She's Gone 😞 and One on One 🔥 are incredible songs!!! One is about the stark realization that your heart is broken and the other is sexy and full of passion. Excellent song writing that makes you feel.
"She's Gone" is the best song ever written. For the best live performance, watch "Me and Mrs. Jones". Oh, and the "stinkface" through most of the video will keep me coming back.
Yes, you summed it up well; Hall & Oates were masters at blending R&B with catchy pop, with the addition of Darryl's vocals--one of the best blue-eyed soul singers ever. I'm sure you'll get tons of suggestions, but I think good choices for the two/three of you would be the wonderfully soaring "She's Gone", "I Can't Go For That" (funky groove), and the poppin' "You Make My Dreams Come True". But with Hall & Oates, you really can't go wrong, whatever you choose.
“‘Rich Girl’ was written about an old boyfriend of Sara’s [Allen] from college that she was still friends with at the time. His name is Victor Walker. He came to our apartment, and he was acting sort of strange. His father was quite rich. I think he was involved with some kind of a fast-food chain. I said, ‘This guy is out of his mind, but he doesn’t have to worry about it because his father’s gonna bail him out of any problems he gets in.’ So I sat down and wrote that chorus. [Sings] He can rely on the old man’s money / he can rely on the old man’s money / he’s a rich guy. I thought that didn’t sound right, so I changed it to rich girl. He knows the song was written about him.”
So funny you said it reminded you of ELO, because although I'd heard Hall & Oates on the radio my respect and admiration for them really grew from when I say them open for ELO on their '81 Time tour. Their live show totally knocked it out of the park.
9:05 Ryan, you might like the early 90’s cover of “Sara Smile” by R&B trio After 7 (Babyface’s 2 brothers and their cousin). It’s over 4 mins and they bring their own flava.✌🏽
The first Top 40 hit with the word "bitch" in it, and it's in the song at least 5 times. 😂 I love it!!!! Now you guys need to do "She's Gone," "Kiss On My List," "Private Eyes," "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)," "Family Man," "Say It Isn't So" and "Adult Education," the latter of which was a major influence, along with Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight," on the burgeoning Industrial Music scene which flourished in the 90s.
You really can’t go wrong with Hall & Oates. I like this song okay. Not one of their best though. She’s Gone is about as close to perfect as you can get. The music in that song is PHENOMENAL. And Daryl’s voice singing those heartbreaking lyrics just really gets to me.
❤this even though it is more Pop than Blues. This was John Oates idea and it is really about NYC and this is what came ofe the original idea. Their live cover of Me And Mrs Jones is were you get some amazing vocal acrobatics from Daryl Hall
The ultimate song is “ Do what you want, be who you are” (1976) by this group (IMHO). I remember when the song came out and it’s been my favorite ever since! Of course Boz Skaggs LOW DOWN is right next to it!
I always thought this song was inspired by the Patty Hearst kidnapping saga that happened in the mid-70s. She was taken by a domestic terrorist group known as The Symbionese Liberation Army.
~ Loved your reactions and love Hall & Oates! 🥰 Hoping for - "She's Gone - Wait for Me - Your Kiss Is On My List - Private Eyes - I Can't Go For That - One on One".
Darryl Hall did a solo album called Sacred Songs in about 1979, produced by King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp. Fripp wanted Hall to be lead singer for a reconstituted King Crimson, but RCA said NO. That job eventually went to Adrian Belew.
You should add Ambrosia's "You're the only woman" and Billy Joel's "Just the way you are" Both are of the yacht rock era when billboard top 40 radio went through a "mellow" phase circa 70s to early 80s
You loved Sara Smile. Daryl was heavily influenced by the 1970's Phillysound if you liked Sarah Smile, you must listen to Darly singing I'm in a Philly Mood. Just pure soul guys.
You should check out Live From Daryls House! Its him and a band and a special guest each week. And there have been some amazing guests on it. Smokey Robinson was one of the best!
I looked it up and this song was actually written by one of Hall's girlfriend;s former lovers. Hall said he changed it from "rich boy" to "rich girl" because it sounded better.
Watch the documentary on We are the World on Netflix ... Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, and Darryl Hall are next to each other - they would be the Trifecta!!!
One of the best, without doubt. Speaking of fire, you should check out 'Fire' performed by the Pointer Sisters; written by Bruce Springsteen. If was this song/performance that really jettisoned the group into pop stardom.
Your 3rd H&O reaction. Cool. Oh and expect the name Patty Hearst to come up in the comments section. Could’ve been an urban legend but the heiress has frequently been associated with “Rich Girl”. Lastly, I hope “She’s Gone” is also on deck. ✌🏽
All cereals do that now. 15-30 years ago, they used whole grains and it stayed crunchy. All cereals were like that. But corporate greed was the fault in using animal food grade slop that tastes like cardboard and is about as nutritious. It's pressed grain powder and as soon as milk hits it, it disintegrates, making the cereal turn to mush. They make it this way so that they can hide recycled paper and cardboard bits. This is what the world has come to. You have to shop in health food stores to find a cereal that is 100% food and stays crunchy.
I just refound you guys again; I first heard your reaction to Al Stewart "Year Of The Cat" which like guys said will grow on you as it did on me! I love the music you like to react to.. *SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL* A couple requests please? "Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters", ELTON JOHN. "Smooth" CARLOS SANTANA featuring ROB THOMAS. And "Black Cow" STEELY DAN, (Also from the 'Aja' album). THANK YOU!! From the Northwoods of Minnesota.
Re Honey Bunches of Oats - this is a Post product and I agree with you, it is a flimsy product; I prefer General Mills' Oatmeal Crisp - it holds up much better in milk.
Somebody help me... When he sings, "Coz you know it don't matter anyway" I swear there is a song that has a line with that same melody. I think it even ends with the same word. Maybe the Eagles? Can anyone think of what it might be?
“She’s Gone”, “One On One”, and the live cover of “Me and Mrs Jones” would be right up your alley.
They should do Billy Paul's original before even considering the live cover. But sure, those two songs need to be next.
Adding my vote for She's Gone. One of my all time favourite songs. It's longer too, guys.
I hope they put on the long album version and not the 45.
Love this song. Someone once said, is the perfect pop song. Songs were short back then to get played on the radio...like you said
She's Gone 😞 and One on One 🔥 are incredible songs!!! One is about the stark realization that your heart is broken and the other is sexy and full of passion. Excellent song writing that makes you feel.
Love the Blue Eyed soul! “You Make My Dreams” is still my favorite! Hope you try Bob Seger, so many great songs!🤘🔥
Bob Segers, the best!
"She's Gone" is their best song.
Agree, I actually thought they did it for some reason. That's a MUST!!!!
"She's Gone" is the best song ever written. For the best live performance, watch "Me and Mrs. Jones". Oh, and the "stinkface" through most of the video will keep me coming back.
One of Hall & Oates best. certain songs bring back memories and this is one of them.
Hreat song BUT She's Gone is one of the best songs ever! Filled with such soul.
You have to listen to She's Gone. Don't miss that one.
I was born in '69 and was one of my first songs I remember. Great times!!

I personally like “Say it Isn’t So”, “Private Eyes”, “Kiss On My List” and of course “I Can’t Go For That”.
Great suggestions
I’m 57 and this song was on when I was in 4th grade.
Yay! One of my all time favorites!
Mine as well!
Daryl Hall is one of the best vocalists in popular music. Incredibly, he's an even better songwriter, and prolific to boot.
A classic amongst many more. Too bad they don’t get along now because they could make many more great tunes!
“‘Rich Girl’ was written about an old boyfriend of Sara’s [Allen] from college that she was still friends with at the time. His name is Victor Walker. Love me some Hall and Oates! One of my top 5 concerts, they were amazing. Thanks , we need more!
I got to see them in concert twice. They were amazing to see and sounded just as good live as recorded. Great great band.
9:05 Ryan, you might like the early 90’s cover of “Sara Smile” by R&B trio After 7 (Babyface’s 2 brothers and their cousin). It’s over 4 mins and they bring their own flava.✌🏽
all time classic! You gotta do their songs Private Eyes & You Make My Dreams come true
The first Top 40 hit with the word "bitch" in it, and it's in the song at least 5 times. 😂 I love it!!!!

Back in the day, everything they touched turned to gold. Try One on One or Out of Touch.
❤this even though it is more Pop than Blues. This was John Oates idea and it is really about NYC and this is what came ofe the original idea. Their live cover of Me And Mrs Jones is were you get some amazing vocal acrobatics from Daryl Hall
I can't go for that, Maneater, Private Eyes, need to be next
I would love to hear your reaction to one of the most beautiful strange and haunting songs I've ever heard. Linda Lewis Donkey's Years from 1972.
Hall & Oates can't make a bad song...period ! 😊
I agree with many of the other comments…She’s Gone is awesome. You really need to react to it.
My 3 favs by them: "Rich Girl"(check), "Sarah Smile"(check), and "She's Gone" ( )... Only one more to go. ;-]
Love this song. I think Ryan would like Method of Modern Love. Darryl Hall’s voice is fire 🔥
Great, now I’m spelling out the song.
Darryl was a neighbor of mine. An incredibly genuine guy.
Possession Obsession my no.1
I recommend “Back Together Again” off this album. Falsetto and sax in full effect.
I’m just gonna add to the chorus-do She’s Gone.
My jam...
She's Gone is my fav....
The ultimate song is “ Do what you want, be who you are” (1976) by this group (IMHO). I remember when the song came out and it’s been my favorite ever since! Of course Boz Skaggs LOW DOWN is right next to it!
She’s gone and I can’t go for that are two great ones. Shoot, not gonna lie, they have so many great songs!
Sara smile and One on One are on par with each other. You Guys will love it with out a doubt.
They already did it ruclips.net/video/Wi69WzzGTQA/видео.html
I always thought this song was inspired by the Patty Hearst kidnapping saga that happened in the mid-70s. She was taken by a domestic terrorist group known as The Symbionese Liberation Army.

once again requesting She's Gone.
Quite possibly the catchiest song of all time. The hook gets you from the first note. Hall & Oates weren't playing fair with this one. LOL
You loved Sara Smile. Daryl was heavily influenced by the 1970's Phillysound if you liked Sarah Smile, you must listen to Darly singing I'm in a Philly Mood. Just pure soul guys.

I believe they were going for that Motown sound in this song.
They recorded MANY longer songs. Do a deep dive; Daryl wrote so many!
you guys should check out Daryl Hall's cover of "Me & Mrs Jones"!
SMOOOOTH blue eyed soul! ♥️🎵🎷🎹🎤🎺🎸🎧🎶
**1994 - Live from Glasgow
One of my very favorite !! So glad you guys finally got to it 😊
Everything they made was bad to the bone. The best duo in musical history. Steely Dan was the second 🥈
YOU'RE GONNA DIG THIS ONE!!! :)
On my top 10 since I was a kid. And was shocked that they used a 'bad word'. 😂 So catchy and so good! Very short song. Leaves you wanting more...
Watch the documentary on We are the World on Netflix ... Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, and Darryl Hall are next to each other - they would be the Trifecta!!!
You need to do “She’s Gone”❣️
She's Gone will definitely give Sara Smile a run for the money. H&O's other masterpiece
She’s Gone and One on One are exemplary
One of the best, without doubt. Speaking of fire, you should check out 'Fire' performed by the Pointer Sisters; written by Bruce Springsteen. If was this song/performance that really jettisoned the group into pop stardom.

Me too!! I thought they did "She's Gone" or Id have requested it too!! 👍
Begging you guys to do One on One and she's gone. You won't regret it.

Hall & Oats are so good.
Song came from a wealthy girlfriend ... More Hall & Oats!
Another Triumph, maybe? Don't think y'all hit Magic Power yet. From the US Festival 1983 of course. It's been a little while.

You really have to check out Adult Education but not the remix or re-edited crap just straight up studio version
Oh man! I wish you had chosen "She's Gone," instead of "Rich Girl." Next time please?
Hall and Oates had many hits in the UK but they never achieved the success they had in the states.
Hall an oates "out of touch please
Out of Touch
