get the 6400 in at about $120 which is baffling. Until it's copper water tubing
I love how even after all these years something as simple as changing out a graphics card still poses random crazy ass problems.
We’ve all been there.
I absolutely have a home theater receiver running my 9.1 computer speaker setup.
Totally recommend the setup.
Edit: this was true on the SB1000 and the SB2000 but may not be true on the SB2000 Pro in this video. The Pro has a line out still but it appears to no longer have the highpass filter. This will still work but you won't get the benefit of the filter.
You are wiring the sub wrong. You shouldn't be using a splitter, the sub has a highpass filter built in. You need to put the rca out from your DAC into the line in on the sub and then run the line out on the sub into your speaker amp. What this does is act as a crossover so the speakers are no longer trying to reproduce the frequency range you have asked the sub to handle. This means your speakers and amp aren't wasting power trying to reproduce subbass when you have a sub thats already doing that. Your midrange drivers should just generally perform better once they don't have to deal with that really low frequency range.
Didn't even realize you could do this :O Thanks for the recommendation!
Or use the pre out on the amp (which amp is he using?) directly into the sub and set the low pass filter on the sub.
Oh thank god someone pointed this out because that splitter was hurting my soul
+1 If the monitor+amp/dac/interface support XLR go with xlr. I had so much issues with unbalanced rcas.
@Nothinglastsforever right, if you have a pre-out and power amp in you can run pre-out to your sub and then out from the sub to your power amp in. I have this on my old reciver but it seems pretty rare to have a pre-out/power in on integrateds these days. Since he is probably just using the DAC as the only source anyway it should be fine just running from the DAC if he doesn't have a pre-out
Jake: Why wouldn't you use the output on the sub? It has the crossover integrated, as it's a powered sub, and then you use the output into the speakers' input for the amp. No need to use splitters! Also, you're sending full range to the tops the way you wired it, so it's going to muddy the frequencies in the high-bass low-mid range.
I was just about to write this, cheers. The only reasoning I can muster would be to ensure that the signal is being amplified independently by each monitor/sub? But I still don't think that's right.
Also interested to know if that second sub ever passively moves due to the bigger one firing.
I was thinking exactly that. Shows that being a genius in computers doesn't make you a good sound engineer :)
The splitters are unnecessary, but the outputs on the SB-2000 Pro are full band pass-through. They do not high pass the main speakers unfortunately.
Will the sub act as an amp for the speakers?
You dont need to high pass the top speakers, just adjust the variable crossover on the sub. If its to muddy you should close more the crossover. This is a close range setup, if you high pass the tops they are gonna blast your head.
Thoses SVS Subs are killer. I have the original SB12, absolutely shakes the room in a very good way!
I think it's fun how much fun Linus seemed to be having in this episode
Jake is my spirit animal.
I too only extensively research directly into what I'm purchasing, and not whether or not it works in my setup.
always really cool to see Jake share the sim racing hobby with a wider audience. I'd watch a lot more of this
Jakes gotta be my favorite of the LTT staff just as a fellow BMW fan/car guy in general
@@reilandeubank oh yeah for sure
I can't believe despite dropping thousands (of Linus' money) on that wheel and shifter and everything he's only running a single monitor setup for it though. I imagined with the budget of everything else he'd have a panoramic projector or a VR setup with an Index or something.
@@Grimmers VR is really cool to experience with sim racing, but super annoying to setup and use regularly. There's a lotta user experience kinks for them to work out. While the initial setup can be annoying, a triple monitor setup is definitely the way to go. Or at least one of those fancy giant high refresh rate ultrawides.
I get the vibe he's into sim racing, but not like crazy nerdy about it though.... but it's inevitable that he'll delve deeper into this rabbit hole... just have patience and pity for his wallet. 🥲
@@Grimmers tbh sometimes less is more. I used to play on 3 monitors but just using an ultrawide is just way more convenient.
To be honest, I felt the same way about the litter box. Like, how hard is it to scoop? But then, after experiencing it, it was well worth the money. One of my cats does not know how to cover his turds, and the smell would be awful. With the Litter Robot, that was a non issue. It was also great since it let us be away for long weekends without needing a pet sitter.
But yea, definitely too expensive for a motor and weight sensor. The BOM cost is probably laughably low.
Keep in mind; you're also paying for the R&D, testing (do kitties like it or freak out - hole too big or too small - what happens when kittie steps back in to further bury his poop - etc), + the guarantee and peace of mind that your cat doesn't get mangled or freak out when you're not home.
Would you feel equally at ease when if you bought a knock-off from AliExpress.. from someone who figured "well.. It's basically a cement mixer, right..? I can make that" (:
Sure, but if there was more competition on the market/more interest in the product (bigger economy of scale), no way it would be $550-$700! Think of the R&D involved in a game console, and those cost $500 or less.
Still a great product (I have 2 and don't regret it), but you are kidding yourself if you think the R&D on the litter robot makes up for the premium. Not saying it should be like $50 dirt cheap. $250-$300 makes a lot more sense to me, considering they already gouge on accessories/refills.
@@cheetoritos Ah, but wouldn't you agree that consoles are probably sold at a mild loss, only to make the money back through selling games (as well as licensing, selling peripherals, and online game shops where you can spend your 'nintendo cards', or xbucks (or whatever)
I recall a recent video where Linus tries to make a 'Series S' or X or something equivalent PC, and is unable to do it at that price point...
(I'm guessing that's not just a happy little fluke. More like the 'razor & blades' model, or the 'printer & cartridge' thing.)
So unless the cat mixer people are also producing special kitty litter, there's likely no secondary income for them.
They might have patented the design too, btw...
EDIT: wait.. Did you say refills...?
(They sell custom litter..?)
They sell liner bags and a lot of accessories. You don't have to buy from them, there are 3rd party alternatives, but I imagine a lot of people do get first party.
Their latest is an odor absorbing pod that needs to be replaced every 2 weeks and costs like $125 per year. They definitely have recurring revenue streams. Not exactly the same as the console business since they are guaranteed a cut of all game sales (and pirating is a lot more difficult) while the Litter Robot customers have alternative options.
Either way, still a great product! I imagine they've done their market research with pricing. I think if they lowered the price by $100-$200 they could probably sell more. But then again, for most people, if they have no problem with their $30 plastic bin, anything over $100 would probably be a hard sell, so maybe lowering the price would get them any more customers
These 2 i honestly think r the luckiest guys ever to be able to get and build stuff like this just to show folks is beyond me. Hook us regular folks up. Id love to do a video build. Especially that I've never built 1 from scratch. I must do this in my lifetime
15:40 instead of using RCA Splitters, go RCA from your Source -> Sub Input -> Sub Output RCA -> Amp, this way the Sub will do crossover of the low frequencies.
Saves small speakers like those KEFs from also playing low bass, which they aren't good at.

REW and Equalizer APO is a freeware solution to room correction. Great pick on the sealed sub, but you’re inviting issues having those rear-ported speakers so close to the wall. A front-ported speaker would be a much better choice for this setup (though $200 for those Q150’s is excellent!)
Also using EQ APO with my 2.1 desktop setup. The only problem is that in windows you need to do a virtual 5.1 setup and reroute the outputs to correct the sub and front speakers individually.
Of course it needs a LOT of experience to interpret the measurements correct the frequency response in the right way, because you have all freedom to make it better or worse. Fully automatic correction nowadays doesn't make the experience worse, but it's still far away from a manually dialed in response.
I'd also add that the Behringer ECM8000 measurement microphone costs about 40 dollars and is more than adequate for doing this type of room measurement and correction.
equalizer APOs equalizer ALONE should be standard on everyones PCs, every person ive sent my profile is in love with it and hears EVERYTYHING on Hunt Showdown and a lot more on regular games too

Protip for other setup kings: buy isolation pads for your desktop speakers/monitors. It's little edits like this that make my day. Gave me a proper chuckle.
"Please don't break, screw. I love you." Jake literally praying to the thread gods 🤣
Given how enthusiastic Jake has been in all of the sim racing videos, it was inevitable that he was gonna already have some ballin' sim rig stuff! I also love Arlo and Ripley, and how Jake spoils them with tech stuff aswell!
I love the dynamics of the Jake-Linus duo. It feels like old Orange County Choppers vibes but less violent lol
13:02 "Fine, YOU love me then." - the dog
Damn Jake is loaded, that surround sound setup in the living room alone must have been a pretty penny
4:39 Linus "OKEEEEH" Button
As a sim racer, I knew Jake was a legit (sim racer) when he mentioned the CPU overheat warning. Probably running the T-rex mod x 32 grid on Shukoto, while raining in VR in the latest SOL mod at max in AC. Or not.
I kind of doubt it since the FOV isn't set up properly.
do you know what his sim base is?
@@joem3793 looks like a CSL DD, there are better ones around the same price point like the Moza R9. I wouldn't get it unless if you already have other fanatec gear.
He seems casual at best.
@@DropkickNation Absolutely, blasting around Shutoko or Nords in AC is the simracing equivalent of playing NFS
Jake is my new favorite character on the LTT version of Friends. And I love the giant cat
That shifter also has a switch to make it a sequential shifter which is pretty neat. But I still recommend buying a shift knob with range selector and gear splitting switch for American Truck Simulator
Obviously Jakes upgrade was going to be insane / amazing. Love it! Smart move on the used audio. We can just hope Luke gets to do an upgrade, man needs shoes
It was nice to see that he shopped around. Its smart and thats what most people on a budget do or should do. Granted, his budget was 5k, but he got even more out of it by buying stuff used / discounted.
I think Luke doesn't qualify for Extreme Tech Upgrade cause Floatplane employees dont
13:00 Smart editor to leave the dog booping the camera in the cut
Second tech upgrade video I've watched noticing Maplestory merch!
Love this content! Also Jake totally would be the kinda person to let his dog go and do that. x'D
Love how Linus does this for his employees. A boss that cares and rewards the people who help him to be successful.
You’re good at math? 🤪🤪🤪
Technically it’s intel doing it but I’m sure it does take a lot for Linus to clear a whole day for this
this is Intels doing, not linus's..
Yes, Linus does this...
@@ashleyavenuemusic Intel provided the money. Linus helped install the new tech.
Out of every extreme tech upgrade, this is the one I relate to the most. I would probably do almost the exact same things that Jake did
I remember you building this a long time ago. Can’t wait for it to actually be finished lol
This is ONE thing I give to high end Corsair fans. So the corsair QL120s have metal stickers, they're machined, and MINE came with one with a misaligned sticker. LUCKILY I was able to fix this as corsair had MADE alignment tabs and a specific machined recess FOR the stickers. It made fixing it so much nicer
David's camera commentary always hilarious.
Kef+sub desktop audio setup is definitely the way to go. The coaxial driver makes for an excellent near field experience. Was such a huge upgrade from the Logitech “speakers in a box” solution I’d used for years before.
9:00 if you're struggling to put fans Infront of a rad like this on your own, mount all your fans normally but only use 2 screws on 2 opposing diagonal corners, then use the other holes to mount the rad and once the rad is mounted remove and replace the standard fan screws with the ones for the rad.
0:56 and THIS is why I love this channel 😂
