Hey everyone, quick correction! In the video, I accidentally mentioned the price of the guitar as $899. It is in fact only £899 at Thomann UK. Sorry for any confusion caused!
This brand of guitar manufacturing makes literally 70% of all the guitar brands you see in Guitar Center and Sam Ash.
Yeh it’s crazy isn’t! They are very well experienced
The prog song was a change of seasons by dream theater. I know this because dream theater was my late brother's favourite band and he loved that song. Sadly he passed away last year in a motorcycle accident. We had the spirit carries on by DT played at his funeral. I even now own a beautiful music man majesty in memory of him. Every time I hear a change of seasons it reminds me of him as it was the first song from dream theater that I gave a chance and he introduced me to it. You played it beautifully, Thank you for helping re live that memory of listening to it for the first time with him
Such a great song
Literally sitting here with the 6 string version tuned to B in my lap when this video popped up! Great metal guitar
Haha yesssss what riffs are you playing
@@JamieSlays Learning some Gatecreeper songs 🤘 Any other recommendations? Most of my guitars are in standard
@@Panda-sd9nd Check out The Spawn of Satan - Complete Collection album. They were an awesome obscure Death Metal band fronted by the late Jim Satanic, who was best know in the American scene for being the drummer of underground legends Nun Slaughter. I believe they were in B for their split EP with short-lived band Bloodsick. They later recorded in C for their splits with Evil Angel and Sathanas. I hope you end up digging this band, they were one of the first Death Metal bands I heard that got me interested in the style back in 9th grade, and they've remained one of my favorites since. I've never heard anyone cover this band in any video, good luck and keep Rocking! \m/
Bro, your technique looks great.. like flawless. Great video
Thanks! I try haha I appreciate you watching
Cort used to build for Ibanez and ESP LTD if i remember right. They build some stellar stuff, I've owned a couple of em
Yeahhhhh
@@JamieSlays your ibanez rgaix6fm that I see you play A LOT is made by them. It's not a bad thing, I own the 7 string version and really like it.
@@error262 yeh I’m pretty sure they made most Indonesian guitars?
@@JamieSlaysdefinitely. They are easily the largest guitar manufacturer worldwide, as well as the largest ghost builder.
For awhile their factories were making like 75% of guitars, they used to make basically every import level guitar, at one point the were building, Jackson’s, prs, schecter, ltd, Washburn, many others so the quality is definitely there
Cort's acoustic guitars have always been some of my favourites; Had no idea they made 7-string electrics of this quality that's awesome
That’s sick! I should try an acoustic. What are they like?
not surprised you had a blast!! my main for ages was one of their k707x with fishmans
Yeh! I wanna try that
Cort makes really solid guitars, I had one of their cheapest guitars, the GHR100 something and what a beautiful guitar it was which is why I'm probably going to get a kx507ms soon. Their quality is on-par with Ibanez rg/premium range which us not surprising considering they built the higher end Ibanez back in the 2000's or maybe even before that. Love Cort
My first guitar is a white Cort Effector Explorer (with built-in effects) I ordered from a Sears Catalog a long long time ago. Amazingly it's still at my Mom's house with my also ancient Peavey Studio Pro 20watt Combo for whenever I go home for a visit! 🤘
Oh wow that’s sick! Go get it back haha
Love that an unearth song (3. Metalcore) made it in there
My PRS SE Mark Holcomb is manufactured by Cort. One of the best guitars I own
Are they really?
I have the 7 string version
I have the 6 and 7 string versions. 6 string is the 2022 blue burst version and the 7 is the Holcomb burst. Look on the back of the headstock and it will say “Built by Cor-Tek” and the place of manufacture is Indonesia.
@@TheHiller94 Core-tek is Cort?
that slime green jackson is a dope guitar i love mine
Amon Amarth - The Pursuit of Vikings !! Nice video man yes that's only a name stamps at this points they know how to made good guitars :).
Absolute rifffff
I notice a lot of people struggle when diving into extended range guitars because they're playing as if they are an entirely new instrument. If you already grasp the concept and theory of the top six strings it becomes much easier imo to play 7,8,9 string guitars. This advice may not help everyone but it surely helped me understand I was overcomplicating extended range guitars when I already knew 85% of the instrument.
I'd word it slightly different. A seven string in A is just standard tuning on the bottom six strings but with a baritone string on top. That is the easiest way I explain it to people. Or if you typically play a six string in drop c or d just play the top string the same in a seven string in b or a. 8 strings are a bit different but if you understand scales with a little practice it's honestly the finest timing it into G sharp and making noises you didn't know guitars could make.
Also I think schecter is the best brand for your buck.
While zooming in on this beautiful guitar, I thought to myself , "This really looks like a Schecter guitar", but when you added it was made by one of the world's largest manufacturers honestly, I chose either Ibanez or an ESP Guitar. Lets go Cort Guitars!! You sound & look killer!! 🎸🔥🤘
Wooooo
Heartwork is still one of the greatest albums ever produced.
Jamie slays if you see this can you please tell me where the seymour Duncan's nazguls sentients does it have locking tuners a graphite nut and stainless steel frets I know it's alot to ask of a guitar at that price range and I would probably buy it anyway and just add the few things like locking tuners and graphtech nut but if I has stainless steel frets to that would be amazing even more so anyways whats the model of that cort if you see this please let me know I would love to pick one up
hiya! www.thomann.de/gb/thlpg_mfuax7u93m.html here it is :D yeh the pickups were great. locking tuners yeh. stainless steel frets yeh! TICK!! :D
Went to cort's website and the specs shows it does have Stainless steel frets, this definetly lock me in on a purchase.
2:50 Awesome guitar Have to check it out
Ah yes. Does great in all genres. Meta, metal, metal and metal, more metal, metal and even metal! It’s really diverse! 🫤
Metal sub genres yeh ;P I think I made sure I said that in the video haha. To be fair I didn’t know people used 7 strings in any other genre besides metal until last week haha
ima predict early in that video that is a cort. That simply is so recognizable to me. One of my dream guitar. Hope im right
First time ever hearing of Cort guitars. I'm an ESP guy myself. But I was surprised with the Prog Metal in how well it cleaned up with great tone. 🤘🎸
Oh yeh? That’s great. Yeh the clean tone is so nice on this!
I've tried various of Cort in Asia yes I can approve they're pretty great value! (I've had on-hand experience with different brands to approve its pretty great)
Yesss that’s great. Yeh I really
Enjoy them!
Cort got my attention with this with the inclusion of that Evertune bridge and good looking headstock. Found this video by search for "2024 guitar with evertune bridge." I was guessing Solar guitar but i was like "naw, they dont make that many guitars, haven't been around that long, hand access cut away areas dont have that sharp look and that hated logo is not on the fretboard."
If the guitar have stainless steel frets(a must for folks that pratice a lot)will get it and have a luthier install fretboard makers. Hope they are considering 6 string models and different colors.
Hi Jamie, do you have a video explaining how to get tone like yours? I've been looking for months and It always feels like I can't get it right
hiya! in this video I used the polychrome DSP Mcrocklin suite :D I love it
My X500 Menace is absolutely great !!!!
I've had the Kx700 etched since Fluff did the review, that guitar does not disappoint!🎉 Fishman Fluence pickups, Yes Please!😂
Yeah! Totally! I wanna try those
@@JamieSlaysThe neck on the 6 string is so fast, it's like you have to retrain your fingers how to move with such ease now, it's crazy such a fast neck, blows my mind!
8:44 Vehemence - By Your Bedside what a banger!!!
Yehhhhh
absolutely killer! loved this song to death :D
Would have totally guessed an Ibanez, but Cort makes some awesome guitars.
This Brand is really good . They make a lot of guitars.
Yeahhhhh
That be a Cort right there
It is a shame it does not have coil splitting. Could you possibly tell us if pickups are 4 wires to add this mod?
Yeah I wish it did. I think the pickups are just heat wrapped and could be cut and wired for coil tap. I’d love it
I still have my 1996 Cort Stature Gold.
When I was in Spain for about 9 months I bought a Cort 7 string while I was their to jam on and dude it was stellar. The frets were perfect, the neck was fast, the guitar was light but felt dense. Came with active EMG’s.I loved it. Was sad when I got back to the states (I sold the guitar back to the store before I left) that I couldn’t find one here without insane shipping. However, thanks for the vid because now I have to get one of these. Can my bank account take it? Prob not but who cares.
Yehhhhhh I hope you like it! I love it. Do you still have any other ones
@@JamieSlays unfortunately I don’t have any Cort’s, just my Ibanez fanned fret 8 string and my Schecter demon 7. Cort is definitely putting out some stuff that has quality way beyond the price point though so my next axe I’m definitely gonna look into them.
Is it a solar
2:50 🎸
I have yet to try a Cort but man this may change my mind, just need a different color (I have WAY to many black guitars lol)
Yeh bro! They have so many nice variations :)
Funny, whenever I pick up a 7 string I play The Great Dividers or My Desire by Unearth right off the bat lol
Sickkkk
Cort underated brand🎉😊
I did guess it was Cort but only because I've done so much 7 string research in the recent past cuz I was looking for very specific specs. I wouldn't say Carcass was grindcore anymore when they released Heartwork. Also Vehemence are killer, good choice. Guitar sounds great!
Yeh I knowwwww but ‘Carcass are regarded as pioneers of the grindcore and melodic death metal genre.’
@@JamieSlays I appreciate you waited awhile before reviewing it. After few more weeks do you still feel the same about it? And do you think getting a Solar of the same style would be equivalent?
@@kurukq hiya! Yeh I’ve had solars in the past also and I’d say they’re on par with the cort guitars. I dunno specifics but I know cort make a lot of guitars for brands that make models in Indonesia!
@@JamieSlays Yo, I've been writing metalcore-y and Vehemence style riffs but I'm not too happy with my tone. What kind of VST's would you recommend?

I always wondered why almost all guitars have fret markers, it looks so ugly. Love this look
Yehhhhhh agreed
What was the prog riff from?
A dream theatre song but don’t ask me which haha
Change of Seasons :)
Also, for that price, I'm going LTD/ESP, £899 is like $2kcdn
Interesting. Is that swayed by brand loyalty?
@JamieSlays For that price tag, yeah, tried tested and true... Affordable to me is like a Godin Redline II or something, solid build for like $650cdn or something... Lots of newer brands look amazing, Legator, Solar, etc etc, but I'm a poor working class single father lol, so i play it safe
Affordable, 800 dora price tag, yeah
What is affordable with an ever tune
+1 sub for this beautiful video mate
Thank you! I appreciate it 🥰
I thought when he said affordable he meant affordable
I didddd. The latest ibanez 7 string evertune guitar. Is $2399. This guitar is not $2399 so I’d say it’s fairly affordable
Yeah I thought the same, in Hungary, where I live it is 1200 pounds converted from our currency, I think most of the world wouldn't call that affordable (for a lot of people it's about two months of salary here). Also The cheapest Ibanez with evertune is around 1400 pounds (Ibanez APEX30-MGM), so the two prices are somewhat "similar", but that price-range guitar is just a dream (at least for me). Maybe it's worth it for the evertune, never had a guitar with that bridge before.
Yup, same in no way is that affordable. Its the classic supermarket scheme they blast you in the face with a very.expensive option (2399) and then they say.they have an affordable.version so u feel u saved money but u still spent 900 euro
Checked a Canadian retailer and it's $2220 CAD.... not so affordable lol
i think for the build quality and spec its still affordable. the new ibanez 7 string RGD with evertune is £2399 which is $4089CAD
Love me some Heartwork. Keep on slayin' Jamie
Thanks! Appreciate your support
2:50 🎸
I just played one seven string before, which wasn't too good, but that looks crazy 🤩
Great video, next time let us try to guess the manufacturer before knowing its budget
Good idea!
Don’t have to guess. I already know it’s a cort. I’ve seen this one a few times now. The only thing holding me back from this is the bolt on :/ I know it’s not a huge deal to most. Thing is I’ve bruised the absolute hell out of my pinky and the meat right below my pinky finger by AGGRESSIVELY sliding up the neck at a show one night. Idk how the exact physics went down but I slid my hand up the neck and my hand caught that neck joint and my knees nearly friggin buckled under that pain. Half my hand turned purple and yellow. I won’t buy a bolt on ever again over that incident. I even pulled the neck off that guitar and glued it down and then sanded it all smooth. Still got that one. lol. That’s been like 15-20 years ago since I did that so my glue job clearly held up.
Oh no! That’s crazy. I love Bolt on but I’ve never had an incident like that! What do you do to combat it? Super slimline heel joint?
@@JamieSlays nah I just got all neck thru guitars now.
2:50 🎸
7 string guitars could be built differently if manufacturers wanted to. Instead of 25.5 scale length they could build 25 inch, slightly shorter but makes a huge difference. Sawtooth has one 7-string guitar with 25. Also the 48 mm nut width is quite a bulky size. 46 mm is just as good but plays a lot smoother. ESP has one.
And another thing is frets. Most use jumbo frets but they are also higher and that results in a thicker neck. Medium frets are easier to play for most guitarists (yes even if they dont know it) especially with a 7 string. Sawtooth also has this on their MAB 7 string. Unfortunately that guitar is sold out.
And the Evertune Bridge is a life saver. I haven´t tried one yet but looking back at all the hours I spent only by tuning the guitar I would go for the Evertune. You want to play the guitar not tune it all the time which will create agony and lack of enthusiasm to play. The only downside of an Evertune is that it sounds a bit clinical because - it always stays perfect in tune. That takes away a bit the stubborn character of a guitar which is charming and annoying at the same time. A good alternative to this would be a Floyd Rose style bridge. That also stays in tune pretty much but you keep the natural character of the guitar.
thats super insightful. i agree with some of these points !
@@JamieSlays thanks. I experimented a lot and sacrificed guitars for this purpose. Best for me would be to have a custom guitar build but is quite costly. Another point is fretboard radius. From my experience when the fretboard is flat (20 inch) the neck feels wider.
🎸🤘
I heard some Carcass in there 😊
You did indeeeed absolutely heavy
as soon as i saw that evertune i knew its not available in india

@@JamieSlays Ah. The pop up text said $899. So it's really about $1,030 with shipping. Still good value considering all the specs you get.
Thanks for the vid, great review.
It is definitely a nice guitar, but I think we have different definitions for the word "affordable".
Yeh possibly. But for the spec it’s incredible. Ibanez just released one that’s $2400 for basically the same spec

for that price I think I'm buying a schecter. My 700$ Reaper is a monster.
What 7 string schecter comes with a 5 piece neck, duncans, and an evertune at 700$?
Exactly my point. People aren’t checking the spec for how affordable this is
I guessed correctly lol.
While I've loved your content for many years and seen many videos of your's, I cant agree with this sponsored video.
This model is priced to be about $1,000 and to most of everyone out there, thats not affordable unless you save up for it. Thats mid-tear at the very least and far better guitars are out there for similar price points. The previous model of this guitar, the KX700, is still $900 brand new.
While Cort, yes, is one of the largest manufacturers out there, their sales just dont match up to the other names such as Jackson, Ibanez, Fender, etc. Thier most sold guitars are their cheap entry level >$400 guitars and thats sadly what Cort has always been known for. The reason why they are among the top for manufacturing is because they take on contracts from more popular name brands to fulfill manufacturing for them. Thats how theyve marketed themselves for decades. But when you talk about sales, custom shops, signatures, and revolutionary products, cort is never named which is for obvious reasons.
Thanks for your feedback :) I think I’ve a mistake on the price. It’s more expensive than I said. But I still believe for the quality and features it’s affordable compared to brands like ibanez that charge £2399 for the same thing

and scale is 25.5 for 7 string🤣
Yeah! Nice isn’t it. Comfortable
@@JamieSlays maybe is comfortable but is pretty much useless now days to have 25.5 scale on 7 string because drop G is basically E standard on 7 string and with this scale is so harad, and a lot people use drop F or E or even lower

im sorry but what? Since when is a 900$ guitar affordable? its very misleading. Average global income on earth is 9$k per year and ur saying that spending 1/10 of your whole yearly salary is affordable????
For the spec that it has. It’s very affordable. Evertune alone is $400+ pickups $200 tuning pegs. Wood. Building. Ibanez just released essentially a similar model and it’s $2399??
@@JamieSlays But its not affordable. maybe in relation to the specs but its not. for an average person spending 1/10th of your salary on one guitar is not affordable. and it doesnt matter if this is less then 2399 its still alot of money.
